I'm not exaggerating when I say I've tried hundreds of different Deli spots throughout the county and city and this deli has the Absolute BEST SEAFOOD SALAD SANDWICH I've had in Baltimore. Anyone who's attended Johns Hopkins is most certainly well-acquainted with "Uni Mini," and I was an undergrad at Hopkins look enough ago that I remember when they moved here from their old location...and it was a HUGE upgrade. The place is basically an institution at Hopkins, and you come here for one thing and one thing only: a little hoagie called the steak egg and cheese with 2 hashbrowns inside. Maybe I'm a little biased, but I have yet to find a hoagie anywhere that is as satisfying whether I'm sober or drunk. No joke, one of the main reasons that I'm tempted to attend the annual JHU Alumni Weekend is the prospect of being able to go to to Uni Mini for some steak egg and cheese, and there are seriously some days that I fantasize about hopping on a plane to Baltimore just to get myself one. read more

As a resident of this neighborhood, the story i have about my visit 2 days ago is very telling about the owners of this store. I came into the store to purchase snacks and a smoke. I choose some chips, they had a label of 3.99, which i was okay paying. When i got to the register, the cashier rung them up as 4.99. I pointed out the label, and he called another employee for them to check another item of the same type. That alone was cause for alarm but i stayed calm. When it was confirmed that i did not alter the price ( i come here all the time so not sure why i would) i let the cashier know that instead of my roughly 15 dollar purchase, i would only get the cookies i selected. At this point the cashier told me that the machine was down and i couldn't buy anything. There were several people in the store so i calmly asked "well if the machine is down, why are you only telling me?" They insisted the machine was down so i let someone in front of me, at which point they said "oh it's working again". I believe that reaction was rude, unprofessional and racially motivated. There are other options in the area where you can get better treatment and cost for the same material. Please avoid these people at all cost. read more

