I recently picked up my car from their shop. When i got in it the check engine light was on!! I had an emergency vet appointment I couldn't be late for so I drove it home. I contacted their office and spoke to Chris who lacks in his customer service attitude and tone. He offered no solution or apology. He couldn't have cared less. Took my suburban in for radiator work, when I picked it up it had a different leak, Took it back and the transmission cooler line leaked, it was cross treaded, so now after paying for a new radiator I had to pay for both transmission cooler lines and it still leaked. Don't they check before they send it out. Same problem when they worked on my brakes, i had to take it back several times before it was right. Another awesome interaction with Sonora Auto Repair and Diesel. I had a battery going out in a newer car that has so many electronics in it, you can't just simply exchange the battery yourself any more! It wasn't a problem for their team - They actually have mechanics that used to work at different dealerships (like BMW) so one of their guys knew exactly what to do for my specific car. They changed the battery, hooked up a computer to the cars computer, and reset all of the info needed so the car knows it has a new battery. It saved me a trip to Modesto knowing there's a mechanic up here competent to deal with all different types of cars with all the necessary gadgets and computers to do the work. Be very careful............Here's their big ploy: - Tell you on the phone that it's $115 for repair estimate, (Now keep in mind I already told them the issue, I was correct) - When you show up and are standing in front of them they say, that will be $230 and we will waive the second $115 If you have the work done there. - Call you later with a very unrealistic price to do the work - You either pay their extortion fee or their unrealistic repair work bill I did not complain about the way they conduct their business, when I was at their establishment, I doubt it would have made any difference. I simply want to make people aware of my dealings, a well as many others that you will see on yelp. Another small town business taking advantage of those who try to shop locally. I'm submitting this review on behalf of my 80 yr old father in law. He has since learned to go on yelp and check reviews before making any decisions. If he had done so, he would not have gone to this "repair" shop. His Lexus was having power steering issues since 2019. This shop has replaced tires, brakes, steering pump, tie rod over 8 months and $3500 and it's worse than before. He then gave my father in law an estimate to replace parts that are not even on his vehicle model. He stopped driving the car because of the noise and vibration so my husband took the car to our mechanic who repaired it for less than $600 which also included some standard maintenance. Our mechanic was blown away by the material cost alone. He feIt this was an obvious case of taking advantage of the elderly and putting their life at risk. He suggested we file a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair (Sonora Auto Repair & Diesel BAR#282900) which we are in the process of doing. I'm hoping this review will protect others from going to this place and offer suggestions to those that have been scammed by them. read more

STAY AWAY. Very dishonest shop. I drove my truck down there to have them check out my brakes, which worked fine but the pedal was soft, and I was called a day later and was told that the torque converter was locked up and that it would stall in all gears and that there was no reverse. I backed my truck up my driveway and drove down there with zero issues. David at the front desk was extremely rude when I insisted that my transmission was fine before I brought it to them. They then charged me for the diagnosis and quoted me $5,000 to have my transmission replaced. I repeat. STAY AWAY. read more

My daughters car started to run sour soon after she moved into the area. After the diagnoses it revealed the EGR valve had gone bad which had been replaced less than a year ago by a shop down in Montclair, CA. Sonora Auto Repair & Diesel didn't handle the warranty directly, but was able to get permission to do the job from WorldPac the EGR valve supplier. An appointment was made with the understanding that I would have to pay for the repair after the service and WorldPac would refund my money. Car was serviced in less than a day and at a fraction of the cost than the other guys down south. My daughter and I are totally satisfied by the professional and timely service that Sonora Auto Repair & Diesel provided! read more

Terrible shop. I got tottaly ripped off. I brought them my 12 valve Dodge to fix a small oil leak and a stalling issue. They replaced the injection pump first and it was not the issue but created a hard start problem. Then replaced the lift pump and vacume pump. Got it back and would not start after sitting and had a new massive oil leak. They replaced the injection pump again, same starting issue. Replaced the vacume pump and lift pump again. Still same issue. I had to have it towed twice back to their shop. They have given it back to me three times and said it's fixed only to have to go back again. Evey time they just put me back in line instead of fixing their mistakes. Finally they found that the fuel heater gasket was leaking which was obviously the original problem. They lied to me several times when I asked if they checked the whole fuel system for leaks before replacing the injection pump. Very inexpensive part but I already paid for all the other repairs as well. They even wanted to charge me extra to set the idle after they didn't set it correctly when installing the new injection pump. WTF! This was a nightmare. Thousands spend and months lost for what should have been a $400-$500 fix! read more

My father richard Rios in law took his 2013 GMC to Sonora auto repair and diesel on camage ave. On September 24 he did not receive his truck back until October 4th they said it would only be a couple day job and turned into two weeks. He took his truck in for an engine light came on and it was smoking. when he checked back in they said that part of my exhausts that recycles out the down part diesel both the male and female bolts we're completely stripped they wouldn't give him his old part back until he paid for the new parts when he received his old part and checked it he found that nothing was stripped at all I took pictures to show what I'm talking about. They said that is was that part causing the issues and it needed to be changed when in reality it just needed to be screwed back in not replaced completely. Now in order to even get my truck back I had to pay for a whole new part which wasent needed. They said it was completely stripped when it wasent I have pictures to prove it. David Burris was no help and very rude when it came to getting my old part back the one they replaced. He paid for the new part because they wouldn't give him my keys or the older part until he paid he argued for a half hour and waited for the owner to come and he never showed. They screwed him over and he just wants people to know in the future to think twice about using them. They are not through and they are not honest! I also left my 80$ vape pen in my truck and it was also gone and they said they never saw it. They are fraud and they don't help people they make it worse. I typically don't post reviews but my experience with them encouraged me to warn others so the same thing doesn't happen. I recommend going somewhere else. Do not use this shop! When they say that their honest & reasonably priced, they weren't just saying that to get your business. When I woke up one morning and my new car of 2 years had a fluid leak, I freaked out and didn't know where to take my car and didn't trust just anyone to look at it. My husband recommended Sonora Auto Repair, it was close to his work and he had heard good things about them but most of all that they were honest. We dropped of my car and within a few hours they called to say it was just my oil drain plug was loose. I expected to hear CV boot or something expensive needed to be done. They tightened the plug and topped off my oil, free of charge! I highly recommend Sonora Auto, we will be a continuous customer for both our vehicles!! read more
