Overpriced and underrated property in a beautiful location. Really sad that the prices charged for the service, quality of rooms and cleanliness are completely misguided. Website is deceiving. Cobwebs in the room, wrinkled carpet, filthy pool deck and outdoor furniture falling apart to name some of the obvious shortcomings. I sent three emails ahead of time to the linked email on the website regarding hikes and suggestions etc. Never had one response. Beautiful resort. Quiet. Setting is tranquil. The entire staff is amazing. They treat each guest as though they are family. We came just for dinner. The service was impeccable. Our server folded my napkin while I was using the restroom -- a kind of attention to detail we've experienced at Michelin Star rated restaurants. He was very attentive throughout our meal. The trout was great; the chicken slightly dry but the skin was delicious and crispy. The Chardonnay was good, the red wine overpriced for what we got. I would think the bottle would be priced about the amount we paid for a glass. read more

We booked a room for one night (which they don't normally do, but they made an exception for us). The rate was $429 + tax and fees (?) and totaled $505. We expected extreme luxury for that price. We have both stayed at five start hotels in Aspen, Telluride and other places and had a very good idea of what we would be getting for that price. While this is normally far above our price range, we thought we would splurge for one night and pamper ourselves, maybe do some yoga, etc. We had been mountain biking all day and were filthy and in need of a hot tub soak. When we arrived and checked in, we pulled up to the Valet sign and there was no one in sight. We went in and found what appeared to be two very young employees behind the front desk. While the front desk clerk was very pleasant, she informed us that the hot tub was out of service until the following day. We were disappointed, but thought we could just relax by the pool or the river instead. No one offered to take our bags to our room. We were told we could pull up to the room, unload and go park the car in the parking lot (which was about a 10 minute walk from the room)! We got to our room and were completely shocked. We had stayed in more luxurious rooms at Best Westerns! The room was extremely small. The TV was on with the most horrible music (it wasn't even country and western, it was more like bad old spaghetti western music). The front door opened smack into one of the chairs at the little dinette set. The windows were large and offered great views of the valley, but because the blinds opened from the bottom up (instead of the top down) you could not have them opened and have any privacy at all. I went to take a shower and found that the bath tub and surround in this $500/nt. room was plastic! The fixtures were mis-matched and very low end, as were most of the finishes in the room. You could tell they attempted to make it "look" luxurious, but when you looked closely, you could see that everything was sub-standard. After I finished the shower, I found that the robes were located in a cabinet IN THE KITCHEN! I called the front desk and told her girl (presumably the one who checked us in) that we were apalled by discrepancy in the cost of the room vs. what we got for it. She offered to "upgrade" us to a river view room which was normally $100 / nt. more. I told her that unless it was drastically more luxurious than the room we were in, we weren't interested. She then, very graciously, offered to give us a refund and call a cabin hotel up the road to check their availability. We decided we would rather take our chance back in Moab. She emailed me a receipt for a full refund immediately and we left without having to hassle with going back to the front desk. Again, the front desk clerk was extremely accomodating, pleasant and helpful. The grounds are beautiful, but they have no business charging anything close to that rate for their rooms. Aside from the lack of privacy in the rooms with the blinds open, I would happily stay there for $175-200 / nt. and feel like I got my money's worth. We ended up staying at the Gonzo Inn in a poolside room for $150/nt. and were infinitely happier. We also had a great stay at the Stella Ruby Cottages several nights before. We would go back to either of those places in a heartbeat. read more

I wrote an extensive review of this spa after my husband and I spent our very disappointing honeymoon there. I see that it has been removed. Trust every negative review on this Yelp Page. I thought I was diplomatic about my review, citing both the good and the bad. I even read a response from the manager detailing some of my concerns and improvements they had made since my visit. When I went on Yelp to review the ranch before my wedding, I saw many positive reviews and was surprised when I actually got there. It was not at all what i had read about. Terrible food, service is lacking, outrageous prices including a pretentious rule of adding 18% gratuity to EVERY purchase with additional line for tip, and definitely not 5 stars. Now, I know why since I see that my original review is now missing. Beware of this ranch. It is in need of a major overhaul before it is worth the outrageous money they ask for a stay there. read more

