AWFUL EXPERIENCE! I NEVER LEAVE REVIEWS!!!!My family and I were there a few months ago with our friends and children. We had a total of 10 people in our party. We ate at the Mexican restaurant the first night and the food and service was impeccable so we kind of expected the same at Sortino's. We made a reservation for 7 pm and ended up waiting almost 45 minutes anyway. By the time we sat, our 6 kids were tired and cranky. Our waiter was very friendly and seemed good at first, but the night quickly went downhill. Drinks were slow to come out- I waited 45 minutes for a club soda. We never got a chance to order the appetizers we wanted because time kept dragging on as the kids kept getting more tired and by the time our server came back we had to order entrees ASAP. LONGGGGGGG story as short as I can make it- my 11 year old son had a big black hair in his chicken Alfredo. My husbands pasta dish came without the shrimp he asked for in it. My friend and I both ordered a dish with broccoli and our broccoli was both frozen! Our waiter was completely negligent and never even came to check on our table once after our food arrived. We asked to speak to a manager. This is when things really got good. "Christina" the general manager who was a VERY snotty woman came out and proceeded to roll her eyes, ARGUE WITH MY 11 YEAR OLD SON ABOUT THE HAIR IN HIS FOOD, ask me why my husband ate his food if it was missing the shrimp (ummm he was freakin starving after waiting hours to eat ) and tell me she DOESNT care if I leave any reviews. I could go on and on about the next events that transpired that night, but this nasty "manager" and the horrendous servers can kick rocks in my opinion!!! Never again! read more

Took the fam here since we were staying at Kalahari and we had a great dinner! Our server, Jonhelex, was awesome! He made our experience the best and suggested my dinner, Pasta Mafia, that was amazing. If you like steak and green and red peppers, you'll love this pasta dish. It's in a cream sauce with a nice kick of heat at the end. Def worth checking out if you're staying at Kalahari or in the general area. read more

We stayed at the Kalahai Resort for two nights, and dine in for dinner for both night. Our first dinner was so good enough for us to go back for seconds. Service for ourc first visit wasn't as up to our standard as the reception lady wanted to seat us at either the very front or the far back corner of the restaurant when clearly by eye that the restaurant was not full at all. I demanded to be seated in the middle or anywhere besides the corners of the restaurant. Indeed we got seated in the middle of the restaurant. The second visit we got seated by the bar with the stool chairs which was fine because our kids liked the idea and each time was a different experience. Worked out fine. For both times our waitresses were very professional and helpful to answering my questions and in serving us. Our kids were offered crayons and activity sheets to work on. Definately kept my 5 year old busy. Their pasta dish and their side dishes kept us going for seconds. Here what's for dinner for two nights. Our starters were fried calamari, bake clams, and mussels. Their bake clams were so flavorful very just enough garlic white sauce and very lightly breaded unlike the ones I have had in the city. Mussels with marinara sauce were juston point with enough heat and taste. I used the sauce to dip my complementary bread with. Seafood Diablo pasta- the best pasta I have had. Just enough heat and pasta was prepared by perfection. Big enough portion for two. This is a must order if you can eat seafood. Eggplant parmesan with pasta- huge portion I can share with my son and the eggplant to pack to go. Eggplant with Very thin and much breaded which I find it too heavy to eat. Taste good but might not be my right choice to order. Our kids had their two kids meals as pizza and spaghetti and meatballs for each night. If you don't might a doughy crust pizza than this is the type of pizza for u. Although it tasted authentic and fresh. Our kids loved it but as my opinion, I love my crust thin and crispy. Their spaghetti were again prepared on perfect but their Sortino's meatballs were fell a bit short as it fell apart in just one bit of it. Texture was a bit soggy And mushy much breading and no meat. Each kids meal came with a drink of choice. Overall, we enjoyed our food and would definitely recommend to try their food. I would definitely goop back for their pastas. read more

