Came in on Sunday night. Not super busy but waited 10 mins for the server to even greet the table. Two ladies at host stand could have greeted and got drinks but were chatting instead. All this construction, moving the entrance door away from the parking lot (nice walk in the rain!), restricting the drive up access somewhat is just so that they can add a bar! Haven't been to a Sonny's in 2 years because we noticed every time we ate it we had horrible indigestion but we live nearby it and we constantly smell the wonderful smoke billowing out. So Indigestion or not we had to have it so Sunday night, I Called in a to go order at 8:50, she said be here in 10 minutes cause we close at 9:30. Drive thru cashier had our food and asked about BBQ sauces. Told her boyfriend wanted hottest one you got and I wanted sweet,then I asked for ranch for my fries. Got home, food ice cold and no sauce of any kind in sight except my ranch. I called and told them... BBQ joint and no BBQ sauce, really? I didn't mention the cold factor cause I was hungry and ate it dry as a pop corn fart and cold as an ice cube, but I did so with regret and guilt. There was so much talk about how amazing Sonny's BBQ is, we don't have any close to where I'm from, so we had to make a stop at one before heading home. Honestly I was pretty underwhelmed by the meal. I got BBQ chicken and it was very dry, when I tried other people's food I wasn't that thrilled either. They have different kinds of BBQ sauces which is nice, but I honestly couldn't find one that I even liked! I will give Sonny's another shot, but this visit everything just seemed so bland and dry! Let me say that I've been in many Sonny's for over 25 years and have had many fine meals. Unfortunately, the Inverness, Florida outlet hasn't provided any of them. I'm a senior citizen and I ordered one of their plates with baby back ribs which was $9.99. Accompanying the 'ribs' was a slice of garlic bread, cole slaw, and something that was called french fries. First, the total amount of meat on these ribs was, tops, about 2 oz and they were dry and without any taste. The single slice of garlic bread was irrelevant, and the french fries were the usual pre-frozen factory junk that a beggar wouldn't eat. The cole slaw was excellent. This 'meal' was hardly that; it was so small and little more than the equivalent of a small entree. That they could charge $9.99 for this starving child-sized portion is an outrage. But perhaps I shouldn't be so severe in my comments. This food (except for the cole slaw) was so awful that maybe the small portion was a mercy. This may not be the best looking BBQ place I've been to but for a rural area I fell in love with their BBQ. I ordered the Sweet and Smokey Ribs for $10.99. My uncle ordered the combo that came with ribs, pulled pork and some other kind of meat. Each plate comes with 2 sides and either garlic bread or cornbread. My Sweet and Smokey Ribs were awesome!! Very juicy and flavorful! The restaurant also has a selection of sauces on your table that you can add to the meat you ordered. The service was great and quick! The staff was friendly and often walked by to see how we were doing. The restaurant also has a drive-thru! I will definitely want to eat here again when I come back to visit this area. read more

My party was seated pretty quick but after we got our drinks we noticed a woman had been waiting for about 5 minutes to be seated. There were open seats everywhere. Our waitress Deb was amazing!! Deb needs a raise for her work ethic and personality! While everyone else that worked there was standing around, she rushed and made it all happen. When our appetizer came out, it wasn't up to her standard so she got us a new one that was perfect! I would go back and ask for her specifically, as everyone on here should as well. This Sonny's has better tasting BBQ than most of the other Sonny's I have eaten in. My favorite is the sliced brisket. I have probably had the brisket meal 20 to 30 times. Most all the time it is pretty good. Perhaps 2-3 times it was substandard. I have also had several excellent slabs of ribs, none of them substandard. The only other thing I have has was their pulled pork. It is always well-cooked, moist, and tasty. The sides I have had are the green beans, corn on the cob, fried okra, fries, and sweet potato. I love their green beans. While I am sure they are not fresh, they are well seasoned and tasty. I am not a fan of their corn. It seems to be frozen corn. When corn is in season, they would be better served to use local corn. Their fried okra is consistently well prepared. The fries are normal as are their sweet potatoes. My ratings are for their food--mostly their BBQ. It is always well smoked! I also love their senior special. On the negative side, this restaurant needs a major face lift. The physical plant is beyond its useful life. The restrooms, when I have used them, probably need more cleaning attention. read more

Sonnys BBQ is one of my favorite places to eat. My family and I go all the time and are treated with the utmost kindness and hospitality. Even on their off days, they do their best to give you great food and service. The food is delicious and the salad bar has a variety of options. I was hopeful and excited when pulling into the parking lot. The smells coming out of the restaurant were mouth watering. Then I was greeted with the smell of urine and other latrine contents in the entry way. There were cones on the floor suggesting there had just been wet floor. The interior of the restaurant smelled like urine also. I was happy when the food came so my nose could get a break. The sides were meh. Green beans from an industrial can. Salty and soft and in small pieces. Sweet potato baked perfectly but when they offer cinnamon butter, you should know it's cinnamon flavored country crock. The baby back ribs were tender and falling off the bone but very uneven in temperature. One end of the rack was burned to a char and the other end was cold to the touch. I asked for the cool ones to be rewarmed and they made a new rack. In the remake, the bone ends were hot but the meat was cool. read more

My wife's favorite place to go out to eat and the food used to be great. We went tonight for Valentine's day and the terrible experience began there... It all started with a menu that suddenly had shrunken to one third of the original size in options and missing any sign of an ice cold beer being available to go with your meal. We ordered our usual charbroiled chicken sandwich with side salad bar and pork 3 ways with redneck egg rolls as the appetizer. Not even two minutes after giving our order we received our ice cold egg rolls and salad plate, now keep in mind it's a holiday so we understand some items might be prepared in advance but fried egg rolls usually aren't cold in the middle after all the cheese has already found its way out. Before my wife could finish filling her salad plate and I could even let the waitress know of the cold appetizers our food arrived at the table. The beans had been under the hot plate so long they had developed a crust and my pork had gotten cold before I could even get to it. The fun doesn't stop there though, we asked for to go boxes to put our left overs in and after stuffing it all in we get our check placed on the table face up (for those who don't know checks are typically placed face down because it's not the world's business what you spent or if your on a date the other party is simply left guessing what was spent). So we go to look at our check and it's more then $10 over what it should have been because they tried to charge us for salad bar as a meal even though it was a side salad and charged us for the big deal upgrade for both of our meals even though neither of us upgraded as my wife only got one side with her sandwich and I bought a whole meal that the sides where included in the price and we had water. To top all of this off we get to the counter to point out the error to the hostess and pay and not even an apology was offered nor was anything said about the big deal upgrades! We used to love this place and would go as often as I would agree to go but if this is their new standard for quality and customer service then today was our last. read more
