DO NOT GET HAIR DONE HERE!!! Where do I even begin... I have never been so unhappy with a service in my whole life. I came in and asked for my hair to be dyed a dark brown and they turned it BLACK!!! When I went back and asked them to fix it they told me it would cost hundreds of dollars to fix and told me it was my fault they dyed it black??? When she was washing my hair she scratched a breakout behind my ear and when I flinched because it hurt and asked her to stop she did it again. I've been getting my hair done on Newbury St. in Boston for over 5 years. A move west prompted me to search for something more convenient. Now, all of you know how hard it is to "break up" with your stylist! So after lots of hesitation and reading reviews, I tried True and was not disappointed. The team working on my hair stopped what they were doing to ask me questions about what I wanted. We came up with a plan, and I really appreciated their suggestions. I got a one-color process, and they held out a big streak of blond from previous highlights. Then, I got a pretty basic cut with hair a few inches longer than shoulder-length. Then, they stylist did it; she asked the fatal question: "do you want bangs?" Now who does that in 2012?! We chatted about it for a minute and I expressed my concern about not liking it or not being able to pull it back at the gym. She reassured me, then gave me some very moderate bangs that really highlighted my face. After she dried my hair, she showed me how to pull them back with a twist and a bobby pin and I looked so cute! Like all those photos I see on Pinterest! The color popped, the highlight was funky and I felt great. When I went to check out, I had a really nice surprise. YOU CAN PUT THE TIP ON YOUR CREDIT CARD!!! That is unheard of in Boston! My total pet peeve since EVERY other state in the Union allows you to tip your beautician/aesthetician/stylist on credit cards. BONUS. Honestly, this alone gave them a certain amount of leverage in my book. So after my sorority retreat, and my sisters saying that my hair looked better than they had ever seen it, I decided to go back for a 6-week touch up of my roots. A different team worked on my hair, but I got that collaborative approach again. This time, Kevin the owner was on my team. Pretty cool. It was a nice "maintenance" haircut, and overall took a whole lot less time, energy and $ than my old Newbury St. salon. I'll be back. read more

As a kid, getting a haircut was never an enjoyable experience. I dreaded hearing those words from my mother, "Cesar, I think it's time for you to get a haircut." Reluctantly, I have come to accept that long hair is just not a good look for me (despite a very cute phase during the mid 80's when I sported a particularly well-executed bowl cut). I have the polaroids to prove it! I was blessed with a full head of black, voluminous , straight, cut-me-too-short-and-I'll-stick-right-up kinda hair. A never-ending battle with short haircuts has ensued since my kindergarten days. The solution to my hair trouble? Well, I have tamed my hair with a perfect combination of strong-hold hair product and scheduled, recurring 3-week appointments to many-a-hair-salon. These days, I go to True Salon. I have been a customer at True for several years now. My first experience was at their Westborough location but after having moved, I now frequent their Framingham salon. The staff at True always greets me with a smile. Before I have the chance to "check-in", I usually get a "Hi, Cesar, how are you?" which, although I am sure is their standard greeting, always makes me feel as though they know exactly who I am and have been anticipating my arrival. My current stylist, Rachel, is awesome! Rachel, do you take notes when I talk to you and then review these before walking over to invite me to your chair? How do you remember all the stuff I tell you? Rachel always asks me how I want my hair cut. It is not because she doesn't already know how I normally do it, because I know she can give me a perfect hair-cut with her eyes shut at this point. She asks me because of the possibility that I might want to try the latest trend... I really appreciate that! I need a gentle push now and again... I'm afraid that my current faux-hawk type cut may be past its peak now (no pun intended). But I am sure that Rachel will help keep my hair style current. She has a very relaxed and calm way about her, gives great scalp massages and you can tell that she is artistic and creative... In short, I highly recommend True (and Rachel)! read more

I made my first appointment at True Salon & Color Cafe (then known as J. Winter) with a great deal of hesitation. Afterall, I had just graduated from college, gone to the same hairstylist for nearly four years and had experienced great haircuts and color. The staff of is extremely friendly and welcoming; but when I tried to indicate what type of cut I would like, my stylist seemed to grow uncomfortable. In the end, she was sort of able to give me the cut I wanted but not without HEAVILY pushing the salon's products. I understand that most/all salons encourage their customers to purchase their products--but I certainly felt like they were promoting to an extreme. Overall, I left with a mediocre cut feeling slightly uncomfortable that I wasn't willing to purchase their salon products on the spot. This place has potential, and I'm hoping I'll want to increase my rating after another visit...but until then I'll leave it plain and simple: A-OK. read more

