We visited River Rock Grill for their Mother's Day buffet brunch and unfortunately had a pretty disappointing service experience from the moment we arrived. We had a reservation and showed up about 10 minutes early, gave our name to the hostess, and then sat waiting in the lobby. After about 20 minutes of being completely forgotten about, I finally got back in line to ask about our table -- only to find out it had been ready for us the entire time. No one ever came to get us or update us. The food itself was actually pretty good. There was a solid variety, and several of the dishes were well prepared and enjoyable. However, the service continued to be nearly nonexistent throughout the meal. Outside of being seated, there were no check-ins, little interaction from staff, and we essentially handled everything ourselves during the experience. Because of that, the mandatory 20% gratuity felt pretty unreasonable considering there was virtually no actual service provided. We understand holiday brunches are busy and don't mind paying premium pricing for a special occasion, but the level of service simply didn't match the automatic gratuity or the expectations that come with a reservation-based Mother's Day event. Overall: decent food, but the service experience really took away from what should have been a special family outing. read more

River Rock Grill is located at the Maplewood Golf Course. In the summer, it's nice to sit on the patio and watch golfers, all while taking in the tranquil sounds of their outdoor fountain. I've eaten here at different times of the day, but I really enjoy eating breakfast here. Even though it's horrible for my Type I diabetes, I love breakfast potatoes. I have to say that their breakfast potatoes is by far the best I've ever had! Their sausage links are the best I've ever had as well. Bertha is an amazing server and is almost always there in the mornings. She knows "my usual" and remembers exactly how I like my food prepared. On this particular morning, I had a scary hypoglycemia episode. Bertha could tell something was wrong and literally dropped everything and ran to get me some orange juice. The place was pretty busy at the time but being the only server, she managed to gracefully juggle everyone's needs, all while making sure I was okay. INSIDER TIP: Their toast always comes already buttered so it's melted by the time you receive it. If you prefer to control your own butter intake, make sure to ask them not to butter it. Thankfully. The meal was much better than it began. We arrived and there was no staff to be seen. After 5 minutes we started looking around. Found someone working in the next room at the bar. Approached her and she said when finished with the drinks she'd be coming. Turns out she was the hostess, bar tender and waitress. She didnt have our reservation for 6, but luckiky there was plenty of room. But we had a timeline and were worried. However. She took our order and with the help of a hard working bus boy, we had a good breakfast in a timely manner. The California omelet was great. Also excellent crispy bacon. We try this potentially awesome outdoor space about every six months hoping there is decent service and decent food. After 30 minutes of sitting at a table this evening we left. The bus boy was the only person we saw working once we were seated. We even asked if we could get a drink from him but he said the waitress was just busy. This has been the exact same response since Covid! Never enough staff, no idea if the food has improved. Makes me sad because the location is great but that's about it. read more

We love coming here to eat and or have a drink after a golf game. This place is fairly close to us so we use this course as our home course. Or sometimes we just go to have dinner there which we have done a few times! The food is great! I usually order what ever special the chef has as he has a roving special menu. But the Chicken Piccata usually gets me! Or their California chicken sandwich is amazing! It is fun to also sit outside as the peanut gallery and watch the people come down off the 9th hole. The service is great and the staff is really friendly. The food is good as well. It is a nice little place to go to that is local and easy to get to! Kids are welcome here as well. It came to me still mooing blood all over the place. I sent it back and about 15 minutes later it came back WAY over done. I sent that back too. About 5 minutes later the bartender arrives and asked me about it. I explained the situation and she got really defensive when I mentioned about this review saying the waiter is trying his best. I stated to her that this doesn't involve the waiter, it's a problem with the so called cook in the back. Then she just stormed and left.. Great customer service!!. The price seemed fair but the buffet service was extremely poor - we were seated and told to start the buffet but there were no silverware or napkins available and we waited with our food for 10 mins before the silverware was delivered. We had to wait 10-15 mins for water - the soft drinks ordered arrived halfway thru the meal. The worst part was the mandatory 20% tip added to the bill. For a buffet?! We usually leave $3-$5 per person at a buffet - the 20% River Rock charged amounted to $11 per person for poor service! Also the buffet room was not clean and shabby looking. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

I came in about 15 to 20 minutes after they opened for breakfast on a Saturday. No one was in there, not oven a server. I waited several minutes and then heard people in the kitchen. I looked through the window on the kitchen door. There were several people running around. A cook saw me and motioned to some a few times that I was out there. Someone finally came out and asked if I wanted to sit at the bar. On Saturday morning? I asked for a window seat, and she seated me. She was returning to take my order, and someone stopped her to ask her questions. I think it was a supervisor. It took her a few minutes to get away to take my order. Again, I am the only customer there. I got a sausage and onion scramble. The eggs were overcooked and rubbery. The onion included skin. It came with red potatoes cut in large pieces fried. The best part was the English muffin with raspberry freezer jam. I didn't eat much. I did take most of it home. I might be able to doctor up the potatoes. The ambiance here is nice, it's a cool, dark, relaxed place to be. The service is friendly, though a bit on the slow side. The main thing that sticks out to me about this restaurant was the time I had breakfast here. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes, and was absolutely flabbergasted by the fact that they have absolutely no flavor what so ever. I don't mean to say that they were a bit bland - that would be giving them too much credit. These pancakes have the utter absence of flavor. TV static has more flavor than these things! I found myself scrambling to put as much butter and syrup on them as I could, just so I could taste SOMETHING! I don't know what lab they developed these things in, but clearly there was an experiment to serve food without any flavor at all - and they succeeded. I could see the pancakes. I could smell the pancakes. I could touch the pancakes. And I'm sure if I had checked, I could probably hear them had I dropped them on my plate. But no matter what I did, there was simply no flavor in them at all - and this was years before COVID! I've been told my family members that they like the food there, but I just don't understand it. Personally, I'll never go back there for breakfast ever again. Call me a pancake snob, but even McDonald's has better pancakes than this place. read more

