Well Sonora labs has given in to the enshittification of everything. Their new facility has no HUMAN accessible or visible. They are all behind locked doors. Of course check in is on a smartpad. You know who struggles w that? Lots of people! Older people, people with vision issues, people w oddball medical plans, people with language barriers. But mostly seniors/older people. I watched an elderly man attempt to get help multiple times. I won't go into his personal details, but at least 7 people checked in before he was checked in. Someone at lab told me "times have changed" when I brought this up to staff, but there's a huge population that were not born in a digital age, that adopted technology when it was available, as adults. It's wrong- this digital gatekeeper way of running a business that involves humans- including the old and sick. Once in the back, I was treated well, as I always am by the staff at Sonora Quest. I am absolutely livid. I checked in at 2:00pm with their iPad system thing. Everything went through. Then after 50 minutes I noticed other people coming in after I had arrived. Turns out their system is faulty and instead of saying sorry and pushing me ahead they put me back in the queue. Asked them to check the cameras. She gave zero shits and it's hands down the worst experience I've ever had in one of these places. Their signs say they'll be back but she told me this is how we check in. The check in machine is supposed to be touch activated. You have to key in a few times before you can even check in. If you punch in the wrong telephone number, you have to try harder for a few times to get check in. I have been to quite a few Sonora Quest labs, & most of their check in machines are down & have to check in by the staff. This location is advertised as "Sonoran Quest Kids", but the experience didn't reflect that. They even had news coverage about their initiative to help kids feel more positive about their blood draw experience. I chose this location for that specific reason, as this would be my toddler's first time having the procedure. The lobby had a few cute things on the wall for kids, which my daughter was excited about. But that was the extent of the kid-centric angle of this place. She was taken into a very typical looking blood draw station, with not a single element to it that looked like it was designed for kids. The phlebotomist was nice enough, and fully competent. But I expected that he would make the extra effort to try and make her comfortable, prepared, distracted, etc, which didn't happen. I was sure she would at least get a sticker or something as a reward when she was done, but that didn't happen either. None of that is a big deal, obviously the most important part is that they safely and accurately do their job, which I believe they did. But I don't know why their door and their website specifically say "Sonora Quest Kids" when nothing about this experience seemed to be tailored to the needs of children. Weird! read more

They do a great job. The kiosks for checking in are a good idea, however an Employee said the scanner doesn't always work to scan your Appointment Bar Code. So sometimes you still have to enter your info manually. The other thing about the kiosks is that the words are so small, the elderly have to don their glasses to read them, which slows the line down at the kiosk. Next time they buy new kiosks, they should shop for ones with LARGE LETTERING. The restrooms don't have a hook anywhere to hang a purse or backpack. There is evidence that hooks once existed, but it has been YEARS since they have been replaced. What could they possibly COST?! $4.99. SQ hasn't had $4.99 extra to hang purse hooks in YEARS? Don't worry. I'll bring one with me next time and install it myself. read more

So many people come in and try to get bloodwork done there are NO SIGNS that say they need to check in on tablet I'm sure it's self explanatory for some people I had no issue bc I've been here before to get bloodwork it's the lack of empathy the employees have yes I get it's busy. But there were people here waiting for hours for somebody to come out and assist them bc they were waiting for a FRONT DESK PERSON to check in . At what point does somebody come out and check them in? At what point do they ask if they've been assisted. We had to get a blood draw on our 2 month old. For the bloodwork it had to be a vein puncture and not just a heel poke. Carla was phenomenal. She was patient with a screaming baby and made sure to have someone else verify she found a good vein, before poking him. She got him in one swift poke and it was over quickly. Had two separate orders that needed to be completed and they completely dropped the ball and only did one. This required me to spend a great deal of time on phone and email trying to get them to fix their mistake which they initially said they could and then subsequently pulled a 