I would really have liked to write a glowing review of this resort. At some level, it hurts my heart that I cannot. For one, the setting (as mentioned in other reviews) is beyond gorgeous, stunning - simply insufficient adjectives in the world to describe the beauty and majesty of the natural surroundings. There are also employees there such as the new manager (Jason - 3 days on the job!), the bar tender who does so much more than simply bar tend though she is great at that and the young man at the front desk that is originally from Georgia - I am sorry that I am so bad with names as this group was delightful. Even if I didn't agree with some of the manager's views. The greatness stops there. Unfortunately. And I simply do not understand it. We checked in on an early Tuesday afternoon. They have no masseuse on staff and, thus, really no ability to schedule a massage or other spa services unless you plan far in advance. It isn't that they are booked, it just isn't possible. Ok, so too hot to ride or hike at that point. We aren't the ATV or off road vehicle type so we went off to investigate the area around us. We had already been to Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point so we went searching for ghost towns...bear w me on this... We returned to the hotel room around 4:30 pm looking forward to a shower and a drink on the front porch of the guest lodge overlooking the river. The shower was fine. The room is ok. Not really a $1000+ per night luxury. A bit shabby. The bathroom was adequate. It had a big claw foot tub. There was hot water and the towels seemed ok if a bit worn. I got out of the shower to find my spouse w a look of horror - bugs crawling on the bed. Now, I will tell you right now that the manager did not think that he saw bugs and that there were no bed bugs. I've never seen bed bugs before but ai (Claude and ChatGPT) tells me these are bed bugs. Regardless, really??? See the attached pictures. Nonetheless, the manager upgraded our room and moved us. I was so mortified I refused to return to the room and I sat and drank at the bar. My spouse and a guy from housekeeping moved our room. One of the employees told my spouse that the room had already been cleaned (in less than an hour!! HOW???)!!! My mortification continued... I'm skipping a lot of detail but...the odd situation continued. The new guest room to which we were moved has no hot water in the shower (but there was in the sinks) and the towels were dirty. They did comp us for dinner and breakfast. They were supposed to comp us for drinks but changed their minds. However, as mentioned in other reviews, there is an enormous service fee of 22% on "ancillary items" that is mandatory. PLUS there is a separate resort fee of approximately 10% of total charges. Also not disclosed and mandatory. It was a crazy, surreal experience the likes of which I've never experienced. I've travelled extensively - China, Kenya. Uganda, Europe and all over the U.S. for personal and business travel. I have never seen anything like this. I am simply shocked and horrified. I couldn't even get angry. Thank God it was only for one night before we returned to Denver for our departing flight. read more

We were staying down the street at The Red Cliffs Lodge but all of the restaurants were closed and under construction and there is literally nothing out there except Sorrel River, but thank god we stumbled upon it. The service, people and food were absolutely fantastic. I had the ribeye the first night and the pork chops the second night. Yes went there twice it is that good. You don't have to stay there to eat there. We were treated like one of their guests. They treated us 1000x better than the Red Cliff Lodge did. The evening colors were magnificent. read more

This review is for the restaurant only. We had a reservation for the Christmas dinner. The service was great, but the food was very hit or miss. The lobster bisque had two tiny pieces of lobster in it. The burrata salad was served with cold, hard garlic bread. The filet was amazing and cooked to perfection-the redeeming quality of the meal. The final straw for three stars was the dessert. The ice cream sundae "served with all your favorite toppings" had a choice of caramel or chocolate sauce. The only two toppings available apparently. The pecan pie tasted stale and leftover. The price told to us online was different than the price we were charged for the prefix menu. We ate here for NYE as there is limited dining options in Moab in the winter! We were pleasantly surprised by how good this meal was! It was worth the 30 min drive from Moab! They still had their holiday menu where you choose options for each course. We didn't realize this was the menu option but it all was delicious! My wife and I stayed here for 4 days and had a phenomenal experience. This was our first trip to Moab and we were all floored by the natural beauty driving in to Sorrel. The ranch feels like it was carved into the landscape - our room was right on the river, so we woke up to stunning sunrises lighting up the mesas each morning. The restaurant was great and we tried to mix it up each day. Much of the menu was from the on-property garden, which we both loved. And the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our requests and make us feel welcome. From the rooms, to the activities, to the food and beyond, it was a great trip from top to bottom. My family and I took our first official road trip vacation from Long Beach, CA into Utah this past June. We stayed at the Sorrel River Ranch as our first stop for three nights. Our stay was really great and we had a wonderful time. There's a lot to take in when you arrive. The scenery is seriously something out of a movie and it's nothing short of breath-taking. Our room had gorgeous views of all the mountains and was literally steps away from the Colorado River. Experiencing the sunrises and sunsets was absolutely amazing. When we arrived, we hit the Epic Bar for some cocktails to wind down and settle in. We ordered Old Fashioneds and they were excellent!! Kudos to the bartender for one the best drinks I've ever had! We had dinner at the River Grill one of the nights and it was wonderful. I enjoyed the veal shank atop asparagus and mixed greens. The veal was also a hearty size, which was nice. Of course, I paired the meal with another excellent Old Fashioned. All in all, Sorell was a great place to stay and we enjoyed our stay there. I'd recommend staying with them on your travels to Moab. read more

