I love love my hair once again Linda did an amazing job. I've been going to mirage hair for 30 years. I have since moved to Plymouth but I still take a day off to drive up to Natick for Linda to work her magic! Being greeted by Melissa, Kim and Tony it feels like I'm going back home. Obviously I have had times I had to go to another salon when I can't get up there but Linda always makes room for me in her very busy schedule. This place is not just a service salon to me they are friends and family to me. My hair has never looked so healthy, I only trust linda before a big event and I am off on vacation soon so I had to head up to Mirage as Linda never disappoints. I've had to leave in the middle of a hair cut for emergency situations they are always so caring. This place is a gem and that's rare and hard to find! I can already see how wonderfully talented the younger stylist are, they keep up with all the latest trends and techniques. Sometimes I have a nutty idea and I trust Linda to give it to me straight whether it's a good idea or not. Honestly and recommendations on what would look good on me is why I keep going back. So thank you Linda and it was great seeing friendly faces of Mirage if you need a new look or a quick cut mirage is the place. I've been going to Mirage for a long time. Linda is my hair dresser. She's honestly incredible. She's been doing hair forever and it totally shows. I'd feel 100% comfortable with any stylist at Mirage because they've ALL worked there for such a long time. It speaks to the type of salon they are. They are kind, friendly, fun and welcoming. I have had all different stylists over the years when I've moved, and I ALWAYS find a way to return to Mirage and see Linda. I've gone to salons over the years that cost 2 or 3 times what I pay at mirage, and have been totally disappointed. You can't even put a price tag on the years and years of experience each of the stylists at mirage have. They are so reasonably priced and it just speaks to their down-to-earth, humble nature. I find some members of the staff to be very unprofessional. I feel like I'm in the schoolyard with a few bullies. I once missed my schedule appointment and a member of the staff called me and started yelling at me. Whenever I'm there I get hostile vibes from her and from her buddy that also works there. I went back to my old salon for about 9 months and the commute was too long so I decided to go back to Mirage. My stylist was obviously mad that I had gone back to my former stylist and that I was now sitting in her chair. She asked me why I wasn't going to the other salon with additional comments showing her animosity. I have never come across such childish behavior in any salon that I have been to. I am free to go wherever I please and I am a paying customer. I am wondering if the owner has any control over this cliche that thinks they have control and rights to reprimand and offend customers of his business. read more

Having found Mirage through Yelp myself a few years back, I'v decided to write my own review. I've lived in 4 states, have traveled for work where I sometimes end up getting haircuts in hotel salons, and THIS place is my ideal salon! Katie is my stylist and she always does a WONDERFUL job. I almost always ask for something a little different and every cut is great in a different way. It's a nice touch that they offer tea, water, or cappuccino and cookies and a great magazine assortment (as a lot of salons do). But, for me, it's all about the product--how you feel about your 'do when you walk out the door...and Katie gives great results! The other major selling point IMHO, is your level of comfort while getting shorn, and they're down-to-earth, unpretentious, and easy-to-talk to. 100% of the quality of Newbury Street, without the attitude. Prices are very reasonable. My cut and color is $90. I've paid far more, for far less elsewhere. Give Mirage a try...with Katie in particular! read more

I love it here!! Andrae is seriously AMAZING!! I drive all the way from Woburn to get here as I follow him pretty much everywhere. Today has been a long day already and he just totally made my day by creating a perfect pink (under my bright blonde highlights) and it didn't take 4 hours to create. He's the best colorist I know and I'm lucky to have him. The salon itself is adorable. It's full of big funky mirrors, clean environment (bathroom included) and stylists who are stylish without being "out there." I like myself a little color, but nothing too extreme and it's nice to see a balance here. A bit funky but also classical. A great mix. Come on by, you won't regret it. read more

I used to go to an excellent hair stylist in Somerville, but since I've recently moved, I needed to find a stylist closer to me. After looking up this salon on Yelp, I decided to go to it and I dragged my husband along. We both have very thick, difficult, wavy hair. We both saw Lana and she did an amazing job. I never expected our hair to look as good as it did. She sat me in her chair and we spoke at length about my hair and what I hoped to have done with it, and only then did she take me to wash my hair. I was so excited because I've been to so many other places where they have an assistant wash your hair first only to then have the stylist do a consult with your hair... when its wet. They receptionist and other staff members were great. They offered coffee/cappuccino/tea/water etc. and they wanted you to feel comfortable. read more

