Drink Station

Most people have never eaten a traditional "Döner Kebab," so they have no point of reference for comparison sake. But, having served with the US Army in Germany for several years, I probably ate my weight in "Döner!" These delicious treats were a favorite of soldiers, pretty much whenever they had opportunity to partake. The way I understand it, the "traditional" Döner Kebab, made with pieces of lamb and beef, and NOT "Gyro" meat, and NOT Chicken) roasted on a vertical spit, was not actually a staple, per se, in Turkey, but was introduced to "Westerners" and thus, soldiers in Germany. And, the rest they say, is history! Okay, so back to the question at hand: Is Soulard Gyro worth a visit? Well, the answer to that is a resounding "YES!" My wife and I have tried Soulard now a few times and every time, everything has been served up fresh and delicious. There is a single exception, but I'll get to that near the end of this review. On our first visit, we sat inside and ordered and ate our Döner Kebab. We ordered the chicken, since we wanted as close to a traditional Döner as possible. Also of note here, if we want to eat Gyros, we go to a Greek restaurant... because, they ARE Greek! Anyhoo, I digress... a little. Our second visit was again, a chicken meat Döner via takeout and it too was served fresh and delicious!! Our third visit was also takeout and also a chicken Döner, but this time, we both ordered the Döner Plate with chicken meat. The main differences being that, the entire Döner ingredients is placed atop a bed of Basmati Rice, and the bread is traditional Pita bread, versus the bread that gets filled when one orders a Döner Kebab. About our first visit... while there, we met the Owner, after he was kind enough to let us sample both the chicken and gyro meats. And, the Owner made it a point to come out and check on us, since we mentioned that I served in Germany and that we were introduced to Döner Kebab there. The Owner was personable and friendly. He spoke German with my wife and left us both with a great impression! We enjoyed the Quick Service Counter ordering and appreciated that the restaurant was very clean. The drink station, while simple, was clean and well kept! There was no "slime in the ice machine," and that's ALWAYS a major Plus! I could not tell whether or not the Iced Tea was brewed or bagged. It was already flavored with lemon, which I was not expecting, but once I realized what was going on with my palate trying to figure it out, it was just alright. That, and the single exception alluded to above are the ONLY reasons this review is a solid 4 Stars and not a solid in 5. So, what is the single exception? Well, once one has tasted an authentic, "traditional" Döner Kebab, nothing really compares; not even very well seasoned and tasty chicken meat roasted similarly! It just does not! All things considered, and especially if you've no point of reference for comparison, you will absolutely fall in love with the food offerings at Soulard Gyro! Especially if you order the chicken Döner!! One final note about the food: the "spicy" seasonings and sauces are NOT spicy. I'm talking "1" on the 1 through 10 heat scale. Forewarned is forearmed, so with regard to getting it spicy, you'd best take some Red Pepper Flakes along to douse shake into your Döner Kebab or Plate. I do hope you will give this eatery a try. You will not be disappointed!! And, remember, if you're not one to eat with your hands no matter what, get the Döner Plate and use a fork! Restaurants don't survive if we consumers don't go to them. So, go! Now! Go. Get. A. Döner!!! Eat well. Be well. Cheers!

This was on the door.

VERY SAD to find out they shut down. Hands down, the best gyro sandwich I've ever had!

Walk in and the place is clean, with plenty of seating. We ordered the Classic Gyro & Gyro Fries. The staff taking my menu was nice. The staff in the back was quiet even when preparing the food. The Classic was larger than expected and the bread was perfect in not too tough or too doughy. Never had shredded lettuce in a gyro but I did not mind. The meat was favorable but dry, almost as if it was precut and stored but I saw them cutting the meat. Not sure why it was dry, the traditional sauce helped out. The fries were excellent and crispy. Placed their spicy sauce on it and it just added to the flavor. Recommend asking if they can mix it up. Signs state it is open but they been around since 2009. Highly recommend them as I was looking for something not heavy as well as something outside of the traditional box I been eating at.

