I cannot say enough wonderful things about Sophia's Place. The food, of course, is exceptional. This was the first stuffed cabbage I'd had in years, and it was better than what mom used to make. There is something they put in that sauce that makes is delectable, and servings were huge! The pierogis and kraut and kielbasa also were out of this world. So reminiscent of what my Polish family made. What makes Sophia's exceptional to me, though: I ordered a bunch of of food for my family in Baltimore; we had a death in the family and people were coming from all over the country for the funeral. I thought some good ol' Polish comfort food would be good for everyone. Not only was the food phenomenal, Tom the owner and his staff took exceptional care of me and my family. Tom delivered the food himself, ran back with something he forgot and stayed and talked to my family for a bit. They said how great he was and they enjoyed meeting him, and several want to order from Sophia's Place and have the food shipped. I HIGHLY recommend Sophia's Place and will make a point of going back there next time I'm in Baltimore. You should too! read more

Sophia's Place is located by one end of Broadway Market, just past the bathrooms. Their plain cheesecake looked lovely and large. $5.95 for perhaps an eighth of a cheesecake with a graham cracker crust. It was really good! Smooth and creamy in a soft kind of way. Much better than the one we had earlier the same week at Katz's Deli in NYC. read more

It took a me a while to make this review. And I almost forgot to take a photo because this soup is so good I was already halfway through my bowl. I went to Broadway Martket place with one of my friends a few months ago just checking out what shops/restaurants they had in there and we happened to come across Sofia's place. The new owner was so nice and informative about their menu and offerings. Had we not just had lunch at Ekiben I would've tried a full menu item but I was curious about the Red Borscht. I'd never had it but I've heard good things about it so I tried a cup. I really enjoyed the flavor so I purchased a quart to take home and freeze. Fast forward to today, I finally defrosted it and warmed myself up a bowl. I added a little salt & pepper and a healthy dollop of sour cream. It was perfection. I look forward to returning to Sofia's explore more of their menu and purchase more goods to take home. I highly recommend. read more

The pierogi at this place are fantastic and exactly how they should be made! Served with caramelized onions and brown butter, generously filled, and flavorful. The service is definitely gruff but they take care of you! They have Polish grocery staples as well as frozen soup and pierogi you can purchase. I'm dying to go back and try their dessert case, which hooked like a dream! This was the cozy comfort food I've been dreaming of, and it was such an unexpected find near the plant shop at the back of this food hall. I'll be back soon for sure! We had a great experience with Tom at Sophia's Place and the food was excellent. We ordered trays that included Pierogi, Golabki, Sausage, and Sauerkraut. Our family has a heavy Slavic background and everyone commented on how this food reminded us of our grandparents, aunts, and relatives. Tom prepared and delivered 7 trays on-time, fresh, and hot. Overall, I think Sophia's is a cute Polish spot. My bf is Polish so we have been here twice. The first time was very good when we tried a few items like bagels and pierogies and Polish soda! I accidentally stumbled into Heaven. We were on our way to find lunch and some ice cream at Takahara Brothers. We wandered into the Broadway Market and straight into the flavors of my childhood. You know how people with Italian heritage always say nothing measures up to their Nonna's or mother's gravy? I grew up with a Bushie. She kindly assaulted people with food. When I was younger, I couldn't imagine that this would ever stop. But, as she grew older, it did. Sometimes I think she did it out of spite. No one could make stuffed cabbage rolls like hers. They weren't traditional, much like everything she did and said. To this day, I don't really know what was authentically Polish, passed down from her family, and what she just made up to appeal to her American granddaughters. I'm pretty sure that the filling in her cabbage rolls was all meat. And she served them with potatoes boiled in some sort of thin red, vaguely tomato sauce. ALWAYS in her white Corningware dish, with the blue flowers. I'll never find a cabbage roll like hers, but I will kindly accept all contenders. Which lead me to attending the Polish festival at Holy Rosary - which is where my Bushie was married, btw. She and my grandfather supposedly lived on Chester street, and walked to the church with their wedding party, kind of like a parade. Time machine take me there. It must have been an amazing wedding. Someone spilled punch on her wedding dress at the reception, and she STILL mailed it off to some niece, back in Poland, for her to use. Anyway, it was at the Polish Festival that I discovered my love of pierogi stuffed with farmers cheese. There's a sweetness to the cheese that is so addictive. So I was delighted to find them for sale at Sophia's!! I haven't had the chance to eat them yet, but I am already planning to return to Sophia's when I have more money, because I need to SERIOUSLY shop. I was so thrilled by the selection of pierogi that I completely forgot to get a cabbage roll, or even to fully peruse the other shelves of Polish delights. Would recommend. Would also totally recommend the Polish Festival, which usually happens the second week in September. read more

