This was our first time at Sonoran House for a meal. We had a 6pm reservation but arrived early to try the new speakeasy Old pueblo club - they offered to seat us in there for our dinner. It's an interesting space and we ultimately enjoyed it but the seating is a bit odd for a full meal. This was my first time at this restaurant. I was meeting up with former staff as a member of the team was leaving, and made this suggestion as they like to go here. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Service for the 8 of us was accurate, fast, and friendly. I had the Blackened Shrimp and a Lavendar Lemonade. The shrimp was a bit over blackened and charred, but once that part was scraped off was flavorful. The dipping salsa was delicious. The fried tortilla chips were a perfect compliment. The lemonade was too sweet, but once a slice of lemon was squeezed in, was refreshing and tasty. I'll give this one another try soon! read more

My review is only for take out!! Definitely not the best for to-go orders but seems great for dine in. I was in town for an event we were hosting. We had a post-event debrief meeting & our venue's restaurant wasn't open for lunch. We decided to grab to-go from this restaurant because it was the closest option that wasn't fast food. The service overall was friendly enough, though it was a bit confusing in terms of where to put the order in. We intentionally ordered salads thinking that would be faster than anything else on the menu. Once the order was placed, they shared it'd be about 10-15 minutes for the order to be prepped but ultimately it took the kitchen almost 25 minutes to prepare two salads to go... It's a cool restaurant that has an interesting retail and restaurant set up and I'm sure it'd be great for a local's day out on the town, but it wasn't the best experience for us. read more

Sonoran House did a great job transforming what was once part of the Rincon Market, which then turned into Flora's Market Run. The section that was formerly the fish market area is now the bar. When you enter, to your left is the barista, to the right is a little retail area, and straight back is the dining area and bar. I ordered the arugula salad which is served with pickled Shallot, charred zucchini ribbons, cherry tomatoes toasted pepitas, and crispy chickpeas with a prickly pear vinaigrette. I added salmon. I was pleased the portion of the salmon and the how it was cooked. There are definitely more menu items that I'd like to return and try. I also had an oatmilk match after the meal and if I was rating the beverage alone, I'd give it 2 stars. Unfortunately, the oat milk to matcha ratio is off. Too much milk for my taste. I ordered the small portion and didn't finish it. I think there is room for improvement in that area. Overall nice addition to the Sam Hughes neighborhood. read more

I stopped by on a Sunday morning for a quick to-go Crunchwrap. I placed my order - super easy, of course. I did not plan my time appropriately, and I had to cancel the order due to an appointment in the same plaza. Lo and behold 30 minutes later a server brought the meal to the salon where I was at. My stylist arranged it, but I cannot say how thankful I was for this incredible customer service!!!! And the meal was beyond outstanding. I thought it would be smaller, but it was huge!!! The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy and deliciously seasoned. The hash browns were softer, which is so much more pleasant to eat than the dried out crunchy ones. The cheddar cheese brought it all together. And the tortilla? Wow!!!!!! Fresh and delicious, as well. It came with sour cream and hot sauce - another shockingly good accompaniment. The salad was very flavorful with pickled shallot, zucchini strips, tomatoes, pepitas, and toasted chickpeas, mixed with a prickly pear vinaigrette. The flavors were quite delicious together. The turkey sandwich included Brie (hence the name), green apple, arugula, pickled shallot, prickly pear jam, aioli, and dijon on grilled sourdough bread. Simply delicious. I also had their old fashioned. For being their busy happy hour, service was prompt, polite, and efficient. The atmosphere was lively, but not overbearing. Sonoran House is such a vibe. It's one of those places where you walk in and immediately want to wander around and take it all in. Part coffee house, part market, part restaurant -- plus it's attached to a second restaurant, which makes it feel like a whole little destination rather than just a quick stop. Huge win for the vegan options -- the vegan mezze cheese board was a standout, and the hibiscus iced tea was so refreshing and perfectly balanced. I also loved browsing the local vendor goods and ended up picking up a few great gifts (always a danger in spots like this). Service was friendly and on point, which really rounded out the experience. Only heads-up: parking is chaotic, especially during busy times, so give yourself a little extra patience. Went here for lunch for the first time and it was a pleasant experience. The waitress was very nice. She explained the menu very well and with her descriptions I started off with the charcuterie chips and a glass of tea. The appetizer was really nice having thin crispy homemade chips with the prickly pear mixture. When I go next time I would order this and ask them if they could add mesquite pulled pork or another protein. My main course was the carne plate. Charbroiled steak, smashed potatoes, sunset mushrooms, charred scallions chimichurri. The meat was very tender and had good flavor and all the ingredients parred well together. If I ordered this again I would ask to cut the mushrooms smaller as the mushrooms were very large ingredient. The fresh tea that I had was very tasty and I can't recall the name of the flavor, but it was flavorful. This place had allot to offer and I'm sure you will find an item you would enjoy. If you are vegetarian they have many choices on the menu to choose from. My friend ordered the enchiladitas and I will also provide those photos. That plate also looked delicious. read more