Unfortunately we have had to cancel our travel plans due to a medical emergency. I have spoken to every other hotel we booked for our trip out west and they have been wonderful in understanding our situation. Sorrel River Ranch, however, told me that no cancellation would be accepted without a doctors note. I just left my third message for Sorrel River Ranch's manager and hopefully I will get a response. My fellow yelpers are "trippin" on this one. The Sorrel River Ranch has the nicest setting of any hotel in america. It is utterly beautiful. Cowboy sunsets against the red rock and a slowly flowing river while you rock back and forth on your swing in front of your room. The rooms are large, clean and spacious. No details are left to chance. As far as the price I can see where people are upset. The Sorrel River Ranch has the market cornered on luxury hotels in the Moab area. They are the equivalent of the gas station next to the airport rental car return. That being said, I don't think it's outrageously priced at all. The views and the activities make this place worth the price. If you are just stopping in to sleep while you go do other stuff, then it is overpriced. If you take advantage of all the hotel guided activities then it's well worth it. read more

Does not deserve the stars new management has ruined this place sourly front desk . For the 5 star price they should have more than one bar of soap in room and towels are damp they corrrected soap but why have to ask?? they are not dog friendly as advertised. I could go on and on about the dog problems but won't. suffice to say don't bring your dog. It says it has room service and they have the menus in the room but they do not know how to do room service at all. (had to do it because the dog can't be left alone in the room..their rules). great views but you can get that at red rock and get nice service, and pleasant people. the dinner was good at the restaurant and the help there was nice. So was the bartender. At breakfast they ran out of bananas and orange juice. This is nit pickey but if you charge what they charged, they have back it up with service. read more

The setting is 5+ stars, but the service is staggeringly awful. I had 6 rooms averaging $700/nt and we were all stunned by the consistently poor service. From the moment we checked in and wanted to change to room assignments within our group only to be told that the front desk representative 'spent a lot of time getting the rooms assigned'. We were told the rooms would be ready in a half hour. An hour later they were still making excuses. Four of us went to their restaurant which is set on the river. Truly breathtaking. We ordered off the lunch menu. 45 minutes later, the waiter was explaining that the sausages in two of our orders were taking longer to cook (they were frozen). When we finally got our lunch, the sausages were cold and raw in the middle. The 'Ploughman's Lunch' was pathetic. Several of my colleagues had the same experience that I did with my room - housekeeping only made beds and failed to remove room service dishes and did not service the bathrooms. Service in the restaurants was frustratingly and consistently slow, yet dinner and drinks for five of us was $1,000. I spoke to two different European visitors who were expressing frustrations and disappointments during their stay. I hope that the relatively new ownership learns that the beautiful setting is not enough to keep guests coming back when service is so poor and prices are so high. read more

I had such a fantastic and relaxing experience at Sorrel River Ranch this week! It was an incredible experience! Such a refreshing balance of relaxation and new adventures! My favorite part was touring the garden. Daniel and Melissa were so kind to stop what they were doing to show me all around the garden. I learned so much about growing fresh produce that go straight to the local restaurant! They were both so kind and fun! The restaurant experience was equally as wonderful! I had a delightful, banana bread French toast for breakfast the next day. Delicious! My server, Cassidy was so kind and funny! Although I dined alone, she made me feel so at home and welcomed. This place is right on the Colorado River, huge cliffs -- all the best scenery for a movie. In fact, we got turned away from a Hollywood production company 2 miles up river. Security Guard didn't speak English, Japanese or French.-- so much for him. Sorrel River Ranch bills itself as a Hotel and Spa Resort, but it sure looked like a dude ranch to me. Indeed, we saw several real dudes. Also there were many horses in the corral out front. I recognize only two kinds of horses, (1) Budweiser Clydesdales and (2) all the others. These were not Clydesdales so my guess is that they had something to do with the name Sorrel River Ranch, etc. As we got close to the main ranch building, a sign said "Caution 1/4 Horse Crossing." This prompted me to wonder what they did with the rest of the horse. Inside, we were greeted with considerable kindness and escorted to the dining room upstairs. We chose a table on the verandah, overlooking the river less than 20 feet away -- red rock walls rising just beyond the far riverbank. Lunch menu included sandwiches -- ordered Reubens with fried string yams. Very good food. Water good too. Tab for 2 about $25. read more