The salon moved and changed names! They are now True Salon at 1291 Worcester Rd. The salon is very nicely equipped, and the staff is very pleasant. I was seen for a trim by Aubrey -- she was cordial, professional, and very skilled. She worked quickly, but didn't "cut corners". Aubrey was also very careful and efficient for the blow-dry -- no yanking, no re-work, no pain in my neck from trying to resist the brush. The cost was $40 + tip for wash, cut and dry. I was very happy with my haircut and plan to return to the same salon for the next trim. read more

I've been going to True Salon in Framingham for about a year and a half now and I have never left unhappy. Lisa is my go to gal. I'm pretty adventurous with my hair- I have natural dark brown wavy hair and I have been blonde and back. Lisa has always given me exactly what I wanted and she truly cares about how happy I am with the end result. The rest of the staff is very helpful and kind. They work well with each other, there doesn't seem to be salon drama. They help each other out and also make sure that you're comfortable and offer you coffee and tea. It would be nice if they had champagne! The prices are right in line with the quality. I don't find it over-priced, I actually think they offer a great deal! read more

I think that some of the negative reviews are flukes. I have been going to both the Westborough location and Framingham location for a couple of years now and have not ever been disappointed. Recent win? I write for a fashion blog and let the readers choose which haircut would be a reader's next style. After the voting had commenced we went to True Salon to get her hair did. They took the photo (the Gwyneth Long Bob) and they executed it beautifully. To boot? When you bring someone who hasn't been there before you both get $ off your service. It ended up being a great deal for both of us. Recent, Recent win? I had an appt to get my hair cut on a Monday. The Wednesday prior, I needed this hair off of my head. They fit me in that evening and Aubrey layered and thinned and textured my hair so wonderfully in fact that I cannot stop looking at myself in the mirror. As a side note: Aubrey was the one who washed my hair, cut my hair and dried my hair. They didn't swap like other reviewers said. This was my experience and it was a good one. I've been going here for a few years now, have always chosen to go to Jamie and have never been disappointed with the service there. The staff is all very friendly and accommodating, and my experience there has always been positive. Jamie is one of the two (?) color specialists there, so she's gotten extra special training and certifications, and she's fun and friendly and just a gem! I opted for some red highlights in my blondish hair two times ago, a little hesitant, but Jamie encouraged me when I told her I was thinking of it, and I let her do her thing, and it came out great! OK I received a wash and blow dry and I told the girl not to put anything in my hair she shook her head yes and then put two different products in my hair which now I have to wash my hair in two days instead of 4+ I was charge close to $70 because they told me it took so long for them to dry my hair....My fault I should've asked the cost she did a great job but my hair is flat I overpaid and I'll never go back. I waited until the last minute to find a salon to style a wig for a Halloween costume. I called the salon on Halloween. They had an opening & happily took on the project of cutting & styling a synthetic wig I'd purchased on Amazon. They looked at photos online to understand the look I was going for. When I went to pick up the wig, I found it to be styled exactly as requested. The wig came out great! They even put the wig on me as part of the service. I couldn't be happier with the outcome! I was referred to this salon my an old colleague of mine. I was able to get some money off by being referred which was fantastic. Since then I go every couple of months for a wash, cut, and shine on treatment. Each time I go it is a perfect experience and I have been seen by many different stylists, all really great. Rebecca is by far my favorite though. I have easy hair, straight and fine, and usually get basically the same cut. But when Rebecca did my hair, whatever she did was fantastic; I got so many compliments. I am in love with the shine -on treatment - it's like a stain for your hair rather than dye but makes just as big of a difference and is so inexpensive. True Salon really doesn't care about their customers. I had an appointment the end of March, early April which was postponed until May for obvious reasons. My appointment in May was also postponed for obvious reasons. An email was sent out when they received notice they can re-open the business, the email said that they would be contacting people with an existing appointment, and to call if you hadn't heard from them. So I called and couldn't get an appointment until July. You'd think an email that was sent I would be able to get an appointment sooner, since I am one who had an appointment. This tells me they really don't care about their customers and they didn't honor or was TRUE to what the email said. I was able to find another salon that I was able to get an appointment within a week. AVOID THIS SALON!! read more

I've been going to True Salon since it was J. Winter. Andrea was the best. I even started taking my teenage daughter there (bonus for recommending another client!). Then we both had to have Andrea. However, she moved on (so sad!!), so I tried Rachel, who did a great job with my highlights blending low lights with highlights. The cut was just ok. Then I strayed to another salon where I got a bad haircut which brought me right back to True Salon where I tried Rebecca.... I LOVE the cut Rebecca gave me. She nailed it first time! My bangs are better than ever, and the cut even looks good a few weeks out. She is a designer and worth every penny. I'll be back! read more

