Wow! Unexpectedly fabulous!!! Ordered a small cake for a small wedding, and picked it up the morning of. It was exactly what I ordered, and the quality was just excellent. Chocolate cake was dense but light, with a small crumb. Just the right balance between spongy and crumbly, plenty moist and just delicious. I ordered a wedding cake for approx 20 people. They said it would have to be up to 30 , which was fine for me. We love left overs! I sent a pic of a 3 tiered cake, it was a modest 3 layered . When I picked it up I was shocked at how small it was , and it was only 2 layers. I was thoroughly disappointed and embarrassed at how small it was. My parents bought my wedding cakes here. We got chocolate with cappuccino filling and chocolate covered strawberries and a white cake with strawberry cream cheese filling. The white cake was the best of the two. The filling was awesome.. the cake could have been better if they put more of the filling in, it was a tease. The outer frosting on both cakes was gross... it tasted like crisco or something, and it was greasy to the touch. The chocolate cake was nothing special... Sophie made my wedding cakes in 2006! The review is late, but my goodness, I'm still dreaming of these cakes. The bride's cake was peach, and the grooms was chocolate raspberry (a brilliant chef/ friend said the grooms had mocha flavor, all I know is it was wonderful). Look, I love my husband and our wedding was wonderful because of this, but those cakes put it over the top. I remember portioning the cake in Tupperware to take back as much of it back to Houston as possible to share with those who couldn't come to F'berg, and then not sharing so much of the chocolate because it was incredible. okay, so I have never written a bad review on a business but I just can't let this go. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this bakery. Planning a wedding during a pandemic has obviously had its own challenges. From the beginning the communication via email had been lacking with Sophie's. My mom was in town for two day's so we decided to stop by and see if we could talk with someone that way we could all be on the same page and place our order. Susan told us that our 50 person wedding cake (which we had to cut by a third due to covid) didn't rate to her and she didn't have time to talk to us because our cake wasn't making her enough money. She then proceeded to tell us that she could "maybe" give us a maximum of 15 minutes but we shouldn't expect much because she isn't getting paid to do this. She belittled my mother and I and humiliated us. We both agreed we had never been treated so poorly by someone in customer service. Nevermind the fact that we were going to be paying over $600 for the bridal cake, grooms cake and delivery fee. Needless to say we told her nevermind and that we were going to be taking our business elsewhere. I notified my wedding planner, and every single one of my vendors and they were all beside themselves and told me they would NEVER be recommending Sophie's to any other brides. Save yourself the stress and find a bakery that WANTS your business. read more

I, like a lot of the other women who have left reviews here, don't like posting negative reviews. But, I feel that other women preparing for something as stressful as their wedding and going through that process need to know what they're getting into. Susan, the woman who handles all of your calls and emails, is not the friendliest and probably shouldn't be the one leading communications for a business. My husband wanted a funny grooms cake with a silly idea (very simple in concept) and when I pitched it to her, she didn't even pretend to go along with it. Sophie was cool about it and willing to do it, but we ended up ditching the grooms cake because of the price. Someone else mentioned this as well, but all of their emails end with this rude phrase "we appreciate when we can answer all of your questions in two or three replies" - like is that really necessary? And is that really how you want to portray good customer service? And now to my wedding cake. I saw promising cakes on their website and google review so I trusted them to be able to handle my design, as well. I wanted a pretty simple wood grain design, basically like an aspen tree, and what I got was pretty disappointing. Not even remotely like what I sent them, and what's sad is that I know they probably spent a lot more time on the cake I got just from the brush strokes. If you can't do it, I really don't mind going with something more simple, but just let me know upfront if you can't. Also, maybe this one is on me, but we live 5 hours away and couldn't sample the cakes so I went out on a limb and got the lemon cake anyways. It tasted alright, but let's just say my guests were in *love* with my husband's $15 chocolate cake from HEB, but no one mentioned my $300 cake from Sophie's. And the last thing, and probably what made us the most upset, was that Susan went behind our backs to call up our venue without telling us that they were or asking first. Instead of replying to my email over concerns with delivery time, they bypassed us and just called the venue instead. The venue didn't have any idea about our cake or what we had planned so this totally blindsided them. Plus, it was our venue's first event ever and they were incredibly busy. When I addressed this with Susan, she just argued with me more. Zero customer service skills. Y'all. Sophie may be great and I read great things about her grooms cakes, but Susan alone is why I will NEVER go back here or recommend this place to anyone else. read more

