Finally, the staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The usual stereotype I have of a butcher is a really beefy and gruff dude with chronic meat sweats, who pals around with a baker and candlestick maker (why is that a job btw, that seems like a hobby at best). These guys don't look like that- giving me a lesson in stereotypes and judging books via their cover. As I chomp down on my deliciously spiced sausages, I realize that both my horizons and waistline have expanded. Finally, it is pronounced Toe-Ma's. Get that wrong and they will laugh at you, and you will deserve it.

It's so flavorful and tender that I honestly don't have the right words. And their bacon? OMG Every cut I've purchased has been fresh, beautifully prepared, and incredibly delicious. And the prices? More than fair. You truly feel like you're getting amazing quality without the inflated markup. Recently, I had a small mix-up with an order. I placed and paid for what I needed, and when I got home, I realized a large cut had accidentally been included that I hadn't ordered. I called right away, and the owner was so kind and flexible about having me bring it back (even though I live about 20 minutes away). When I returned, he didn't just "fix" the mistake. He went above and beyond. He refunded the $54 for the large cut and generously added additional packages of meat -- including more of what I had originally ordered. That kind of service is rare. It felt thoughtful. It felt personal. It felt like someone who truly cares about his customers. The assistant was also helpful and kind -- you can tell this place operates with integrity from top to bottom. Exceptional quality. Affordable pricing. Quarry Creek Elk & Bison company is a pretty neat shop just North of Fort Madison, Iowa. They have…read morejust about everything (furniture, clothes, boots, gifts, pickled stuff, sweets, etc.). Every time we are in Iowa (1-2 times a year) we stop in mainly for 3 things: 1) cheddar cheese, 2) Elk or Bison sausage and 3) to check out and get pictures of the Elk and Bison roaming in their pins near the building. Probably some new additions to our "things we get from Quarry Creek Elk & Bison Company list" would be Little Buffalo Horns (chocolate covered cashews) and Elk Drops (chocolate covered caramels) which can be found right next to the registers. We see the same people each time we come. They are all very nice and welcoming. This is a place we will continue to visit for years to come. I urge you to stop in if you happen to be in the area.