180 and said otherwise. Now will be required to either waste more time trying to get a new order or go back for a second draw. Again this is all to correct THEIR MISTAKE. Overall their care was just poor and the quality of service lacking. No surprise they are two stars. It should really be negative. I want to first state the the staff here was super sweet and I 100% appreciate that! However, we drove all the way from Gilbert to this "kids" location and it was pathetic. We had to walk through the location to a back room. There were no toys. The large chalkboard in the waiting room had no chalk. The tv just had an old DVD player and it didn't work... so basically there was absolutely no distraction or anything to entice my three year old. Instead the phlebotomist had one person hold him so he wouldn't move and then he drew his blood. I tried putting a movie on my phone, but there's hardly any service in the building so it kept freezing up. I made a comment about how it was pretty sad this was a "kid" location. I was expecting some Netflix so we could pick a show and some toys or something to keep my son engaged or maybe even a lollipop or something! But there was nothing! Again, the staff was nice but it was such a waste of my time to drive all the way out there when I could've gone to any regular lab to get his blood drawn. read more

Not for kids. They nurses poked my 24 month old twice. 3 different nurses. And one told her "it would go a lot faster if you just calmed down". They also couldn't agree on how to make her sit and were being passive aggressive to me about it. They asked if they could poke my screaming baby a third time. After she went digging with the needle! Nope. Told them to stop and we got out of there as fast as possible!!! Didn't get all the labs we needed. Crazy traumatic and waste of time. They said they were understaffed... because of that we also waited over an hour for our appointment time. With a 2 year old. They were pretty aggressive about it to. Another guy went a head of us that had a later appointment time and checked in way after us. So this place is the worst. Don't let them trick you. Not kid friendly. We live near multiple Sonora Quests within 5 mins of us, but drove 20 mins out of the way for our 18 month old in hopes that there would be more to distract her. I used to work at a lab at Scripps in San Diego. The drop off process for specimens is horrible here. I was not told I would have to wait to be seen to make sure I did my collection correct and now I am late to school. I did it correct because someone took forever explaining it to me when they gave it to me. If you can go somewhere else, do. This is frustrating. Follow up: I was basically forced to come back to write on a piece of paper the date and time of my collection and sign a paper verifying that the information was correct. I had written my name, date of birth, and the collection time on the bottle already in sharpie before I dropped it off. What a huge waste of time. That information could have been verified over the phone. I'm sorry Sonora Quest, your policy needs to be reworked for what was supposed to be a simple specimen drop-off. read more

I took my child to the Sonora Quest inside PHX children's hospital and we had a very anxious child. Vinny was very patient and talked to my child respectfully and calmly and the blood draw went extremely well and quickly. She also drew an extra tube just in case so another draw would not be needed if something happened at the LAB. Highly recommended . read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I have come in every week for a year to the same location with a standing order. The people up front, and one in particular, are rude and dismissive, even though she knows I come in regularly. If she can't find my order right away, she won't bother to look further. This is the absolute worst part of my week. I made an appointment, and now I have to sit in this disgusting waiting room for an extra amount of time until my lab order is RE-SENT to the fax machine to make it easy for lazy techs who don't give a crap. It is always crowded, loud and filthy, at this location and others. I am so frustrated by the pathetic way Sonora Quest runs their business. They do the absolute least and cheapest they can because they know patients don't have a choice when they have to do this terrible chore. The trouble is, no place is better. On December 15th, 2021, I visited SonoraQuest with a lab order from my doctor's office. The order was signed by a PA named "Marc Goodboy". Goodboy is employed by Academic Urology under my primary physician, Dr. Kundavaram. Goodboy had been working for Academic Urology in Phoenix for several years, prior to that, he lived in Seattle. Shortly after visiting SonoraQuest, I received a bill in the mail for the service. Knowing there should not have been a bill, I contacted SonoraQuest. I was