This place must throw away SO much food. Took an hour after ordering to get the food (and orders weren't even taken until we had been there 30 minutes) - even drinks took 45 minutes to show up after ordering. Kids got their food 30 minutes before the adults, so they were finished by the time the adults' food arrived. Inaccuracies, even after taking so long. Way too salty, some things pre-prepared/reheated (chicken parm especially egregious) but still arrived cold. "100 layer lasagna bolognese" was literally a generic mountain of basic salty meat sauce with a little linguine. It's garbage. They know it. They think that giving you a bucket of it will make up for it. It does not. At least it was hot, which is apparently a bar they typically are unable to reach. Waiter was MIA. Food service was wandering with dishes, unaware of what table they were going to. Especially frustrating when you've been waiting an hour for your order. Our large group was promised a full table in a room. They sat us at two awkward, separate tables in the middle of the restaurant. This is while we can clearly see multiple, empty rooms during our entire 2 1/2 hour time there. They claim the food is authentic Italian. Superb service! My group of 7 friends went to Kalahari to celebrate a bachelorette. They gave us each a glass of complementary champagne and cannoli for the bride! We really appreciated it. The food was delicious and great portion sizes. The food came out quickly and we were all pleased with our meals. It's become a holiday tradition for my aunt and I to eat here on Christmas. It's always busy with the families staying at the resort but we grab seats at the bar no problem. THE FOOD -some of the food can be hit or miss. We've shared a few things over the years that were meh and some were delicious. -this year we found they no longer give you the complimentary garlic loaf of bread (it's now an app to purchase) but instead tomato rosemary focaccia. I enjoyed the new focaccia though the old bread was missed! -my aunt had the pizza and really liked it. I felt the crust left much to be desired. Considering it's labeled as brick oven pizza I was expecting a thinner crispy but chewy edge / more hand tossed taste to it. -I tried the chicken parm and enjoyed it! Not the best vodka sauce I've ever had but tasty nonetheless! Big portion as well. -we shared the broccoli and I was pleasantly surprised. Very flavorful and cooked well. Nice size portion too. THE DRINKS -we always get espresso martinis and they are absolutely delicious -since we sat at the bar we notice a lot of what they're making and the cocktails all look good -the bartenders always are whipping up drinks and seem very knowledgeable THE STAFF -the bartenders are always very friendly and accommodating! Always able to answer our questions when we have them. THE ATMOSPHERE -cool place! They do some dishes tableside (maybe the salads and dessert?) it's decorated in a cute way Overall, I wouldn't necessarily drive out of my way to eat this Italian , but since we don't have many options on Christmas this is our tradition and we really love it. I've eaten here four times. I like the atmosphere- big windows, lots of natural light. I've had the full run of their menu from a lunch time Italian buffet or a plated meal for business meetings- service in both cases was exceptional. We had a social gathering of alumni several times - once for a sit-down meal, once appetizers. Such a nice evening in both cases with quality food and service. Came here again, probably the best food I have had here. They have a salmon on the menu that is delicious. It's a little pricey at $32 but it's a big portion. Cooked perfectly, moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The fennel salad is lightly dressed and has very thinly sliced fennel that is crunchy and delicious. My husband's meatballs and spaghetti has the biggest meatballs ever. Everyone loved their meals, including the bolenegse, risotto, chicken Marsala and shrimp scampi. Besides the salmon the homemade mozzarella app was my favorite. Came with huge slices of thick bread baked with garlic. And a huge hunk of Mozzarella. I wish I had a bigger appetite it was so delicious. The bread it came with was better than the free bread they bring over, which is still good. The calamari app is also very good. 6 people split it and we each got 4-6 pieces. There is banana peppers in there too or maybe it's picketed jalapeño, either way it added a nice zing to complement the fried ness. The service was attentive and friendly. It was our nephews birthday and they brought over a cannoli! Though they didn't end up singing their signature birthday song. Ambiance is cozy and warm, we like to sit at the high tops by the bar. I rarely leave bad reviews, but this one was warranted. From the moment we walked in, the experience went downhill. The restaurant felt completely disorganized--no clear system, long wait times despite empty tables, and overall chaos. The host who seated us was shockingly rude. She didn't greet us or say a word--just tossed the menus on the table and walked off like we were an inconvenience. