For a hotel cocktail bar, this place is way nicer than your average. It's part restaurant, part bar and has an amazing view over Dublin so it's worth it to see the view alone. Such a disappointing experience at Sophie's...twice! With the view and the location I thought this place would be an obvious win. As many have said, the decor and layout have more of a New York bar feel. My first experience was a weekday lunch with a few new friends. It was a sunny day so it made for such a bright and warm atmosphere upstairs. The waiter quickly brought water but after that we didn't see him for probably 20 minutes. Eventually he was able to grace us with his presence and took our orders. 20 minutes later, no food. We politely asked, he rudely replied "soon" and 10 minutes later, still no food. By the time our food arrived we were missing half the sides and the sides we did have were cold, which is not how you want your chips. My BLT was nothing fancy but the flavours were good enough. Long after I finished my sandwich they managed to bring out my sweet potato fries which were nice but no longer wanted. The whole experience took an hour and 15 minutes which does not suit the majority of weekday patrons that have to get back to work. To top it off, the waiter was in no way apologetic. I don't need the waiter to be my friend but they better support the aloofness with good service. My second experience was evening drinks with a friend. We had seats at the bar and at first, the bartender was attentive. However, after the first drink we'd have empty glasses for 10 minutes before we could flag down one of the many bartenders who were just standing around. Best pancakes in Dublin! My partner and I wanted a window seat to see the views of Dublin and we were accommodated. I ordered pancakes with fruit, my partner ordered the breakfast and boy were we impressed! Sumptuous brunch, I also got a glass of prosecco. The restaurant was busy, staff were friendly and I am definitely going back for some more pancakes! It was affordable too, our meals came up to €33.50 even with the prosecco. I think this is one of my favourite place in Dublin.... I have been here for cocktails, for brunch, for dinner.... And on friday, the dj puts some old school hip hop and smooth rnb, sooo perfect! So, if you want to eat there remember to book your table a little in advance, it can be get full very quikly (same for the brunch). But you can always have a nice cocktail party at the bar! By the way, you will not find "classic cocktails" here but very fancy creative and special ones! You will definetely want to try them all ehehe And of course, the view is more than nice.... This was such a great find. So glad I came. My date and I had a drink called 'shall we dance.' The strawberry on it was fresh and delicious. Yum. We chose mushroom risotto and scallop appetizers. Both very good choices. The mushroom flavor was strong but not overpowering. For dinner, he got the gnocchi and I ordered the roast pork ragu with penne. I definitely won that round. First time here on Friday night. What a hidden gem. Located on the 5th floor of the Dean's hotel on Harcourt, you could easily walk in to the downstairs bar clueless about what is going on upstairs. Perhaps because this place is still somewhat a secret, or so it seems, the place was definitely still buzzing with life, but not too busy. The decor of the place was gorgeous, and as a rooftop bar has an awesome view over the heart of the city/ Dublin lacks an abundance of rooftop bars, so just for that right there, how can you go wrong? The place was just pretty and lovely, it was a great choice and even managed to impress my London-dwelling friends who I took there for their first drinks out in Dublin town - success! Then there was the outdoor terrace. Heated so you don't freeze and with ample covering which we discovered was a big plus as the rain started lashing down late into the night. A lovely mix of couches and tables with chairs mixed amongst pot plants - nice in any weather but I can foresee this to be a real winner for an exclusive chilled out hangout on those summer days or nights. Overall the vibe was great. Marked down one star because the bar service seemed to be a bit slow/understaffed and when you did make your way to the front of the 'queue' to get served the staff just gave off a vibe of being overly swamped. Yes, this is a good brunch spot. The view all over Dublin is pretty impressive, and I like the whole lay out and how spacious it is Brunch menu is fairly standard, but they do pizza and flatbread as well. I opted for a bagel with avocado and smoked salmon. It came with a massive side salad, and I enjoyed every bite. For 10 euro certainly didn't break the bank. I finally made it to Sophie's! I loved the interior.. looks very classy and was quite spacious (something rare in Dublin). It seems like a nice place to have cocktails with some friends for a more classy kind of evening.. I think the majority of their food is more on the pricey side but I did have a pizza and the price was completely ok/normal (between 12 and 16 euros depending on what type of pizza) :) I did hear before that this place would be more recommended for their drinks and not for their food.. so I