Google is pretty awful. When I look up dinner places in Tucson, this place comes up with a coffee cup symbol next it. I wouldn't have known about this place had I not come here for a fabulous birthday dinner. Will also preface that my review is a 4.5 round up as there were little improvement opps that could have made it a true 5-star experience. We were supposed to be in the speakeasy space but there was a party going on in there. Not sure if that had been communicated to our organizer. 5-star opp 1. After having gone into the speakeasy after dinner, I was glad that we sat in the main dining area. There were 11 of us and we were well taken care of by the staff, even with the check splitting (BOCA, take note!). I ordered a Kir Royale, which our server was unsure about. I asked if they had a full bar and she said oh yeah, for sure but then came back to tell me that they didn't have Chambord. She had to ask me again what the drink was then Google it. 5-star opp 2. Not the smoothest exchange but we worked it out. For our mains, I ordered the Girl Dinner which consisted of caesar salad and choice of protein. I chose salmon, shoestring truffle fries, and a glass of Prosecco which I ended up getting instead of my Kir Royale. Everything was great, fish was cooked perfectly. The hub ordered the chef's choice carne, which ended up being filet which came with smashed potatoes and mushrooms. The morning after he was raving about what a perfect medley of flavors everything was. I could see that they "cooked" his steak perfectly as well, still mooing as he likes it. For dessert I had the peach polenta upside down cake. Pineapple upside down cake is my childhood favorite. To opt for peaches was genius and delicious! Both the hub and I can't wait to return to try other menu items. He, this morning, already mentioned wanting to try the fish and I am down to kill some carpaccio. After dinner, we filed into the speakeasy. Not exactly as I imagined. Could have been dimmed down a little. Needs the wear and tear of time but worth going into for the experience. I bought a of their carajillo for the birthday girls. Not as rich in flavor as the ones at La Chingada. SH's was more like a Birthday Cake shot on the rocks, but I love those, too. Recently I got the honor of visiting Sonoran House - Sam Hughes location for dinner and they have a new menu.. and it's fantastic. Well, what we've had so far. We'll be back for more. We ordered quite a bit, everything delicious. The bone marrow with the brûlée is where we started, served with toast and a spicy sweet jam.. perfectly salty. Then follow by some super crispy and fresh vegan Caesar salad was great. Finish with a perfectly cooked salmon atop rice with basil oil with veggies. Yum! We also enjoyed some caviar with champagne and red wines. They have quite broad selection of meals and drinks, Gabby created such a wonderful menu and the team service overall was great. Well kept space and enjoyable in the evening. Hopefully you get a chance to visit soon and get some experiences of your own. This place has great first impressions. The decor is really nice and they got a lot of cool items in their market section. It seems like it has great vibes for studying or getting work done. I came to Sonoran House again to study and once again had an okay experience. I ordered the Sonoran House tea hot, which is a blend of fruits and hibiscus. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish it. I was able to find a table to sit, but I will say Sonoran House is not the coffee shop vibe where this is easy to do. With the bar in the same room as shop, it is more difficult to get cozy when people are watching a game. I appreciate the concept of trying to cater to both crowds, but the execution is not ideal. I may come back to Sonoran House to pick up some local goods, but I doubt I will back for their drinks or study location. read more

I liked the caesar dressing but the salad didn't come with very much steak, if you consider we paid $12 to add meat. I was really looking forward to the crab cakes but I found them disappointing. I've been to Sonoran House in Sam Hughes three times now: once for happy hour, once for dinner during Sonoran Restaurant Week, and once for breakfast. It's quite good for all three, and makes for a fun spot to meet up with friends. When I visited at breakfast, I got the Breakfast Crunchwrap and an iced Pumpkin Spice Latte. The latte was really lovely! It had great flavor, lots of cinnamon, and wasn't too sweet. The crunchwrap was good, but distinctly not crunchy in any way. It was a flavorful mix of eggs, hashbrowns, and pico inside (though I personally felt it definitely needed the hot sauce I added), wrapped hexagonally in a tortilla. The tortilla was uniformly soft, even gummy in the places where it was folded over itself several times. I think it would have benefitted from either a harder sear on a flattop (or in a panini press) or would have worked better as a standard burrito. If it stays in its current form, then I strongly encourage Sonoran House to give diners metal silverware with which to eat it. The plastic fork and knife weren't really up to the task. At my happy hour visit, a friend and I had cocktails and shared some tapas, including the Truffle Fries and Mezze Board. The Mezze Board is a great option, boasting a Mediterranean spread of cheeses, spreads, olives, tabouleh, and vegetables. I would absolutely get it again! We both got the Catalina Wine Mixer, which was definitely a hit for us. Bubbly, summery, and refreshing! While their Sonoran Restaurant Week menu was special and limited-time only, so I don't want to whet your appetite for things that you can't walk in and order today, I will say that it was a wonderful meal from salad to entree to dessert. Despite the fact that I'm an omnivore, I particularly appreciated that every single course had a vegan option, since many SRW menus don't cater to dietary restrictions. I'll look forward to future special events and special menus here! Their menu is pricey at first glance, but I've found all their portions to be good-sized, easy to share or save part for leftovers. read more

