The steak and service alone deserve 5 stars alone. The deduction comes from the variability between other dishes over two visits. The Vacio wagyu is always perfectly tender, and continually warmed on the hot stone with its accompanying salt and chimichurri. That item alone makes me go out of my way to fulfill a craving. An honorable mention goes to their complimentary refried bean tostadas, which is very underrated. The loaded Papa Loca potato is large for sharing, perfectly baked the first time, but underbaked/too starchy the second time. The mushrooms aren't special enough with just a coating of cheese and an unappetizing heavy hand of red pepper flake coating. My toddler honestly has a palate for good burgers, but his dislike was mutual; tasting it it out of curiosity, the wagyu cheeseburger needed more flavor, while the fries seemed over-cooked in old oil. The first time on a weekday, everything seemed great. The second time around for a busy Mother's Day weekend, it just seemed everything was rushed, especially the food preparation.

Another great dinner at Sonora. Impeccable service. I tried the ribeye Tacos and the Agua Fresca drink this time. Both were phenomenal! I didn't have any syrup added to the Agua Fresca which the base was sweet enough on its own. Pineapple base. The food is just so impressive. Met some wonderful people next to us.

We started going because of so many recommendations, and while the food is very tasty and somewhat affordable for a steak place, the service is so bad the last 2 to 3 times we visited. Drinks arrive after the meal is already done, and the waiters are always running around trying to do a hundred things and not really paying attention to their customers. Food can also be delayed, so the order of when anything arrives is always unpredictable. It's very disappointing, because the steaks are tasty. It's always bustling and I recommend reservations.

If you've been to Asadero, their sister restaurant in Ballard and Kent, you probably don't have to drive all the way to Maple Valley for Sonora Steak. After looking at the menus for Asadero and Sonora Steak, I'd say 85% of the menu is the same, with Asadero ironically having a bit more focus on the steak while Sonora Steak's menu offers tacos in addition to what Asadero has. I don't think the wait seemed very long for Saturday dinner, but you're probably better off making a reservation ahead of time, which is always a plus for restaurants. We were promptly seated and offered fruit of our choosing to add to our water cups. The servers were friendly and quick to provide anything we had asked for. For drinks, I ordered a playa punch from the mocktail menu. My only complaint would be the texture of the drink. I would have preferred it to be strained because I was fighting some seeds and pulp, which made the drinking experience a bit unpleasant. I ordered the pollo asado for my main and found it to be the same as Asadero's. The texture of the chicken also seemed off and possibly a bit overdone, since it was a bit rubbery. Also in a weird way, I think it's a bit too seasoned and flavorful that it takes away from the dish as a whole. Overall, I think you get your money's worth and leave with a belly full and satisfied. Perhaps I'd try a different mocktail next time.

    Fat from Prime Ensalada

Third time dining at Sonora Steak, but likely my last. Quality has gone down. The Prime Ensalada meat was 0ver 50% fat(see photo). To their credit, when we discreetly pointed to the pile of fat left in the plate, the waiter Greg immediately took it to management. Management came over and apologized and took $10 off the $19.99 salad. We have enjoyed the salad in the past and was disappointed in the wilted, wet lettuce and scant toppings compared to the other time we had it. The Pescado Tacos were okay; the halibut was chewy- tough chicken-like chewy. Odd for halibut. My guess is frozen halibut, chopped into small pieces and then grilled makes the fish tough. So strange for fish to be chewy like that. The spicy flavour was gone by the time I was finished chewing. The spice, while tasty, did overpower any halibut taste there may have been. Food aside, our server Greg was attentive, helpful, and nice. Management was friendly. Music loud. Even servers were asking patrons to repeat their requests. But Saturday night of holiday weekend, families were out for a wonderful meal. Can't disparage them for good family time! Enjoy!

Service is fast and food is delicious. Brought my in-laws, who are from Sonora, MX, and they said it was great!

Vacio - This is NOT how medium rare is supposed to look. Where is the rare? Not the same quality steak as they used to serve.

Me and my family come here A LOT! We used to have dinner here twice a week. That's how good it was. The servers knew us by name, but they have all come and gone except one. The Vacio steak we used to absolutely love is no longer the same. We've been coming to this Sonora since it opened and always rave about our favorite cut of theirs, the Vacio. It used to be so flavorful and juicy. The first time it was different we thought the cook was probably just having an off day. We gave it another chance, and it was again a disappointment. The steak had no flavor and it was so dry. We always order it medium rare. Both times it arrived black on the outside and had a medium rare pink inside, but absolutely no juices flowing. The rare part didn't look rare at all. It was just pink compared to the black outer color. It tasted as if though it was frozen, thawed, cooked half way, then reheated. What happened?! What changed? Is it the steak? Is it the marinade? Is it the cooking process? I don't usually complain about my food, but I wanted to ask about the Vacio so we don't order it again if it is going to be like this from now on. The second time it came out like this we asked to speak to the manager, Nita, to find out what changed. The manager never came to our table! Our server told us he let her know that we wanted to ask a question, but she just relayed a message to us through him that nothing changed. When we were leaving we saw her sitting at a table with some guy. That's pretty bad that she didn't even want to talk to us considering we are regulars here. Very disappointing. We're not ordering steak from this place anymore. We will continue to come for burgers though...

The long: steak culture is incredibly mundane and steakhouses themselves often overcommit and underdeliver. Vue has cracked the code bringing flavor to steak houses. They go beyond the traditional salt and pepper approach and introduce Mexican and Hmong flavors in their dishes. If haven't had the honor of dining in a home from either culture, you're in for a treat. I personally like their New York strip Their family love can be felt in the decor, the interactions, the attention to the customers and the food. For me these were flavors and the culture of care I grew up with. So I'm exited for their success, mark my words they will be the best steakhouse in Washington in the next 2 years. They're working with something special here.

I'm sorry that I have to revise my original review. Instead of 2 stars, I'm changing it to 1…read more The reason is not only my original experience but also the owner's response. Rather than acknowledging my concerns, they chose to argue with my experience and made factual claims that are inaccurate. The reply also reads like a generic AI generated response instead of a genuine attempt to address customer feedback. First, there is no such thing as a "gaucho torta". In Argentine spanish, the word torta refers to a sweet cake. A savory sandwich is not called a torta, so this is clearly a creative invention rather than an Argentine dish. Second, my review was specifically about these kinds of "creative" reinterpretations, not about traditional cuisines. I have traveled extensively throughout Argentina, as well as other countries in Latin America and Europe, and I appreciate that every restaurant is free to innovate. However, when you choose to reinterpret a traditional cuisine, you should also expect that some customers will appreciate those changes while others will not. Both perspectives are valid. Regarding the chimichurri, traditional Argentine recipes have historically relied on neutral oils such as sunflower or corn oil, although recipes vary by region and household. Presenting your version as the definitive authentic one while dismissing a customer's perspective is misleading. The disappointing part was not the food itself but the response. Instead of engaging respectfully with a customer who offered thoughtful criticism, the owner chose to argue with my experience and present questionable "facts" as if they settled the matter. Constructive criticism is an opportunity to improve, not something to dismiss. Here is my original review, my apologies for the confusion on the "bowl": There is plenty of steak, but the bowl is styled to appear fuller than it is, with an excessive amount of greens doing the visual heavy lifting. The steak itself is buried under butter and a heavy white sauce that mutes rather than complements the beef. The large, roughly cut potatoes aspire to a rustic aesthetic but read as inexpensive filler. Most confusing is the lack of culinary identity, the dish isn't recognizably Mexican, Italian, or particularly refined. It mistakes richness for sophistication
