Came in for lunch on a Thursday as we had a coupon for $2 off EACH entree. Good coupon and a good reason to give them a try. Unfortunately, there was an overwhelming smell of either cleaner or paint when we enteredand sat down. We asked our server about the smell but she was unaware. Anyway, we stayed, were sat at a nice booth by the bar and ordered our food. I ordered a San Diego Philly ($15.99) since our server said she was "currently obsessed " by this hoagie. It came with one side so I chose the onion rings. The onion rings were thin with a thin breading. Quite good but the Phillywas a bit on the small size. The Mrs ordered the Chicken Salad Croissant and side Soup ($13.99) and good size sandwich and a piping hot New England Clam Chowder. I got the mandarin orange vinaigrette - try it! So good. Our waitress, Ashley, was sweet, attentive, and very helpful with my gluten allergy. They have a separate GF menu that's small but it has variety- fish, chicken, and beef options so no complaints here. Depending on how severe an allergy you have, there's probably other items off the main menu for some people. The manager, Chris, seemed to know nearly everyone dining, even calling them by name. My husband and I stopped at San Diego Grille for dinner. The music was great (70's) and the atmosphere was pleasing. We ordered a beverage each. I had a white sangria which was delicious! Danielle was our server and was always attentive and so friendly. Hubby had shrimp piccata with a side of the absolute best onion rings we've ever tasted. Went back to San Diego Grill with my neighbor and my cousin from Georgia. We've been there many times and today was great as always. Luke seated us promptly, not always easy with me and my walker. Excellent service. We sat at the bar had some cocktails and appetisers for lunch we had there mushroom soup which was very good and hot not too spicy just the right amount of pepper for lunch. We had the steak fajitas and for once the onions were done absolutely perfect. I only complaint was the guacamole it had way way way too many onions and very little Avocado. My wife had the chicken salad on a croissant which she was only planning to eat half, but it was so good. She ate the whole thing now we have to figure out lunch for tomorrow. Went to San Diego Grill for my wife's Mother's Day with my daughter's family.. My daughter ordered mahi-mahi which was under cooked and had to be sent back for more cooking. I ordered fried shrimp with sweet potato fries and house salad. Fries and salad were excellent but breading on shrimp came off with touching it. Son in law had mahi-mahi which was cooked well, but onion rings batter had same problem as my shrimp. On the bright side, my wife ordered beef fajitas and said some of the best ever. San Diego Grill was the first restaurant we tried when visiting Port Orange in 2018. We retired here a year later, and it remains a favorite (I'm addicted to the Blackened Chicken Cheese and Nut Salad!). Always great friendly service too. I do have a small critique after today's visit. We came for breakfast with family visiting for the holidays. First time for us for breakfast here, and it mostly did not disappoint. Except my daughter, who ordered the Strawberry Waffle Combo. There was literally so much whipped cream covering the waffle that it was soggy and cold when she ate it. She didn't want to complain so didn't say anything until later. Rest of our meal was tasty though.
