This restaurant is located within the Hyatt resort. While they are known for their steaks and seafood I did opt for a braised short rib, which was delicious. It melted in the mouth and came apart so easily when going in for another bite. The potatoes were garlic roasted and were also good but didn't have anything that made them stand out. The service was great. I went right when they opened and was able to get seated with the perfect view. My waitress was so kind and went through the menu briefly on the top dishes as well as the ones she would recommend, if not interested in steak or seafood. The truffle fries were fresh and hot and had the perfect crunch. I was obsessed with them. They also give complimentary bread, if you're not interested in having an appetizer. I also got a mango drink which was good and strong, if that's how you like it. For me it was a little too strong but worth the price to make me feel good after drinking it. From the moment we pulled up, the service was seamless--the Complimentary Valet Parking is such a massive plus and started the night on a high note. We're lucky to see Maui's beauty every day, but dining at Son'z, with its incredible view and dreamy atmosphere, really makes us feel like we're living our dream vacation. It's easily one of the most romantic and stunning spots on the island. The highlight of the evening, though, was the hospitality. I was so stoked to run into Maranda at the hostess station--it had been a hot minute and it was so lovely to see a familiar face! The staff truly went above and beyond to make my dad feel celebrated, even bringing out a special birthday dessert (that looked almost too good to eat!) to cap off the night. And the food was absolutely incredible. We started with the Blackened Ahi (that Sake-Mustard Beurre Blanc is everything!) and the Pork & Vegetable Dumplings. For the mains, the Wagyu New York Strip was cooked to perfection, but the 32 oz Tomahawk Rib Eye was the real showstopper--especially paired with the Brandy-Peppercorn and Chimichurri. Can't get that at any of the restaurants in mainland USA. Our table was on water's edge and had beautiful swans swimming around at night. The waterfall added to the dramatic scenery as well. The food was ridiculously good. She chose Son'z because I love a good Ribeye, however, I guess my lunch was heavier than I thought because it stuck with me for 6 hours and I had to eat light :(. That said, I chose the grilled lobster tail and she went with the shortrib Ragu. My lobster tail ranked right up there with Nobu's and that's without me having an appetite. She loved her shortrib Ragu and after I tasted it, I agree 100%! Our server Caselyn was delightful and does her job with ease. The manager checked on us at least three times as he did with all of the tables, making sure his patron's experience was nothing short of amazing. If you're ever lucky enough to be treated to a trip to Maui like I was or you have to do what most folks do and pay for it yourself.. WOW and PHENOMENAL. This was such an incredible place to dine at. We sat along the water and I felt like we had the best view in the house. The place is absolutely gorgeous. The staff was equally friendly and helpful and also personable which I loved. Our server was truly incredible with navigating my daughter's many allergies, and took so much care in speaking with the chef to also avoid any cross contamination down to the type of oil used in their fryer. I appreciate that level of care and professionalism so much. I started with a couple of non-alcoholic drinks and they were tasty, sweet and refreshing. I had the escargot as an appetizer. As someone who hates clams, muscles-- anything of the sort I was worried about not liking it after my husband told me to expect it to taste like that. THE ESCARGOT IS DELICIOUS. It's like the most balanced butter, herb flavor alongside a mushroom like taste and texture. I wish I would have ordered a second round to devour alone. We even got more butter brought to our table unprompted for our rolls they must know how enjoyable it is. Bacon Mac and cheese was wonderful, Smokey and cheesy. And you know what? The portions were actually very filling none of us could finish our entres. Wagyu steak was cooked to perfection the way my husband likes it. My food was also nothing short of incredible with the short rib tasting heavenly. Whenever we go out here in Hawaii we always brace for being disappointed in either the service or the food quality. Kaycelin (and I know I misspelled that) was our server and what an amazing surprise. Everything was perfect, from the pace to the attention to detail. I had this restaurant for the first night of my Maui trip to celebrate a special occasion. We booked a 5pm reservation specifically requesting the swan view seating, and showed up at 4:30 to make sure it happened. The hostess assured us we'd be taken care of and suggested we grab drinks at the bar while we waited. Halfway through those drinks, she came back to say our table was ready -- then walked us to a corner of the restaurant with zero view of the water, direct sun in our faces, and flies circling the table the entire time. Not the table we requested, not the table we were promised. We decided not to make a scene and stayed put, hoping the food would turn things around. It did the opposite. Our server never asked how we wanted the tomahawk cooked, and what arrived was the single worst-cooked steak I've ever had the displeasure of chewing through. The mac and cheese was somehow worse than a box of Kraft made by your drunk college roommate at 2am. For the prices here, that is genuinely hard to accomplish. Then came the bill: $800, for food we did not order. When I raised it, the server told me that was my bill and to just sign it. No itemized review, no explanation, no interest in checking. Beautiful location, and Maui has incredible seafood a short walk in any direction. Go find some. This was the worst dining experience I've had, and I'd tell anyone considering a special-occasion dinner here to spend it literally anywhere else. Restaurant is located in the Hyatt hotel and you can get seats with a view of a little pond with swans. We had reservations for 7:30pm and didn't get seated until 8pm. The vibes were off starting from check in when the host seemed very inexperienced and didn't save tables for reservations. He asked me like 5 times what my name was. When we finally got seated almost 30 minutes later, they put us in the very back corner of the restaurant where we were seated surrounded by empty dirty tables. There was a table near the front where the water was available and we asked our waitress if we could sit there and she said that she would have to check with management since they prioritize who gets what seats and it's typically for those with reservations. Well... we had reservations and somehow were seated 30 minutes later stuck in the back with the dirty tables?? Others who came after us were seated at better tables and didn't have to wait for their tables too... strange... Our waitress made it seemed like they were scared to ask management about it and tried their best to clean up some other tables to get us one table closer to the view. She was honestly very friendly and it seemed like she was trying her best but the wait and table situation kind of soured our night. Food was alright. Server brought over simple syrup, one shot glass of it, even though we asked if she could bring a lot, since at this point we where trying to salvage the drink as we could, one shot glass worth of simple syrup clearly wasn't enough. Our server ended up not charging us for the drinks which was a nice gesture, however the service was slow, the restaurant was not full by any means, therefore the service being slow wasn't necessarily justified. For the price point, and reviews we read prior, we had a lot of excitement and expectation, which was simply not met. They also changed their menu, which was frustrating since the menu online is not the same as the one in the restaurant, website needs to be updated. There was a pretty big storm with high winds so instead of venturing outside the hotel we decided to stay within the grounds and order in. I ordered take out and ordered a filet mignon and loaded baked potato. Ordering was easy and the staff was really nice. They gave me a steak knife to use since the usual takeout "silverware" is plastic. I ordered the filet medium rare and they cooked it perfectly.