We stayed at the resort for two nights and decided to eat at Sortino's on our last night. Thankfully we did, our server made our entire stay worth while. The stay at the resort was horrible but Ruth at Sortino's was the brIght spot we desperately needed. Aside from our amazing server, the food was delicious too. Every course was superb, and our server only made every switch over delightful. Every restaurant, every retail organization, and every hotel needs a Ruth. It's unfortunate this establishment resides within a terrible hotel. It's obvious the entire staff feels worthless. Everyone seems lifeless and hate their daily job. Not Ruth! The kind of restaurant where the mediocre food insults the nice setting and good service. Ordered the cheesy garlic bread appetizer (somewhat duplicative of the bread they bring for free to the table) which was good, all other food bad. The Chilean sea bass had zero flavor and the chicken Caesar salad had both rubbery chicken and a dressing not readily identifiable as a Caesar dressing. I am torn here. I'd actually give this place a solid 3.5. Normally I round up but I don't really think they're 4 star worthy and here is why. First of all, I wasn't expecting much because its a restaurant in a family resort. And the only reason I had that expectation was because I've been to some of these types of resorts in the past and the food was never their star. But I was hopeful because the restaurants here looked fun and were themed appropriately. We were a party of 19 and the place was empty. They accommodated us in a back room area with 2 servers. The servers were friendly but a little off at times. We split the checks by family and they took our orders by family so that wasn't an issue. My friend ordered a glass of the house chardonnay ($11) and they told her that they no longer had house so they gave her another glass of chardonnay which ended up costing her $16. Same for me I ordered a glass or Rose ($9) and they said they were out and offered me a $17 glass. NO! So I got an $11 Chardonnay. Not a huge deal but ick I hate paying that much for wine. The entrees were reasonably priced (Around $20) for a place like this and bread was served with oil and cheese to dip. I know with 19 people its hard to serve but I was pleasantly surprised at how fast the food came out. That is, until all but like 4 of us didn't received our food. They kept coming out every couple of minutes with dishes and then suddenly - nothing. And what boggled my mind was that the servers didn't even seem phased by it. In fact one of them came to me and offered me fresh grated cheese....I was like, "For my plate? I don't have any food" He didn't even look close enough to realize I didn't have my food. So half of the table was done eating and they were offered dessert and I was still waiting for my food. Finally it came out and I got my bland pasta dish. It looked great but it lacked in flavor. My friend got the Caprese salad which I tried and it also lacked flavor and the texture of the Mozzerella was like dry and hard. So that was a bummer. The desserts looked good but at that point I had spent enough money on an underwhelming experience and was good to go. If I find myself here again I think I'd get a drink and dessert, or an appetizer and skip the entrees. read more

Just plain repulsive, add in service that would put a frown on the sweetest person's face and you have the ultimate mix of horrid experience. Espresso martinis: sewage water Calamari: dry and so salty you could drink a gallon of water (but wait the the waitress in a horrible mood doesn't even bring enough water for the whole table and comes around every 20-30 minutes) Entrees: An hour later the food comes out. It appears the waitress must have forgotten it as by the time it comes out the cheese on the parmigiana is rock hard Gluten and dairy free knowledge: First entree delivered covered in cheese. Sent back for obvious reasons and you would think that the remake would be expedited. Instead 20 minutes later and nothing was coming out, to the extent that a very hungry member of our party left as 90 minutes into the experience she needed to find food she could eat. Service: No spacial awareness. We sat for over 45 minutes before water and bread was even brought. This would be forgivable with some good attitude and graciousness. Instead, she brought whatever bad day she was having and the pressure of screwing up service to the experience. Didn't even bother telling us to have a good night even though we were still nice enough to give $20 (would have been more like $50 with the crowd whom we came with generally). read more

Don't eat here. Really. Whoever works in management, please revamp. I'll expand: This is not Italian food. I expect this in the US -- and at a resort. My server was nice. She was a terrible waitress. At least nice. People leaving were complaining. Nobody looked happy who was dining. Calamari was soggy. No seasoning. I ordered chicken saltimbocca. I've sent food back to the kitchen twice in 45 years. First was a steak that was way over cooked. This time: The chicken was covered in disgusting over-cooked veggies and the whole plate was seeping in this sauce that was so salty to make it inedible -- simultaneously soaking the chicken to a soggy mess. And. I. Love. Salt. It was too salty. Plus since my server was MIA I had no water. The pasta side dish was obliterated in cheese and way over cooked. My table mates got kids spaghetti and meatballs (unseasoned but the pasta was only a little over cooked). Shame on you Kalahari for not giving a care about the food knowing we're stuck there. Overall the night my family and I went, we did not fully enjoy the experience. I had chicken Marsala, son had fettuccini Alfredo w/ chicken, daughter had chicken parm, and wife had chicken Caesar. Atmosphere - beautifully decorated, simple and sweet generic Italian music but it works. Drinks - had a great old fashion at the bar. Nothing unique but perfectly executed. Food - had the eggplant parm and it was perfectly OK. The pasta underneath just tasted cheap and was over cooked. There was hardly any sauce on the dish. The bread they served was a little stale as well. Really disappointing for a meal that came out to 72 dollars for 1 entree and 2 drinks w/a 20% tip that the staff 100% deserved. I get that you are a bit of a hostage to the resort when it comes to dining options but they need to break the bank a little and invest in some decent macaroni to go with this. read more

