This was a good option for my large crew. We hit the take out window and got service pretty quick. I got half pound each of Smoked Turkey and pulled pork. The pork was delicious especially with the Sizzlin Sweet sauce. The smoked Turkey was good as well but preference goes to the pork. The kids seemed to love their food. The Ribs and chicken were ok, nothing to just jump up and down about. Not visiting Sonny's will not leave you empty inside. The service was nice and friendly, reasonably price but the side dishes were terrible. The cole slaw, mac and cheese and potato salad were all bland and tasted as if they all came out of a 5 year old can from Canada. The side dishes did not have the southern taste I have come to know (South Carolina, Virginia, and Saint Louis) of the years. I live 50 miles from Brunswick, in Richmond Hill, Georgia, and earlier this afternoon I was in Brunswick and decided to stop by Sonny's BBQ on the Jesup Highway for a carry-out. I ordered two Pulled Pork sandwiches on Garlic Bread, received my order, and proceeded home. Sonny's has a particularly good pulled pork sandwich and I was looking forward to enjoying my sandwich once i arrived at my home in Richmond Hill. Once arriving home, however, my anticipation turned to disappointment when, upon opening the carryout container, I found, not a pulled pork sandwich, but a dry, tasteless chicken breast sandwich. Absolutely, a waste of my time and money. It's a shame that restaurants are unable/unwilling to accurately and correctly fill a carryout order. If I lived near Brunswick I'd certainly jump in my car and return my order, but living 50 miles away, what can I do? Nothing. If I called I suspect I'd get no more than an "OOPS, Sorry!" There are several other BBQ restaurants in Brunswick. Next time, I'll get my Pulled Pork Sandwich elsewhere. read more

Believe it or not, finding a good bbq spot is not as easy as you'd think. I got a half rack of baby back ribs, bbq beans, coleslaw, and garlic bread for $11. The ribs were the best part. Stopped here on the way to Florida from SC. This was my first trip to Sonny's. I was excited to see the salad bar! This was probably the only thing healthy in the place! I had a pulled chicken sandwich, and salad bar. I also shared fried okra. The pulled chicken was delicious, and I especially liked the classic sauce. The salad bar had a nice variety of veggies and toppings. It was great to see mixed greens and spinach in addition to the traditional iceberg/romaine lettuce. We were all pleased with the BBQ though the service was spotty. Our server and the hostess were very friendly, but I didn't get a great vibe from the rest of the staff. The food I was subjected to at this iteration of Sonny's was under cooked and tasted as If it pre packaged and warmed up. Let me preface by saying that I like the food here, and they're willing to fix something if it isn't right. I used to like to stop by for a sweet tea, but I'm done with that. There was a line literally out the door of people trying to order take-out, and there she was, answering phone call after phone call. If the manager cares at all about her business, this rude, incompetent person should be fired. Also, this Sonny's tends to seat people right up back to back, next to, and on top of each other. I have autoimmune issues, so I can't deal with being squished in next to a cougher or sneezer when there's empty seats available in another section. Because I'll get what they're having, and I don't mean the food. Once, when I was there, a waitress put me in a super busy section. She would not listen when I pointed to the empty section and said I wanted to sit there and not in the middle of the cattle drive they had going on. So, I went and sat over there in my usual spot. She came over to me and was such a "b" that if I didn't have food already, I would've got up and left. Bottom line: The food is decent, but not worth the hassle, and for God's sake, don't get take-out! 3/23/23 We attempted to eat here as we had done several times before. There were 5 of us, grown adults. Two of us are handicapped, with mobility issues. The so called "hostess" had an attitude when we got there. She asked us how many, we told her 5. She then looked away from us, told a couple in front of us to "follow me" and walked away. We didn't know if we should follow too or wait. When she came back she said "follow me" again and tried to take us to a booth. We explained that the booth wouldn't work. We literally touched the end of the booth and the whole thing moved, it was not attached to anything. Had I tried to use that for support I would have ended up on the floor. We asked if we could use one of the two tables in the corners. She turned around and said come back here, referring to the front of the restaurant. Not understanding why she was so nasty about needing a table instead of booth when there were plenty of other tables and booths empty. We went back out front again and the whole time her attitude toward us was terrible. She left us there while she walked around the back of the restaurant, came back out and walked around again and then preceded to seat a different couple. She was just letting us stand there for no reason other than she felt she could. We got tired of waiting and watching her look at us through her 2" long eye lashes, we decided to leave. When we went to walk out the door she asked us if we were leaving. We said yes and she preceded to mumble something under her breath with a smirky look. Never in my life have we been treated like that in any restaurant. She should not be in the hospitality position, especially as the first impression people see or talk to. Management really needs to train hostesses to respect individuals with disabilities not to make them feel as an inconvenience. She should no way be in a position to deal with people.
