( Not a big deal just tacky and off putting ). I did find the prices high for being a salon in the middle of nowhere . However I only come here for an emergency. So it don't bother me to much. However it's grossly overpriced. Sterilization issues : My towel was damp and he said it was from being cold. I don't find this feasible. I also didn't appreciate him using a comb he took Out from a dingy draw. Also , when a place has a small percentage of reviews for the time in business . I've been getting great haircuts here for the last few years. I am an Indian girl with lots of wavy hair. I've gone from short bob to mid length layers to bob. Juan cuts my hair and he understands what I am looking for and does a great job each time. He is an expert. I have visited this salon twice during these Covid times and found the salon to be following all protocols and very clean and very safe. So, I walked in to this place around 11 am today. As I was entering, a woman and her child were also entering so I held the door and walked in behind them. The patron I'd held the door for was clearly a regular as she went right in and sat down in one of the styling chairs and began a friendly, familiar conversation with the hair dresser. The other stylist was with someone at the time and since no other staff members were present, I eventually walked away from the front desk and sat in one of the waiting area chairs and cracked a magazine. After about 20 minutes had gone by and no one had so much as said a word to me, I thought maybe they had assumed I was with the woman and child, but since she and the stylist began ordering lunch together (she was getting a dye job and I'm guessing that takes a long time) and they continued to ignore me, I realized that was not the case. In the mean time, the stylist who was working on someone when I walked in finished with her patron and began cleaning her station. So, I assumed my turn would be coming soon. This was ALSO not the case. In fact, when she finished cleaning her station, I watched her walk over to the sinks and wash HER OWN HAIR. She then sat in the chair at her station and began styling (once again) HER OWN HAIR. At this point I was dumbfounded. I thought, "is this really happening?". Could I have fallen asleep in my chair and now was dreaming about the lack of service I was receiving? Sadly, it was no dream. The stylist finished with her own hair and then shot a look at the other stylist and let her know she was "gonna take off for a while" and that she would "be back later". Sure enough, she did just that. She took off. While she was styling her own hair another employee entered carrying what I assume was his lunch with him. He proceeded to walk into another room and I only saw him once more when he exited said room only to enter anther room marked "employees only" or something to that extent. In all, I remained in the salon for over an hour (my fiance goes here and she swears by them - why? I wouldn't know based on this experience), on several occasions getting up and walking around to make sure they knew I was there. Finally I realized, "wow...they're really not going to acknowledge me". So I walked out. After somwhere between an hour and 90 minutes, I left without one single word or even a look from any of the 3 staff. I'm sure other people have received good care here because they have some rave reviews, but not me. I'm going to try to convince my fiance to go elsewhere too. This was, by far, the most shockingly bad experience I've ever had at a barbershop/hair salon in the 35 years I've been on this planet. read more

I was a blonde last year in early to mid 2016, and Yanira was my main colorist. I absolutely loved my blonde! It takes time and patience to maintain and get the right blonde (especially on Asian hair), and Yanira definitely practices that to the T. I remember I made the awful mistake of going to a different salon (because it was closer) to get my blonde highlights redone, and that particular stylist butchered it. I went back to Yanira a week after, and she managed to fix the brassiness/mess that occurred at that other salon. I always had my hair appointments scheduled in advance with Yanira to maintain my blonde. This was perfect because I'm the type of person who always calls for an appointment last minute. I recently dyed my hair back to black with Yanira at the end of 2016, but I still go back for hair cuts. I'm definitely going back to her for my next experiment/ hair color change. read more

I normally don't write reviews but I had such a bad experience I just had to. First I want to say that I had been to the salon on several occasions already so I wasn't prepared for the experience I received. I have been trying to grow out my pixie and had been getting a haircut every few months to avoid the dreaded mullet since the back grows faster than the sides. My hair was finally at a point where it was almost the same length on all side and just wanted to have some of the bulk removed from the sides. The same person had been cutting my hair the whole time so I had nothing to worry about. WRONG! This girl textured my hair to the point where my chin length bangs are now just past my eyes! A veteran stylist would know that texturizing hair is DIFFERENT than taking off length. Texturizing is taking out weight and blending a cut rather than cutting off more length so you end up with an even shorter cut. And when I pointed this out to both her and the owner they argued with me and kept telling me that my hair wasn't that long to begin with and that I didn't understand what texturizing meant. I will NEVER go back and would not recommend this place to my worst enemy! Stay clear because is something goes wrong be prepared for a fight. read more