Sortino's is probably one of the better restaurants at the Kalahari resort. As expected, it is overpriced, but the overall experience was solid. Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly. The food was good. No, it doesn't rival an authentic five star Italian restaurant, but I would say it's better than an Olive Garden. The only reason I am giving three stars is that $65 for two adults and one child to eat a decent dinner at an already overpriced resort is a bit much. read more

I really wanted to like this restaurant. But perhaps it's a little bit too early in its history to get things right. The service was awkward and difficult. The food was just OK and the overall experience just seemed "not quite there yet." -Our drink order of Margarita was denied because there was no salt. -The meatballs from the kids menu were very spicy and not something I would expect for a meal tailored for children. -Our reservation was mysteriously lost. -Grated cheese was offered for our entrée so late in dinner that we were almost done. So, overall it's a rocky start. But it's my hope that they can get things a little bit more organized and pay a little bit more attention to the food. read more

Everything is expensive and overpriced at Kalahari, water parks have you where they want you. Miles away from food of any redeemable quality means that you'll spend fifteen minutes just driving to an off resort restaurant. Plot twist, enter Sortinos. We were served personally by the manager Brandy. She was super nice and was ready to make recommendations. I'm glad my wife and I went with the Chicken Limone and shared it. For twenty bucks you've got a picatta style dish large enough to share or save for lunch. Ask for extra onions, when you sink your teeth into the caper flooded breaded chicken you'll thank me. It's a very well prepared dish. You can expect complimentary bread with an olive oil dip. It's soft and certainly enjoyable. We let on that we were visiting there for the first time and were offered an opportunity to build our own cannolis! I'm ready for my extra role in a mafia movie. We finished a long day of water park and arcade by sitting at the bar and having incredible cocktails and appetizers. Nicole was awesome. She greeted us promptly and recommended a few drinks. Upon her suggestion we ordered a few martinis and they were incredible. We ate French onion soup and the tomato mozzarella salad both were great. The bread served was something I am still thinking about. Hot and crusty and delicious. Definitely a place we will return. Nicole the bartender is wonderful at her job. Definitely over priced for average food. Spaghetti and meatballs costs $28 when the meatball is dry and bland. Kids pasta taste horrible, they don't even put any salt in the pasta and kids couldn't eat it. Calamari was too hard, margarita pizza was way too cheesy and no taste of basil, and they put slices of tomatoes on the pizza which is really weird for margarita pizza. My seafood pasta was not even fully cooked, had only threads of lobster and mostly shrimps and clams. The tiramisu was overly sweet without any hint of espresso, for $10. The complimentary bread was also a bit hard, and kids hated it. Overall the food was below average and the price charged is three times over priced. Won't be going back again. read more

The manager, Christine, was arrogant, dull witted, and overall ignorant. The waiter took *forever* to take our orders, and it took over an hour to receive our food. Two of the orders were fully wrong, and it took them 30 minutes for a "3 minute" correction. When we complained that by this point, the two friends had scavenged enough to eat from other plates in the party, and Christine gave us a shit look and wondered off. When she came back , she was speaking at a near yell, I'm assuming to try and embarrass us, and tried to tell us it was our fault they messed up our orders and took forever. Absolute disgrace. Pro's: Spacious, you don't feel overcrowded. Fried Calamari was very good, the espresso was good. Cons: Every dish was badly over salted. The Caprese salad was especially salty. The sauce tasted like something right out of a jar and the chicken parmesan had very little flavor. The appetizer boards are a joke, very small portions, again, very salty. No pasta options, looked like cavatappi for every dish served with a pasta side. The cannoli's tasted like whipped cream. Miscellaneous: The online menu differed from the actual one, huge pet peeve. I give a very low score on service. The food came an hour after. The pasta on my shrimp scampy was over cooked. They even put too much sauce as if I ordered soup. First off!! The staffed that served me and my friends was amazing, Bree , Nelson and Juan. all very diligent and hard working. Bree the waitress is like lighting fast and very knowledgeable about the menu. Nelson & Juan were the bartenders that served us at the bar, Nelson knows his way around the bar and makes excellent drinks, Juan is a very talented mixologist and very professional. And Christina!! This place should have gotten 5 stars if it were not for this one bad experience. Will talk about the positives first- Food is very decent. Great portions. Fresh ingredients. They even sent a manager over to ask whether our experience was good. Hands down wonderful. The server was also amazing. Lisa is her name I think. Very attentive and friendly. So why 3 stats then? There's this lady- super-short hair with darker skin- who brought us to our seats. Her attitude was nothing left to be desired - she literally threw the menus at us on the table, and slammed the high chair and left it in the middle of a row of chairs. I was holding a toddler with one arm, and grabbing onto my other child with the other arm... and no help was offered to see where the high chair could possibly go. This lady was so unhelpful and rude that was so mind boggling. If Sortino's is reading this review, I hope you guys can figure out what the deal is with this lady. Her rudeness is quite unacceptable. Everything else is plain amazing. Don't let one poor staff ruin your place. read more

