I want to give a HUGE shoutout to the Taverna Chef and staff as we ended up eating there 6 times during our 2 week stay in Kapalua. They were our favorite for that comfortable go-to place while we there. When on vacation in a resort like The Ritz, it's wonderful to find a place that you know you can drop into and have great food that isn't over the top at the end of a packed day. I can't honestly say enough about the quality of their food and freshness, and how much we are aligned with the chef's taste in cuisine. Their clams are off the charts so we had them many times. My personal go-to was the Melon Salad. Sometimes I just needed a light clean salad on a hot day and this one was absolutely perfect! We also had their Ono and Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi, and the Beet Salad, and other dishes that were just fantastic. We also really like their casual golf course ambiance. Yes they are pricey, but it's Maui and it's Kapalua and every dish was better than solid so we felt they were absolutely perfect! Thanks again all for wonderful meals every single time! read more

This is the restaurant in the golf club next to the Ritz. We were able to grab a last minute reservation for 4 (it's a large restaurant so I see why) and requested to be seated outside by the patio so the kids could run around, and oh, they did. The place is beautiful and modern, albeit loud inside. Also, I'd say it's not the most Hawaiian vibes, if you're going for that specific vibe. The food was really good. It was expensive, but to be expected. I went with the double fish entree and it escapes me what two fish, but it truly was delicious and maybe the best meal on my limited trip to Maui. The ube bread was dough and delicious smothered in their compounded butter. The cocktail was good. My kids ordered ice cream sandwiches, which we were told were small, but they were actually quite big, to the kids happiness. The service was slower, but the place was packed. I was really hoping the reviews I read were wrong, but unfortunately they were not. We arrived and water was ready on the table. We arrived in 2 separate groups. We were a party of 8. Our server came around and took drink orders right away, like we barely had time to look at the menu. I felt rushed. I think his name was Sean. I ended up with a Mai Tai, which I didn't really care for. It was different than other and had a spice (like cinnamon or something with some other spices) taste to it. We ordered a couple order of bread for the table. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, however our knives and appetizer plates were cleared before the bread was finished and knives were not replaced. Halfway through our server offered kids water cups to my 5 and 7 year old. We also had to ask what the fish or the day was then had to ask how it was prepared. Server was awkward and would randomly come over and hover. Food arrived and everyone seemed happy with their meals. I ordered the shrimp & scallops and like other reviewers said, it was very bland, shrimp was over cooked but my scallops were perfectly cooked. We ordered desserts to split amongst us. Cheesecake was my favorite, lava cake was disappointing and our kids enjoyed their cookie ice cream sandwich. They had those drawing tablets for the kids to draw on while at dinner and I think that is genius! There was a 22% fee for a large party (again, 8 of us) on top of their 4% "convenience fee" It's an open air restaurant and there was no breeze. I picked this spot since we have never been here and it looked like a good places from some of the reviews. I made reservations and it was dinner time on Valentine's day. It was busy at the bar but not to bad for the main dinning. I checked in and we were seated right away. The girl asked us to follow her to our seats seemed to be looking at the open tables and decided to put us