For at least the past 50 years, I have been every dentist's and hygienist's nightmare, being among the world's worst gaggers. 10-15 seconds at a time in the back of my mouth was all they had before having to "pullout" and let me swallow to avoid gagging! I can only guess how many patients sitting in the waiting rooms must have heard me gagging and got up and ran from the building! Having said all that, I went to Dr. Schroder for the first time 21 years ago, and he and his hygienists immediately knew how to calm me and keep me relaxed, giving me frequent pauses in their work so I could regroup when they noticed a gag coming! I'm sure it takes them twice as long to work on me, but they never complain, and treat me with great respect and friendliness. Instead of dreading going to the dentist, I now go quarterly for cleanings and look forward to seeing everyone at the office! As others have said, Dr. Schroder keeps himself in the forefront of new technology, his calm and confident manner lets me know I am in the best hands possible, and I have recommended him to many friends and family members. I have had bridges, crowns, root canals...all were completely successful and pain free. On occasion, Dr. Schroder has even called my home a few hours afterward to make sure I was recovering well. Another great sign of a well run dental office and a well thought-of boss is the fact of virtually no turnover of personnel. The bookkeeper, receptionist, hygienists and dental assistants have all worked with Dr. Schroder for many years. Lastly, I have to thank my "personal angel" hygienist Maida! How anyone could have such patience and still keep smiling while cleaning my teeth year after year is a wonder to me! This is probably more than you wanted to know, but suffice it to say, you will not find a better dentist and dental office anywhere than Dr. Schroder. I'm new to the San Antonio area and in general, have had a hard time finding quality medical providers. After online search after search, I finally typed in "best dentist in San Antonio" and Dr. Schroder's name popped up. Making an appointment was very fast and easy. I was able to get in the same week I called. When I arrived for my appointment, the front desk staff were all very kind. I filled out paperwork and sat down in one of the most comfortable waiting areas ever. I probably could have taken a nap, but I was promptly seen by the dental hygienist, Maida Taft. I have never had such a painless cleaning. Maida was thorough, but gentle. She explained to me every step she was taking. Afterwards I saw Dr. Schroder, a very sweet man. He made me feel as I have been his patient for years. What really impressed me is the care Dr. Schroder shows for patients. There was something questionable on my X-ray. After confirming that it was nothing that required immediate care, he suggested to go back in 6 months to see if any dental work was medically needed on the spot. The past dentists I have gone to would have pounced on the chance to do major dental work that might not be medically necessary. I highly recommend Dr. Schroder and his team. Having tried four other dentists in my five years here in SA, my search is finally done! Dr. Schroder was first recommended to me by another local dentist, as the one he would use if he ever needed work. I've been seeing him for over a year now. Office staff is courteous and they do a great job of sending reminders and following up. Appointments start on time and the hygienists have been great - they do quick work with minimal discomfort. As for the doc himself, the pride he takes in his work and how he constantly strives for improvement are two of the traits I appreciate most, along with the fact that he communicates well, knows his stuff, and takes his time. He took the time to understand my priorities at my first appointment and everything he has done since has been consistent with those. I was impressed with this dental practice from my first call for an appointment. After a bad experience at a previous dentist I was extremely reluctant to see another dentist and didn't for over 10 years. I was "forced" to face my fear and anxiety when I started having tooth pain. I found Dr. Shroder's office and consider myself lucky that I did. I am VERY pleased with my experience. I am very pleased with the level of care, consideration, and attention to patient preference that I receive there. The office is inviting and comfortable, and they put their best foot forward with their friendly and helpful front office administrators. I have been a patient of Dr. Schroeder's for over 15 years! I keep coming back because he treats everything from simple fillings to implants and over the years he has established and built a trusting relationship. As a nurse I am aware that his office is impeccably clean and he uses clean and/or sterile techniques. In emergencies I am always seen on a timely basis. After complicated procedures either Dr. Schroeder himself or a staff member follows up with me within 24 hours.