Visited Sortino's this past Sunday during a short trip to Kalahari water park. Made reservations for 8:30 and were seated fairly quickly at a big table in the bar area. After about 10 minutes, no server had come by so I went over to the bar to try and order 2 drinks. I stood there for another 5 minutes and no one came over. For much of this 5 minutes, I watched an employee behind the bar directly in front of me working on something (wiping glasses down, etc.). His back was to me the entire time but there was a mirror in front of him. Had he been paying any attention, he would have seen me and addressed me, even if just to say I'll send a bartender over (he may have been a bar-back). The bartender had been there but stepped away from the whopping 2 customers he had at the bar. I finally went back to the server station (by this time it had been about 20 minutes since we were sat) and advised the staff that no one had been by to help us yet. They were polite and helpful and said they would get someone to come over. Another few minutes go by and still no server. I went back over to the bar but again no bartender came to help. Our server finally came over and apologized and took our drink order. She was friendly and helpful. After another 5+ minutes, my wife and I still didn't have our drinks. I then noticed our server walk behind the bar and pour them herself. What the....??? I don't understand what the hell kind of operation they have going on here but this was very strange. There were 3 men behind the bar at that time. Each one of them were not busy yet this sever had to pour her own drinks. Ridiculous. The food came out probably 20 minutes later and was very good. Portions weren't great and the prices were high. I skipped the pizza because $15 for a tiny 10" pizza is a joke as well as a seafood pasta dish that sounded good but was pricey ($32). I realize it's a resort and higher prices are the norm. My pasta with meatballs was very good; my wife didn't love her salad. My son liked his Mac n cheese but his fries were lukewarm (but good). My daughter's fettuccini Alfredo was good too. Our server did bring bread a few times and lowered the price for my wife's carafe of wine. We were appreciative of that. What we didn't like or expect was that our bill had an automatic 20% tip added in for our table of 4. Maybe all resorts do that now but I've never seen it, at least for a party of 4. There is obviously no incentive for staff to provide good service warranting this 20% tip since they know it will automatically be added. Having run a restaurant before and personal experience tells me there's no way servers (maybe not all) are going to strive for excellent service with this system. Maybe I'm wrong; maybe Sortino's customers tend to not tip well regardless of service so they instituted this policy. If that's the case, I understand why you did it but just let customers know. I don't recall seeing any written notice of this policy but perhaps I missed some fine print somewhere. We are good tippers and never tip below 20% unless service is poor...and even then it's never below 10-15%. We visit restaurants frequently and rarely submit reviews. However, I had some time and thought people should know about our experience. Sortinos: your food was good and our server (once she came) was good. However, overall you fell short in the service department this time, particularly your bar staff and our initial wait time. And because you automatically added a 20% tip for service that didn't earn it and were not forthcoming about it, we won't be back next time we're in town. I'm sure this won't matter much to you because I'm guessing the bulk of your customers are infrequent tourists. I just hope others take note of your shady business practice. read more

We had dinner at Sortino's Italian Kitchen while staying at Kalahari and had a great experience. Solange, who was the hostess, went above and beyond to accommodate our family with four young kids and made sure we have big enough table and kids stay entertained. We ordered several different dishes and everyone really enjoyed their meals, including kids! Some of the dishes we really enjoyed were muscles, seafood al diavolo, veal saltimbocca just got name a few. They even accommodated someone in our group with special dietary needs. Really great restaurant and will be back again next time we stay at Kalahari. Make sure you make reservations ahead of time as the restaurant gets busy. read more
