The ONLY star goes to our server, Brianna, who made this experience not become a total disaster. We tried dining here last evening and there were no open reservations. Fine, we walked down to see if anything was open. My husband asked the hostess and she said "sorry we close in 20 minutes." Okay fine so we walked over so B Lux and just wanted to double check on OpenTable where we happened to find 4 open spots to dine. So we clicked on 9:30 and walked back down. The servers excuse was "our manager just extended our time and opened up more slots." That's fine except all the tables that had reservations in the bar area were STILL not filled at 9 pm. ALSO...per our server the time gets extended quite frequently due to high volume. So I'm shocked that as a manager or a management team they would not have been in the know about the uptick in reservations. Coming from this industry, it's important to know surrounding events, bookings, etc to base staffing off of. Clearly this management team lacks training and basic knowledge. To top it off, the one hostess decided to hold her little pad up to speak to I assume a male manager about me because within seconds they both looked over. Customer service 101.. you can be frustrated with customers all you want but to speak about them in front of them is wrong and unprofessional. Luckily I didn't feel the need to walk up and call them out but I can assure you I will NEVER return to this place. Then I had a snarky female manager walk over to try and backpedal on hours, etc. I pointed out her ignorant staff member and proceeded to tell her do not bother with me. In the meantime, a gentleman had made reservations for 8:45 and was still not sat at 9:15 and when he asked .. the hostess said yeah so did everyone else. Again, the lack of common sense and professionalism in this place astounds me. We were sat at a table, with no silverware, which we did get from our server. Our server, Brianna, was their saving grace. The food took forever, but I had assumed considering how overbooked they were. Drinks took a bit. Calamari portion was meek. Salad was very light on toppings. My husbands soup was not only cold but had zero flavor. My son wanted pepperoni pizza and received no pepperoni. We ordered a margarita pizza and it literally looked like a cheese pizza. No tomatoes, no basil. This place literally needs new management who knows what they're doing. There is no communication and lack of direction. Also, as someone who has managed a restaurant to assume that the staff should stay extra is wrong. Even better that the menus say 5-10 but only open til 9. I've been coming to Kalahari for years but rest assured I will never be returning to this joke of a place. read more

After spending an amazing day in the waterpark we wanted to stay onsite to have dinner. It was late (9pm) but the restaurant was kind enough to give us a 9:30 reservation - thank you Sortino's. In terms of the food, some of it (baked ziti and manicotti) was good but not great, and other dishes like the spaghetti and meatballs were not good at all. The meatballs were good but the pasta and sauce were tasteless. The service, unfortunately, was subpar, and although I usually tip 20% or higher I was planning on leaving a 15% tip for our waitress as she hardly stopped at our table after taking our order, in addition, she was not helpful when she was at the table. Luckily for the waitress, the restaurant automatically adds a 20% tip onto the bill. My family will probably go back to Kalahari again, however, we'll skip Sortino's and go to another restaurant for dinner. read more

The lighting was generous and it was easy to read menu. The piped in music was subtle and almost acceptable. Since my table chitter chatter was mind-numbing annoying, the music helped dilute it. The seats were super comfortable with a nice seat cushion. First, the service was less than adequate; we had to ask the matre de if they had assigned us a waiter. You tell me--is 20 minutes too long? The food was....meh.... short of satisfactory. Let's start with the appetizers--we got the seafood medley. We subbed out the mussels for chicken wings. The calamari was Costco's best with some oregano, pepper and salt applied prior to serving. Nothing to write home about. The wings were not good--charred in some parts and dry throughout. The baked clams were tiny but cooked well and tasted better--served in a cast iron dish on a nice butter/garlic sauce. I'd order them again. The veal parmigiana was amply sized but a bit chewy. The crust was not that adherent to the meat and suggest they do a better egg soak or maybe double soak. The side of ziti was dried out and blah. Tried the meatballs and spaghetti-- the meatballs were quite good! Proportions of beef, veal and pork were perfect. The spaghetti was very nicely cooked and sauce was very tasty with chunks of tomato. Overall, setting was a 3/4, food was a 2, service a 2, so I'm obligated to give them a 2; I don't want someone to invite friends or family for a nice night out and then, as consequence of this decision, sully, tarnish or diminish these relationships! read more