After wandering around Broadway Market, I was thrilled to happen upon Sophia's place. It's a fairly big stall, with racks of Polish dry goods and candies, along with freezers full of pierogi and items to take home. There is a deli and you can order read-to-eat Polish goodies. They also sell bakery items, like homemade cheesecake and paczki. I haven't seen kruschicki in years, and it's my favorite, so I picked up some of those and enjoyed them. I also got the potato and cheese pierogi, which were freshly pan-fried and delicious. I feel bad that I never liked my mother's golabki, but I'd try it here on a return visit. I chatted with Thomas, the owner, for a bit. He's friendly and has a prestigious culinary background. He really wants to carry forward the culture, which is amazing. Insanely good Polish food and best of anything I ate in Baltimore all week! I was in town to visit my son and randomly sat next to a patron at a nearby pub to watch World Cup one afternoon. It was Chef Tom, who went on about the quality of his place and so I tried it. Best move ever. Food was simply outstanding. I tried a platter of stuffed cabbage, sauerkraut, and potato-cheese pierogi, and sausage with sauerkraut. Best Polish cuisine I've ever had (even better than a well-regarded restaurant in Montreal that I loved). Sauces and flavor profiles were unreal, as were quality of meats. So much flavor, unlike any other Eastern European cuisine I've ever had (and I'm of E. European descent). I'd say it's upscale/gourmet spin. Soups that I sampled, too, out-of-this-world good. Sophia's Place is in a downtown market and so it's not quite a sit-down restaurant; it has a few tables allocated to its patrons but is more or less a takeout/food court sorta facility. That said, I stocked up on some frozen soups and food to bring home. Will circle back and review those later, but I anticipate another 5-star response and experience. Tom super-friendly, too, explaining ingredients, processes, etc. Will go back for sure when back in Baltimore. A must-try. read more

Depending on which end you enter the Broadway Market, you might miss Sophia's. A small European Deli that has a variety of Polish/European dishes. I've visited a couple of times now- both late morning (around 11) and pretty quite. Would imagine they get busy around lunch. They have daily specials-sandwich/Combos. Ordered the Sobieski's feast, 1/2 dozen Pierogi (Sauerkraut/Mushroom) and Panini of the Day (Corned Beef). The feast was substantial and a good one for sharing. Cabbage Roll, Pierogis and Sausage -all excellent and pure comfort. Potato/ Cheese Pierogis were our favorite but the Sauerkraut/Mushroom ones were a surprise hit. Corned Beef Panini was also tasty with Cheddar cheese vs the usual Swiss. Plenty of dessert options. Can't go wrong with their Polish Donut (plum filling takes it over the top!) & their Hamantasch is some of the best I've had-Raspberry, Apricot and Poppy Seed. Service was excellent! Engaged ladies (including the owner) who are smiling, helpful and delivering some scratch made goodness! They had a freezer full of multiple Pierogi varieties for home prep. Stopped by today on my way home from John's Hopkins. Friendly service. I was offered samples of their amazing soups- I highly recommend the split pea Keilbasa soup and the carrot turmeric ginger soup. Both were amazing. I also picked up Bigos, a Keilbasa and bean , loads of pierogi, kruschiki, Kremówka, and some of my favorite Polish candies. I've missed many of these treats over the years and will be back to get more soon! read more