I work nearby and needed a quick blow dry/blow out. I called and they scheduled me within an hour. When I arrived they offered me coffee, tea, and water while I waited. They carry Aveda products which I appreciate b/c that's what I use for my hair normally. My hair stylist was really good. She knows a lot about hair and we were able to chat about products I have tried and what should try. She asked what type of hair I have and she used the right products based on that. I can tell b/c I have very dry, curly and somewhat damaged hair, but my hair is still super shiny and looking great 3 days later. I booked an appointment to have an express keratin treatment there too. I will also return for an Olaplex treatment. When I return, I will buy every product they used it my hair to blow it out because it looks and feels great. I am obsessed with my hair and they did a great job! read more

Not Impressed. This place is annoying. My sister LOVES it, but its really not for me. One person colors your hair, and another person cuts it?? Sorry.. I just don't think thats a recipe for success, especially when you have curly, layered hair like me. The girl who highlighted my hair was new... she had to be... it took her 2.5 hours!!! SERIOUSLY - 2.5 hours to highlight my, at the time, shoulder length hair is RIDICULOUS. Then the woman that cut and blew dry my hair would NOT stop talking about herself!! I mean whatever.. I know stylists like to chat, but it was like she was "one-upping" me ever chance she got!! The only reason I went in there was because I had a coupon and it still cost over $100. The reason for one star and not two... the color washed out. I had to go to my old hair dresser (who I NEVER should have strayed from to begin with), about 4 week earlier than I normally would have. Skip this place... their coupons lure you in, but its really not worth the aggravation. read more

I had been a customer of this salon for almost 6 years. However, after the last few visits when I was left disappointed with either the cut or color I decided to move on. The place is clean and staff is friendly but the talent is lacking. Quite a few of their good stylists left over the past 2 years leaving many junior people that are just not up to my standards. I've had to come back twice in the past year for color correction. The prices are high for the level of service that's being provided, I can get a $50+ cut on Newbury St and it'll be a top notch stylist unlike here. read more

Meeting a new stylist each time I have been has been great. They have all offered products and suggestions on how best to style my hair. The salon environment is really nice and comfortable. Very unhappy. I created a Yelp account for this. I always ask for a quote before I have my hair done. After asking multiple times I was assured that my cut would be in the 120-130 dollar range. Later, I was charged a rate that was about 40 dollars higher. When I complained, about 15 dollars was taken off for a service that they had accidentally added. Still, the rate was much higher than they had quoted. I was quoted the amount after the hairdressers had seen my original hair..... My cut was very nice and the color was pretty good considering I was lightening very dark hair. That is why the 3 stars. read more

I've been coming to True for two years now and cannot say enough good things. I love that I can book an appt on my schedule (which is crazy) and know that any stylist I'm assigned to will have the same sweet demeanor, eye for perfection, and great ability. I go to them for haircuts, color, and special event styling. Their customer service is excellent, pricing is fair, and they seem like they are actually happy to see me (and evetyone else). Great overall experience. I am a guy so going to a Salon for a fade seemed a bit much, but after my last haircut at a "cheap" place I wanted to make sure it was done properly. Paid $40 w tip and will def be going back. Stylist was very friendly, didn't rush, and made great conversation during the cut. Not sure how this review will benefit woman as to I get a very easy cut, but of their experience resembles mine I am positive they would be very satisfied. Good find and two thumbs up! read more

Every visit starts with a consult with multiple team members to make sure they fully understand your intentions and they always deliver. I paid $$$ for hair coloring and the end result was disappointing. I saw barely any noticeable difference in the color and patches of my hair were still black. The stylist insisted it was the lighting that made it look like the color was absent, but she was wrong. The next day Rebecca, the manager, acknowledged the patches of black hair but only offered to do highlights. I asked for a refund and was directed to the owner. The owner has been a scrooge about refunding my money. He tried putting the blame on me and found every excuse under the roof to not refund my money. Poor customer service. Totally not worth the ~$100 I spent here. Maybe worth $10. Stay away! read more