We stayed here for 1 night and paid $400+tax/fees. We were expecting nothing but LUXURY ... Especially coming from the Enchantment Resort in Sedona which was CHEAPER and made us feel like royalty. This place is a far cry from $400/night... The remodeled motel6 is swankier and more luxurious than this place! We checked in, they have no valet, no bellman... We were told we could pull up in front of our building and unload, then go park the car in the gravel lot down the way. So we made it to our room, a tiny tiny room facing the pool and housekeeping building... Definitely no view worth the price. The room had a sour smell that was particularly reminiscent of dead rodent... I called the front desk to see if we could change rooms. The smell and proximity to the pool was not good. We asked for a room facing the river, and lucked out that one was available. The upgrade charge was waived because it was 10pm and the staff had all gone home. The river rooms have 2 queen beds. The tv was on and the music playing from it was horrible cheesy western music... Think Cracker Barrel ho dunk party music.... Everything in the room was oversized. There was a 4ft cowboy boot on top of the mantle, the bedposts were very distracting - about 5ft tall logs on all 4 posts (imagine what this looks like on 2 queen beds in a cramped room. One of the bedposts was directly in front of the tv. There was only basic cable... Crappy channels, fuzzy picture... Also, no room service. The only food options were eating in their restaurant or filling out a checklist of food that the front desk could have ready for you (you'd have to pick it up). The coffee maker in the room was dirtier and crappier than one you'd find in a best western or comfort inn. The worst was the dead rat smell. Even worse than the first room, and the smell was blowing out of the house floor and wall vents. The entire bathroom smelled like dead rodent... We kept the door closed and blocked off the air vents... SO GROSS!! When we checked out we told the person at the front desk about the rat smell, hoping for some sort of refund or an apology... But all we got was "oh, ok I'll tell housekeeping"... As if he already knew about that problem (perhaps the reason he comped our room upgrade in the first place?) OVERALL = NOT WORTH IT! read more

I was so excited to visit this highly marketed resort/ranch on our first-time visit to Moab. It sounded so fabulous in the advertisements and on their website. I had hoped to stay there, but the over $900 room rate with a 2-night minimum was out of our budget so we decided to instead have dinner there as a special occasion for my birthday. It was a long, winding road to drive to the resort, but the 21 miles was stunning as we drove just below the red rocks of Arches National Park. The resort too could not be at a more gorgeous location with stunning red cliffs surrounding the property, along with the slow swirling Colorado River just steps away. When we drove up to Valet, there was no person around to park our car, so we self-parked. A hostess was very friendly in greeting us and took us to the main resort area. This area was rustic and not nearly as elegant as anticipated. We arrived early to have time for a cocktail in the main room overlooking the river. The first thing I noticed was the lack of attention to detail. The windows looking out over the river were spotted and streaked. The cocktail crystal glass my drink was served in had water spots on the foot of the glass. And, there were many flies fluttering around landing here and there on our table, including one beating me to my martini olive before I could get there. After drinks, we went to the second floor for dinner. The wine by the glass list had little to choose from and nothing of interest for such a pricy restaurant so we passed. I ordered trout, my husband had a very large bone-in pork chop. We were further disappointed when our food arrived. My trout dish had absolutely zero flavor, no sauce and although cooked properly, it was tasteless. We ordered a side of creamy polenta and it came full of lumps, and again flavorless. My husband's pork was cooked to his liking and he enjoyed that dish. His green beans on the other hand could not be cut with a fork as they were practically raw. Again, a number of flies were present. The server came back well after the proper time to check on guests and at that point I sent back my entree. She apologized. Then, related that the day before one of the corporate vice president's had visited the resort and sent his food back too, remarking that "the dish had no flavor." During our time there, we observed at least two other tables near us where the customers were complaining about the food quality and saw things being sent back. My entree was removed from the final check. The manager on duty never came over to discuss or apologize for the meal. We were approached as we were leaving by a front desk agent who was sympathetic after we explained what had occurred. In retrospect, I am glad that we did not book a room at this property because based on what I saw, we would have been further disappointed and out a tremendous amount of money. This is a very family-oriented resort with lots of children running around, and very casual attire in the restaurant. With an average bill of $150 for 2 guests, this was not the experience we were expecting. We will not be returning to dine at this overly priced property again. It is too bad as the resort definitely has potential, but it was clear staff had not been trained properly and the pricing structure does not match luxury and expectations. read more