Sortino's has the best bathrooms at Kalahari! We went on a Saturday night with a party of 5 and we were seated within half an hour. The server we had was really nice and personable, but it did take a little while for them to bring out our food. Sortinos ! Came here with my and a friends family; a group of 8 total. After a day of slides, wave pool, and lazy river this was a great spot we all agreed on. Our server was great and took care of the adults, and was patient and cool with our boys ages 5 though 11. The menu options were great, we ordered salads, pasta, seafood, pizza, fries, and drinks. The food was pretty good and everyone was a subtle sleepy after lol. We were seated in a nice area in the mix but apart enough to really have a good time amongst ourselves. Sadly, I cannot recommend this place one hundred percent. Here is why: 1. I bought the Frutti di Mare. It said that it came in a garlic and spicy white wine sauce. The noodle was fettuccine. The noodles were well cooked but scant as was the seafood. While the seafood was minimalThe sauce was bland and not spicy ; I had to request hot pepper flakes. No garlic was detected so I used the garlic that came with the bread. 2. The focaccia bread, which had to be requested, was AMAZING. It was soft and chewy and had onions on it. I loved the focaccia! 3. Unlike any other Italian restaurant, this place does not grant you a salad with your meal. I found this odd. 4. The waitress we had was terrifically attentive and mannerly! Always a good choice when staying at Kalahari Resort. We have been there four times over the last 5 years. Start with the Mozzarella Garlic Bread - it's delicious! Their homemade meatballs are fantastic as well - the meat is like my own homemade meatballs but they add ricotta to the centers which is amazing! I usually opt for a pasta dish - the Chick a Chick-a Boom pasta is wonderful, as is the Tortellini Baronessa. This last time we went, I went a different route and tried the Margarita Pizza which was delicious - very filling though, my 16 year old daughter & I shared it and we still had a few extra left over slices. If your looking for a good red wine, try their Merlot - I think it's called Decoy. read more

This is sure a tough review. An Italian restaurant at a resort in the middle of Pennsylvania, at a " family " aka kids themed water park. If you read my reviews, we have eaten here a few times. This time was a Different story and it all had to do with service. The food is getting the 3 stars but not because it's amazing Italian food. It's getting the three stars because we are in the middle of Pennsylvania at a water park and gets the job done. The ambiance is old school Italian nice. The menu is definitely tourist oriented. The problem we had today was service. Our waitress, who I refuse to name names but worked tonight on Thursday was not well trained. As we sat down she asked " can I put in you order " . As we were ordering our apps she was very short and confused. When our appetizer showed up, the waitress served us a salad we were discussing not ordering. We asked to take it back but when billed came it was on bill, yes it was rectified. After our entrees were served no one came to tables for 10 minutes and 43 seconds...( my wife and I checked the time... we wanted parmigiana cheese and hot pepper flakes ( we ordered pasta dishes) now maybe we are being picky but I do not think these are out of ordinary requests. I must keep in mind that this place is in mist of now where and there employees must be transient but more training on how-to serve is a must... mimic Disney ( attention to detail).. so once again it's good food food for the location. Sortinos makes Olive Garden look good. Came here due to being at Kalahari. Was advised this was one of the nicer restaurants on site. The interior is nicely decorated and clean. We were seated promptly. Service was great throughout. Ordered cocktails they were good. Next came the bread - it was complimentary. The bread tasted stale and had some dried up red sauce on it. The olive oil dipping sauce was nasty. Olive oil tasted rancid. Calamari appetizer was tough, chewy and bland. The "brick oven pizza" was just okay, didn't taste fresh. I'd have a better pizza at Pizza Hut. Then I ordered this tortellini dish. I unfortunately had to send it back, peas in it tasted like freezer burn, mushrooms were slimy and the sauce was clumpy not velvety like. At this point everything sucked but the pizza was more palatable so I sent back the tortellini. Manager came by was nice about it after I had to answer a few questions. I felt ripped off. Staying at the Kalahari resort we chose to eat here. We did make reservations Service was good. We sat at high top tables in bar. This was the better place than the main dining. Cocktails were excellent but pricey. Wine the same. Food choices were decent and serving size was ample. Had leftovers. Be sure you check your check. There is service charge for total bill . This fee doesn't include a fair amount for gratuity for the server. Why they do that is absurd. Like they dont make enough money there? Bring your wallet. We were not aware of the service charge. The resort has several choices to eat. The burger place we didnt try but they also have the same deal with service charge and gratuity adds ons. Double cut..(Strak place)your will need to leave your firstborn to pay for that meal . Choose wisely. read more