in the middle of the room at a 4 person table. I saw that the entire section with booths was empty. I asked her if we could get a booth and she said "well those are for booked people." uhm I booked a reservation. She waited a second and walked back to the reception desk. Soon she came back and sat us at a booth which was a table for 2. So weird. Our server was really nice and laid back. He knelt down and told us the specials. SO as far as service it was very good. My wife wasn't very hungry so she was looking for a small dish. She got the Caesar salad and it was good. She also got the Parmesan Risotto. It was actually a side dish. When it came out it was tomato based and didn't have any parmesan on it. I asked the server and he said it was infused with lobster sauce. which wasn't want she wanted. He asked to take it away but my wife said no and didn't want to bother with it. I really think it was the risotto that was connected to a special dish and not the side. I started out with the steamed clams. They were good flavor and I liked the sauce with it but some of the clams didn't open which is bad. they were a nice size to. Next was the pork chop wrapped in bacon. It was cooked and tasted ok. I just expected more from this place. The server came back and was apologizing about my wife's risotto and offered to take care of the dessert . So we got the chocolate lava cake. Had such a great experience at Taverna. Service was very friendly and quick, our food came out within 15 minutes of ordering, which made the whole experience feel smooth and relaxed. Started with the Kapalua Sunset cocktail, a crisp sparkling wine that was light and refreshing, perfect for a casual sip. The Beet 21 Salad was beautifully done. I loved the addition of mac nuts for that extra crunch, and the goat cheese paired so well with the beets and fresh peaches. The combination of sweet, creamy, and nutty flavors made it feel really well balanced. The Truffle Mushroom Pizza was rich and full of umami, with creamy mushrooms and fresh arugula on top to brighten everything up. The view also makes this place special with spectacular scenery overlooking the golf course, especially around sunset. Great food, quick service, and an unbeatable ambiance. A couple of years have passed and we returned. A totally different experience. Parking was Valet only and that made parking easy with no hills to walk up. We arrived with no reservation and we sat at the bar and were immediately greeted and water delivered along with menus. It is an upscale dignified setting. The menu is completely different and the Italian dishes are gone with a more seafood and steak emphasis. Our drink orders were taken and delivered quickly by a friendly bartender. We later ordered Macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi and the Ahi Steak. Excellent flavor and texture. The best meals in Maui this trip. The food was delivered in a timely manner. The only negative is the 4%"Service Charge" that is apparently for the kitchen. I believe the restaurant should pay the employees, not me. Taverna on kapalua golf course is lovely restaurant with that country club feel. Think wood grain floors, walls, tables and polo shirts. They have a full cellar, clever bar concoctions along with the classics and good service, from the hostesses, waiters and bar tenders. The food is fresh and local, a bit of an Italian lean on their predominantly local fare. They advertise using local fish caught by local fisherman. The ahi tuna was fresh, the sides were tasty, and nothing was done to ruin the excellent cut of fish. The Onaga or red snapper was the fish of the day and it was perfectly pan fried, tasty and simple with a side of steamed vegetables and rice. We enjoyed the vibe, the service and food. Pricey--not surprisingly so given the location--but not unaffordable for a lovely date night. read more