informed that because I had seen Goodboy in Seattle, my claim could not be processed. I explained that I had never been to Seattle, that Goodboy was local. I also reached out to my doctors' office to assist. I was assured that the matter would be resolved, and didn't hear anything from either entity for several months. My doctor's office agreed to fix the issue with paperwork, and reached out to several representatives for SonoraQuest. In October of 2022, I received another bill, this time from RSI collections demanding payment. I contacted my doctor's office, and held a group call including SonoraQuest, my insurance company (Blue Cross AZ), and my doctor's office. Everyone knew what needed to be done to correct the issue that everyone, including SonoraQuest, agrees is not my debt. These calls are recorded and available upon request. I was assured again by SonoraQuest the issue would be handled with no further efforts needed from me. SonoraQuest also agreed to place the account on hold with no further attempts to collect the debt while waiting for their requested paperwork. On January 20th, 2023, I received notification from Experian, a credit monitoring agency, that my credit score thad plummeted by 136 points due to the addition of a collections account. I've confirmed with my doctor's office that the paperwork SonoraQuest requested to initiate a correction was received by SonoraQuest on both November 10th, 2022 (confirmed with Toni), again on December 22nd (confirmed with Sarah), and again on December 23rd with Carol. She confirmed my case was "In Review" and could not explain the credit reporting. In the meantime, I'm in the process of purchasing a home with the credit I've worked so hard to maintain in good standing. RSI, the company who collects for SonoraQuest, also agrees this debt is not mine to pay, but cannot override the request of their client. I was informed Monday January 23rd, that I would receive a call from a SonoraQuest manager to discuss the issue. As of the writing of this letter, Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 at 0930, I have received no calls from the office. My attorney believes you are in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. A copy of this letter will be forwarded to the Arizona Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. You're also probably wondering why I'm using Yelp to complain. Well, I think my two-year diligence in attempting to correct this with absolutely no help from any of the reps or managers has come to an end. Now I'm impatient with the destruction of my credit for your negligence. I did try to reach SonoraQuest through their website with a complaint form. Whether it's by their own design, the contact forms on their website is met with a 404 error after spending about an hour documenting the chronology. My first time at this Sonora Quest was great! The building looks like an old church so that threw me off but it was easy to find once inside. There's plenty of parking including covered parking which in 115 degree weather is very welcomed. I checked In about 9am after making my appointment online (which was easy) for a 9:15am appointment. I got checked in and took a seat. Chairs are spaced 6 feet apart and everyone wore a mask or face shield. I got called back by technician Ethan T. He welcomed me and got everything started. Our 10 month old baby needed blood drawn so we scheduled an appointment and drove completely out of our way to go to this location because Sonora Quest advertises that this is a special pediatric location. The website says: The Sonora Quest Kids location in Central Phoenix offers a pediatric waiting room, special draw chairs, pediatric-focused decorations, and even TVs in the draw rooms to help distract children when they are getting a blood draw. There is also a room suited for youth aged children. The majority of this is false. Yes-- there is a section of the waiting room that is kid friendly. But there were no special draw chairs, no TVs in the rooms, nothing of that nature. It was the exact same room and experience as an adult having their blood drawn. We were told to wrap our arms around the baby and hold on tight. When I asked the technician about this and what was advertised, she said "all locations are the same." Thankfully I brought my own distractions for the baby because that was completely disappointing. I will say that the technician did a great job finding a vein quickly and that was a good experience-- hence the stars for her. Also-- we arrived for our scheduled appointment a few minutes early. So, I went in for some blood work and the snotty young girl at the front window ask me for my paperwork. I forgot my paperwork and had my wife take a picture and send it to my phone. Had to give the snotty girl my phone because the email was too long, I guess for me to do it. she didn't know how to send it even though it says send at