Hmm...cute spot in Sam Hughes area. Connected to Redbird Scratch Kitchen. Met a friend on a rainy day here. It's set up more like a coffee shop, seat yourself kinda thing. People drinking coffee and working on computers or chatting. A little loud, a big bar situated on the back wall. Very cute little shop in the front with a Tucson inspired selection of items. Wait staff was nice, attentive enough. Being a cold day I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The menu description says there are multiple cheeses on a traditional bread. When the meal came the sandwich was not super hot, had a little cheese lumped in the center of the bread (cheddar was all I could detect) on a very very thick Texas toast type bread. Too much bread, not enough cheese in my opinion. Soup was not very hot or flavorful unfortunately either. I didn't finish either. If you need a mild comfort food dish this is for you, just ask that it's delivered hot. On the other hand my friend ordered a flatbread that was amazing. She graciously shared a couple pieces with me. Chicken with a chipotle cream sauce. Delicious! Large enough for two to share at lunch or bar snack. Not a bad experience, just a wrong choice on my part I think. I might make it back in for a coffee or a cocktail and a sit down but maybe not a meal. read more

I liked this place. I really wanted to love it but my experience was a mix of seeing some really cool things to some spotty service, to really nice and friendly service. We made reservations for my wife and I. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation, but the parking lot was packed. It took us a while, and one finally became available after driving through several times. We were quickly seated because our table had a "reserved" sign to hold it and not like some restaurants that use "hope" as a strategy. Old school nice touch. After being seated, we had to wait a few minutes for someone to approach our table (I'd say 5-10 minutes). Really nice server but could tell he wasn't trained very well. Sequence of service missing. Letting us know what the featured fish was didn't happen. I ordered a beef carpaccio and wasn't asked if I wanted the grilled sourdough. I ended up flagging him down after noticing it was an option and added it to our order. Food and drink presentations were creative and above average. Our truffled fries were delicious. My wife ordered the espresso martini flight, and they accidentally made three full martini drinks, so this was a bonus. I had a glass of Nebbiolo and it was probably a day after its serviceable time. I still drank it. These things happen. Shrimp cocktail was nicely presented, really spicy, chips were stale and chewy, and dish could use a spoon to scoop out the salsa. My carpaccio was very nicely presented, and portion was very generous. It was garnished with what looked like dehydrated capers. I thought this was cool. I didn't think the lack of flavor did this dish justice though. I could have used some acid like a squeeze of lemon, the aioli was bland so maybe the kick could have come from there. Grilled bread was delicious. The grinder was good. The peach upside down tasty but heavy- portion was huge for a dessert so good for sharing. We did some people watching and enjoyed some really good cocktails in the secret speak easy after for a nightcap which rounded out a pretty good date night. read more

I first off wanna say that if anyone loves bread they should just come here for the bread. I had the most amazing grilled cheese sandwich ever. The bread was super fluffy and so tasty. I had them add prosciutto since it's a fancy restaurant and they don't have ham. This restaurant is located in old Rincon market. The service was decent. It was kind of slow and I had to wave down our server once or twice otherwise I had an amazing experience. Came with some girlfriends on a Friday night we made a reservation so we were seated right away on the patio. We started with the whipped feta and OMG it was AMAZING!!! Highly recommend ordering an extra side of pita bread if splitting between friends. 2 of us got girl dinners which is fries, Caesar salad and prosecco or house wine. The fries are two string fries, super crispy and delicious, and the salad was perfectly dressed. We had both added chicken to our salads and neither one of us ended up having chicken on our salad and we waited a very long time after the food was at the table to get the chicken which was a little bit disappointing it was also very chewy so I'd pass on chicken when going back. I didn't personally try the shrimp cocktail, but my friend was not the biggest fan of it, but I think that the whip feta made up for all of the other problems we had with our food. I felt very rushed at the end because there were no other table seated outside, like they had taken down all the lights except for ours before we got our checks but then when we went inside, there were tables that were just getting food. We ended the night at the speak easy in the back which was super awesome I loved the vibes. Will definitely visit again soon. read more

I have been there at a slow time and had breakfast and great bar service. Then I came another day when it was busy and had the same attendant and it was a totally different experience. She might have had too many tables and the kitchen might have been too busy. Breakfast was super delicious but dinner at a busy time was not. The chairs are very uncomfortable, making me feel like they only considered the young, college kids experience. I have money to spend, but I want to dine in a place that's considers the customer's comfort. read more