For over $1000 per night the service and resort should be impeccable - instead everything is broken or falling apart from the water fountains that don't work to the absolutely pathetic restaurant that will charge $30 for burnt eggs. This place is a joke. Don't fall for the 5-star reviews that seem to be fake. Why do they all mention several staff members by name? Doesn't it seem suspicious to you when every single five star review has lines like "Jeffrey was a dream, Jose at the bar was amazing, Mandy at the front desk was super helpful." Who is memorizing the name of the front desk person for a review??? I guarantee many of these reviews are fake. The grounds and location are beautiful but the resort itself is not worth the price. The staff is nice but has no idea what is going on and won't be able to answer any of your questions. You will receive an extra charge of at least $600 a week after you leave. read more

This place feels sooo nice! The restaurant was empty when we arrived - we made a reservation for ten people. All the waitstaff were so nice and accommodating. I had the snapper and my husband had pheasant, most everyone had Caesar salads and elk and everything was really good. The potato side tasted like dessert! I wish they didn't have live music because we were there to socialize with one another and it was annoying to have to talk so loudly over the music to be heard. Even my five year old was begging to go downstairs where it was quieter - so definitely would have enjoyed it more without that. I did see reviews that said the rooms were run down and apparently $895 and up for a night. The property is beautiful. We were given a tour of their garden by Mindy. She showed us all the fantastic produce used for the salads we would have later. The bartender was attentive and the drinks were imaginative. The atmosphere at the hotel and restaurant was excellent. We only came for dinner and the beautiful Scenery of the Colorado River, canyon walls and Mesas. . Had dinner here; Kevin Costner sometimes hangs out but not tonight. Fantastic food: Bison Ragu and Pappardelle, Venison Polenta and Wild Mushrooms. Goat cheese and beet salad from their garden. Our server, Nichole, was great, funny and a pleasure. This review is only based on restaurant experience. I have been to Moab a few times and have always driven past Sorrel River Ranch, so it was inevitable that I would eventually end up here. I felt that since my mom is visiting me from Belgium, this was the perfect moment. I called up to make a reservation and we were all set. Upon arrival, we parked at the reception and the friendly staff escorted us upstairs to the restaurant. All windows offer a beautiful view on the river. The interior decoration was thought out to perfection; gorgeous combination between barn and modern life. Our waitress, Melissa, took excellent care of us the entire evening. We felt she was genuinely interested in the conversations we had, but also left us some privacy during dinner. The menu is absolutely to die for. All dishes are locally farmed and included a nice, gamy selection including wagyu beef, duck, elk, etc. They also have plenty of scrumptious desserts to choose from such as sorbet, cheesecake, creme brulee etc. We could not have had a more wonderful experience, and we are thankful for all the effort the staff puts into this place. This place has an amazing setting but unfortunately for our stay that was quickly overshadowed by the lack of service from staff, lack of food services because they did not state their main restaurant that overlooks the Colorado River is under renovation as well as a complete lack of transparency on the website and in communications with the resort about extra charges and fees for just about everything. When we politely and repeatedly asked for clarifications about multiple charges that were incorrect and charges (20% service charge on everything and that is in addition to the 4.57% transient room tax, 6.85% room sales tax and 12% resort fee) - we were given a many excuses, confused looks as they didn't understand. We were very patient but we finally understood that the confused looks they gave us were intentional to make the guests feel silly for questioning their charges. We were charged for the wrong group sizes and activities we didn't even go on. We understand state mandated taxes but the service charge of 20% that was not ever shown to us during booking the resort and adventure is within the control of the resort. At the end of the day you really feel like they take advantage of their guests. We stayed at many 5 star resorts and this by far does not come close to the level of service and transparency you would expect. I didn't even get into the quality of the actual cabins which were average for the price tag. It is a shame for a place that has a unique setting I would highly suggest looking other places. Today was day 6 of our 7 days in Moab so we decided to treat ourself to a spa treatment... Tina was amazing and has a special way about the experience. We've love the Ranch and found it on happenstance as we were driving out 128 for a hike and adventure. We've been 3 different occasions as the food and atmosphere is incredible. We weren't guests but everyone has made us feel like we were. I unfortunately need to write this on yelp after getting no response by phone or email from management. I did leave a message with the front desk on Thursday 4/29 and never received a call back. I also submitted the feedback form that was emailed to me and again received no call back. I also responded to an email form them regarding my folio I requested and gave them this feed back and still no response. I was trying to avoid submitting a yelp review as I saw how many negative reviews they had. We travel a lot and have been to fancy places and not so fancy places. Many years ago I drove by Sorrel River Ranch and I thought it was amazing looking. I looked it up and saw the reviews and they were outstanding and I could not wait to go. So this year we had some time and needed to get away and decided on Sorrel River. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met. Let's start with this, I usually do not have huge exceptions when I go places, for the very reason, not to be disappointed. But between the reviews from years ago and the price per night, I had higher exceptions than usual. Whoever hired their front desk staff did a good job on their personalities. I thought every one was very pleasant and wanted to please. But after the hiring, I believe the staff were not supported in their training. The lack of training and knowledge was very frustrating. We pretty much had to figure out when meals were served on our own, where the dining room was, where the spa was. No one gave us an introduction to anything on the property, we basically just stumbled around until we found it. The answer we got a lot was "I just started last week." No one knew about any of the hikes or activities that they had HAND WRITTEN on their chalkboard. No handouts on schedules, everything was supposed to be online, but we had a hard time pulling anything up. The menu was limited. Breakfast was great, but the food in the dining room was average and the staffing was inadequate. First night we wanted to eat and we had a reservation at 8pm because that was all that was available. We went up to dining room to see if we could get in earlier. There was only two tables that had 2 people each and they could not seat us because they were expecting a table of 12 and they only had one wait staff on a Saturday night. The dining room manager was very accommodating and arranged for us to be able to eat our meal in the bar and brought our food down to us. He seemed very stressed. The room was very nice and they did a nice job cleaning, though they did not empty the garbage or refill the coffee. We had to request more toilet paper and coffee. Dianne at the barn was AMAZING! She was very informed and able to share a lot of information and we had a great trail ride with her. But she also was not a seasonal employee and had been there for over two years. I can not say enough about Dianne. If it were not for her and the amazing trail ride we did with her, I would be giving a one star. The real clincher on our frustrating trip was we got up at 4:30am on Thursday 4/29 to be at airport for our Hot Air Balloon ride that we had been so excited for as it was the first time for both of us. We arrived at 6am and they had no reservation for us and the basket was full. I had made this reservation months in advance! I even had front desk email them on that Monday when we were thinking about seeing if could change to Wednesday. The balloon ride was on our itinerary and we had a discussion with front desk staff on when to be at the airport and that we would leave from the airport to SLC from there. I called front desk at 6am on that Thursday as we were left at the airport in shock  and told them all of this and that I needed a manager to call me. Though they were very apologetic and said they'd make sure someone would call, no one ever called to follow up. Actually there was no follow up on anything. Which, again, for  luxury resort that they are trying to be, follow ups to visits should be a norm. I did submit the feedback form with a ONE star and still no one followed up. I am extremely disappointed in the management at this point. I believe the employees try, but without training and support, you will continue to get low ratings on yelp and I would think at some point the owner of the resort will see the decline in the resort and the reviews that you are getting. I hope you take this for what it is intended in helping you structure, train, and support your seasonal employees to create a better experience for your guests. read more

Truly an oasis amongst miles of desert. On a recent weekend trip to Moab, my gentleman friend and I compromised and agreed to one night of sleeping in a tent and a second at a resort of his [impeccable] choosing. Personally, I think I got the better end of the deal. After 24 hours of car-camping, hiking, and general not-so-roughing it, we were thrilled to be back among a seemingly-endless supply of water on the ranch. Dunking in the glorious pool that we had to ourselves nearly the entire time, with a view of the river, followed by a long bath back at the room in our claw-foot tub. The ambiance throughout the entire property and the view from our 2nd story suite was tranquil. Note to self: next time we want to request a porch swing to enjoy the view of the river. I only wish we had more time to enjoy their abundance of amenities and excursions. The grounds are kept well and the staff went above and beyond to suit our whimsy. *Minus one star for a particularly unpleasant blonde seating hostess at brunch Sunday morning. I am guessing this is the same lump of coal that is criticized in a few other Yelp reviews; how she is still on staff baffles me. read more

