I pride myself on knowing the new restaurants and which ones are the best across several categories. - Food, since this is a foodie group, so the food has to be complex and interesting and tasty and in terms of general palate pleasing and leaving us with the feeling that we will be back. - Service level. We all know that the service experience, when top notch, enhances the experience. - the uniqueness of the concept - is this a place, where visiting guests would love? So I have to admit that I am embarrassed that last night was my first time to go to BISTRO 424 with my partner in crime, fellow foodie, and lovely amazing wife Janie Skidmore Panasis who owns Janie's Boutique! We kept looking at each other and asking "how have we missed this place?" First off, the menu is colossal, and varied, but in our opinion, this is a bistro that has influences from Italy, and Germany or Poland maybe. The hostess was great and found us a table inside. Our server was Sydney and she was awesome. I ordered the lasagna ($20) and Janie ordered the eggplant Parmesan sandwich ($16) and both came with a side salad and we ordered with their popular lemon vinaigrette. The salads were huge, and fresh and the dressing tasted homemade and was perfect. Clean and crisp. Janie loved her sandwich and it was so much that she took half home. The lasagna...OMG, I asked the server to find out if they cooked it in the pizza oven, as it was presented as if it came out of a very hot cooking appliance. It turns out it did go in with the pizzas, and so the cheese on top was very lightly charred and sooo good. The combination of sausage and beef in the lasagna was complex and seasoned perfectly. The pasta and the cheese combined with the meat and Parmesan really set this dish off. Served steaming hot. This was the best lasagna that I have ever had. We will definitely be back. After hearing great things about Bistro 424, we tried it for the first time, and our party of four ranged from happy to extremely dissatisfied. It was cold by Florida standards, so we sat inside at a high-top table, where the cheap industrial metal stools need to be replaced with something more comfortable. We ordered dinner with very mixed results: Cobb salad: The fried shallots were beautiful, nice balance of ingredients. (Happiness) Crab stuffed mahi: Another hit. Pistachio crusted salmon. Meh- wouldn't order again. Chicken parmesan. An absolute disaster. The chicken was so severely overcooked to be inedible. The bread crumb crust was blackened to the point of being a solid, impenetrable shield. Had to search out the server to get her attention, and sent the meal back. She asked if I wanted something else, but I asked for another chicken parm cooked properly. It took a while, and I got another try at the chicken - still overcooked, still blackened, but this attempt was somewhat edible. I am not a fussy diner. I rarely send food back to the kitchen. On the rare occasion I have a problem and send something back, someone from the management team wanders by and inquires about the dining experience. That didn't happen at Bistro 424, leaving this review space as the only way to inform management of the significant problems in the kitchen. Final rating: two stars. Some of the food is excellent, but there are severe quality control issues when inedible food is allowed to leave the kitchen. Your experience will vary. read more

Bistro 424 is quickly becoming one of our favorite casual dining spots near home. I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal or drink here--and that says a lot considering we're currently here for the second time in three days. The servers are always attentive and friendly, and even when the restaurant is busy, the kitchen is clearly well run. Food comes out fresh and in a timely manner every single visit. Most recently, I tried the scampi special and WOW--soooo good. The sauce was absolutely to die for, so much so that I came back and asked if they could make it into a full meal (zero regrets). Other menu favorites for me are the poke appetizer, the meatballs, and the pizzas, which are truly chef's kiss every time. If you're looking for a consistently great meal, solid drinks, and a relaxed but quality dining experience in New Smyrna, Bistro 424 is a must. We'll definitely keep coming back. read more

YUM! Tanner, our waiter, answered all of our questions. He made great recommendations and everything was delicious. The house salad with a lemon vinaigrette was excellent - crisp and fresh. I had the Stromboli - barely put a dent in it - great crust using their pizza dough, and delicious sauce to dip. The leftovers will be two more lunches! My friend had the sorrento sandwich with fries which was very good. It's a lovely place - a bit hard to find without specific instructions- but we know how to get there now!!! read more

Dined in at Bistro once before, and it was great. So we thought we'd give the pizza kitchen a try for takeout and it did not disappoint. This mildly spicy Italian meat lovers pizza (The Soppressata Pizza) should be a mainstay on the menu. Lucky enough to catch it on the Weekend Specials Menu. We were there two weeks ago and the change was delightful. At 5:30 we had our choice of seats and within an hour the place was packed. Lasagna was enough to feed an army, leftovers were delicious. I am a tough critic and make my own pizza, because everywhere has terrible pizza. People say go here and there but they all suck. But not this place, it's good in my book and just as good as mine :) I thoroughly enjoyed the Cloud 9 IPA, my only gripe is it need to be in 20/22oz glasses it's that good! I have been eating at the Bistro since I've moved to the area four years ago. I fell in love with the eggplant parmigiana. The eggplant was cooked perfectly! The portion was perfectly distributed between the eggplant and the pasta. I would have always rated the restaurant with 5 stars. Unfortunately, the last two years, I have been so disappointed that my favorite dish has gone downhill! The last two times I ordered it, the eggplant was sliced as thin as a piece of foil! I was fretting that it would dissipate before it reached my mouth. I guess I was previously spoiled with at least 2-3 medium to large half inch slices. Instead I received 3 small foil thin slices over what has been replaced with an extra mound of pasta. I have purchased large trays of the chicken and eggplant parmigiana for events and family gatherings, which was wonderful but very pricey. I never minded the price as long as it was what I termed 'the best'. After the last two experiences, unfortunately I have to consider a different venue. I'm not surprised at the change in portions, prices and quality as many restaurants are cutting costs with similar changes. Nonetheless, I'm sad the Bistro followed suit. read more

