Itʻs "Great Performances". What a misleading title. I had one situaton where the server said something off colored to me about my race and they thought it was funny. Thatʻs just one occurrence. Another time I wathced their plain clothes boss eat off the rack of food that was set aside for my teamʻs company. 3 times is not the charm. They are the worst catering company Iʻve experienced from LA to London. I donʻt know how they are still in business.

In 2022, I hired Great Performances to help celebrate the launch of my book at the iconic Strand Bookstore in NYC. I flew in friends and family for what was meant to be a milestone moment. A day before the event, I contracted COVID and, heartbreakingly, had to cancel. The contract clearly stated that in cases of force majeure--like illness--neither party would be at fault. I no longer lived in NYC, so rescheduling wasn't viable. I reached out, respectfully and in good faith, to discuss paying a portion of the nearly $6,000 charge. Instead of any further acknowledgment, I was ghosted. They stopped answering my emails entirely. No returned calls, no response--just silence. I then worked through American Express, who initially agreed I shouldn't be liable. But after years of back and forth, I was told the full charge would stand. Throughout this time, I have yet to speak with a single human being from this company. This isn't just poor customer service. It's a failure of integrity. They collected thousands of dollars for an event that never happened, provided no flexibility, no dialogue, no professionalism. I waited to write this review in hopes of resolution. That hope is gone. So is my money. If you care about decency, transparency, or the simple act of being treated like a human being--look elsewhere.

My partner's family is Guyanese as well. I was so thrilled to try her food that I reached out to see if she could do a sample tasting for us. I was ecstatic when she obliged. I wanted the tasting to be enough for two people. We decided to try the Chopped Cheese Empanada, Spinach & Cheese Empanada, Baked Chicken, Mild Shrimp Rasta Pasta, and Fried Whiting. We were charged $40 + tax + delivery fee. We ended up spending $49.52 which could be considered the price you pay for takeout. Nonetheless we were counting down the days until the food was delivered. Chef Adrii called to let me know that the store ran out of whiting so she suggested flounder because it had a similar texture. The packaging of our order was nice and it was adorned with flowers. I couldn't wait to try the food because everything looked and smelled good. We started off with the chopped cheese empanada which we couldn't taste the filling just the Turkey bacon. Maybe if the Turkey bacon was chopped smaller and there was more of a Bbq flavor incorporated into the ground Turkey we would've been able to taste the filling. The upside was that the empanada was crunchy which we liked. The spinach empanada was pretty tasty. The spinach was sautéed perfectly, but the empanada itself was on the oily side. We tried the baked chicken which was lackluster in taste. It was on the drier side and could've used more seasoning. We asked for mild Shrimp Rasta pasta, but it was extremely spicy. We both enjoy spicy food, but my hunny definitely has a better tolerance than I do. He even commented on how spicy it was. The shrimp was overcooked. We weren't thrilled with the fried founder. It was flaky and didn't have the same texture as fried whiting. Also I'm not a fan of citrusy flavors. The fish was too lemony for my liking. If I would've known she used lemon in her recipe I wouldn't have agreed to the fried flounder. Overall, I would have given this place a second chance under different circumstances. It's unfortunately we won't be able to.

It's almost a week later and we are still raving about them. They arrived on time and they brought everything they would need to decorate, prepare and serve our meal. I was worried when I learned they were coming because the Air BnB did not have a full kitchen; they only had a toaster oven and a stove top with two burners to work with but let me tell you they made magic! While my husband and I relaxed on the porch Z made sure we wanted for nothing. She checked on us while decorating, setting the table, and assisting Chef Eli. She even managed take pictures for us. The meal itself was incredible. Chef Eli curated a custom menu for us based on all the information provided by my husband. Everything was delicious and plated beautifully. If I had to pick my favorite part I would say I was blown away by the perfectly cooked filet mignon with the best mashed potatoes I have ever had, the wonderful combination of flavors in the shrimp tempura roll, and the decadently rich chocolate lava cake. Not only was the meal incredible but meeting Chef Eli and Z was a blessing. They were both friendly and warm, it felt like we have known them for years. By the end of evening we were sharing camping stories and camping site recommendations. We are so happy to have met them and can't wait to have them cook for us again in the future.
