10 out of 10 amazing food! I ordered the chicken breast, and sweet potato mini waffle, and my son ordered the mini waffles, peach cobbler and strawberry. I wish I would have remembered to take pictures because the mini waffles were gorgeous! We met one of the owners out and about in town, and heard others approach him and complement the restaurant which is what prompted us to visit in the first place, hearing his passion for food and describing the menu made my son adamantly insist we go asap! I highly recommend the sweet potato mini waffle. It tasted like Thanksgiving and it was the best chicken breast I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned and perfect texture! Fried chicken was so crispy and delicious, mini waffles were the best I've ever had in my life. I didn't even need syrup because the cream and topping were so perfect it melts in your mouth and pairs perfectly with the fried chicken. I also got Mac N' Cheese which was also so yummy! I have been seeing the posts and reviews for Hill's and decided I was having lunch Saturday. My husband had a waffle. It was golden brown and looked delicious. (No, he didn't offer me a bite) I had fried chicken legs with two sides. I chose the candied yams and greens. Every single thing was definitely worth the wait. Fresh fried chicken, made to order. Service was great and refills were plenty. From now on, this is going to be my go to for chicken. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. You won't be disappointed. If you like family restaurants, they have you covered. Decorated so cute with family pictures and comfortable seating. Had the food for the first time today. The chicken was okay but the sides were not edible. Ordered fries and they were nothing but mush. But oddly enough they looked burnt. Really dark colored. Made me wonder if they were fried in very old grease and definitely not cooked through. Who ever made it probably thought they were done because of the color. The cornbread dressing was even worse. Tastes nothing like cornbread and again it was disappointing. If you order from here I recommend to skip the sides. I can't see my wife and i ordering this again. read more

What a gem in the neighborhood, this warm and welcoming restaurant is a must try if you love delicious home cooking. The family and staff are so welcoming, the interior is warm and inviting and you'll totally feel at home. I think I had a good sampling of what's coming hot out of the kitchen during my first visit but I can't wait to come back and try more. We tried the fried chicken and the fried pork-chop and let me tell you both were amazing and the sides of black-eye peas and cornbread dressing (cornbread dressing is only offered on Friday and Saturdays) tasted like I was dining at my mom's table, I am convinced all the sides will be just as good, I asked our server what sides I should try and after a moment she came back with definitely the black-eye peas and she was right. My socks were immediately knocked off by the warm welcome and impeccable customer service! What a treat to feel like I was dining amongst genuine people who cared about my dining experience! The owners greeted us and chatted a bit about the family-style restaurant established in loving memory of the matriarch of the family. While we were there, several people from the community came to dine. Everyone seemed as if they were at ease. This is clearly a favorite local establishment! I'm reminded of the theme song for a show from the 80's called "Cheers".... "sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name & they're always glad you came". Walking in the door you can feel the story and after speaking with Chris the owner I learned all about his family and the restaurant being a tribute to his mother which their recipes have come from. It was time for dinner on a Friday night and my adult children and I were craving some comfort food. I'd read a lot of good things about this place, and heard that they had some of the best fried chicken and oxtails in the area, so we drove the 30+ miles to check it out and we were NOT at all disappointed. The location is in a humble strip mall in Edgewater, Florida. A place that you would drive by a thousand times and never know of the little gem that sits within. We were directed to sit wherever we wanted by a server who almost immediately brought us menus and took our drink orders. Now I'm not usually big on sweet tea, but when I'm about to tuck into some southern comfort food, I always check it out if it's offered. The tea was properly brewed, ice cold and perfectly sweet! As we perused the menu, it became obvious that coming on Friday was a good call as they only serve certain dishes on the weekend...and who doesn't want cornbread dressing and black eyed peas any time they're available?? As we sat and enjoyed our drinks, we noticed that the other patrons were very happy with their food and that the vibe was very laid-back...comfortable...almost like eating at home. When it came time to order, Kid #1 and I ordered the Chicken & Waffle with 3 wings, then ordered an extra thigh on the side. I got the black eyed peas and cornbread dressing for my sides, he did the black eyed peas and collard greens. Kid #2 ordered the Chicken & Waffle Sliders with the baked mac & cheese as their side. Now, not only do you get to choose your main and sides at this point, but another decision is placed before you that will definitely have an impact on your meal...and that's what kind of waffle you want with your food. From Plain to Pecan, from Sweet Potato to Red Velvet, the selection wasn't made easy, but I went with Plain for my first visit. After placing our orders, one of the owners came by to ask us if it was, indeed, our first visit. When we told him that it was, he smiled and said "It won't be your last!"...he wasn't wrong! Very soon, our server brought our plates to the table and the first thing that struck me was the size of the wings! These were whole chicken wings, fried to the perfect golden color and steaming hot! The thigh was boneless and similarly fried to perfection as were the breasts inside the Kid's sliders. Everyone got into trying their sides, which we passed around so that everyone could taste everything. That cornbread dressing was divine! Just a bit sweet and incredibly delicious! The Kid's collard greens were exceptional, with just enough of the pot liquor (IYKYK) to keep them juicy, and Kid #2's mac & cheese was really good. The waffles were absolutely delicious...light, fluffy, a little crispy with just the right amount of sweetness. But let's talk about that chicken! Folks, thanks to the US military, I have had the very good fortune to eat around the world, and I've had fried chicken all over the place! From Willie Mae's in NOLA to Stroud's in KCMO to Gus's in the ATL...and this right here was some of the best EVER! The pieces were hot, juicy, crispy and SO delicious! It got really quiet around our table as we got into the serious business of eating this incredible food! When the owner came back by to check on us, we couldn't tell him enough how much we were enjoying our experience. And as our dinner continued, it became obvious that we would be taking some of this food home as we were unable to eat everything in that seating! Alas, as with all good things, our dinner came to an end, and as we prepared to leave, we assured the server and the owners that we will definitely return. As our family likes to travel to eat, upon occasion we stumble across a place that's really special. Not just a place to eat, but a place to connect with those who truly love and respect the food that they serve. Hill's Chicken and Waffles is one of those places. I came in for the first time to grab takeout. I've heard rave reviews in local Facebook groups and had to give it a shot. Super cute and clean smelling interior. Lots of seating. My mom and I were greeted by the owner's father and we talked to him and one of the owners while waiting for our food. They were both adorable and told us how they opened the place in honor of their mother. We ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of Mac and cheese to share. The food was so hot it burned our laps on the way home (GOOD thing!) We got home and tore it UP! There was plenty for two for a light lunch and some leftover for a snack later. The mac n cheese was the best I've ever had. The chicken was cooked perfectly, still moist inside with a slightly spicy crunchy outer layer. I expected average waffles, but they were so sweet and soft they balanced the spice of the chicken perfectly! I will be bringing everyone I know to Hill's Chicken & Waffles.