Through my 4 years at JHU, Uni Mini was probably one of the only places I was always in the mood for. Minus the one year where they tore down Uni Mini and Rofo to build Charles Commons. What a painful year... waiting ever so patiently for the new Uni Mini to open across the street. Uni Mini is basically the Hopkins experience. 24/7 convenient store with a grill (+ the giant drink you get with your hoagies). Countless memories coming back after long nights of studying/working in MSE or the Hac Lab. You were always there for me (minus that one terrible year). Chicken Parm. Steak Egg and Cheese + Hash Brown. Western Fries. I will always remember your deliciousness. $6-9 for a 10" hoagie + large fountain drink. Can get crowded late at night when the masses are leaving the library/when the bars close. So you see a wide mix of people there. The sleepless engineers who are still at the lab working on their senior projects. The high/drunk student coming back from a night of drinking. And just about anyone else. Not the cleanest place, but certainly not that dirty (definitely cleaner now than it was back in '05). Uni mini is now called University Market, after they moved to the other corner of St paul and 33rd St. Bottom line. The sandwiches are awesome. The University Market (and Deli) is a really great and cheap convenience store. The best part about University Market (or "Uni Mini" as the local Johns Hopkins students call it) is that it is open 24 hours!! The store is helpful for if you ever need to buy anything late at night, and the deli is great for when you happen to be craving junk food really late in the night... For instance, I got the 8 piece chicken nuggets and the mozzarella sticks. Definitely not the most healthy choice, but very satisfying. If you live in the Charles Village area, you have to.. HAVE TO know about this place. This 24/7 convenience store is my go-to if you need something quick and you don't want delivery. They offer made to order hot and cold sandwiches, sides and even ice cream! The guys working the store are super nice and friendly. You would think I would feel weirded out going to a convenience store at late hours of the night, but this place is welcoming and not at all sketchy. The mozzarella sticks, chicken parm, cheesesteak are really good... especially if you need something to eat after a night out. They offer breakfast sandwiches all day too, but I have yet to try that. In addition, the store offers a variety of Middle Eastern foods and spices which is pretty awesome. Kombucha drinks, Tahina sauce, falafel are some items you would find here that you might not typically find in a convenience store. If ever there was a five-star convenience store, this is it. It's open twenty-four hours and it's not sketchy or surreal at all. In addition to all the usual convenience store staples, you can stock up on Middle Eastern delights like tahini or a new hookah! And you have like a 60% chance of spotting the elusive totally stoned Johns Hopkins undergraduate ordering a falafel sub sandwich from the grill. That's right, grill! They make some great hot sandwiches, including breakfast sandwiches, falafel sandwiches, and a really good vegetarian sandwich, the contents of which I cannot really identify though I can testify that it's delicious. (Be forewarned - you are very likely to mistakenly receive a vegetarian "pizza" sandwich by accident. Those are okay too.) The fries are also excellent. My other favorite thing about this place, which I realize will appeal to very few other people, is their selection of Pop-Tarts. They carry the unfrosted brown sugar cinnamon Pop-Tarts, which I love because they are a.) delicious and b.) free of gelatin. We've visited Uni Mini for a very long time as one of the few 24-hour options for quick, reliable food. It's better and less expensive than delivery, by far. It is just frozen falafel here, but it's properly cooked and the toppings are always fresh - a quick falafel and hummus sub with fresh tomatoes and lots of black pepper is a great late night option to have. The beverage selection is excellent, the service is quick and organized, even when there's a huge line of drunk students on a weekend or stressed students during reading/finals week. I came back to Baltimore to visit yesterday, and the first place I went to, was of course, Unimini! Oh how I missed thee. It's a nice cramped little market run by some interesting people. This 24/7 convenience mart never fails to satisfy hungry students with their greasy subs and almost limitless huge fountain drink for under $10. It looked a bit cleaner than I remember, however, they also did raise the price of the subs by $1 from 5.99 to 6.99, of which I am outraged so I only gave it 4-stars, instead of 5. Sometimes they will ask if you want the standard vegetables as part of the sub, but if they don't, be sure to request for them (like onions and peppers, which they are willing to grill for you if requested, lettuce, tomatoes). All the non-sub/sandwich foods... nothing but deep fried: mozerella sticks, chicken wings, chicken tenders, fries. So eat these are your own risk! (But man, are they so tasty.) This little convenience store has a better variety of items than the typical convenience store -- particularly various Mid-Eastern items. And, additionally, it's actually open 24 hours a day, which truly makes it convenient. The gyro sub I got was surprisingly tasty. It was also surprisingly greasy, but thankfully much of that grease got absorbed by the wrapping paper. Impressively, they grilled the roll, providing for superior and more interesting layers of texture. Also, as a nice bonus, you get a free cup of coffee or soda fountain drink with your sub order. This place looks like a garden-variety convenience store, but it has a few gems: unusual offerings that are hard to find anywhere. I bought a huge jar of Lupini beans for a very reasonable price. Score! And they sell big 1-pound bags of Yerba mate (also very cheap)...as well as some middle-eastern spices and supplies. You can even get big boxes of Ma'amoul (date cookies)...mmm....yummy. And these items are all reasonably priced! I recommend peeking your head in here, and actually walking down every aisle. I love this place. Where else can you get a really good crab cake sandwich for about $4? They have a lot of pretty cool, unique sorts of things, too..like tasty dolmas. One of these days I'm going to try the bag of wasabi-flavored chips. They also have this coconut flavored soda I love. My boyfriend likes this place because they have Kinder Bueno, which is yummy chocolate from Austria. And it's always open! Great 24 hour convenience store in Charles Village. A brand new 7-11 was just put in next to my apartment but I still walk the extra couple blocks to go here usually. It's got great location, on St. Paul St in-between lots of other retail. One of the benefits of living next to John Hopkins is their security is out all the time, so I can walk to the University Minimart at 2 AM and not have to worry one bit. I'm not sure if that's true of any other neighborhood in all of Baltimore. Standard convenience store fare is available, but they also dish up some mean food. Deli sandwiches, hot subs, and of course, breakfast food. Nothing beats getting a bacon and egg bagel for a late dinner. They also serve ice cream and milkshakes, although having a Coldstone right next to it probably makes business tough on that. Besides foodstuff, they also have a big selection of hookahs. I don't smoke, so no clue on the quality on them, but they look pretty serious... Staff is friendly enough, and they do a good job in putting up with all the drunken kids coming in from PJ's and CVP down the street. There sure are a lot of them too, so these guys have some real patience. Prices are comparable to any other place like it. Common sense stuff - don't buy cereal at a convenience store when it's $4 cheaper for the same box at a grocery store. read more

I think that they have really good breakfast sandwiches. The sausage, egg, and cheese hoagie with the hash browns added are some of the best breakfast foods that you can get from that place. I love that this place is open 24 hours. It makes for a great break from royal farms chicken after being out at the bar. I really love that they offer so many ethnic treats. Being Korean in Baltimore, there are not too many places that sell Korean food in stores. I've seen spicy ramen (Shin Ramen) and packages of dried seaweed. This was the first and last time I came to this place. I ordered Chicken Parm Hoagie because someone on yelp recommended in reviews. I think this shop is over-rated. I hardly think people who liked its food have ever eaten any anything good. It was 6.99, it was not worth its price, not even close.The chicken was stiff. In one word I was deeply disappointed. If you buy other things in its supermarket, you should really pay extra attention. The cashier didn't even scan the barcode and he was very terrible at calculation. Not to mention he directly wadded and threw away my receipt into trash can when it was printed. They even over-charged me!!! bought one Chicken Parm Hoagie,which was 6.99, a $1.79 Dr. Pepper, and a 1.99 Campbell's soup. They totaled 10.77, but they took me 11.42. I remember so clearly because I did my math before I went to the counter. Since he threw away my receipt without informing, I did not know why.
