This is the sandwich shop you've been looking for. The bread is soft and chewy and feels like it just came out of a pizza oven. The meat to cheese to topping ratio is perfect, keeping the sandwich moist and complex while still letting you experience everything you're eating. The Italian cold cut was a great balance of fatty and salty Italian meats cut by hots, a little lettuce and tomato, and oil and vinegar. It felt considerably lighter to eat than it actually was. The Gandalfini was also perfectly balanced with roast beef, caramelized onions, and fontina. This is my new favorite place to pick up lunch. Be aware that this is strictly a take out place. Fantastic little place. Buddy of mine were in the area searching for food. This popped up in Yelp. Small row house in what appears to be a pretty nice part of town, an area with a lot of new stores and restaurants. No indoor seating, and only 3-4 chairs on their porch. Walk up to the window, order, wait, and then either leave and eat elsewhere or sit in a seat and watch cars go by. We ordered the Apollonia and Scooch. They are both great. We got them freshly-made, nice and warm, in just a few minutes. Highly recommended when you're in this part of town. Just be sure that you have somewhere to eat if their seats are full. read more

I fell in love with this place years ago. A former employer used to order lunches from Luigis a few times a month. The sandwiches are huge, definitely large enough to be shared. I called my order in and it was ready within 15 minutes. I miss being able to dine-in at Luigis but I'm happy to see they are thriving through these difficult times. I usually get the meatball chub or the Gabriella sandwich, but I decided to try something different today. The meatball chub and the Gabriella are both served hot and never disappoint. I tried the Nero sandwich and it was great. It's also a good hot sandwich that consists of buffalo-style chicken, chorizo, fontina cheese, roasted red pepper, hot sauce and field greens. It was absolutely delicious. The bread was so soft and the flavors of the toppings blended well. Next time, I'll probably ask for more hot sauce because it didn't have much of a spicy kick at all. Haven't been back here for far too long! After some confusion about where to order (the first window) and what to order, I was set. Two other customers had trouble figuring out which floor (it's upstairs) Luigi's is located. Initially, there was a difference of opinion when I asked whether they had an eggplant parm sandwich and the server said they didn't--but actually the Leonardo has eggplant along with zucchini, pepper, onion and cheese on excellent bread. Potato-potahto. (My philosophy: Don't day "Yes, but..." say "Yes, and...") But it all turned out well! The Leonardo Sandwich was great as well as the Caesar Salad with chicken. I plan to come back and try other salads and hot as well as cold sandwiches or subs. They only have takeout, no sit-down. Made it out to Hampden to try Luigi's but missed them the 1st time as they actually closed at 3 pm. As of this writing, they are open 11 am-3pm daily (or "sell out"). Only takeout/delivery available for now. I'm sure it was a charming spot when they had dine-in but for now it's a pickup window. They had an ample selection of hot/cold sandwiches & had a hard time deciding as all looked good. We settled on the The Scooch (most popular (according to their website), Leonardo & La Porchetta. Perfect balance of roll to meat/veggies on all 3. The surprise star was the Leonardo. The thicker cut marinated roasted eggplant stood out with the squash, mozzarella, pesto & balsamic balancing it out. One of the best Italian veggie sandwiches I've had! The Scooch (roasted peppers and hots took it over the top!) and Porchetta also didn't disappoint. We also tried the Pepperoni roll which was ok-stuffed with an abundant amount of pepperoni with tomato sauce. Overall, this is the Spot in Hampden for some proper Italian sandwiches. This is my third and finial time here the owner, this older lady, is very rude and obnoxious my first time here. I called in my order with the the young lady and asked for extra Mayo on my cold cut and the sub was great, the next time I called in my order I got two subs and asked for the same thing extra Mayo and the older lady the owner took my order, when I got home there was no Mayo on my sub I was very disappointed because it was a very dry sub. I called to express my concerns and the young lady apologized. A few moments later I got a call from the owner saying I didn't ask for extra Mayo and it made me a lil frustrated because I ask for the same thing every time and for her to call me back and say that was just unprofessional. This is a great place to get food. That have a take away window as well, for wanting to take food home. I'd definitely. recommend to people.

My boyfriend wanted to get the meatball sub and said it was large enough for us to share. He was right! We walked up to the window and placed our order; within just a few short minutes our food was ready. While we waited, at least 2 other call ahead orders were picked up - and this was at 12:15 on a Tuesday while the rest of the Avenue was pretty empty. I was in Hampden one day and was walking around looking for food places to try. I love subs/sandwiches and Italian cold cut is one of my favorites. I saw Luigi's Italian Deli on yelp and decided to check it out. All I can say is that I'm a little disappointed. It was fairly busy when I went and took about 10-15 minutes for me to get my food. I ordered a Italian cold cut which was about $9.50 plus tax. $10 for 1 sub is a little too much in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, the cold cut was bad but it wasn't amazing either. The deli meat was delicious and by far the best part of the sub. The bread was a little too hard and brought he sub down for me. As I said before, just a little disappointed in it. Was so hoping that I would find another great Italian deli in Baltimore. Unfortunately, this was not it. Thought from some of the reviews that it might be worth the drive. I ordered a couple sandwiches to try: *Italian Cold Cut (1/2 sandwich) - it was ok, but a little small and the filling to bread ratio was a little off. Could have used a couple more slices of meat and/or cheese. Also, there wasn't much flavor. *Porchetta (1/2 sandwich) - BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! I love Porchetta and was so looking forward to a great sandwich...it was far from great. Literally, one thin slice of pork and 3 tomato slices (see photo below). Did they forget to add something? I was shocked and would be embarrassed to serve this to anyone. And it was $5.50. I honestly took one small bite and threw it away. I won't be back. Di Pasquale's Italian Deli/Market is so much better. Fresh baked bread and and you get full sandwiches with plenty of meat, cheese and flavor. This is a good spot for yuppies. The bread is very good But being from south Philly. The actual sandwiches are average at best. Depasquales in Baltimore crushes this place. I'm a full Italiano. My coworkers and I go to Luigi's for lunch occasionally and are usually satisfied with our orders. Although the prices may seem a bit high, you really get a lot more food than your average chain discount sub shop. I've tried a few of the subs, but don't have a clear favorite at the moment as they're all pretty comparable. How does that even happen?! After reading all the rave reviews about the meatball sub, I picked one up for my boyfriend on his birthday. So i had bookmarked this place to try sometime back, i decided to give it a go.. Meh i have had way better. Anyhow, i ordered two sandwiches the sausage roll and the nero. The sausage roll was pretty good, and the bread and the cheese complemented it well. The Nero on the other hand was ok, nothing much by way of a sandwich that is almost a hair short of $10. For one it was sloppily done, secondly i couldnt taste any chorizo if any, the chicken was on the drier side, the bread once again was a redemption. I didnt even finish it since it was a lost cause. They have my favorite Italian Sub in Baltimore (though I personally like to add balsamic to it). The meats are cut perfectly thin, the bread is fantastic, and I love that they use hots. We've visited a few times to get their consistent sandwiches to go, and while they're not perfect or a destination place for us, they're definitely decent. I usually stick to the caprese, which always needs a bit of salt and pepper but does have good fresh tomato and the right ratio of tomato to basil to mozzarella. (Marked down on flavor a little because of how much better Atwater's tastes because of their pesto and good olive oil; and Stonemill's bread has more flavor.) D gets their Italian cold cut with the usual few modifications, and definitely appreciates that the meat is always freshly cut and the dressing is good. Pro-tip - if you're doing to go and not having it immediately, ask for the dressing/sauce on the side and they'll very happily give you side containers so the bread doesn't get soggy. read more
