I was really excited to try Blue Pit BBQ after seeing it named Maryland's 2026 Best BBQ Joint, but my experience was super disappointing. Service was friendly and welcoming upon walk-in, but that was the best part of our experience. The food sadly did not match the reputation. EVERYTHING came out lukewarm, the brisket was overcooked and dry, cornbread was burnt and hard, greens had no seasoning, and the baked beans were overwhelmingly vinegary. The bratwurst was underwhelming with no real snap, and even the B-side drink was way too sour. The mac & cheese and coffee BBQ sauce were the only good items of our entire meal. I really hope the kitchen staff was having an uncommon off-day, because this visit didn't reflect the recognition at all. Our meal was a compete letdown, so I hope they improve for future diners soon. PS - There is an upstairs and a downstairs, but if you sit upstairs, you have to order your food downstairs - they do bring the food up to you though. read more

Stopped in for dinner Friday night with my daughter. For as popular as I read they are and for supposedly having some of the best BBQ in the area they were completely dead. Walked in and your in the bar area with about only 3 tables. Never being here before and not from the area we didn't know there was seating upstairs. You'd think since I had a kid with me we would have been told this. We split a two meat plate of ribs and brisket, with extra Mac & cheese. The meat comes with no sauce and they have sauce at the tables for you to add which is the best way to go. The ribs were fall off the bone and very good. The brisket on the other hand was a little on the dryer side and I needed a lot of the sauce to eat it. Speaking of the sauce the smoke sauce was delicious. The Mac & cheese is way over peppered, very cheesy and tasted good but too much pepper. The meal also came with pickles which were ok and the driest cornbread I've ever eaten. Definitely needed butter to spread on it. All and all it was just ok for us. We traveled from PA to try this place and it's just not for us. read more