The one star is hoping the pizza is better , I ordered spaghetti and meatballs and half my plate was just sauce. Meat tasted like it came out of a can the spaghetti portion was the size of one meatball. Maybe it was just a bad night but if it wasn't and more people found it the same this is just a review to further that opinion. Came for dinner here while staying at Kalahari. It was a great experience overall. We made reservations and were seated right on time. Our waiters Lawrence and Ava was wonderful! Their energy, attentiveness, and teamwork is unmatched. They are truly a great asset and made dinner a very pleasurable experience. They should really be rewarded. The food was also great. They serve a complimentary bread which was very soft and warm. We ordered calamari for dinner that was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Where do I begin?! This restaurant was FANTASTIC. My fiance and I were staying at Kalahari and we're both lovers of Italian food, so we knew we needed to try this place. The atmosphere, the decor, the music, the food, and the staff were all incredible! We had an amazing server who was so attentive to us. He offered us an appetizer that wasn't even on the menu (garlic bread with melted mozzarella) to get us started. This was so delicious! The menu had so many options, it was hard to choose what to eat! My fiance and I both had the Chick-a-Chick-a-Boom dinner and it was FABULOUS. The flavor and the spices were out of this world. It was a lot of food, so we took our leftovers back to the room with us. We did leave enough room for dessert, of course! We had a hazelnut cheesecake which was perfectly portioned. We got seated at the private dining area and Demari was our waitress. We ordered drinks, appetizers, entrees and asked for the kids meals to come out first since they need to eat asap. Our drinks took at least 20 minutes and appetizers and kids meals took 30 minutes. Unacceptable. I had to go to the manager and tell her the problem but every time I went to her the drinks/food and out. Horrible experience and the the stuffed pasta shells were so tiny for the price! Sortino's has some cruddy reviews on Yelp, and my first few visits to Kalahari we avoided a lot of the restaurants because of it. One night we were too lazy to head out, and decided to give Sortino's a shot. Our family of four was able to walk right in and get seated at about 7:00pm on a Saturday. Tables are a bit small to fit everyone and all of the plates, but we managed. The food portions are huge, and if you visit you should definitely consider ordering a few dishes and sharing. For our four people we ordered the garlic bread (regular bread does come with the meal), fettucini alfredo with chicken, chicken parmiagana, and shrimp scampi. All four of the meals were delicious, but I especially liked the fettucini alfredo. Other than the tiny tables, you won't get any complaints from me - service was great, food was delicious, and Sortino's is a very solid food option for those visiting Kalahari. read more

We ordered a whole bunch of items, from the meat and cheese plate for the table and the seafood antipasti as well, to a number of entrees -- the veal parmigiana, the pasta d'avolio, the linguine with white wine sauce and clams, the spaghetti and meatballs, the pizza, the baked ziti -- and the tiramisu dessert. The veal? A little dry and tough. Breading was thick and a tad soggy. Flavor was okay. The pasta d'avolio -- definitely one of their better entrees. Spicy, heavy on the seafood, and a solid portion. Linguine was oily although generous with the clams and garlic. Spaghetti and meatballs was exactly as I expected -- nice, fatty, meaty meatball and dry-ish tomato sauce pasta. The pizza was terrible -- don't get it. Looked like high school cafeteria pizza that's been under the hot plate for too long. Tiramisu: I'm not entirely sure it was made with mascarpone, instead we got a ton of whipped cream. That being said, the rum flavor really came through, although not much coffee. Service was fine although there was some confusion with whose entrees went to who. Overall, I'd say if you're looking for a convenient, generically "nice" although perhaps just middling-in-taste meal, this is a good place to check out. read more

Justin Smith served us at Sortino's Italian Kitchen on our 4 year anniversary. He did an awesome job and I highly recommend requesting him as a server. Justin offered prompt and friendly service, offering his recommendations and accommodating us when we wanted to change our order even after it was placed. He also surprised us with two cannoli's with chocolate drizzle saying happy anniversary at the end of our meal! The food was great too! Authentic tasting pasta dishes and fresh calamari.
