IMHO Pailolo is located on our resort property, so very convenient! We enjoyed our first "dinner" of our current visit during their Happy Hour. You can't beat the ambiance at Pailolo. You are right next to the beach amidst swaying palm trees and sometimes enjoying live music. Ahhhhhh. No one was at the host desk, so we planted ourselves at a table. It took a little while to wave a server down to help us, but we were on vacation and chilled. Eventually we chose some delicious cocktails, coconut shrimp, and seasoned fries. My hubby and I had decided that we would try to share most of our Maui meals to save money and not waste food. It worked pretty well for us. I highly recommend it! The service (once we received it) was friendly, and the food was yummy, and just enough! Of course, we'll return!

It's been about 10 years coming to Kaanapali. We stopped at Pailolo for lunch. The prices sure have increased over the years. In 2015 the prices of a drink of the day was $6. Now it's $17. But the food is very solid. The drinks are good. They open at 11 and were instantly busy. There were lines of people getting drinks at the bar. It felt a bit understaffed and it took a while for our server to come over, but he was great. No complaints about food or service.

Why so many negative reviews? We're staying next door at the Westin Nanea. We couldn't get a seat at the bar n grill there so we walked over to the sister resort. The landmark is a food truck aptly named Pailolo. Come to realize later that's where the food is made. We spotted several empty tables from the boardwalk so we walked over and sat ourselves. We were soon greeted by a server who brought us water and menus. The three of us all ordered the fish n chips. Battered Ono. Cocktails - hubby had martini, I had a lava flow, and daughter had IPA. Our food came quickly. Small filets but very satisfying. Best battered fish we've had. After asking what's the coating we were told it's pancake batter. So onolicious. The fries were crispy and warm too. Pro tip: live entertainment on T-TH from 5:30p to 8:30pm. Last night (Tuesday) it was a solo guitarist. Both diners and non diners enjoyed the entertainment as the pool loungers are right there. Portion sizes are moderate. Just enough to ease any hunger pains.

View is amazing!!! Best sports bar in area! Our group enjoyed the NFL playoff games with many TV's. Our server Zarian was the best server I've had. Food was awesome!!! Will definitely go back. Ask for Zarian's section!!!

Nice ambience here at the Westin location where this restaurant is located. Had a nice table near the evening singer near the fire pit and enjoyed both the fresh fish burger, coconut shrimp and the music. The fish was cooked just right. The coconut shrimp was butterflied and battered because it was thin, it was overcooked and couldn't really taste the texture of the shrimp. The waitress was attentive and came by regularly to check on whether we needed anything or not.

The food was terrific. Atmosphere was fun and relaxing. Live music nearby on one of the evenings that we were there with local songs.

Standard place, exactly what you want and need at a pool bar restaurant. However, at nighttime they have the live music!

Our server was AMAZING because we had two individuals in our party that are the absolute pickiest eaters which I'm sure was overwhelming to the waitress. I mean incredibly picky. She handled it so well! She deserves the biggest tip just for that haha! We I got a pizza and a Caesar salad and they both were so yummy! My dad got the chicken sandwich and it looked amazing and he enjoyed it a lot! My mom got the shrimp Alfredo and it was also cooked to perfection! The price vs quality and quantity is way more expensive than it's worth. Place was a mess and no one cared. Food was disgusting, BBQ sauce was watered down ketchup, potatoes were burned pucks, bread was a slippa, "meatballs" taste like an old freezer smells. Freezer burned to heck. The place was a mess and chaotic, a bench for waiting under a projecting decoration so you had to lean forward and bend down to sit. Nothing redeemable about this place. Unfortunately the place we were staying recommended this slop. Waste of $200 for barely enough food for 2 when we had 4 people.

The meat was tender and divine. I'll never forget my first bite when my taste buds nestled onto the crispy exterior. I didn't just taste deliciousness; I tasted the craftsmanship, the love, the determination, the flames, the seasoning, the hands that put together...dare I say the greatest ribs of all time. I could have cried as all of my pain was healed in every bite.  The fish n chips were also incredibly good, a close second. The fish made me fall to my knees and thank life for putting me on this planet so I could eat this fish today. With traditional fish n chips, the crust carries the taste, but here at Captain Jack's it tasted like the fish was born with the flavor its molecules and genes seasoned with the magic that we had devoured. I guess everyone has a bad night now and then. Clearly our server was in that mode. Just sort of a dowered look on her face and no warmth or personal touch. The drop in food quality is the real problem. I had the grilled fish sandwich (last two times there) and was bummed at how over cooked it was. The time before I had to send it back because it was like a tennis shoe sole. I even asked that it not be over cooked when I first ordered. Yikes!!! Pizza sauce was very thick and tomato pasty (canned?) At least the crust was good. I'm a big fan of Merriman's, but this branch is not anything like the original Wailea restaurant. Somebody in management needs to wake up and get involved. Customers shouldn't be taken for granted. For now, go to Aloha Grill.

And the best rice with furikake, and then some pretty good macaroni salad? Only here as far as I know? Definitely not where I live in San Diego. The tuna was just as amazing as I remembered. It's easy to walk into the beach bar. And I liked the strawberry salad again, although the strawberries themselves were not that great. The salad is full of fat (nuts, goat cheese, and dressing), but the local lettuce is really good and overall it's a very tasty salad. And you can avoid the fat by getting the dressing on the side and eating around the goat cheese and not eating all the nuts. I was a little disappointed with my 1944 cocktail. It was definitely strong in alcohol content, but the flavor was super muted compared to last time. Decided to order the hula pie because we had a discount card giving us a free one with two entrees, which we had bought anyway. It's a hulking dessert that might be crowd pleasing with a table of kids. It's much too much for one or two people, and not that interesting. Upon check in, we were greeted immediately and notified our table would be ready shortly. After being seated our server (Dara) approached us and took our drinks and food orders promptly. I ordered a local draft beer, it came out warm and pretty flat. We did mention it to staff and they allowed me to select another beer off their menu, which was appreciated. The food... mid, I got the ribs and "huli huli chicken" (if you can even call it that). The chicken was not like any kind of huli huli chicken I've ever had, and should definitely be renamed on the menu. Chicken was a very dry piece of grilled chicken breast, with bbq sauce on top. I took 1 bite of it. The ribs were decent enough, nothing fancy, but not bad either. This place is definitely overpriced, for a slightly better price point I would recommend Monkey Pod, it's worth the wait.