We were a large party that stayed here for two nights. In general it was nice to use as a home base and the rooms across the pool from the lobby seemed to be the better ones talking to the people in our group. Service was okay and the food was mixed. On our first night we had a sit down meal where they placed us upstairs. It was warm in the room (yes, it was summer time) and the odd thing on top of this was the fireplace was on. WTF? Anyway, the second night BBQ buffet was actually quite good. Eating outside along the river front was very nice after the sun went down. WiFi is slow but usable and unless you have better luck than I cell phones are generally useless anywhere on property. read more

We stayed here in October 2016 in room C5. Overall, we really enjoyed the hotel- it was relaxing and scenic. Here were our impressions: The positive: -Although not super spacious, the standard mountain view rooms are clean and well-maintained. They have a small kitchen area with sink, mini fridge, and microwave. Each room has a small deck with porch swing -The bed and sheets were very comfortable -Beautiful grounds, with the Colorado River in your own backyard and gorgeous views of surrounding red rocks -After a lot of research, we found this to be the nicest hotel in the Moab area -Private hiking trail for guests only, an easy 1 hour roundtrip -Some fun activities for kids: petting zoo daily at 1pm, s'mores by the fire each evening (both are complimentary) -One of the staff, Freddie, stood out for his excellent service and willingness to share information about the hotel and local attractions -While some might see this as an inconvenience, the hotel is secluded and 30 minutes away from the main Moab tourist area. The drive on 128 to Sorrel River Ranch is quite breathtaking during the day, although it is very dark at night so you need to drive carefully! Areas for improvement: -No turndown service. For a resort charging such rates, I would expect turndown service -Price is high for what the resort offers. We compared this hotel to Enchantment in Sedona, which had more amenities, more polished customer service, and was less expensive -Wifi was pretty weak in our room -My husband noted in the reservation we were celebrating our anniversary, but the staff did not comment or leave a card/note in our room upon arrival -It would be great to have a few activities included in the nightly rate (e.g. yoga class in the morning or stargazing at night) -Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was pricey and underwhelming -Parking area is not super convenient. You have to walk down the driveway to get to the rooms Sorrel River has the potential to be an outstanding resort, especially considering the amazing setting and extensive grounds (160 acres of ranch land with spa, petting zoo with chickens, pigs, horses, etc.) I hope the management takes their customer feedback into consideration! read more

The views are stunning and the staff is very nice. The amenities are a plenty, temps courts, basketball, animals and anymore but Not a 4 star resort. Visited the 1st week into season and the restaurant was not ready for guests. Food is mediocre and slow to come out. Quite a few of staff didn't know about the property or surroundings. Might seem petty but how can no one know the name of the mountain right in front. Yoga wasn't available and no bikes to make navigating the property easier. We paid peak season prices so they should of been fully ready. read more

The setting and scenery of this place couldn't be more perfect. It's absolutely stunning. Almost worth a visit JUST for that alone. We made a Saturday night sunset dinner reservation for that reason, which unfortunately was super disappointing. The drinks list is extremely limited, only a few cocktails and a handful of average Wines by the glass - all around the $20+ mark. Complete rip off The entrees were between $40-$90 and really basic and lacked flavor. The trout was almost certainly cooked in the microwave and had ZERO flavor. The rice it came with was not even cooked properly. Still hard. Tried to finish it as I was starving but just couldn't. Ordered a side of Brussel sprouts which was burnt to a crisp. It was like ash. Lol. The prawn cocktail was so stale and rubbery you could bounce it off the floor. $170+tip for 2 drinks, 2 entrees and an appetizer & side. I'd pay this for quality which was completely missing in this case. The one star is for the scenery alone. Dining experience would get zero. Disappointing for sure. read more

For your trouble they also add a 20% gratuity to everything. Our sense is there are some super greedy and cheap owners behind the whole scene. Cabins in need of repair. Finally, can't prove it, but pretty sure they stole 2 of our jackets. The bright spot was the horseback riding. Great guides and drop dead gorgeous views. Bottom line: when you're charging these prices, your consumers are expecting four seasons service. You're not going to her that here. read more

We stayed 2 nights in the Family Suite. It was amazing with our two kids having their own beds and being upstairs. We ate dinner both nights and breakfast both mornings and I can't say enough about how great the service was and the food was amazing. Also desserts to die for. Highly highly recommend this place. This review is based on the overpriced restaurant. Absolutely not worth the trip from Moab. We had a terrible experience. Our waitress knew nothing about the menu, the service was very slow, we sent 2 entrees back (cold Wagu steak!), and the wine selection was subpar. Food was not "farm fresh". Ok, this is an expensive overnight stay. Maybe you can find a better stay for less money. But we found the place just "amazing" the kids loved it (petting zoo, complimentary pony rides, tennis court, pool, ping pong table). The river view is great (but the mountain view is even better in my opinion). Mojito at the pool was perfect. read more