This place is perfection on the Colorado river! Beautiful resort with delicious food, friendly staff, tons of activity options and lots of fun activities for kids! (Feeding the animals at the farm, rafting, swimming, western riding lessons, trail rides, pony rides for little ones, s'mores, the list goes on!) The location is beautiful and there is so much potential. Unfortunately during our stay at 5-star prices, a 5-star experience was not on offer. The facility is in desperate need of some TLC - refurbishments and upgrades to the grounds and the accommodations. The staff was all very pleasant but there were varying degrees of professionalism and attention to detail, which created confusion on the hefty administrative fees that were charged for arranging activities - this was in addition to the resort fee. This was a first for me. The food I had was good but expensive and no meals were included with the nightly rate. In general my biggest issue was value - I expected more for what I paid. Their rates are comparable to top hotels in the world, but the product isn't. read more

My dad and I went on a "follow the guide" UTV tour on Onion Creek Trail. Our guides name was Cedar and he was extremely knowledgeable about the geography of the area. He told us about the significance and names of the many rock formations near the ranch. It was very fun getting to drive off road in Moab. Cedar was very helpful in getting me prepared to take on the trail. We enjoyed the off roading that Sorrel provides so much that we already booked a "ride with the guide" Jeep tour of Hell's Revenge. I strongly recommend Cedar to be your guide on these trail tours. read more

The setting and views from our river front cabin were unsurpassed. This place is a true spot to relax at. Unfortunately the food from the restaurant was not good and overpriced. I gave this rating based on the $400 per night charge. Great setting which is probably the best in Moab but the level of service was below par. The restaurant food was delicious and dinner is worth the trip to the resort but breakfast was average. The "state of the art" exercise room is a universal gym...really?!? This is a nice property but it is not worth the premium price...you are better off staying in town. I'm trying to figure out what they offer that any other place couldn't. Great room service...no. River float trips...no. Meals included in the room rate...no. Exclusive use of hiking trails, river access, park entry....no. The rooms are okay but our couch had a slip cover on it for gosh sakes! This is a sprawling property located in a remote area about 30 minutes from the town of Moab. It has sweeping views of the river, and the mountains beyond. The area is quiet and relaxing. They have 15 horses, a spa, a nightly campfire and two tennis courts. We paid about $700/night for our room. The entire staff is upbeat, friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. Amber at the front desk took our reservation and could not have been more chipper about the resort's amenities. She was delightful. Conner seemed to work 24/7 and wears so many different hats at the resort...from rooms manager to a last-minute room service waiter! He was a doll...making sure guests were always happy. The massage therapist (I forget her name) was fantastic (ask for her "push therapy") and the young female wrangler (I also forget her name! Maybe Kelly?) was also terrific..so professional, upbeat and easy-going. The waiters were all friendly and the garden employees were super-nice and knowledgeable! So here is the one not-so-great thing about Sorrel. It is terribly understaffed. We waited almost an hour to get our dinner, and it arrived cold. At the spa, there was no front desk attendant, nor locker room attendant. For a $300 spa service, a guest expects more than a deserted spa with only the masseuse present. There are only a few spa items to buy-and no one there to sell them. The "activities office", which apparently sells souvenirs and schedules activities, was never staffed and the door was always locked. The front desk staff apparently fills the void, but then why have an "activities" area? At a remote location like this, having a full staff is crucial. The employees are great...there just aren't enough of them. Guests don't have any other options for dining besides the hotel. All activities are run through the hotel. Guests really spend a lot of time at the hotel. So, the hotel has to be able to take care of guests properly. Conner, Amber and the rest of the employees are phenomenal at their jobs...but they can't be everywhere! read more

