- Put a smile on your face! -…read more Main street in my tiny town is growing quickly. This is the 3rd tiny shop to open recently in front of the historic Jacaranda hotel. Arriving- Theses Shops have private entrances on Main Street so you don't necessarily need to go inside the hotel. Main Street parallel parking is free. An alternative is to park behind the hotel in the free lot and walk through it. It's beautiful so you won't regret it! Ambience- A lot of folks say cute and I would agree. Also, spotless. Products- The focus is soda of which there are hundreds. There are also ice cream and hot dogs which I didn't have a chance to sample. My focus was old fashioned root beer. I had no problem finding what I wanted and the price was fair. Customer Service - Nice guy that was friendly and efficient! I couldn't ask for more! Conclusion- So it's a blistering hot Florida summer day and you need a break from sweating. A great choice would be a hot dog, soda and an ice cream for dessert. Five stars! Pro Tip- This is one of three delightful privately-owned businesses all adjacent to each other. The other two are aromatic and delicious coffee shop and a unique Italian market. Lunch Menu- There is plenty of breakfast food, but this review focuses on their lunch bagel sandwiches, so there are about a dozen sandwiches available and they average about $7.50. I chose the Brooklyn @ $7.50. It's a pumpernickel bagel with pastrami, Swiss cheese, dill pickles and mustard. My side was the Broccoli Salad, 8oz. $3. It's chopped broccoli, crumbled bacon, red onion, and shredded cheese, in a slightly sweet dressing. I brought my lunch home, and you can see my pictures. Taste- Chewy bagel, tons of meat & cheese, snappy pickle, and savory mustard. What's not to like. A seriously scrumptious sandwich. The Broccoli Salad is my new obsession. Backstory- Back in the day, that would be 1935, Steve Maxwell was a big-time citrus grower. He had over 100 acres and opened this quaint little store to showcase his fruit and the packing house behind it to process it. Today, Steve is getting on in years and has leased this quaint country store to some fine folks from Frostproof. Atmosphere- An old-fashioned front porch with rocking chairs for enjoying the Florida weather. An immaculate old-style interior will all manner of citrus based food and paraphernalia. One of the highlights is orange ice-cream! Grab some, sit in the rockers and let the stress fall away. The little ankle-biters will love it! In season, this is the place to ship Florida citrus to friends and relatives. Just this last December they shipped over 600 boxes! If you are in the area, grab a meal in tiny Avon Park. So, they're looking for evening business instead of morning and I find that a little odd. Ambience- Cute, maybe eclectic, or maybe strange but in a good way. They have seating for six, but it feels like a take-out place. Everything is spotless! Customer Service- Genuinely friendly and efficient. Product- Huge variety (maybe 40) with choices clearly posted on the wall. If you want a head start, they have an excellent website. Expect a typical drink to cost about $6.50 with $.50 cent upcharge for popping juice pearls. Conclusion- If you are in my teeny-tiny town, this is a must stop for boba drinks!

We'll see if they are up to the challenge! Arriving- They are on Main Street (Scenic Hwy) in teeny tiny Frostproof, and they have no parking lot! Street parking is limited. That's challenge #1. Ambiance- It looks like a converted gas station. Restrooms are outside. There are picnic tables out front. Inside is nice and clean with well-spaced tables. Customer Service- No problems! I didn't ask but I believe I was chatting with the husband-and-wife owners and service was just fine! Adult Libations- They are dry and serve Coke products. When I asked for a Diet Coke, nope! What I really would have liked was a beer! Food- No menus yet, not even on a chalkboard! After two months that's unacceptable! The meats available today were ribs, chicken legs and wings. No pulled pork, sausage, or brisket. Meat variety is challenge #2. I ordered a Rib Platter that came with two sides and a bottle of Coke. The pre-tip tab was just under $20. The three ribs were great with lots of meat and the sauce was spot on. The sides were just there, and I have nothing to say about them which is challenge #3. I was also surprised no bread product was offered. If I'm gonna pay $20 for lunch, I expect a small piece of cornbread or maybe a slice or two of Texas toast but there was nothing. Let's call that #4. I think they have potential, and the ribs were great so I'm going three-stars. Let's see if they can step up their game and I'll return in a couple of months.

There were tons to choose from and every code I looked at was waaay longer then I needed. My small pile of snacky stuff cost me a whole $6. I would have paid double or triple that at normal retail! Obviously, these folks are Tastykakes and there are mountains of them to choose from. They have several locations in Central Florida and are definitely worth a stop if you have the munchies!

It's hard to tell but I just call it delicious! They seem to be most known for their teas and meal replacement drinks. I had a good friend that offered to buy me an iced tea and as I'm usually a coffee drinker, I told her to surprise me. She handed me a beautifully iced cup called a Black Widow (Strawberry, Raspberry, Grape, and Peach). It was superb! I posted a pic of just part of their giant menu so you can see their unbelievable selection. BTW- I could have had an iced coffee which would be typical for me, but I took a walk on the wild side. Note- This is a street-parking place but that is usually not a problem in teeny tiny Avon Park. Note- If you are specially health conscious and doing the meal replacement thing, this is your place! These folks are very very knowledgeable! When it's hot and humid out, and of course that never happens in Central FL, this is a five-star place to grab a cool and often healthy drink!