did not expect too much, but I have to say it was fine :) Not the best pizza I've had but by far not the worst. We also ordered Cocktails and they were really delicious. They also have a great Cocktail menu with lots of variety. Loved it. Prices are around 10€ for a Cocktail which is standard I guess. Dessert was quite massive! I insisted to get my own dessert and not share with my bf but guess I would have been fine if we shared it.. #noregrets I think we paid 65 euros for 2 - with main, dessert and 1 cocktail. The view from Sophie's seems to be the best thing about it. On a clear day you can see all over Dublin. Went here for brunch and it was fine, nothing amazing. I had the huevos rancheros and it wasn't great. Very rich, hard to actually eat as they serve it in a skillet pan and you have a butter knife to try cut through it. I'd really prefer a plate sometimes. My friends ordered different dishes, eggs florentine and avocado toast and I was disappointed when i saw theirs compared to mine. I would go back to try other things on the menu but only after pay day, it is very expensive. Penthouse prosecco... Drinks with a view (and I'm not just talking about Dublin's skyline). Strolled into the top bar last week for a few catch up drinkies with my gf Aoife who had a bottle of prosecco waiting at the bar. The music was fabulous, atmosphere was delightful with the balance of people noise to music ratio practically perfect. As we sat at the bar we had the benefit of spotting cocktails being made and decided to try the espresso martini "sophie" style. The staff were very friendly and informative (and very pretty ;-p) which added to the overall experience - I enjoy a bar tender who can have a bit if banter at the same time as being proficient. This place is famous among Dubliners as one of the best brunch places, so I've been meaning to come here for a while! If you have a big group (we were 8), make sure to book a table in advance. Firstly the decor is so nice, and the view of Dublin from this rooftop bar is stunning! The service was pretty good at the start, but we found towards the end of the meal it was difficult to get their attention to order drinks or the bill. I got the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and spinach which was really nice, runny egg yolks like they're supposed to be! The potatoes with it were delicious too. Ordered a side of honeyed avocado, and I just got sliced avocado! Pointed this out and it came back with honey on it this time. My friends got the huevos rancheros and full Irish fry which they liked. We were drinking gin & tonics which were great, two friends got Espresso Martinis which they raved about so that's definitely worth a try! I like his place for wine, less so for food. The deck is awesome in the summer and they could do with expanding it, but, given the Irish weather it's probably big enough! Be warned though, get there early at the fist sign of sunshine! Staff are generally helpful and prompt, but sometimes on the deck, device can be a little slow. The food is okay, pizza is best thing they have. I don't like sitting at the bar-the seats are uncomfortable and it kind of feels wrong to eat at a bar. Tables are nice though and view is fantastic. Sitting on top of the Dean hotel, this is a cracking little restaurant. I've been in here a couple of times, and both times I've gotten the steak. It really is that good. Next time though, I'm going for the pizzas. They look and smell amazing. The beer garden they have which looks out onto Harcourt st is great, but it can get a little chilli if you're not sitting in direct sunlight. You can also eat in the garden if you don't want to be in the restaurant. I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to though - the views over Dublin are stunning. read more

I genuinely like Sophie's. It's equally good for a brunch and a dinner. For a romantic date or a family get together. It's good to go there with colleagues after work as well. This is one of the only hotel bars that I would make a point to visit if I actually lived in the city... so that says it all dontcha think? Amazing rooftop viewpoint? Check check check. If only every patio was like this place, I would never ever eat/drink inside. It's especially comforting on the nights that large crowds of youths are taking to the clubs downstairs. If you happen to be stuck in the hotel on one of these occasions, leave your room, head to Sophie's, order an expensive wine/whisky (because you are, afterall, an adult and no longer subject to the blue tinted drinks & red bull laced drinks of said youths) and grab a vantage point where you can have flashbacks of your 21 year old self and watch drunk children navigate cobblestones. Oh no, I had been so excited to come here and was oh so disappointed.... First off the venue is fantastic, beautifully laid out, airy, bright and with incredible views across Dublin. Unfortunately that was the only positive in my very first experience of the venue. Having waited over 20 minutes to try and order the surly waiter was incapable of explaining the menu, and my request for salad was accompanied by the same level of drama one might expect had I stated I subsist entirely on the tears of unicorns. EVERYTHING