I enjoy eating at Sonny's. It's a consistently good barbecue experience. I always get the pound of brisket to feed my family. They have really good sides too. I haven't had the opportunity to dine in but I have used the bathroom while waiting on orders. Their Smokey barbecue sauce is top tier. Everything went downhill!! I got St. Louis ribs plate and the ribs were just nasty clots of fat! The french fries were barely cooked. They were still white. They weren't even golden brown. The bread wasn't toasted should've been. It was also still white and the okra with soggy with grease. The service was EXTREMELY slow. My estimate on how long the food took to get to me was about 45 minutes, and we were about to leave by the time the food got to us. The lights were bright, and the person I was ordering with often complained about them, and one of was also flickering, which was very distracting. I received my food, and I ordered a plain burger and tots. The food was very tasty! Do NOT order curbside delivery at this restaurant. The restaurant was empty. There is a window that looks out to see who is in Curbside parking. It's printed on the receipt. I honestly wouldn't be so upset about it if THREE EMPLOYEES had not seen me sitting there and walked away. Do not offer a service if you are too lazy to perform. Always loved coming to this place. Loved the all you could eat salad bar. Covid ruined that pleasure. After the flood of 2016, it took them a while to come back but, it was well worth the wait. Love the new decor and layout and the added bar. My grandson got the smoked turkey sandwich, my wife and I both had Sonny's sampler. The sampler comes with your choice of 3 meats, we both had chicken, brisket and pulled pork with coleslaw, baked beans and mac n cheese and garlic toast. The best darn garlic toast you will ever eat. In Baton Rouge, the location is not in a great area but not horribly unsafe. Like, it's probably safer than either BR location of Podnuh's BBQ. I would have gave this a one stars on food alone, but couldn't because I don't want to bash a drive through order. The ribs were undercooked with unrendered fat and the meat couldn't be pulled off the bone. The brisket was cut with the grain apposed to against? I'm not fond of long tubes of brisket. I went to Sonny's BBQ today for lunch. I got the smoked chicken plate and paid the $3.00 extra for two meats with the baby back ribs. I was really looking forward to it because I haven't had them in a long time. My sister upgraded to the baby back ribs also. what a disappointmen! My sister enjoyed hers. she had meat fallping off the bone which I expect from baby back ribs. I ate 3 of them. if you want to call it eating because I fought to get not even a spoonful of meat from all 3. I'm sure I had the other type of rib. I mentioned it to the server. mine didn't even look like my sisters. the server assured me I had baby back ribs. I told her there was no meat on it. she just shrugged. Since Sonny's will soon be in Gonzales, and we were craving BBQ anyway, we decided to get a sneak preview by heading to the BR location on Florida. I've never had a BBQ sandwich on garlic bread instead of a bun. Highly recommend though! We must have all been feeling a little piggy today because everyone chose pork. The Sweet Carolina was my choice because I love coleslaw on my BBQ. The mac and cheese was creamy and tasty and the pork was very flavorful. Hubby had the Whole Hog which had pulled pork, sliced pork and jalapeño cheddar sausage. We also started the meal with corn fritters. I was skeptical when they arrived with a dash of powdered sugar on them but again, I was pleasantly surprised at how well they went together. We went to one in Florida for the all-you-can-eat (AYCE) portion of the menu and I truly enjoyed it. It was pretty amazing since the service was fast and the food was good for the price. Ever since the time in Sonny's, I would always try to go to Sonny's whenever I had a craving for good barbecue in large portions. I think I managed to convince myself to go to Sonny's five or so times before the flood happened. At that time, the interior decoration was old and looked like it belonged in a museum. Now, the interior decoration has a mix of both the old style and a newer sleeker style. It is quite nice. I really enjoy it as there are many new things that I spotted as i ate here, such as the minor details of having a double door-like outline that reminded me of a barn. The bar is sleek and modern. Additionally, there are television monitors here that were great in watching the games on. The service was great as soon as we walked in. We had to stand in line and wait as there was a lot of costumers that day. However, the speed in which the waiters and waitresses worked allowed us to be seated in a matter of minutes even when we were behind four other tables and the restaurant was pretty packed. When I sat down, I was greeted by our waitress who was a nice lady. She seemed to try to get to know the costumers which is an amazing thing to do if you are trying to give the costumers a good time. She was consistently asking us for more water and also helping me get more food for my all-you-can-eat dish. It was a great time, and I managed to get to know her a little bit as well. The food was great. I got the AYCE ribs plate with a side of Mac and cheese and potato salad. The ribs were great. They were delicious and well cooked. The only issue is that the ribs were not as fall off the bone as I wanted. The potato salad was pretty nice. It was cool and refreshing and a great palate cleanser. The Mac and cheese were creamy and nice. They felt homemade and delicious. The salad was like other salads and had a pretty good sauce. The sauce was a little sour and pretty tasty. Overall, I love the food and the service. I can't think of any reason to take off for the restaurant. However, if I am comparing this place to other restaurants. Some items can be improved to be better such as the way that the ribs were cooked and the uniqueness of the flavors presented. read more