I went to True Salon in Framingham on June 17, 2011 for a cut, color and extensions. I was charged a total of $358.50 which included $200 for the extensions, $118.50 for the color & cut and $40 for shampoo and conditioner. In addition, I also paid a gratuity of $40. That night, I began to experience some discomfort from the extensions, but I figured I had to get used to them. By Friday of the following week (exactly one week after visiting the salon), I called to tell them that the extensions were unbearable. My head was extremely itchy, my scalp was bruised from the thick glue used to attach the extensions to my natural hair and one of my extensions had already fallen out (They were guaranteed for 3-4 months). I also could not brush my hair because I couldn't get the glue through the brush or comb. I explained everything to the salon receptionist who then went to speak with the owner. She said all they could do was either put back the extension that fell out or remove all the extensions for no charge. I was beyond angry. When you pay $200 for something and you have a reaction to it that was not explained to you (and you can't even brush your hair), the least you should receive is a credit. But instead, all I was offered was the removal of the product for no additional fee. Why would I ever pay a fee to have something removed that I was not happy with in the first place? (In the end, my friend ended up ripping them out of my head for me). I then went on True's website to see if there was any information about a guarantee. What I found was a page on extensions which said that each extension costs $20 and INCLUDED shampoo, conditioner, styling products, haircut, brush, and 18% gratuity. None of those were offered to me. I have been going to this salon for a year and now I never want to go back. At first, I felt the business had a responsibility to at least give me a credit for $200 (the price of the extensions) towards another service. However, I am so upset by their lack of customer service, that I never want to set foot in their salon again and I just want my money back. It is now 12 days after the extensions were put in and 5 days after my friend took them out and my scalp is still unbelievably itchy and scratched up. read more

TOTAL NIGHTMARE!!! I went to the True Salon in Framingham based on a review I had read about Jamie who is a senior colourist at True Salon. This was THE ABSOLUTE WORST hair salon experience I have ever had in my life! First of all, the place is a total RIP-OFF. I told them exactly in detail over the phone what I wanted to make sure I got a quote of cost of services that would actually be close to what I would end up paying, due to past experiences where I was quoted a much lower cost then it ended up being. I am a hairdresser (not currently working due to health problems)...so I have a fairly good idea of how to explain what I want done to my hair. I brought in MANY pics including some showing my natural blonde hair colour because I had dyed it red and after a few years got tired of it and wanted to go back to my light blonde. I also asked for black shading on the bottom of my hair underneath the top layers to add depth. And, some pink tips on my bangs and a few streaks of it in the front and sides. I gave pics of both the blonde shade I was going for and the black and pink as well, to show them how I wanted them my hair to look. I was stuck in this salon for just over FOUR hours (rediculous!) while they made me sit forever and completely RUINED my hair! I was quoted $60 to $80 over the phone, when I went to pay I was charged...get this...$175!!! I was very unhappy with the way my colour came out and expressed that! I was assured that they would FIX it at no cost and I believed them.."what a fool believes." My hair was not light blond it was BLACK with a few tiny blond streaks and a few purple NOT PINK streaks throughout. NOTHING like what I asked for. I don't know what amazing coloring courses Jamie has had but she does NOT know what the hell she's doing. I really liked her but let's face it she totally FU***'D up my hair! I must say that Aubrey the receptionist was extremely nice and Lisa who cut my hair did an awesome blow-out and cut and was a doll as well. Anyway, I was told to give my hair a little time to oxidize and the blonde should come out more...did NOT happen. Now, I made an app. to come back and was told they would try to lift some of the black off my hair but I was very concerned as my hair had some previous damage from dying it red and it's fine. thin and dry. So I was very nervous about this colour removal and what possible damage it could cause. Well, unfortunately I wasn't able to keep the appt. because I developed an illness and had to go in for surgery. After that I got the flu and then walking pneumonia...the whole time I called them explaining what was going on and was told not to worry and when I was better to call to make an appt. So....sorry this is so long...I finally called to make the appt. but Jamie was on baby leave so I asked to have Lisa as I had been very happy with what she did so I made the appt. So, I get there and I'm told I can get $20 off the process, I'm like WHAT? You told me you would FIX how you SCREWED UP my hair..and was told well, that's if you do it within one week from your appt. I'm like your kidding right? NOT ONE time was I EVER told this and I called many times to apologize for being sick and unable to come in and to MAKE SURE they would still fix my awful BLACK hair. I am extremely pale and naturally blonde so you can imagine what black hair looks like on me...I looked like a cadaver. So long story short...if you want your hair TOTALLY RUINED and enjoy being TOTALLY RIPPED off by very DISHONEST people...go to TRUE Salon. Such an ironic name because they are anything but TRUE, they are dishonest people, who will lie to you and take your money and NOT stand behind their BAD work! I really would not mind paying a lot for an excellent hair style but $175 for black hair when I wanted blonde and am blonde to begin with??? HORRIBLE! Aside from Lisa and Aubrey this was one of the worst and most costly BAD experiences I have ever had in my life.