I had my hair colored and cut recently at Mirage, with Linda. After talking with me to get an idea of what I wanted (she asked lots of questions when I wasn't very clear!) in the way of color and hair style, she went to work - my hair is auburn that is greying fast - she was able to match my color, plus added some lighter streaks. And then when I told her I have been cutting my own hair for years, she gently persuaded me to trust her with the scissors, and "thinned" my hair in spots, plus shaped it and evened it out just enough for my taste. Just wanted to write a quick review praising Mirage and more specifically, Julie. Julie has been my go-to hairdresser for almost 20 years; she did my hair for prom back in high school, numerous Halloween up-dos, transformed me from a beachy blonde into a glorious redhead, then back to blonde when I was ready. I have lived all over the world and have always gone out of my way to visit Julie whenever I was back in the States. Most recently, she is getting me ready for my wedding in June. Mirage as a business, has always made me feel welcome and done an amazing job with my hair. The salon itself wasn't the fanciest that I have ever been in but the atmosphere was one I appreciated, one where people seemed to know their clientele by first name and chatted over coffee. There was also tons of product which is a plus in my book because I always like to purchase a little something to prove that I was at the hairdresser (this time? Shampoo to care for the platinum hair). I went in with the hopes of leaving, looking a touch better but what I looked like when I left? Well, let's just say I was OBSESSED with my color. I've decided to leave Mirage Hair Design, permanently. Things started out well, which is why I gave them 3 stars, and as my time continued at the hair salon I realized I no longer want to give them my business. I saw Linda, based off a recommendation from a friend. She is great for a cut and single color job. She cuts curly hair well too. Linda attempted Ombre in my hair and clearly didn't know the technique at the time. She colored the under hair portion of my hair red! She was not educated properly, if at all, at the time she did my hair. I expect my stylist to admit when she is not qualified to complete the hair style I desired. Arrogant. I moved over to Pam for cut and color at that point. Her hair is always fresh and funky and that was what I was looking for. I felt awkward about it since they are in the same salon but did it anyways. The salon receptionist made it painless for me, THANK YOU! Pam could never get the colors I wanted to stick in my hair. She was honest w/me from the start about the hair not taking well to the color I wanted. I still don't understand why certain colors won't stick in my hair, especially since many people have dark curly hair and have funky colors like purples and pinks. The "Wrap Up" --The only stylists I've worked with are Linda and Pam. Linda is good for a cut and one color job. Pam is exciting and bold with her colors. A fun personality in general. I can't go back to Mirage Hair Design b/c I've harbored feelings of resentment for the salon for quite some time. It no longer meets my needs and I'm hoping to find the next best salon! read more

Katie is terrific. I'm a guy and she gives me an excellent hair cut. I used to go to a barber, but I don't need my hair to look like my Dad's did when he was my age. Katie gives me a modern and stylish hair cut that makes me look good and professional. There hasn't been a day that someone hasn't stopped me to ask me who cut my hair, how amazing it looks , and my new color is exactly what I was looking for. I set up an appointment to get my long hair chopped off, I asked to be set up with someone who has experience cutting short hair. My hair dresser was Kim, and I can absolutely say it was an amazing experience! I was incredibly nervous, and she took the time to talk me through how she was going to make the cuts, which put me at ease and I trusted her! By the end I was laughing and felt like I had just spent an hour with an old friend! Best hair experience ever! Reasonable prices, amazing service all around! I won't go anywhere else. Julie cut my hair and was wonderful - she listened and did what I needed. However, the front desk staff treated me like a bag lady. I waited patiently to pay while the girl chatted with her customer and then she acted like I was interrupting, giving me filthy looks and sighing. I left a $10 tip for Julie (only had a trim for $45) - hope she got it and the girl seemed surprised I didn't want to change it into 2 $5's. I recently moved to MA and needed a haircut & highlights desperately. I chose Mirage Hair Design after reading all the great reviews on yelp, however, that turned out to be a big mistake ($160 mistake). My experience was nothing remotely close to what I had hoped for. Rianna was my stylist and Andre was her assistant during my appointment. Although Rianna was a very sweet girl, her six years in the business didn't reflect on the final product. If only I had realized it was a botched job at the salon, I probably would have opted for a refund. It was only after I got home, I realized how awful I looked - in fact, I immediately made an appointment at another salon to get it fixed. When she asked me what look I was going for, I told her I wanted a natural look (caramel and barely-there-dark-red highlights against my dark hair) -something appropriate for a professional work environment but instead I ended up looking like a teenager with BRIGHT red and blonde highlights that started an inch below my roots. In addition, the service I received from Andre was very unprofessional. He was very rude and disconnected - he certainly didn't want to be at work. Needless to say, I won't be going back to this Salon. read more

I used to go to New Image salon in Burlington and I had a hair stylist I really trusted. But when I moved, I had to find a new place to go. I am very particular about my hair, one mistake, like cutting too much of my hair off, and I will never go back. I went here the first time to get bangs, which was a big change for me. Lana was recommended to me by a friend and she did a wonderful job. She cut my bangs exactly the way I wanted them and didn't take too much off in general length. I have been going to Pamela Kiley for a few years and she is the absolute best colorist around! She is an expert with blending the color so its just perfectly even. I went to her initially to fix my hair it was layered and all broken on the ends and very unhealthy. I get more compliments now that she has been cutting and coloring my hair. She is very professional and knowledgeable with both long and short hair. You can trust her to suggest new styles and color without hesitation! I have been frequenting Mirage since I move to the are 8 years ago. I get my hair cut by Julie with an occasional cut by Linda. They both do a good job, and I trust them with my hair, which is not an easy thing. They will do what you want but you can ask them for advice and they won't let you look bad. Everyone is friendly. I've been going to Elaine for almost 10 years now and love this place. I started going there because it was right next door to where I worked, but I've continued to go even after switching jobs and now having to travel about 30 minutes. It is definitely worth the drive. Turnover seems to be very low, as I've seen the same staff members remain year after year (and I've seen shampoo girls move up to stylist positions). Everybody seems to enjoy working there, and the owner seems to be around most times I've been in. Most importantly, I've never had a bad haircut at Mirage. I have been going to Linda for twenty years and I have never been disappointed. I drive almost 1 hour to my appointments. She always has good advice and she knows what I want as well as what works with my hair. For the past 5 years she has been coloring and highlighting my hair which has been difficult since I have a lot of red undertones.