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience either. It was bland, lukewarm, and clearly not fresh. Nothing we ordered was memorable--in fact, most of it was left on the plate. A bit disappointed with this establishment. Ordered a chicken and shrimp pasta dish in a garlic & wine butter sauce. Food tasted fresh but it lacked flavor. Very rarely do I need to add salt to a dish like that, but found myself shaking on quite a bit bite after bite. The table shared an order of steamed mussels in a lobster bisque style sauce and they were good, but also lacked some flavor. Salads were not dressed and had little to no flavor even after dousing with olive oil and vinegar. We had a table of 10 and a few of our orders got mixed up a didn't arrive until others were almost done with their entrees. It was a bit busy, so I'll give the wait staff a bit of a pass on that. I seriously did not like that they did not put bread on the table, and upon requesting it, was informed that it was not provided and there was an additional charge for it. OK, I get it, it's a water park / resort ...... not specifically an Italian restaurant.....but the hotel staff really talked this place up quite a bit like it was going to be a special dining experience. We decided to try Sortino's Italian Kitchen at Kalahari Resort in the Poconos this evening. The food was decent. We ordered the Caesar salad which was a large portion enough to share for our party of four. Then my husband ordered the pasta diavolo, which said was a bit spicy, then I ordered the chicken Parmesan. I thought the chicken and the pasta were good. My son and daughter shared the kids pepperoni, which was a good size for both of them. Justin, our server, was quick, friendly and attentive. The ambiance is casual but still a nice touch of class, which was surprising for being at the largest water park. It's definitely a bit on the pricy side but very convenient if you're staying on the property. read more

My volleyball team went in Saturday night, we had the greatest time. Our waitress was Abby who provided great service, made great conversation and was very patient with the check. We had a reservation for a group of 10. Unfortunately, we had to wait ~30 min for our table which ended up being two smaller tables slid together to comfortably fit just 6 persons. The more disturbing items were the lack of genuine courtesy and professionalism in letting us know that they either overbooked and/or couldn't manage the restaurant effectively. It's one thing to be slammed by clientele but another thing when the two managers are unapologetic and somewhat rude when two families with young children are waiting 30 min. The food was fine (pasta a bit cold) and the service individual (although polite, nice) made several mistakes and took far too long to retrieve drinks on two separate requests/reminders. Obviously it's one of ~5 restaurants onsite to choose from but thought I would share my poor experience. Large Italian restaurant with not a ton of ambiance, but the food was surprisingly very good. We ordered calamari and garlic cheese bread to start but should have passed in the cheese bread since the complimentary Asiago rosemary bread was very good. Wife's sangria was excellent. The Chicken Bambino, Seafood Avialo, kids chicken Alfredo and kids cheese pizza all were enjoyed. The Bambino & Avialo were standouts. The waiter was pleasant and made up for fairly slow service. Right from the wonderful interactions with our front host with a spunky fun attitude (in a VERY good way) to our server just being so informative and delightful, we were all very happy with our experience. There was one uncomfortable situation that happened during our dinner at Sortinos on Friday(12/13) around 7pm et. My daughter(6 year old girl) really liked the waxed statue inside the restaurant and was curious and was touching and feeling it. All of a sudden and I am guessing the manager at that time( tall white male) approached her and my wife at yelled at her. It was very uncomfortable and unprofessional of him and I hope someone talks to him about this. With not many choices to pick from, I decided to make a reservation a day prior to guarantee a table, Same day reservations doesn't seem feasible when the park is busy. The staff was very accommodating and our server, Lawrence had a great personality that made the dining out experience more pleasant. First out was the bread... the bread was stale and tasted like undercooked dough. Lol... and the nerve of them to serve it with olive oil and Parmesan cheese as if it was supposed to compliment the bread. My wife and I both ordered the chicken parmesan which came out in decent timing. The serving size was decent and it actually looked and tasted pretty good. Happy that they were able to squeeze us in for a last minute dinner reservations however not happy at all about the food. I chose to only order some appetizers and glad that I did but ended up not eating any of it. Calamari was over cooked. Mussels dish on the menu states that it's in a white wine sauce and when it got to the table it was in a marinara sauce and when we questioned our server Justin about it, he stated that it was a typo in the menu.... Ooooohhhh a typo that you failed to inform me about when I ordered it. The kids enjoyed it so kept it but I didn't like it. The veal parmigiana didn't taste right. Meat smelled funny. I had to spit it out. I just tasted some of my daughters plate. The baked ziti surprised us all when it came out looking like Mac n cheese. Wth?? Didn't taste bad after some salt and pepper. The best thing I consumed was my aperol spritz. Big disappointment. I guess I have high expectations as an elite yelper. Maybe if you come here just keep it basic. We've been to kalahari at least 10x over the last 5 years and one thing that stays pretty darn consistently good is Sortino's. We've eaten there each time and never had a bad meal. Most of the time, the servers are great and the food is solid. My favorite is the pasta baronessa, usually order that w the arugula salad. Kids always like their meals. Last visit over Labor Day weekend was exceptional, we had the joy of Lawrence as our server. He was so warm and funny, and made us feel like nothing we asked for was a bother at all. He even heard us talk about an engagement and brought cannoli for the newly engaged! Lawrence was phenomenal, we hope to see him there again, thank you for a wonderful dinner. Sortino's is connected to the Kalahari resort. Convenient location and very family friendly (obviously). The inside of the restaurant is very spacious with beautiful decor, complete with an open kitchen. I was able to nab a last