This place was not a great experience for us. The views are amazing and the rooms are nice, but the service is very slow and not very well trained. We had them do some of are laundry and they stole half of are clothes and said that that was all we gave them. The restaurant took a hour and half to get breakfast when there was only 4 tables with guests at them. It's also 30 min outside of Moab which was a long hike to get to all the stuff we wanted to do. The Sorrel River Ranch and Spa is beautiful but they missed the mark. We stayed for 4 nights to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Overall the staff didn't seem happy or "customer focused". The property has SUCH potential but the staff is not well trained or cared for and it shows. With some attention to detail from the owner (and staff) this resort could be AMAZING--instead I would think twice about booking. We really wanted to love this place. Here's the good: --amazing location on the Colorado River (think location, location, location) --room was well appointed --dining room and bar have an unbeatable view The not so good: -- Food was adequate at best--both dishes over cooked (fish and beef) Table next to us had to send back their "raw" chicken. When our "server" asked how we were enjoying our salads and we said, "well, they are rather gritty", his response was "oh" and he walked away. Really inexperienced staff in the dinning room and food was marginal at best. Staying for 4 nights, we ate 3 nights at the hotel and when I inquired about the possibility of getting a hamburger (not on the menu) I was told the chef would be happy to make one but the owner didn't allow it....(seriously???) --Apparently in October they only have one dining room operational (we weren't told they closed their more casual restaurant until we asked about other dinning options). Would have been helpful to know prior to booking as the hotel is 20 miles from any other options. --On Saturday, we returned to our room at 4 pm and it still wasn't cleaned. I had to go to the front desk and ask for housekeeping to service the room. No apology or surprise at the room not being serviced. Beautiful setting and best place to stay in Moab as far as I can tell, but overpriced and understaffed during winter. Sorrel River has large comfortable rooms and they are well appointed. I especially liked having the kitchenette in the room (we had a 2-level suite). It is off season, so it's running on a skeleton staff, but even so, the restaurant service was incredibly slow. It literally took an hour to receive a pancake breakfast, and dinner was painfully slow. They must have been killing the animals out back. The waiter was bit dense too about the long waits. He could have at least brought out some bread or something, since they do have the bread plates set out there. He acted annoyed, like we should have told him earlier that we wanted bread. Nina, the breakfast server, was great, however. We were there during the holidays, so maybe that was one of the reasons we felt underserved, but they're still charging more than $400 per night and the food prices in the restaurant are still exorbitant, so really it shouldn't be a valid excuse. Also, it is very cold in the main lodge during the winter; all the windows make it hard to keep warm and all the staff members wear their coats inside as well. If you're playing yourself up as a spa and resort and charging those sky high prices, you have to up your game. read more

A pricey place. Our room was advertised as "mountain view." After arriving (and paying nonrefundably), it turned out to be more of a "driveway and trees view" (see attached photo). The "mountain view" was the main reason we were willing to pay so much money! After we complained, and some stalling on the part of the person behind the desk ("I have to ask X for permission"), they moved us to a "river view" room whose view is very nice indeed (see second photo). That was much appreciated, but an offer to use one of their little carts or otherwise to help us move our stuff would have been nice, as well. read more

I disagree with the negative reviews I have read, except I do agree that the food prices are indeed too high. I wish they would offer a children's menu. The setting of this lodge is stunning. We stayed in a two level family suite, and have previously stayed in a regular room. Many of the rooms overlook beautiful vistas of red rock formations and the river. I didn't go to Moab to watch tv, although my children did use the tv on one afternoon and we found it perfectly adequate. The rooms are atmospheric and wonderful, with very comfortable beds, spacious bathroom, and a front porch with a rocker. It is indeed a 20/25 minute drive to Moab, but this drive is spectacular. My children enjoyed horseback riding, roaming the property, and nightly campfire with s'mores supplies provided by the front desk. All the employees were very nice though perhaps not as trained as you might find at a 4 seasons. We loved Sorrel River and intend to return. read more

Reviewers who highlight the beauty of the setting and willingness of the staff are spot on but neither make up for managerial short-comings and lack of investment in the property. Sorrel River Ranch wants to pitch itself as a luxury resort but, despite its glorious setting and attractive appearance, it fails to deliver. My husband and I, along with our pet retriever Maisie, stayed four nights in mid-September. In total, we spent around four thousand dollars, as we took in a massage and an escorted hike. The place could be magnificent but isn't. Staff are enthusiastic but there aren't enough of them. On two occasions, a breakfast waiter one day doubled as a room cleaner the next. There is a distinct feeling that in some areas the staff are not trained for the roles they're fulfilling. A couple of notable exceptions are Tom on the front desk and Evan who works on the Adventure Tours side, both are excellent. The website is out of date and includes menu items that according to staff have not been an option for months. Don't go looking for Tapas in the bar, you won't find it. The spa is clean, although small, but the prices for treatments are high, especially if tipping on top of the 20% service charge they apply "for your convenience". Sorrel River Ranch reminds me of the 20-year-old Bentley my friend drives. It looks great, is comfortable when you first get in and ought to be an uplifting experience. But, something at its core is misfiring and while waiting for the owner to invest in upgrading parts, the ride is a bit too bumpy and something of a let down. read more