was a hassle for our waiter. Sophies has made that well know mistake people trying to impress often do, they have hired French waiters, universally agreed to be the worst on the planet, to lend an "air". Serious failure lads, the young guy who seemed to be more bus boy than waiter was lovely, but heavens above - our primary waiter was one of the worst I have ever encountered, ultimately refusing to apologise for the substandard food and tragically lacking service. Now on to that - food! I got a salad, so bland I could not have picked out a single veggie had I been blindfolded. It was a decent selection, but somewhat pointless if every damn thing tastes the same. It was my only option and I left half behind. I also split chips and onion rings, the chips were tepid at best and onion rings only so-so, but at €3.95 for a side I'd expect more, both in terms of quantity and quality I really could not have felt more let down by Sophies, I had such high hopes and my boss had only eaten the dinner menu there last night and was raving about it, but I just can't imagine going back for anything but drinks. 5 stars for the views alone! I came here with a friend on a Wednesday night and the hostess managed to squeeze us in without a reservation - we were very lucky as the place was packed. The wine was delicious as was the food. I had the salt and pepper squid and my friend had the creamy crab pasta which looked divine. If I had to find a fault, our waitress wasn't very friendly and we frequently had to try and grab her attention to be served. Everyone else could not have been more obliging. I have been to Sophie's twice now, and can't get over the feeling that they put every bit of effort they could muster into making it look good, and forgot about the rest. Because it really does look wonderful, it's beautifully designed, elegant and modern, but still inviting. The problem is everything else. The first time I went for drinks, with Robbie Keane propping up the bar on the night and willingly posing for photos with half the. The cocktail menu still contained holding text instead of a full list, and maybe it was teething problems, but every time I went for a glass of wine, they insisted the three then four cheapest ones on the list were gone (and none of them were cheap to begin with). The next time I went for a work lunch with a group of colleagues. We arrived at 1.00, ordered a starter and main at 1.15, and left at 3. Because we only got our food at 2:30. The manager apologised after we went up twice to ask how long it would be (we all needed to be back at the office) and did eventually knock 10% of the bill. The excuse was pretty poor though, as they told us "they were swamped by a rush at 1pm". This might have worked, except they only served lunch that day from 1pm to 2pm, so they can't have been unsurprised, and the place was half empty. The food we eventually got was pretty meh. I had salt and chilli squid, which had beautiful fresh chunks of squid, but had no seasoning, and definitely wasn't salt and pepper. This was followed oxtail ragu with pappardelle. There was about 1 tablespoon of oxtail sauce on the pasta, and it was watery and bland. The fresh pistachios on top were beautiful, but that was its only saving grace. The menu read like the chef knew how to make a trendy sounding dish, but didn't know how to execute it. I'd come back for a drink and to enjoy the surroundings, but definitely wouldn't be worth staying for more than that. read more

Only giving more then 1 star because of the view and decor. First off the food was really really bland; I ordered a burger medium rare, which I was told, was not allowed to be cooked like that, which straight away is a bad sign as it means the quality of mince they use is not at a high enough standard to be cooked to order like a steak. Well it showed, the burger was tough, full of cartilage and grizzle and lacking in taste. She ordered the Huevos rancheros, which again, was under seasoned and generally tasteless and bland. Generally if I'm disappointed with the food I only turn to yelp when not given the chance to express my disappointment. Unfortunately this was one of those times. We both ate less than half of our meals, but the waitress just whisked our plates away without a thought. Very disappointing experience and it looks like that's the general consensus looking at other reviews, shame because the place could be so nice. read more

I'm going to caveat my rating by saying that nothing about Sophie's is a 2, at worst it's a 3, but given the expectations i had for the place based on everyone else's reviews & comments I really can't give it much more. Firstly, yes the view is absolutely amazing. The food was grand. That's all. Nothing special. I have absolutely no reason to eat here again, other than for the view, as there are places doing similar food at a much better price. We had 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert & a bottle of wine & it came in at more than €100 - in my opinion the food just wasn't worth that amount of money. I know that wine always brings the price up, but it wasn't an expensive bottle of wine & we were really unhappy to be paying as much as we were as we just didn't feel it was worth it.