This is one of our favorite dining spots. Feels like a bit of a hidden gem because it's never been busy anytime we've gone (even pre-COVID). They also have a pretty large parking lot and it's usually fairly easy to find parking (unless the golf course is extremely packed). Staff is always attentive and kind. They are all wearing masks and I watched them very thoroughly clean and sanitize each table as parties left. We've loved everything we've tried. This time around we ordered the bacon wrapped prawns which were very tasty but the best part of the dish was actually the kale! It was delicious, not at all bitter and we actually wished there was more kale! We both had steaks for dinner and they were perfectly cooked to our request (medium rare). The mushroom sauce on mine was amazing. My husband's had a garlic butter sauce which he also really enjoyed. I was meeting a friend for lunch who lives in the Maple Valley area, so she suggested River Rock Grill, a restaurant I had never heard of until she mentioned it. It turned out to be a great lunch! Located on a golf course, the restaurant is open to the public and is spacious enough for many parties and gatherings. We were able to sit out on the patio, which looks out to the golf course and fountains. It made for a nice setting. It was also cool to see the golfers pull up and order something from the take-out window, a convenient way to get something quick if you're golfing. The lunch menu featured many standard staples, like sandwiches, burgers, salads, etc. I ordered the kale and avocado caesar salad with blackened salmon, which was delicious! The blackened salmon was perfectly cooked and not at all salty, which sometimes is the case with blackened salmon. Kale was fresh, and was tossed in the caesar dressing, which made it more tender to chew. I enjoyed it. I don't often visit this neck of the woods, but am glad my friend suggested it. For anyone around this part of Renton/Maple Valley, I'd recommend checking out River Rock Grill for a solid meal and friendly service. Or if you need a refresher from golfing. read more

I have been here twice now. They have daily specials. The first time I got the beef stroganoff and it was the best I have ever had. Yesterday they had a chicken saltimbocca (what I ordered). It was delicious with a very savory Madeira sauce, garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. Another special was a cheese ravioli, stuffed with a very well seasoned ricotta and mozzarella and side of garlic bread. It was so good I wanted to keep eating his. I love this place! I golf at Maplewood a lot and go here often for both drinks and food. Food is good and drinks are too. I like to sit on the patio when it is nice and watch people duff their tee shots on their first hole. Also have indoor seating and a bar with sports on the TVs. I once at a hamburger here. Me likey. Good service and staff as well. There was this younger Indian girl who was bussing, refilling water and working hard. I was impressed by her work ethic I didn't get her name. But told her she was doing an amazing job. I like it when people do their job to the best they can. Keep up the good work! read more

I've been attempting to knock out the businesses in my bookmarks recently, and we tend to to go on date nights but not date MORNINGS... So, we changed that! River Rock Grill is fairly close to us - only about 15 minutes away, which was great. Normally we'd have to drive into the Eastside or DT Seattle to find a good brunch spot so I was glad to discover RRG has some pretty high accolades for their breakfast and brunch. When we got there we were greeted right away and seated right away - bonus! We definitely expected a wait on a Saturday morning. The restaurant has a view of the golf course and of the fountain out on the patio - it's a cute view. I couldn't decide between the Corned Beef Hash or the Eggs Benedict and the waitress suggested the Corned Beef Hash, so I went with it. My boyfriend got the Biscuits & Gravy and got a side order of both gravies (chorizo and original) to see which he'd like best. My Corned Beef Hash was super good! For my Corned Beef Hash fans, y'all know there's two types - the mushy type that they typically crisp on the outside, and then the kind with like the real shredded corned beef. I'm a fan of both, but the mushy type is my fave (I know, I'm a trash human). River Rock has the real, shredded type. Every place I've been to that does it this way usually has their beef WAY too dry and just not good, but not here. It's SO moist (and I hate that word) and packed full of flavor. It was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend's Biscuits & Gravy was good too. He was a fan of the original gravy more than the chorizo, but I was actually the other way around. The chorizo was definitely different and not something you get often out of a gravy so I was a fan. On top of all of those high points, the prices here are fantastic. For two, we got out of here with our bill being under $30 (before tip). Personally, I think it's easy to spend $40 - $50 on two at brunch these days so that price was definitely welcomed in my book! I think the only thing I wish is that they had more menu options. Other than that, no big complaints! read more