The rating on this location must be upgraded immediately. We loved this place in every way. I have seriously expensive taste in food and accommodation and I am Iwell travelled but I am also fun and down to earth. This ranch is magical, the staff was awesome, it was low-key and they treated my dogs like family. Every request was granted. The suite river front rooms were beyond awesome with kitchen things, decent coffee, lovely tub, high pressure shower, giant toasty bed, porch swing and fireplace. Dinner was fab! We had local wines, truffle fries, salad, lamb chops! Loved it. My dogs got to meet the horses, walk to river, cruise the property. The owners brought us dog bowls and cute fluffy dog beds. Love this place even more than enchantment in Sedona and more than some if the most expensive hotels in the world that I've been too- it's a real place with very nice things but I felt at home and not in snooty environment despite the niceness. My wife and I stayed at the ranch to celebrate a special birthday in July 2015. This place could be spectacular but sadly it falls significantly short. I will start with the good part; The location/scenery is awesome. If you stay here, get a river view room! Hanging out on the porch or balcony with a cup of coffee or adult beverage is very relaxing & you can't beat the view of the Colorado River and canyon bluffs. There are some free activities for active adults and kids. Tennis courts, basketball, bike riding around the ranch (assuming you brought bikes). I think they may have a free yoga session and a guided hike (we did not participate). They do bonfires at night, and the star gazing in incredible. Some of the artwork in the lodge and around the ranch is beautiful. There are horses, bunnies, goats, miniature horses, and such to look at if you like farm animals. The rooms are spacious and the decor is good (not great). There are claw foot rubs with jacuzzi jets. The food is good (but not great). The service overall is good, but not great. We had 5 star service from Shelby the bartender, the cleaning crew and the guy that helped with our bags. Although we didn't bring our children, there were plenty of children/teens around and they seemed to be having a good time. Our "neighbors" had dogs. The dogs seemed to be having a good time chasing the geese. The French fries were awesome. The drive from Moab to the ranch is beautiful. The pool has wet water. The tap water tastes ok. The farm animals sort of cooperated during photo shoots : ) That rounds out the good part. Now the bad part; This place is expensive, which we knew going in. We expected a full on 5 star experience. In other words, we didn't expect to lift a finger around the pool. Unfortunately, the service around the pool was terrible, but all food and drink prices at the pool included a generous gratuity. So, although the beer and wine list was quite adequate, on days 2 and 3 we brought our own beer and wine to the pool. Other people around the pool were doing the same. If the service were 5 stars (like at the Shelbourne in Miami) we might have just rolled with the high prices. After this experience at the pool, we were prepared for a similar experience at dinner. Thankfully it was a little better. I did enjoy the atmosphere. The decor, high ceilings, and views were spectacular. The wait staff was more attentive, and very polite, but not very knowledgable regarding the menu. The menu itself is very limited. 1 appetizer, 5 salads, 5 entrees, no specials. We didn't look at the desert menu. My wife had a wedge salad & pork tenderloin dish. I had a kale salad and ribeye. It was all good, but not great. The wine list was adequate. Same beer list as at the pool. Cocktail options were typical. Overall not worth the price paid. The grounds around the ranch were in good condition but not great. pictures on yelp from 6 years ago show that the grounds were in better condition then than they are now. For the amount of money you pay, and considering that their irrigation comes right from the river, the place should have been immaculate. I offered to do some weed eating but they thought I was just kidding around : ) We did not try any of the spa treatments or participate in any ranch lead activities. We did early AM self guided hiking tours at Arches and Canyon Lands instead. So, in the end, if you want a really nice place to stay near Moab with great views, that is family friendly, and you have plenty of money, this might be a good place for you to stay. If you are a horse lover and plan to do a lot of riding, and this is your passion, and you have plenty of money, maybe this place is ideal. If you are a foodie expecting great things, look elsewhere. If you are in the mood to splurge, and expecting value, look elsewhere. It looks like they will be opening a higher end hotel in downtown Moab within a few months. I think that sort of place probably offers better value to foodie hikers like my wife and I. We may do that instead if we decide to return to Moab in a few years. 3 stars. Sorrel River Ranch Resort is in a beautiful setting on the Colorado River and the staff is very friendly and they really try to make your stay comfortable. This resort is extremely pricey and it's not worth what they charge. It's a little run down for the amount of money per night you will pay to stay here. I see so much repair work that needs to be done and there should be a crew that constantly is working to keep the grass mowed. The flowers boxes in front of the room should be full of flowers. Instead they are falling apart with just 3 tiny plants. Our room stayed warm, TV was a joke and internet service was spotty. The resort isn't worth what we paid and I would never come back at these prices. read more