It may seem like a bar first and a BBQ spot second because of the limited seating but let me tell you, the food here is not to be underestimated! Not only is the 2 meat combo a whopping serving (including 2 sides, fantastic cornbread, and pickles) but it's a great deal... and that brisket!! Nice selection of sauces at the table too. I had the Happy Hour house old fashioned as well and loved it. One thing to note is that you order up at the counter, as opposed to ordering with a server. But once that's done, the food comes out pretty quickly. You can also leave your tab open as you add on additional drinks while you dine. Everybody in our group enjoyed their orders. Would definitely go again! I have ordered delivery before but in-person was better. Started out with HH (until 7p) on a Friday night and enjoyed some spiced mules at the bar. There are some HH food options too. It was date night for me, so we ordered some plates and settled in upstairs which was quieter, chill, rustic and had cool pics of dogs. Great little spot in Hampden a few blocks from the Avenue and on the way to the light rail if you're planning on going to a game downtown. I'm a pescatarian so I haven't tried their BBQ meats (the friends I've brought have raved about their brisket) but they do have a vegan jackfruit sandwich that's solid and I love their Mac and cheese. I normally go to sit at the bar and enjoy their cocktails and whiskey selection which is one of the best near me. They have a great selection of some of those hard to acquire bourbons and quite a few exclusive barrel picks. We had a party here for approximately 30 people and the experience was positive and enjoyable. The owner was very prompt with her replies to my inquiries and very easy to work with. We were able to enjoy the second floor as the event was on a Thursday afternoon and each one of us would just buy our food individually without any sort of cover charge or extra charge for the use of space. It made for a very stress free and chill time. Food wise, I was able to try only 2 items, the Big Dawg and the brisket and I can say I thought they were good! Photos of the place are included in this review as it was the main reason we chose the place. Parking can be very tricky but it's to be expected as it is near the city. I'm a girl who loves her BBQ and Blue Pit always comes through when I'm looking for somewhere great yet chill to eat! The staff and environment is always so welcoming, helpful and attentive. I recently discovered their happy hour and I highly recommend it. They have specials on their sliders, beers and some signature cocktails. Now that the weather is warming up I also enjoy sitting out on their back patio which offers communal style dining. I love this style dining because it allows you to hopefully meet someone new. If communal style isn't for you they have great spaces indoors as well. Blue Pitt is child and pet friendly. I love how much they give back to the community with their support of BARCS. It's been a while since I've visited Blue Pit but I had a gift card and an empty fridge so the stars aligned for another visit. Since I now eat gluten free, my normal option of the pulled chicken sandwich wasn't going to cut it - they don't have GF rolls. I did appreciate that GF options were clearly marked on the menu though. I got the one meat platter with chicken thighs, potato salad, and Chesapeake pickleback slaw and extra pickles instead of cornbread. It came out to $20, pretty pricey for one person if you ask me. I placed the order by phone and the staff member was really friendly and double checked that all the sauces were gluten free (thank youuuu). The bag was HEAVY when I picked it up, a good sign. Turns out $20 was a reasonable price for the heaping serving size I received. Four large pieces of chicken and fair portions of the sides. The chicken was good but not as flavorful as the pulled chicken I'm used to getting on the sandwiches. I had plenty of sauce to make up for whatever was lacking in flavor though. Great food and excellent cocktails! We tried the brisket and chicken and both were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We also tried the potato salad, both coleslaws, and baked beans which all complemented the meats very well. The cocktails are a huge reason we will be back soon! Blue Pitt bbq is a no fuss, bbq and service forward bar. The bbq and rotating reasonably priced specialty cocktails are a personal favorite of mine. On this visit the signature mule was a smoked apple mule which was well balanced and unbeatable for $6 on HH (Mon-Fri 3-7p). The ambiance is always inviting and casual. The brisket is always tender and the bourbon glazed St. Louis ribs are juicy and had the right amount of smoky bark. Even though they have an array of sauces the sweet hot and homemade hot sauce are must try. The sides are a hit as well. The 4 cheese Mac and cheese and the loaded potato salad are my favorites. The collards with neck bones and sherry vinegar be hit or miss for me. I've had them 2/5 times and thought the vinegar was a little overpowering and made it taste off. I do not like the cornbread. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. Ive been here a few times now and the service and food has been consistently good. This is becoming one of my favorite bbq spots in Baltimore. It's not a large space inside but it's clean and comfortable. I can't wait to visit during warmer weather I was told they have outdoor seating open during that time. 9/10 highly recommend read more

We've eaten inside and outside on the patio, and while it was chilly the day we were there they provided some heaters to keep us warm. Came here the beginning of summer and been wanting to try this place. I love me some BBQ and this restaurant disappointed me so badly. The food was drive with no flavor or spice. The cocktail I ordered was watered down and had no taste at all. I didn't like anything that I ordered. Mac and cheese (nasty) taste like pasta water, pulled pork had no seasoning and was dry. The green had so much vinegar I got a sore in my mouth cause of it. Customer service was just OK. I suggest this place finds a new chef and revamp and start fresh with a whole new menu and better recipes. Cause this place won't last very long. read more