We were seated... waited 5 minutes for water and when the wait staff came we just ordered because we weren't sure we would even see her again. There were flies flying all around us...I HATE flies. My husband and I stopped here for lunch. He had the salmon salad which he really liked. I got the California chicken sandwich which wasn't great. The ingredients seemed fresh, but the flavor wasn't there. The chicken was marinated, but you couldn't taste that because there was so much cheese. There was also a lot of mayo which wasn't supposed to be on the sandwich according to the menu. Those two elements stole the show of the rest of the sandwich. I also ordered an iced tea that must've been recently freshly brewed. The ice melted quickly and refills were warm. Overall, probably not a place I'd go back to. read more

We had dinner here as a family tonight for my Fathers 81st birthday. When our food came out, our fajitas set off the fire alarm and it was LOUD and after several minutes of discomfort and no end in sight, the restaurant emptied out. Some people just up and left. Others quickly took their food to go. We chose to go stand outside until the fire department eventually arrived and turned the alarm off. When we returned to our seats our food was now cold. We discussed our options and decided to make the best of it. Here's where it gets weird. Service to our table stopped. No one checked on us, filled our waters, asked if we needed anything, nothing until a dessert menu was dropped off. Our bill arrived and it was not discounted in any way. No one proactively thought maybe it would have been the right thing to do to offer us an apology in the form of a discount on our meal or a free dessert. I had to ask which means it was never a consideration. They took the bill and returned with a 25% discount on the "hot food" items. While I appreciated this, it was still incredibly disappointing. Our food just wasn't great after sitting. Fish was cold. Steak was cold. Fries were cold. My coffee was cold. And the kicker is no one ever came over to even ask us how we were doing or if the food was ok. Really poor experience. read more

we used to love gong to The River Rock on Friday and Saturdays in the summer because it is one of the few places in Renton to hear live music. This last time was the third time this summer and it was just awful. We sat at our table for 15 minutes before anyone brought water. We still had no idea who our server was so we went to the bar to order drinks ourselves. They had only one beer on tap--still out of Manny's since we were there last week. The server finally made her way to our table 15 minutes later to take our orders. I had a steak salad that had dry over cooked steak. It was not served with a steak knife and it was difficult to eat. Another person in our party had the vegetable pasta dish. It barely had any vegetables and was very bland. My husband had a burger and fries which was decent. The golf course restaurant owner is John Parks and my toxic encounter was with Mr. Parks. I was sitting down in the back of the River Rock Grill, near the putting green. I was sitting at the patio enjoying the Sunshine and silently judging 1st tee slice shots I was approached by a waitress and she gave me a menu, then I told her that there would a 2nd party joing my table. I was enjoying my cold diet coke when owner Mr. Parks approached me and abruptly told me that I cannot sit where I was sitting. He told me that there was a party of four that will be taking my table. I tried reasoning with him that I was settled in, but he wouldn't have it and forced me to another table. It wasn't long before a party came along and occupied my seat. Wouldn't you know it, it ended up being a party of two. I moved out to Issaquah from Southington, CT back in 2005 and made a frequent visits here with friends and with one swift moment owner John Parks ruined experience here permanently at River Rock Grill. I don't know why the owner would treat a loyal customer differently. I don't know what I did to receive such hostile service. River Rock will not be getting another penny from my pocket. read more

Years ago we discovered River Rock diner while strolling through the backwoods of Cedar River Trail busy catching Pokémon!( What a unique discovery) So we decided to have brunch on a Saturday morning. Turned out being fantastic! Available parking behind Maple Valley Golf course, seeing people driving golf carts making orders was interesting, picked up from a little window around the rear of a restaurant. Gorgeous view on the rooftop.( Our house can be vaguely seen uphill) Breakfast hour ends in 11am, so we usually skip the sunshine and get more choices on the menu like the Fried Steak with grill&gravy on it. Wheat toast is better than most of the diners I've eaten. Even though it seems they do not have enough staff by the time of our arrival,I think we should wake up early trying their breakfast LoL. The three of us enjoyed our brunch and we also liked the interior decors, including the warm chairs, very classic. Whoever own this business must have spent tons of ideal thoughts on its attraction. The draw for us is the patio overlooking the 1st tee. The atmosphere is very casual. We've been here quite a bit, and they always seem short staffed, but if you're not in a rush and want to hang out, it might be just the right spot. I've had a few things on the menu: Cobb salad is great, it's always consistent. The burgers & fries are good. First time back to River Rock since the pandemic Our lunch was great! Our servers were some of the best I've had. Polite and efficient My sister and i both ordered fish and chips. Their fries are really, really good. Coleslaw was exactly the way i like it. The fish was breaded which is my favorite way to eat it. Two of the pieces were excellent but one was dry and stringy like it had been frozen too long. Fortunately i was full by the time i bit into that one. Tarter sauce was excellent also We had the brownie sundae and it was wonderful I am mildly disabled and i couldnt find disabled parking So the reason i took off one star is because of the one piece of fish and the parking.
