JoJo’s Tastes of Chicago - The crust is fantastically firm, enough to be able to pick it up and eat it like a proper piece of pizza. It's just unbelievably good!

Being a Chicago native, I'm always interested when a restaurant advertises "Chicago" food…read more Particularly Italian Beef. What I've come to realize is that most places advertising this don't have a clue what real Chicago food is. They are merely imposters trading on a name. Jo-Jo's is different. They are a master-class in producing some of the finest Chicago staples outside of the Windy City itself. Friendly staff, cold beer (soft drinks too!) and amazingly authentic Chicago fare. Thanks, Jo-Jo's!

So when I ordered from JoJo's while vacationing in Daytona Beach, my expectations were... let's just say cautiously pessimistic. Beach town pizza has burned me before. Chicago-esque places outside of Chicago have broken my heart more times than I care to admit. I was not prepared for what happened next. The woman on the phone was an absolute delight -- warm, upfront, and honest that the kitchen was slammed and our order would be about 50 minutes. No problem. We're in vacation mode. Island time. We'll take a walk on the beach and meet you there. We ordered a large thin crust, a big Italian beef wet/sweet with a side of jus, and a personal deep dish for good measure. When we arrived for pickup, the place was hopping -- buzzing with energy and the kind of vibe that makes you wish you'd planned to eat in. And then we tasted the food. Holy. Cow. This is the best Chicago-style pizza and Italian beef I have ever had outside of Chicago -- and I'll go further than that -- it's better than places I've actually eaten in Chicago. The thin crust was perfect. The beef was phenomenal. The deep dish? Don't even get me started. JoJo's didn't just meet the bar. They cleared it completely. We will absolutely be ordering again on our next trip to Daytona. Consider this a standing reservation.

On the meatball sub, there was zero cheese and the marinara sauce was burnt. How do you burn marinara sauce? On the steak and cheese sub, there was no deli mustard, and NO CHEESE. Seriously, no cheese on a steak and cheese? We ordered mushrooms instead of peppers. There was approximately four tiny slices of canned mushrooms on the entire sub. We also ordered a bowl of chicken and dumpling soup. We paid for a bowl but actually got a cup. The soup had nothing in it but broth and a few very very very tiny pieces of dumpling. Aside from having no substance, it literally tasted like chemicals. We never write reviews. That's how bad this was. Never again.

I guess that this has to do with the firefighters that started this company. I opted for what I believe was called a New York Steamer. Corned beef, pastrami and cheese. The sandwich itself was not bad, though a bit expensive. For four of us, all of us getting a sub combo, the total was over sixty dollars. Service was friendly and this location is located in a strip mall, so shopping was not an issue. If you are a traveler just looking for a quick meal, this Firehouse Subs is not far off of interstate 95, which will allow you to get off of Interstate 95, get a quick meal and be back on the road in no time flat. All in all, I would recommend here.

The wedding was beautiful. We had approx 120 guests (seated) using the boathouse and tent (with walls) and there was enough room for everyone and an area for a dance floor (this was actually my biggest concern when booking this venue because it appears to be on the small side). The boathouse has a new beautiful pier/dock and many of my guests were able to watch a pod of dolphins swim around (got some great pics of them) along with a super nice sunset. The only thing I would have done differently is that I would have hired golf cart drivers so that the elderly guests wouldn't have had to walk so far from the ceremony site and parking lot (no biggy, we used a car). Had no issues with neighbors, in fact some of the neighbors sat on the porch to watch the ceremony, which I thought was really cool. The neighborhood does have a curfew of 11pm, so our reception ended at 9:30pm. I was okay with this because I was actually pretty tired by then. A huge plus is that the boathouse is available at 8:00am. So we were able to begin decorating early. I couldn't have been happier with The historic Wilbur Boathouse!