the top. After that I waited about a good 7 mins then asked if she got it. She said not it takes a few mins told me to have a seat. after seeing some people come in and leave, I got up and asked if she got it. She said no then said do you want to try it again she said in a lil snotty way SURE. I gave her my phone again. Waited another 8 or 9 mins. Now I took time off of work to get my bloodwork done. Then I asked her if she got the email, she tells me no but maybe if I go outside, I can get better reception. I said no I have been getting my text messages fine. My 5-year-old son doesn't cry with shots. I'm a nurse and we practice and prepare so he's always at ease and knows what to expect. His last annual check-up he got 5 shots without one tear. He's had labs twice before. "Just a pinch and we're done!" he says each time. We sat in the chair as the phlebotomist looked for a vein while my husband and I distracted and talked with him. All of the sudden he screamed and started crying. I looked over to see her WIPING AN ALCOHOL WIPE ON AN OPEN PATCH OF ECZEMA ON HIS ARM. He was terrified and grabbing his arm in pain, then firmly put both arms down behind his back so no one could touch them. We took a break to let it dry, all as we tried to remain calm and take deep breaths to try again. We explained to him it was an "accident" and tried to calm him while the phlebotomist stood there, becoming increasingly impatient. We tried to at least let her look again once he calmed down a bit but the damage was done, he wasn't letting anyone there near his arm. She then had the audacity to suggest restraining him. No apology for putting rubbing alcohol on an open wound (or even choosing that spot in the first place!). If she couldn't find a spot other than the AC vein with an eczema patch on it, then she should have asked for help finding a different site or clearly stated she couldn't find one today. I would have preferred "this is the only place we can find but you'll have to come back when this eczema has cleared." Again, as a nurse I never in a million years thought I would have to tell a medical professional "don't put rubbing alcohol on an open wound and then stick a needle in there." Kids are resilient and he had stopped crying within minutes but I am furious she hurt him. Even worse: the damage from this will last forever. Every shot and doctor appointment will now be full of fear. THIS is why kids are scared of shots, the doctor, labs, etc. It only takes ONE bad experience with kids. We still need labs but we can't come back here again and no matter where we take him he'll think it's going to be just like this. Furthermore, you don't do this to an adult either. Unless it's an emergency and you need a line, you don't start IVs or draw labs in compromised areas of skin.Let alone rub it with pure rubbing alcohol. It's like forgetting you have a paper cut and using sanitizer, but multiply it by 100. Please do not bring your children here. read more

My phlebotomist Clarissa was fantastic! I'm not the biggest fan of needles but she made me comfortable and I didn't even feel the needle go in. I am a fan for 2 main reasons, convenience and professionalism. If I can offer 3 hints. (1) If you are immunologically challenged (i.e. have cancer and in chemo, elderly or otherwise need to avoid the sick or crowded areas) I would see if your doctor could set up an in office blood draw. This place is busy and filled with the sick, coughing and sniffling. (2) I am not the biggest germaphobe [hell I have eaten a chapulin(grasshopper) out of the hand of an old lady selling them on the streets of Mexico] and I am not a fan generally of hand sanitizer, but even I wish they offered a Purell dispenser near the door upon exiting. The location is not dirty per say but knowing the quaNtity of people that run through here with most of them being all sneezy, sniffly and coughing, statistically speaking there is higher risk of contraction or exposure. Well I kind of feel the same way at a mall, amusement park or airplane. (3) Make an appointment. Either call or register online. If you don't make an appointment go in just after they open (usually around 7a) sign in and wait. I have been pretty lucky when i have gone early. The later you go in without an appointment the longer you stand the chance of waiting. The intake staff are professional and helpful. The process is quicker if you are ready with the necessary forms/cards and you know to sign in as soon as you walk in. The lab techs and phlebotomists are some of the best. On my most recent visit the phlebotomist was so smooth. I could not even feel the transition of the tubes as they filled one and replaced it with another. I am not afraid of shots or needles but for someone who is, you don't want to have to see or feel it more than you have to or fear that if you or they move they will rupture the vein. *arg* Scary right! read more
