Just edited my 5 star review on google after being a patient here for the last 3-4 years. That…read morereview was for Dr. Beasley who is no longer a part of the practice. This 1 star is for Dr. Brewer. First let me start with how much EVERYTHING price wise has increased since the departure of Dr. Beasley. Prices have nearly tripled. Second, I go back and forth between NC (where my family resides) and Florida ( where I reside currently) and have continued to make sure appointments, check ups, etc are maintained in NC because I'm there often enough. I was up for an Easter visit and had my dog seen to get up to date on shots and have other questions answered as she is a senior dog (plus she is more familiar with this office and I felt good initially as she met Brewer once before). Dr. Brewer made extreme changes to her diet, and added in other items she now felt was essential (so essential she went to the back to bring out a bag of it to add to my bill even after I told her I would order it from chewy). She also grabbed my dog a bit aggressively to hold her still for a shot and I was so shocked I didn't say anything, but was really annoyed (and of course now upset with myself for not advocating better for my dog). Well, we change the diet and my dog is so unhappy. She's refusing food (for 2-3 days which is very unlike her)...I'm trying to come up with other alternatives that'll work with little to no luck. This is a perfectly happy, healthy, eats every meal kind of dog, so this rapid change is concerning (it started slowly with less interest in food to not eating at all this past week). She has lost interest in walks, seems lethargic, melancholy, and has even vomited a few times all in the past 48 hours. I called the office to speak with Dr. Brewer directly and go over my concerns and what's been happening. She couldn't even be bothered to get on the phone with me but rather stated there's nothing more she can do and I need to bring her to my vet here. Of course I'm bringing her to the vet here, but wanted some clarity, maybe a few suggestions, and some possible insight to what's going on (these are all her recommended changes) so I can be as prepared as possible when I do go to the vet here. I am now believing all the negative reviews as it has happened to us! All this vet cares about is money and racking up your bill! I will NEVER bring my dog back. Update: after a $1,500 vet bill, including extensive blood work and an ultrasound we've determined my pup has severe pancreatitis which commonly occurs after diet changes that the dog can't digest properly...(side note that the diet change was deemed absolutely unnecessary by my vet in Florida and that was the ONLY change made during this time period). My dog is being put on numerous antibiotics/medications and is still not 100% in the clear. She will need to be closely monitored for the next few days and if this first course of action doesn't work she will need hospitalization. SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY HEALTHY AND HAPPY BEFORE THIS!!! Dr. Brewer has cost me time, lots of money, and my dog suffering through this ordeal. I stand by what I said; this practice does not care about your animals but rather how much they can squeeze out of your wallet. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE IF YOU WANT ACTUAL TREATMENT!!!

I know there are discussions online right now, but I wanted to share my own perspective and…read moreexperience. From what I have personally seen very recently, the dogs at Angier K9 have appeared cared for, active, and engaged. I've also seen the amount of work being put into training, cleaning, structure, and communication. They also continue to work alongside local rescues and receive referrals from them. No kennel or training environment is perfect, and dogs can absolutely experience stress, weight changes, stomach issues, or adjustment periods during boarding and training. These things can happen in many types of facilities, especially in environments involving routine changes, increased activity, and time away from home. I also think there is a difference between poor communication, unmet expectations, business disputes, and actual abuse. That is a very serious accusation and I believe it's important for people to look at the full picture, ask questions, tour facilities, and make decisions based on direct observation and their own experience rather than assuming everything written online is automatically proven fact. I appreciate seeing the effort toward transparency, education, and continued improvement.

-updating my review to discuss the recents changes at Angier K9:…read moreAngier k9 (run by Christian Scharphorn & Kelton Azuara-Walker) have only just recently made changes to their "backyard" "training". These changes were only made because they have had 2 lawsuits and at least one dog death, have been investigated by animal control and were told they were not taking care of the dogs properly, and as many as 15-20 dogs/owners have had their dogs returned very sick and injured and NOT trained! -They are acting as if these new changes have always been put in place. -Dog owners are now speaking out publicly because individually we were made to feel like our dogs were the only one this happened to. This is NOT just a little weight loss or stress due to the environment. I have not found any other "board and training" with as many complaints as this place. -They left our dogs in an outdoor cage for 6 weeks when we were told they would be inside when not being directly trained. -Everything you see in their recents video was NOT there before this month (5/2026) and they have been running this sketchy business for several years! -They are still lying in their videos saying they have "kennel technicians" working 12-14 hours a taking care of your dog in these new outdoor kennels but yet they do not show the technicians? -If Christian & Kelton can show me proof that my dogs slept inside, or was kept in something like they are now showing in the "new videos".....I want to see it. I want to see video of them being "trained". My dogs already knew all the basics and didn't learn anything new! -Shouldn't they have tons of videos and pictures like they claim they send to the owners of my dogs too? Well, guess what.....they don't because they didn't do anything they agreed to do with and for my dogs!!! -6 weeks of board & train by self proclaimed backyard trainers who fooled me into thinking they were real.....took my dogs, took my money and all I got was sick and injured dogs with vet bills. They had hookworms, lost a lot of weight, ear and eye infections, and elbow scans! -Look up the law suits, look up the complaints, then search other local training places online. They don't have issues like Angier K9!! -Angier K9 (Christian & Kelton) are nothing but glorified dog walkers who will teach your dog to sit and place while neglecting them!! That's all!!

We sent our pit bull, Ollie, there and we are happy to report that he is now the best boy. We…read morerescued him from the shelter in 2018 and we quickly saw that we had some work to do. He pulled on the leash, barked at the door, and had bouts of aggression when he didn't get his way. I felt uneasy having guests over because I felt like I had no control over my dog. Basically, my dog owned me.. not vis versa. He did ~2 weeks of the board and train program at SMS Raleigh and even though we were nervous to send him away (it felt like forever!), we loved getting bi-weekly updates from his trainer and seeing his progress. Training Ollie will always be a work in progress but the biggest different we have seen is that HE LISTENS! Hallelujah. My friends come over and say they see a huge difference in him - he's calm, sweet, and charming. He is still a dog.. he does bark at the mailman, and sometimes pulls on the leash, but if we correct him, he is happy to obey. I also love the fact that we have free access to the group classes 2x a week and have the opportunity to continue training him. Overall, we are very happy with his progress and we are dedicated to continue training him with the SMS methods.

Colby the owner explained it best to me when he said "It's not about punishment, it's about attention and boundaries. Dogs want to please their owners, so once you have their attention their instinct takes over and training becomes easier. The strides and response to this training are remarkable. So pleased with the results so far. I am happy and more importantly my dog is happy. We have only had 3 private whole day training sessions, and tonight we will attend our first group training. Looking forward to this as it can only help build on the foundation established in the private 3 lessons. The training is not inexpensive, however it cheaper than replacing carpet not to mention several pairs of shoes, baseboards ETC. I recommend sitting down with Colby or any of the other trainers and let them explain why this works. You won't have any regrets. Rick W