(DoorDash order) I ordered a 3 meat plate with ribs, pulled pork, and sliced brisket with a baked potato and corn nuggets! The sides were great besides the potato only coming with butter and sour cream - wish they gave cheese as well but still good! It was tender and warm still when I got my food. The garlic bread was super good as well. Unfortunately the meat was severely lacking salt - felt like I had to smother it in their original BBQ sauce for flavor and I typically like meat without sauce. Did love their BBQ sauce, though! Comes in convenient packets instead of dip cups which I appreciate!! The ribs were SO tender but again lacking salt! Overall 3 stars and better than Dickey's so I think I'd order it again. First time eating from Sonny's and my experience was not great and I could only imagine if I sat in versus ordering curbside. Everyone who ordered curbside got out their cars to retrieve the order--ISSUE #1. ISSUE #2- the order was just sitting on the stool while employees are talking. ISSUE #3- order was completely wrong and I placed the order online. Food that I do not eat was placed on my plate. ISSUE #4- I was not informed they were out a specific item, they were just going to take the money no refund. ISSUE #5- The entire staff was unprofessional and arguing at its busiest time. No one wants to walk in an establishment to employees yelling and cursing that is very unprofessional. Sonny's is only receiving 2 stars because the food was good from what I had (pulled pork, bbq beans and, smoked wings). This experience was not great and the atmosphere was terrible. It could have been a bad night but your guest should never know that. read more

This used to be one of our favorite places. Unfortunately, last two times have been epic fail! We went in one day and there was hardly anyone in there. There were four workers outside, smoking and talking to the guy doing the barbecue so we waited at our table where the hostess sat us for 20 minutes and no one ever came to take an order. Needless to say... we left. A week later we gave it another try and we did have someone take her order in a very fair amount of time but unfortunately the brisket was inedible. It was pulled instead of chopped, and had so many hard pieces on it. You could not eat it, nor accomplished chewing it.. very disappointing! read more

Great bbq! We had the family meal with 3 meats and sides. Excellent value! It's for a family of four. Our family of three ate on it for three days! It cost $60 with taxes and tip. We had ribs-so tender and smoky, delicious brisket and chicken quarters-just a tad dry. The baked sweet potatoes were delicious! Green beans were yummy, just a little too salty. I had ordered Sonnys a while back through Waitr. They were out of some of the items. Whatever, but they refused to sub any other item out. Sucky policy, but I can survive. 45 minutes later, my food arrives. Keep in mind, they were less than 1.5 miles from me.... the meat was cold. Not lukewarm. Like out of the fridge or left out for hours cold. The beans and fried pickles were piping hot, so the employee I spoke to was lying their ass off. It was not waitrs fault. The meat gave me the worst diarrhea I've had in ages. I paid for extra sauce packets along with taking the time to specify each packet flavor, and I only got the standard amount of their regular flavor. The bread was burnt. They got me good, I feel like they owe me a bottle of wine and a steak. I tried contacting the manager three times. No response. I even emailed corporate before this review. After months of their BS, I've decided to finally write this. They used to be alright before the flood. Now it's complete garbage. Stay away from here!!!!! The BBQ was absolutely fantastic. I ordered curbside because the line was out the door and down the sidewalk. Lol. So it seems im not the only one who wanted Sonny's. The brisket and ribs were cooked to perfection. Mac and cheese didn't taste refrigerated and the baked beans were real and not watered down. When I pulled up, the place seemed packed. The Togo line was about 3 deep. The person workin Togo was so polite and helpful. Usually when I pick up Togo, the takeout specialist can make you feel like it's a bother. But not this young lady. She had the southern hospitality personality, you expect from a bbq restaurant. I like to know exactly what I want to order, before I even leave the house, but they've been closed for so long that I forgot what they have. The takeout specialist was so patient and kind while I decided what I wanted. As far as the food. I got baby's back ribs and sliced brisket. The ribs were good. The brisket was kinda dry. I love this restaurant. It takes me back home as I grew up in the 60s-mid 80s not far from here. This restaurant not only survived being flooded in the Great Flood of 2016, but is going to surviving and thriving through all of this Covid-19 mess. I had a birthday coupon for a free Big Deal Sandwich Deal. I chose the Sonny's Steak Burger and gave it to my wife because that was what she wanted. I had the appetite for a Half Chicken Plate. For my sides: the best BBQ beans I've had bar none. It has everything I'm looking for in bbq beans. Its sweet and smokey. I also got a sweet potato as a side. I'll take blame here. It was good, but would be better served with a steak, not a chicken that I just drenched in the hot and smokey bbq sauce. The chicken was good. It was even better with the sauce. I love that sauce on ribs, sliced brisket, and definitely on chicken! To wash it all down? The sweet tea! That was just as important as the meal itself!