Tucked in Venetian bay, bistro 424 is kind of hard to find but well worth it for the trip Full bar so started off with my ketel 1 dirty martini and candyce had her chardonnay. Done pretty good. When the rest of the group showed up appetizer was bruschetta which was really good. Bread had the crusty style crust but center was soft and chewy. Complimentary rolls were brought out and they were fantastic Main course for me was mahi stuffed with crabcakes with side veggies. Kitchen had mine with green beans but the waiter remembered I wanted spring veggies and brought those out. Waiter did a great job with everyone. The mahi filet was thick and done great. We went mountain biking at nearby Spruce Creek, aka Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve close to New Smyrna Beach (also recommended if you like Mountain Biking, or Hiking. Afterwards we were starving and found Bistro 424 on our way back to Orlando. What a great find. The menu is quite extensive. Full bar if you want some cocktails. Now that we live in southern Georgia, I haven't kept up with reviews like I should. However, yesterday 2/24 we drove to New Smyrna Beach to visit my sister for her birthday. We had an early dinner and my sister picked this place because she had truffle fries here sometime before and really liked them. So my sister, wife, mother and I sat outside overlooking a nice large man made pond in a complex known as Venetian Bay. I didn't have high expectations, I was just glad to be with family on a beautiful afternoon outdoors in February. The hostess, Paris, helped get us the desired table and was also our server. After being seated I checked some Yelp reviews and they seemed promising. So we ordered the truffle fries which were excellent and the ahi nachos, which caught my eye, for appetizers. This was probably the 2nd best dish ordered by us yesterday. It was like a diced poke style ahi with avocado and tomato on these crispy yet yielding pita points. Absolutely delicious. My mom loves cheesesteaks which aren't always done right. They got it right. It's was quite large and cooked to perfection. The cheese was nice and gooey while the steak was shaved and very tender. It was too much for her as she is 92 so I ate half. I would order that any day of the week. We both saw this shrimp and crab pizza on the menu and my mom suggested I get that and share. She had already planned on sharing her cheesesteak with me. It y far the star of the show. My sister ordered the Mahi sandwich without the cheese. My wife got the bistro burger which was what I was going to get before mom changed my mind. My wife loved her burger, she said was cooked to perfection and she subbed a tossed side salad with there signature lemon vinaigrette dressing. My sister's sandwich was also a hit which she took most of it home to her husband because she was devouring my pizza. Only my wife wasn't interested as she's not a pizza fan. (I know, crazy right?) the smell of the pizza alone was enough to drive you mad with desire. I cannot emphasize enough how good this pizza was. The 12 inch was plenty also. We all took home food as the portions are great. We ate a lot. Mom did a great job but had help from my sister devouring her fries. I told my sister who in turn told the waitress that all other food would taste like dog poop after this meal. Who will top this or even equal it? I'm so glad we picked this place and ordered what we did. One of the best dining experiences of my life. People in the parking lot were telling us to try other dishes and how good they are. I hope the food is as good when we visit again. It's 2 hours away from where we live but it's another excuse to see my sister. read more

Used to be a solid place to go. Breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks it was consistently a great time. Always enjoyed the food and the view. But the last two times we have gone there, each time was for brunch, they have gotten the orders wrong. This was the last time. Three strikes and your out in my book. I just can't justify the issues. The food is great, the view is fantastic but the service has been hit or miss. If I am entertaining, I would have second thoughts. If I am willing to let things slide and just enjoy the view while I wait - well then I am in the right spot. Had to get my meal boxed up to go again as it took them almost 15 minutes to correct the problem, which isn't bad unless you consider the server never came back to check on our meals and after about ten minutes I got up and brought it to their attention. I should have asked them to just remove it from the bill as it wasn't going to keep in the car while we finished our errands (we ended up tossing them in the trash on the way to the car). Then again, it should have been offered by the management. It is a shame as the flavors are great, the view is fantastic but it will be a long time before we try again. There are many operations that are on top of their game and more deserving our of money. read more

It is our go-to place for great pizza and overall provides excellent food with a view of one of the lake-like ponds at Venetian Bay, with both outside and inside service. 12" and 16" pizzas are done perfectly with chewy thin crusts and a good selection of meat or cheese or even 1/2+1/2 options. You can order online and pick up your order (about 30-35 minutes after ordering) through a dedicated pick-up door. We've had their burgers, shrimp scampi, salads, and many other items and have almost never been disappointed in the portions, quality, or speed of service. Great food! We just moved into the area and give this place a shot. Casual attire which I love since I live in Florida. Don't remember the servers name but his suggestions were great. He was friendly and he seems to be pretty cool. I did order a sangria but I had better ones. This restaurant is located in the lovely Venetian Bay neighborhood right on a beautiful "lake" that looks like Portofino Bay! Their food is American and Italian flare. Great menu and drink options. I had the Bianca Florentine Pizza and added Italian sausage and it was SO delicious. If you're looking for a refreshing drink to go with dinner their Mule was really good. The only thing I would say is the customer service is pretty slow and I highly recommend making reservations that helps they can get busy at times, which is great for them! I can't rate their food or ambience. I can rate their service, it's absolutely abysmal. Several weeks ago we called and asked if we could make reservations were told that they didn't take reservations. Our group of 6 arrived and were asked if we had reservations!!! The young ladies at the front of the house told us it would be 45 minutes or better. We were informed we could sit outside in the windy 50 degree weather. There were 6 or 8 four tops that were empty. Bottom line our group will never be back and we informed all of our friends. Bad staff will cost you business! read more
