The phone rings off the hook here for takeout orders (note to self: don't sit by the phone counter next time, lol). Came on a Monday right before lunch peak hours but also on 1/2 which was an observed holiday and we lucked out and got the last seats. Service was great. Everyone was very kind and fast but also felt at times it was hard to grab their attention. Food was delicious. Their hand made thick corn tortillas is a must try. Note, it's an extra $0.50 cents for four but it's worth it. 5/5 Caldo de Gallina (soup of chicken/hen) This dish was so so good I literally drank the entire soup and forgot about the rice and chicken because I wanted to finish the soup before it got too cold. Also, this dish is huge they brought out a big plate of chicken and rice and salad with tortilla and had to go back and grab a big bowl of soup. I substituted white rice with Mexican rice. 5/5 Camaron Ojo (garlic shrimp) My mom says she only comes here for this dish. A close friend and I have been hunting to purchase a home for her. And this border of Eaglerock: A perfect melange of urban and rustic. Without the fire insurance debacle. Then our stomachs started growling and the nearest and dearest spot we came across whilst driving thru a mini canyon was the Eaglerock location. We are both vegetarians so it was a fun adventure. Portions are on the medium to large side, either way, you get your money's worth. I've been coming here for a few years now for their pupusas, they are delicious. If you come Sunday's at noon it is really busy and you have to wait for a table but after like 1:30 there's no waiting for tables. Since they make their pupusas right when you order them, you have to wait about 15 min for them to be ready but they are with the wait. I prefer to eat at the restaurant rather than taking it to go because they give you unlimited curtido for your pupusas. The owner of the restaurant is really nice and he makes conversation with his guests. The other employees are also very nice and attentive. They parking lot is shared with the other businesses in the plaza so some times finding parking is hard specially cuz their spaces are compact. If the parking lot is full you can try finding parking in the street. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for about 5 years now. I love their pupusas. The owner is really friendly and so is the staff. I always feel so welcomed when I go and they always make conversation and make an effort to know their regular customers. They provide excellent customer service. I've dinned in and gotten take out and no matter which way I order the pupusas always taste delicious. I call ahead of time before arriving and place my order and once I get there my order is already ready and waiting for me. I've been to other pupusa places and they don't taste as tasty and authentic as the ones here. I would definitely say the pupusas are their specialty. La Esquina is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. It's located on busy Eagle Rock Blvd. Parking is tricky so we sometimes walk to avoid having to find a space. All of that said, the food is delicious! My daughter loves the tacos dorados. The combo comes with salad, rice, and beans. They even give slices of avocado with the salad. The homemade tortillas are so good. It's a must go to place for my parents when they visit from the Bay Area. The restaurant is always busy; lots of business especially at lunchtime. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We've been for lunch and dinner, but our friends have been for breakfast and highly recommend it. Good Morning I bought some Pupusas here and they were. The cheese ones were nicely filled. The mixed ones well I hardly got cheese and mostly beans they were good. The cultido they make I got a big chunk of onion it should be more finely chopped even the cabbage it was more chunkier . but it was ok the salsa was good too. I rarely give five stars. I'm a white boy, I eat a ton of Latin food both home cooked and restaurants. This is my local spot and I'm pretty sure the main lady here hasn't liked me for years. She serves me delicious cheese and pepper pupusas, and other meals (the typical is another go to and my girl always orders the platanos), and I do my best to not be just another annoying white patron, in what used to be a mostly brown neighborhood... and I even come here with my Latino friends and she still gives me the side eye ha! For real tho, she is sweet at heart and there is a new staff person there now, who is rather kind. Usually they don't serve you very warmly, and my last trip there was completely different. I got service brought to my table rather than asked to come get my food and I was brought not only other necessary items for my meal, but also some extras; it was a new and warm touch from the staff...and appreciated! Food and Service are nothing overly special, but absolutely special at the very same time. If you are a person that loves your local Salvadoran/Mexican food spot, this is a place to NOT avoid... food is solid, people here are lovely...even if they are tired of white ppl in their spot sometimes LOL... Second the service is horrible the older waitress is shortcoming and with a bad attitude. Today me and my sister went for lunch and ordered a caldo de res (beef stew) and a caldo de pollo (chicken broth) and the caldo de res had a cockroach which my sister didn't find untold she was almost done with her food. And I found a hair on my rice and one on my caldo de pollo. When we addressed it to the waitress she said the cockroach was a small trash and the hair was "valid". Unfortunately, I took my sweet time composing this review, and the memory banks are not as sharp as they should be. But I can say this, I will not forget this delicious meal. You will find them in basic, humble surroundings with limited seating and parking challenges. Oh well. This is still the right place to come, even if you must order to go. First of all, this meal was special because it gave us a new perspective on Salvadorian food. We all know about pupusas and such, but how many folks venture forth into new territory and discover the exceptional? The key can be as simple as asking, "What do you recommend?" We did. First, ask about the Costillas de Rez. These are the same cut as the thin Korean short ribs with bone attached. They are simply marinated then griddled along with onions and bell pepper, caramelized wonderfully, then served with their most delicious rice and beans. A must try. But, I think this next next dish was even better. So much better, I was unwilling to share my leftovers (of which there was plenty). Costillas de Puerco en Salsa Rojo, meaty pork ribs simmered in a complex, savory yet not spicy red sauce. They come out so beautifully tender they had me figuratively on my knees. Rice and beans came with this dish too. So much goodness on one plate, it should be outlawed (well, except when I am there). Homemade tortillas (yum), cucumber, radish, sliced ripe tomatoes, and a spicy raw greenery called "berro", garnished each plate. Look it up. The fresh flavors snapped. And it definitely made me feel less guilty. From the Mexican portion of the menu we got a couple of Cabeza tacos. These are the traditional street tacos made with mini soft tortillas everyone knows and loves. Very generous portions of delicious meat, you will not go wrong ordering this either. We could not ignore the Plantanos Fritos, the ripened until sweet, cooked to a delicious caramelized state, cooking bananas. These are traditional and always become my personal dessert! Still cash only. But they will definitely not empty your wallet. Step away from those pathetic chains and experience authentic. Wonderful, real food. read more

Not my first time coming here however, this last time was a bad experience. The food is OK ambience also OK, but the service was terrible. I normally order pupusas to go for my family, and pupusas always supposed to come with curtido and sauce. Any Salvadoran restaurant you go to the pupusas always come with curitido and sauce. I live about 20 minutes away from this place; as soon as I arrived home and opened the bag there was no curtido and no sauce; it was a big disappointment. I called and let them know; they said to drive back and they'll give us the missing items. By then the pupusas will be cold. I thought that was pretty bad service. They should've offered something extra. Maybe a free pupusa something but nothing; we didn't go back. It's too far; not sure if I'll ever go back again. read more

I called back to clarify the price the lady on the phone claimed that the price was subject to change. So the daily price apparently that day was 2.69. I won't lie the pupusas are good, the 2 stars is for their service it's shitty to be real honest. They ask for you to call ahead of time to place orders but yet they NEVER ANSWER, and they have a sign placed of hours which state they close at 8pm but when I arrived at 730 they told me they are closed.