minute reservation on the phone for 4 people at 6:45pm on a Saturday night - I called at 6pm but I highly recommend making a reservation much earlier than that. We got lucky because we saw many people trying to walk in to inquire about reservation and got turned away after that or offered a much later available time. Our server was wonderful. I wish I remember her name... perhaps Natalie? Honestly she made the experience good because she was so friendly and attentive. She was definitely very busy made sure to stop by many times to make sure we were okay. The food it was average. We got a plain brick oven pizza for the kids to share, I had the seafood al diavoli, and my husband had the chicken parmigiana. I thought the pizza looked meh but the kids ate it which is all that matters... the extremely picky toddler loved the ziti that came with the chicken parmigiana so again a win!... He said he wants to eat the ziti for "100 years." LOL. I did like my seafood al diavolo. It was just slightly spicy, plenty of sauce, and a decent amount of seafood. Yum. We did not order the meatballs but saw it at a neighboring table and it was humongous and looked really good - would definitely order that next time. Also, they didn't bring us the children's pizza, because they simply forgot, as a result of which the child was forced to eat the wrong dish that she wanted. The waitress ignored us. As for the dishes we ordered, they are ok, the alcoholic cocktails are ok, the only thing that upset me was that the waiter brought them late, which caused the salt in the margarita to melt... Nice decor, but Sortino's really fell flat with their food. We went two days in a row during our stay at Kalahari, and this place definitely wasn't my choice either time. Almost everything we had during dinner was average or a letdown. The wings were dry. The Caesar salad was boring and the breadsticks were rocks. The mussels marinara were flavorless and definitely not fresh. My linguine with white clam sauce was on the better side, but it lacked proper seasoning. I had to add a healthy portion of red chili pepper flakes. I will say that we enjoyed the garlic bread, and the kids really liked their personal pizzas. Breakfast was even worse. We came for Kenya's Birthday Party, a kids' breakfast buffet event featuring fully costumed and presumably miserable employees. The scrambled eggs were blocks, the sausage was dry, and the fruit wasn't that fresh. The best part was probably the cereal. The ONLY star goes to our server, Brianna, who made this experience not become a total disaster. We tried dining here last evening and there were no open reservations. Fine, we walked down to see if anything was open. My husband asked the hostess and she said "sorry we close in 20 minutes." Okay fine so we walked over so B Lux and just wanted to double check on OpenTable where we happened to find 4 open spots to dine. So we clicked on 9:30 and walked back down. The servers excuse was "our manager just extended our time and opened up more slots." That's fine except all the tables that had reservations in the bar area were STILL not filled at 9 pm. ALSO...per our server the time gets extended quite frequently due to high volume. So I'm shocked that as a manager or a management team they would not have been in the know about the uptick in reservations. Coming from this industry, it's important to know surrounding events, bookings, etc to base staffing off of. Clearly this management team lacks training and basic knowledge. To top it off, the one hostess decided to hold her little pad up to speak to I assume a male manager about me because within seconds they both looked over. Customer service 101.. you can be frustrated with customers all you want but to speak about them in front of them is wrong and unprofessional. Luckily I didn't feel the need to walk up and call them out but I can assure you I will NEVER return to this place. Then I had a snarky female manager walk over to try and backpedal on hours, etc. I pointed out her ignorant staff member and proceeded to tell her do not bother with me. In the meantime, a gentleman had made reservations for 8:45 and was still not sat at 9:15 and when he asked .. the hostess said yeah so did everyone else. Again, the lack of common sense and professionalism in this place astounds me. We were sat at a table, with no silverware, which we did get from our server. Our server, Brianna, was their saving grace. The food took forever, but I had assumed considering how overbooked they were. Drinks took a bit. Calamari portion was meek. Salad was very light on toppings. My husbands soup was not only cold but had zero flavor. My son wanted pepperoni pizza and received no pepperoni. We ordered a margarita pizza and it literally looked like a cheese pizza. No tomatoes, no basil. This place literally needs new management who knows what they're doing. There is no communication and lack of direction. Also, as someone who has managed a restaurant to assume that the staff should stay extra is wrong. After spending an amazing day in the waterpark we wanted to stay onsite to have dinner. It was late (9pm) but the restaurant was kind enough to give us a 9:30 reservation - thank you Sortino's. In terms of the food, some of it (baked ziti and manicotti) was good but not great, and other dishes like the spaghetti and meatballs were not good at all. The meatballs were good but the pasta and sauce were tasteless. The service, unfortunately, was subpar, and although I usually tip 20% or higher I was planning on leaving a 15% tip for our waitress as she hardly stopped at our table after taking our order, in addition, she was not helpful when she was at the table. Luckily for the waitress, the restaurant automatically adds a 20% tip onto the bill. My family will probably go back to Kalahari again, however, we'll skip Sortino's and go to another restaurant for dinner. read more
