The food was not good. The service was horrible. It's one of those places wheee the manager is so cheap that he tries to save a penny and loses a dollar. They are extremely petty here. I got a steak breakfast and when they brought the plate there was no steak. It was such a small piece that I had to ask them where is the steak. They told me it is their portions. I told them that it's ok and I didn't want the plate at all then. The waitress told me that I had to pay for the plate regardless or the cheap manager would charge her. I ate it out of pity for her. I did notice a couple tried to dine in and he immediately told them that they couldn't dine in due to CDC guidelines. So I felt very comfortable with the take-out order. The food was okay, we ordered a handful of pupusas, chicharrones y yuka frita & pastellitos. All the pupusas tasted more like masa then the actual filing. For our order of chicharrones y yuka frita they barely gave us any chicharron it was mainly curtido(pickled vegetables). Not sure if I would come back here but service was great! The bummer about the whole thing is that their "Salvadorean Breakfast", according to the restaurant, doesn't include plantains. The man on the phone tried to fast talk his way out of it . This place is something straight out of Nicolas Winding Refn movie. I've never had the pleasure of being here for karaoke night but I hope to change that. Mi Bandera is literally a hole in the wall in south central. If you're brave enough to get out of your car I promise you, you won't be disappointed. Their claim to fame here are obviously the pupusa's but they offer so much more and all traditional El Salvadoran. I personally had the chicharon pupusa and the revuelta. The dough was fried perfect and the flavors were on point. Their slaw was fresh and flavorful. Again, temper your expectations when you enter and set your fear aside and you'll have a great time and enjoy some delicious food. The service is also very friendly and welcoming. Very much a hole in the wall gem. There's was a mini-hiccup trying to navigate seating (as some areas are for to-go only) due to language barrier but nothing horrible. Spot is very homey and the music is great! As for the food: best pupusas ive ever had in my life. Dough was perfectly kneaded, not tough, and not too coarse. The pupusa was perfectly cooked too, most times I have to ask for them well done but this was the perfect char! Whatever cheese they use literally gives you the cinematic, picture-perfect cheese pull that you see in commercials. The curtido was perfect as well, not too much vinegar and not soggy either-- the perfect crunch to compliment the soft, pillow, gooey goodness of the pupusa. Lastly, the house salsa it's served with surprisingly good as well. Salvadorian salsa can be a hit or miss for me but theirs was perfect, and a great spice level too. They gave me this complimentary ice cream bar that was AMAZING too! Tasted like mango banana and coconut. Not sure if it's on the menu but definitely ask for one! Perfect post-meal palette cleanser. Overall amazing. Don't think I could see myself enjoying another pupusa other than theirs! TL;DR: Conversational Spanish will aid in your experience.