My sisters and I went to Moab for a small bachelorette weekend. We visited over the 4th of July weekend to treat my sister to a massage. We showed up on Saturday at about noon and when we arrived it didn't look busy at all. We pulled up and the staff wasn't very welcoming. They met my sister where she was taken to get her massage in a building where she was the only guest in the building. We got her the the relaxation massage that runs $195 for 50 minuets. My sister and I planned on getting lunch while we waited. As we went in to get food, the concierge stated we were not allowed to use any of the accommodations except sitting in the waiting room, even though we were paying customers of a service they were providing (even though when we booked they said we could eat there). After we sat for a hour we met with my sister who was visibly upset. She was in pain and received the worst massage she's ever gotten. Overall rate this place 2/10, it looks nice but we had a horrible time. read more

Sorrel River Ranch is the most wonderful place to spend a week in September. This is just like combining Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, and Zion together in your own private canyon. Our room was excellent, and 50yds from the Colorado river. Every detail of the Ranch/Resort is first class! From the pool, the horses, the food, the free ranging goats, chickens, pigs, rabbits, and deer. Our ride on horses took us to the base of Castle Rock and huge Monuments. The Ranch is situated in a valley surrounded by huge Monuments and unique Pinnacles. Red rock mountains surround in every direction. Every bit worth the money! Wonderful people that work here, always ready to assist in any way. This is our new favorite place, and we will be back next year for sure. 10 stars! Not one complaint, nothing but praise for this amazing piece of Heaven on Earth.... read more

We (husband, wife and two school-age boys) recently stayed here for one week. I read through the reviews and want to comment on a few things: 1. Valet. They must have read the reviews because the valet service was excellent. Doors opened for us upon arrival. One person accompanied us to our room and carried the luggage in. They answered our questions clearly. There was plenty of help outside this, getting water for our hikes or umbrellas for us at the pool. (We visited in June, not in the off-season when staffing is lighter.) 2. Food: Our family has a complicated diet. I am vegan, my husband does not eat red meat, and one son has a long list of allergies. They have two restaurants and although the menu seemed to be limited when you read it, they were incredibly flexible in accommodating all of us. On top of that, the food was EXCELLENT. Perhaps they hired a new chef? Every single thing we ordered was fabulous, and the greens and broccolini (from the garden) were NOT overcooked. The flavors for all the dishes were fabulous. We ate here for almost all meals but we didn't try the box lunches so I can't comment on those. The food isn't fast service - allow about an hour for a meal - but the food was really delicious and the servers very friendly and nice. 3. Concierge: They have a concierge to help book trips and the one we worked with was really great. We enjoyed white water rafting, horseback riding, and rock climbing. There is a complementary guide who will take you hiking on the extensive ranch grounds, which we used. We went to the National Parks (and the State Park), and the concierge recommended sites to see and that we not hire a guide for those (unless we really felt we needed one). 4. Activities: There is plenty to do here, so we spent much time at the Ranch. The setting is more beautiful than I can describe (I felt like I was in an upscale Western!) and the salt water pool lovely (with poolside meal service, etc.). At night, they have a bonfire and s'mores and they often have live music outside along the river. I didn't try the Spa but my husband got a massage. He is very particular and said it was excellent. They have seats in front of the river so if you don't have a river view room (which is more expensive), it is easy to sit and enjoy the river. They have plenty of games and really nice places to sit and play them. 5. Location: It is a lovely 30 minute drive into Moab, and about the same time to Arches. slightly longer to Canyonlands. We loved it so much that we will back for sure. read more