Absolutely the most talented stylist around! I met Juan in the Natick mall after watching him cut my husband's hair - I was instantly taken by his Edward Scissorhand-like style and was lucky that he had the next half hour free. The hair cut I received that day was amazing....so much so that I literally walked out of the mall and INTO A CAR because I was checking out my great cut in the reflection of another car. Needless to say, I was impressed. I left my stylist of ten years - and have not looked back. Having someone that you rely on to cut your hair is a very personal thing. I reloacted to MA 9+ years ago and when I first got here, I had previosuly been going to the same hair stylist for over 20 years. Imagine my dilema when I couldn't find a good stylist. As luck would have it, I first met Jaun 9 years ago at Dellario salons and have since been going back to him for all my regular hair cuts. Juan is patient, attentive to his client's needs, humorous, friendly, courteous and always does an excellent job. They say a cut only is 25 dollars and up but when Juan cuts your hair it's $50.00!! I got a 20% off because it was my first time and payed $40.00 for just a cut!! He said I shouldn't get my hair washed (even though it's included in the cut price) because I had washed it the day before so I thought he would make it cheaper for me but he didn't! I got there and was taken 15 minutes afyer the time I made an appointment for with Juan and even though he did a good job doing my hair, he overcharged me. If you're looking for something reasonable don't go to Juan. I have been going to Sotelo Hair Studio for about a year now. I have a pixie cut and, strangely enough, I've had difficultly finding stylists who can keep it well trimmed without cutting it too short. Yanira has no problem with that. I really didn't want to write this review, because this is a mom-and-pop establishment and I want to support that, especially given how friendly the owner and his daughters are. I had my hair cut by one of the daughters a month and a half ago, and this is, without exaggeration, the worst haircut I have ever had in my life. Directions: "give me a trim with long layers and a few long angles in front." She cut my curly hair with so many front angles, starting at my CHIN LEVEL. Now, I'm no expert on hair but even I know that you do NOT give Jennifer Aniston layers to curly-haired people. I now have one layer that has finally grown about an inch or so past my chin, and the next layer is just the rest of my hair that falls, no joke (I measured) 4.5 inches past that. I repeat: there are two layers now - one an inch past my chin and the next one a full 4.5 inches longer. I have never hated a haircut so much in my life. It has looked consistently ugly for a month and a half now. They broke the cardinal rule of curly hair cuts and I can never, ever go back. I'm not proud of writing a negative review of this family-owned salon, but I needed to give a fair warning to all in hopes that no one will endure the haircut fiasco that I did. read more

They use Goldwell color line here- very rich, shiny and conditioning for the hair. Everything was great- I also met the owner Juan, very nice gentleman. Sotelo's is the first salon that I have switched to in years, and I am so happy that I did. Juan is INCREDIBLE! Wow. I was practically jumping up and down before I left his salon. After almost 7 months of regrowth due to Covid and a general fear of bad colorists, I am so, so happy to have discovered this salon! We had a brief but informative session about what I ultimately wanted (and hadn't been happy with at past salons), and I could tell Juan knew exactly what I wanted. Incredibly friendly and helpful, Juan was a wonderful stylist - chatting when I felt like chatting, respectful when I needed quiet or respite- and most importantly - he gave me an incredibly natural hair color with highlights and lowlights, just as he promised! By the time it came to getting my haircut, I drew him a quick sketch of what I was looking for, but I already trusted him to do what he thought was best. I wasn't wrong! Fantastic experience!!! Let me start off by saying that I am rather picky with my hair, and have had a number of negative experiences at other salons. I decided to try this salon based on the Yelp reviews and the fact it is a family business. When I called, they were very accommodating with setting up an appointment. (I like to get impulsive / last minute haircuts, which are sometimes difficult to get.) When I inquired, they were upfront and honest about the pricing, and the final price matched the quote. Yanira colored and cut my hair. She was very friendly and I felt very comfortable at the salon. She helped me pick the right level of foils because I wasn't sure what level I wanted. She did an excellent job placing the foils throughout my hair! Also, she achieved the perfect length! I did not want too much off, because I am growing my hair out. However, I hate when the dead ends aren't fully cut off. To add to the experience, I am obsessed with the blow-dry - wavy like curls. It is very rare that I feel as happy with my hair as I am right now! I LOVE it! Highly recommend and I will be back. read more

My hair cut was done by Yanira that day and she did an amazing job. I tried many saloons and explained the professional by showing some pictures but had bad experiences every time. I thought I needed to pay those prices since she used to cut for the 5-star places along Newbury St. and 5th Ave. But I was reading the great reviews on Yelp for Sotelo and decided to give it a try. So glad i did! Yanira is excellent! The cuts are on par if not better than the more expensive cuts at the higher-end swanky salons. I am so pleased to have found this salon. I had been going to the same salon for 7+ years and when my old stylist quit it was time for me to find a new hair dresser. I saw Yanira for a full foil, cut, and blow dry. I have dark blonde hair naturally but keep it light blonde with highlights. Yanira did a really excellent job and the color looks very natural. She also did a really nice job with the cut, taking off a couple inches of dead ends and giving me long layers. Everyone was very friendly and the salon was bright and clean. The prices are extremely reasonable, and they offered 20% off for new customers. Even without the discount, the services would have been cheaper for a cut and full foil than I used to pay for a cut and partial. read more

I bought a Groupon last minute because my usual salon closed for the day because of the bombing and I was desperate for a haircut and color. Juan was great! Best hair cut I have had in several years. The true test for me is always doing my hair myself after the cut and my hair still looks great 2 weeks later. The color came out fabulous, he really blended the many different shades which I had.