Thankful for a place where we can bring our pup along with us for a meal. Even though it was cold tonight they had propane heaters available for the backyard patio so we were there with some other folk who decided to bring their dogs along too. They provide water and maybe dog treats too(our pup didn't get any but that is ok since we brought some with us) Food was great, service super fast. Super plus point for thinking about vegan/vegetarian folks and having a jackfruit BBQ sandwich on the menu. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoyed my 2 meat platter which is def enough for leftovers (it comes with 3 chicken leg quarters if you order the chicken as one of the meats!). I enjoyed the coffee bbq sauce, to me it had hints of Tamarind in it don't know if I'm remotely right about that. This is my second time ordering from here on Yelp. My food was delivered to me and it was a little cold but that was probably not the restaurant's fault. I ordered the three meats. The ribs were just okay. Slightly dry but not the worst I've tasted. I did like the rub that it was seasoned with. The brisket was pretty good but could of had a little more flavor. The pulled pork was my favorite. So flavorful and juicy! I got the sweet and spicy sauce ( which I didn't too much care for. I should of got the Smokey sauce instead). But the pulled pork didn't even need any enhancements, it was just that good!! The beans were so good! I was pleasantly surprised. It's like beans and pulled pork together. I wish I ordered more because I loved it. So filling and packed with flavor. I'm glad I didn't listen to those reviews who said it wasn't good. Maybe they got a bad batch because it's absolutely delicious!!! I didn't eat the coleslaw. The smell was too pungent for me. PLEASE STOP SERVING THAT BLAND CORNBREAD!!! It's a waste of your time and ingredients! It has no flavor whatsoever!! The consistency isn't bad but it's tasteless. Came to. Blue Pit for a Yelp event between them and Baltimore Spirits. Got to sample their Brisket, Pulled Chicken, Baked Beans and Mac and Cheese. The staff was great and very helpful, and the food was equally as good. The Brisket was the best, actually was perfect without any additional sauce. The Pulled Chicken was juicy and tender, but needed some sauce to spice it up. They had 4 sauces available: Coffee, Mustard, Sweet Hot and Smoke. The Coffee was my favorite, and it went well with the chicken. The Mac and Cheese was nice and hearty, with a spicy finish sneaking up on you. The Baked Beans had a whole load of brisket mixed in and was also a top pick for me. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in Baltimore. read more

Had a nice little time at the bar having a happy hour drink. I was attending the Yelp event and arrived a hour early so decided to have a drink at the bar to kill time. Luckily happy hour was still going on. I decided to have an Old Fashioned since Blue Pit is known as a whiskey bar. Bar tender gave me a menu and kept my glass full of water. It wasn't very busy at the bar so he was pretty attentive. Since I only had a hour I didn't order any food. I would have gotten some fried but I did not see any on the menu. My Old Fashioned came out pretty fast. It was good but they used regular ice instead of a large whiskey cube so as a sipped on it it was diluted by the melting ice. I didn't make it to the outdoor patio area. I see that they are dog friendly and did see a few people going out to the patio with their 4 legged friends. Take your dog! Seriously... we were looking for somewhere we could hang out & grab a bite with our dog & I'm so happy we came upon this place. If you keep walking along the back they have picnic tables, some super cute paintings on the fence and a pretty chill environment. It had just finished raining so everything was a little wet but one of the employees found us cardboard to sit on which was super sweet. She also came out with some dog treats, fresh water for our dog and a really cute dog bandanna! We ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac & cheese. The food was really good and they have a nice selection of their own bbq sauces which was fun to try them out. The employee also asked if our dog would like a bratwurst and brought her one, which was really sweet. This was like doggy heaven for her! They have a good selection of beers and cocktails. Also, inside they have stickers, magnets, and pins that you can grab for free. Some outdoor seating in the back and space on the second level (they had an event so didn't see it). Semi busy on a Friday around 7. House Old Fashioned was excellent! We ordered a couple of plates. 2 Meats is the perfect size. Knowing TX Que I'm a tough customer. Legit Que! Brisket was tender (although didn't really taste the Zeke's coffee rub notes-no matter). Union Anthem Brat and Pulled Pork were smoked and seasoned perfectly! The sides were all excellent! Grubhub to the rescue again. My friend and I wanted ribs so we decided to give Blue Pit a try. I thought it was a bit pricey but realized it was just all the Grubhub fees driving up the cost. It was actually pretty reasonable considering everything we ordered. We got the ribs, a side of mac and cheese, a side of pickleback slaw, the loaded potato salad and cornbread. The ribs were good and since they was the main reason we ordered, we were pleased. They don't fall straight off the bone, which I didn't want anyway, but they're still tender and delicious. Our favorite side was the potato salad. It has a hint of smoke which gives it bbq flavor - yummy. The mac and cheese and cornbread were just okay. The slaw was also just ok but not as briny as I'd hoped. I didn't feel like it was a total waste because the most expensive item was enjoyable but I was a little disappointed with the sides. Delivery isn't usually as good as when you're served fresh in a restaurant so maybe we'll give them another go in person soon. read more