We met with Sophie I gave her my pictures a few ideas and she delievered...and boy did she deliver!!! I was so afraid my cake was going to look like a childs cake because it was going to be holstein cow print with wild flowers but it looked amazing!! And the flavoring was great! They even made it a point to deliver it before the guests arrived so not to be in the way!! They even called me 2 weeks before my wedding to confirm everything!! They where great! I have never written a negative review for a local business but I just can't sit on this. Sophie's baked our wedding cakes. They are the only specialty cake shop in the Fredericksburg area so we automatically went with them. I had a bad feeling from the very beginning when we asked for samples and not only had to pay for them but had to take them home because the owner or rep wouldn't sit down and do a tasting with us. We went with a white cake for brides cake and a carrot cake for the grooms cake. When we went in to drop the deposit off we looked at cake stands that were stacked on a table by the front entrance. I went to rotate a cake stand to see the other side and got yelled at by the older lady working the front to "not touch the cake stand because they are washed already". It was so rude and I felt immediately like I was not valued as a customer. And this was after the tasting issue (which was a minor one but still didn't sit right), and getting emails from them that always stated at the end "we appreciate when we can answer all questions within two or three replies" in bright bold red letters. Again, devaluing the customer. Our bridal and grooms cake were beautiful on the outside. I did very plain designs on both and had the florist add flowers. Our brides cake tasted flower-y. Not at all like our sample. Our grooms cake was delicious and perfect. For the price we paid for two plain cakes, they both should have been perfect or near perfect. After the wedding our wedding planner took the cake stands with the intention of dropping them off the next business day for us. On the following Sunday I got an email from them demanding on where the cake stands were while I was on my honeymoon. No greeting or congratulations or "how did you like our product". Bottom line is I have never felt so undervalued as a customer than I did while working with Sophie's. read more

It's not my style to write a neg review but I have to. I reached out to Sophie's Bakery in January as we were planning our destination wedding in Fredericksburg in October. Unfortunately due to costs we decided to move the venue and have our wedding local in San Antonio. I put a $75 deposit down with no contract. When I emailed to cancel 2 weeks ago I was told they already had labor involved and would only refund $37.50. If you call responding to Email labor that should be in a contract. The fact they have no contract and thus no cancel fees, the entire deposit should be returned. Despite my request for my full deposit back as there was no contract and thus no cancellation fees they have refused to do so. read more

It was a blessing in disguise, because Sophie's went over and beyond any expectations we ever had! They were very helpful and professional. I sent a picture of a cake design we had fallen in love with and honestly when we saw the cake at my daughter's wedding it was more beautiful than the picture we had sent them...absolutely gorgeous...and just as delicious!!! The team was very professional and accommodating during the cake tasting, and made sure they understood exactly how we wanted the cakes to look and taste. They were very patient with all of our concerns and answered all of our questions in detail. The cakes turned out beautifully, and they made the grooms cake exactly to our specifications, making sure to include all of the extra little details we wanted. I called to order a cake and ask would it be ready the following afternoon and I was told yes it would. I wanted a Lemon cake and I was informed that they didn't have that one which prompt me to ask do they make them fresh. Sophie inform me they make them fresh every week and they freeze them. She was offering me cakes with filling that I don't like. I am really simple. White cake with a buttercream or cream cheese filling and white icing and a chocolate cake with a chocolate buttercream filling with chocolate icing or white cake with lemon filling and white icing or lemon cake with lemon filling and lemon or white icing. I really didn't have to have any filling. I really wanted a 1/2 sheet white cake with white icing but she only had rounds to offer. Unfortunately, I decided not to order from this bakery because I am not fun of frozen cakes and also cakes that I can't order to my liking especially how much they cost. read more
