We came a couple of months ago and had their loaded yucca fries with carne asada as well as some pupusas. The meat on our fries felt really low quality-- the best way I could describe it was it tasting like frozen hamburger meat-- and gave us indigestion for the rest of the night, which was really disappointing to experience. Today we unfortunately experienced some really rude service. My bf ordered a plain water and we were given a fresco ensalada (no big deal, he likes it) We don't eat pork and ordered fried yucca on its own, just yucca frita. We were given a plate of yucca con chicharron :( I told the service we just ordered yucca frita and we were told that we did not specify that for her. I explained that we don't eat pork so we sent it back and were met with a displeasing look. I said we didn't want to yucca anymore since we had a lot of food already and she said "the kitchen already made it." So I said it was fine but just the yucca this time and she came back with the same exact plate just without the chicharron-- no visible plate change. Needless to say for the price, decline in food quality, and rude service, it's not worth coming back. At least not for a while.

The chicharrón was cooked perfectly as well, and the homemade green salsa that the sweet lady helping us made was the perfect addition. She was so kind, welcoming, and always had a friendly smile, which made the experience even better. Another thing that really stood out was how clean the restaurant is. It's spacious, with plenty of seating whether you're coming with a large group, your family, or just stopping by for a meal on your own. We absolutely loved this place and will definitely be back. Next time we're bringing my Salvadoran in-laws- I have a feeling this place will get their authenticity approval too! So much flavor packed into these things, these are some of the best pupusas I've ever had, good size and they do not cheap us out on filling. Definitely try em if you're in the area! Parking on the street, or in the back very limited in the alley.

The service of this place just ruined my day and I was just in no mood after that. I don't wanna say that this place is completely awful and terrible, no. The food was pretty good even though my pupusas didn't look so cool but at least they were tasty enough to have a slight dinner. But the staff spoiled my whole impression about Sonsonate. Totally rude and disrespectful. After doing my order the lady went but a couple of minutes after I wanted to order more drinks and politely asked her to come when she showed me like "one min" and ran away. Then I noticed her again and called one more time and she came and said like there were enough people and that I shouldn't bother her every minute. Wow. My desire of staying there just vanished. We finished our plates, payed and just walked away. This place needs some good management and staffing. read more

We were excited about celebrating Father's Day at an authentic Salvadoran restaurant. It had been Highly Recommended. This place isn't worth the hype...nor the drive from OC. Food is sub-par, at best. The worse part...the way they find ways to charge extra, even for a glass of water. Service? Absolute disaster! But then again, I should have known better. The U.S. customer service standards don't apply in our beloved culture...no mattter what side of the border you are on. So, so, disaappointed and dissatisfied. Que lastima. I got so undefined experience after visiting this place, it's strange and hard to say. I liked food and drinks. Portions are huge and overall the selection is pretty rich. The service is something negative there. We weren't greeted at all and waited for a waitress for about 10 min. She looked liked it was all taken for granted. By the way, I'm not sure that covid precautions are followed right there. It concerns masks on the chin and I noticed a waitress wiping down 2 tables with the same towel without using a sanitizer.