We walked over to Taverna from the Ritz-Carlton and were immediately impressed by the beautiful setting overlooking the golf range. Highly recommend sitting outside for happy hour or dinner to take in the view. The food did not disappoint--our table had the ahi steak, meat pizza, and filet mignon, all of which were delicious and well-prepared. The ambiance was relaxed yet upscale, making it a perfect spot for a great meal. If you're a wine lover like us, bring your favorite bottle! The corkage fee is $35, which is reasonable for the area and well worth it to enjoy a special wine with your meal. The only reason I'd give a 3.5 is the service. Younger staff that was a bit green and slow. I think this is an area of improvement that could be easily enhanced. read more

Our second and final dinner at Taverna was less than charming. What was good: -a pleasant and responsive server; -a nice table not rendered uncomfortable by hi-speed fans overhead; -a reasonably tasty beet salad; -a decent wine list. What was poor: -seriously overpriced and truly mediocre food; -very unpleasant pressure on our sides from poorly designed steel chair arm-brackets; -flavorless iced tea; -somewhat overcooked lukewarm scampi atop very hot pasta; -several very loud screaming young children at different times during our visit remained uncontrolled, and staff made no attempt to ask the parents to stop the disturbance for the many other guests. Second time here. Last time was 5 stars in Dec 2024. Why only 3 now? Because of a very disappointing surprise on the bill. Food and service were okay. But the bill held a 4% surcharge! What?!? I asked the manager. He said it was for "kitchen staff" and that it was an "industry standard for several years." We eat out often enough that if a surcharge was an industry standard for several years, I would have encountered it before tonight. Never seen before. Frankly, I feel ripped off. We really enjoyed our dining experience at Taverna. Alejandro was a great server, and made us feel welcome. We dined at sunset and were seated outside with a great view. The beet salad was phenomenal and I loved that the ingredients were sourced locally. The taro rolls were a treat. My main course was the lasagna. Good portion size. Beer selection was good. My only real nit - it was expensive for what we had. Especially the shrimp cocktail - only 4 shrimp for $24. There should have been at least 6 (or more). Taverna is an absolute standout and I cannot recommend it enough. If you are staying at the nearby Ritz-Carlton, it is an easy and pleasant walk. Booking was a breeze via OpenTable, and the service from start to finish was exceptional. We visited to celebrate our anniversary, and the staff went above and beyond, greeting us with complimentary glasses of champagne to kick off the night. They were also incredibly accommodating when we asked to move tables; we originally wanted to sit outside, but the wind became a bit much, and they transitioned us indoors without any hesitation. As for the food--wow. We tried the fish prepared three different ways, and each dish was somehow better than the last. Same goes for the spaghetti carbonara, under seasoned, short on sauce and just okay. Saw an osso buco go by that looked great but hard to justify at over $60. Their steak special was $78 Now the good part. Service is nice and ambience is lovely. We so enjoyed sitting around a small table where we could laugh, tell stories and just be family. We sat outside on patio and what a fantastic view. Dessert was a step up from dinner. House made Tiramisu was a hit with our birthday girl and the fresh strawberry gelato was really tart and delicious. My sister loved the espresso martini and the selection of wine was nice. I think that with a little common sense and some tweaking of the menu, this place could be a standout. Kind of weird that it's next door to the pour house, another upscale Italian joint (on same ritz Carlton property). This place used to be one of the best Italian restaurants on the island. They don't have Italian food anymore, but kept the same name. I guess they didn't think we'd notice. They've turned it into another spot where you can get a small piece of fish for $50-$60. The good news is that if you went there looking for Italian food, you can walk about a block down Office Rd toward the Ritz to the Pour House and they do a really good job and make a great lasagna, which is what taverna used to be known for. read more

Coconut shrimp and macadamia nut mahi mahi are what you should expect to find... boringgggggg. I ordered the macadamia nut mahi mahi with seasonal vegetables because there was nothing else to eat. We recently came here for dinner for a family gathering. Things sure have changed since our last visit. We had numerous reservations for our group and I called in to ensure the other parties in our group and us were seated close by. I did get a confirmation that they would help try to accomodate but the day of our reservations they had all of the other parties sitting together except for us, the one that called it in. Anyways after a bit they sat us all together which was fine. Since we had many families we asked if we could get separate checks. We were seated in long rows and had two different waiters. Steve our waiter said yes but the waiter in the other side said no. Eventually Steve came back and said management said no. ???? Anyways I was looking for lasagna and their pizza that was cooked outside. We'll to find out they don't make lasagna and they use the leftovers on other days to make it at times and their pizza is cooked differently now not on the outside grill. We went with the two recommendations - gnocchi dish and there was a linguini seafood dish. The linguini seafood dish was good, the portion of the dish was on the small side. The gnocchi dish was too salty. Everyone on my table didn't like it since it was too salty. I let Steve know but pretty much not much was done about it on our check. The kids ordered their pasta dishes and they didn't eat it or finish it as well. They said it tasted funny different and my kid who loves cheese pizza didn't like her cheese pizza as well. I went and tasted the pizza and yep it was not good. I was disappointed in our food quality and service. Would I come again? We will see, but the other good things I would have to say was Steve was very customer service friendly and the linguini seafood entree was good. read more

Taverna is located in the heart of Kapalua with a beautiful view of the green hills. Ambiance is great, with tables spread out and bar area when you first walk in. We were immediately seated upon arrival. Server was great and responsive. The dishes were amazing! Portions was perfect, not too much and not too little, and reasonably priced. My favorite dish was the beet salad, it was the best salad I've had and it was so colorful! My linguine with clams was delicious, not too salty and perfect amount of sauce!