I like gyros. These were good gyros. Pita bread was soft and the beef/lamb meat was flavorful. They have 3 different flavors of tzatziki sauce. The garlic one tasted great with the hummus and olives. I felt good about the amount of meat and filling in the gyro. I left no crumbs! I tasted the greek fries which are basically fries with feta cheese. So they're very tangy and reminiscent of sour cream. A few desert options, like 3. The chocolate baklava was good honey and dark chocolate. The chocolate did not overpower the baklava flavor. Place is clean and has simple decor. Owner was nice and informative. He was happy to answer any questions that we had. He offered us a sample. I was able to taste the different tzatzikis. I enjoyed my food and time here, very pleasant vibe.

Solid gyro and doner sandwiches here and they're all halal!! So glad to have found this spot in plano - def a hole in the wall kind of spot. The owner and staff are all super friendly and constantly check up on you to make sure you're enjoying your meal. It is on the pricier side for a sandwich but they do stuff it with lots of meat to make sure you get full. I'll def be back here soon!

Disappointed. I came to Soulard after a gyro craving hit me and I felt confident Soulard would be good. I came in around 4pm to a light crowd, and immediately went to the self service kiosk to order. Skip the kiosk and just order with the cashier, the kiosk does not have everything, for instance I wanted all three tzatziki flavors and the kiosk does not allow for that option. I ordered the classic gyro easy lettuce, with all three tzatziki's ( classic, garlic and spicy) with an order of fries. My gyro looked very promising when I got it, I was ready to dig in. Upon my first couple of bites, my excitement vanished when I realized my gyro was not fresh, seems like the majority of the meat was from the outer layer that's of the meat spit , alot of hard crunchy pieces of meat, there were hardly any moist pieces which was so disappointing because the pita was fresh as were the veggies inside. The fries were delicious! Fresh, seasoned well, sadly it was the best thing I had there. I really enjoyed the classic and garlic tzatziki, the spicy I didn't like at all but I'm not the biggest fan of chipotles in adobo sauce and that's all I could taste. Service was great, it was clean in there though I wasn't the biggest fan of how the seating is set up. I do appreciate the variety of gyros they have, but I'm on the fence about returning, it filled the hole in my stomach but it was not the best first impression by far.

Great new Restaurant! Tried it a couple of times now, have really enjoyed it. We've tried the classic gyro, gyro bowl, and greek fries, all delicious! They have traditional white sauce but also a spicy one and a garlic one, the garlic is my favorite. The owner is really nice and friendly, service has been great. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

This was our first time at this recently opened restaurant. We use to come to this location on a regular basis when it was a seafood restaurant named "Rockfish". The friendly owner greeted us and helped with the menu selections. The food was prepared in part by the owner and after a short while it was brought out to our table. We ordered a gyro salad, 2 classic gyros and 2 baklavas. The food was average in comparison to other restaurants that offer Greek/mediterranean food in Plano. The restaurant was clean and spacious.

Decided to drop in on this new place today as I didn't really know what I wanted to eat for lunch. So why not give a new place a shot (in the old Rockfish spot). Very glad i stopped in. My meal was fantastic and the owner (Sam) was so nice to talk with. Glad he picked Plano as his new location coming from St. Louis. Sam was very passionate about his food and making sure you had a great experience!! Location- perfect central Plano Parking - plenty Cleanliness - very clean Employees - very friendly FOOD - amazing. Excellent quality and price point I had the gyro and it was spot on delicious Extras - Sam the owner brought out sample of the chicken and sauces ...chicken had so much flavor and the sauces were homemade and delicious...I'll be ordering chicken next time. I noticed they had falafel on a bowl in pictures...I asked Sam about them and he went into the kitchen made some and came back to offer them to us and another table. AWESOME!! I'll be going back like tomorrow!! Go try them and let Sam know I sent you.

I've been looking for an authentic döner kebab since I went to Berlin and now I've found it. So so so good! The restaurant was nice and clean and the employees were kind and helpful when ordering. I'll be back!

I appreciated their anniversary sale to try out a new place. Had a solid classic spicy gyro with beef/lamb meat for under $2.

Looking for something new to try in north Dallas we stumbled upon Platia Greek Kouzina in Frisco…read morejust across for the Stonebriar mall. Given it was 12:30pm we were happy to see this place was quite full but still had a table for the 2 of us inside. There is a terrace which might be an option for our next visit. Yea you read that right, we will definitely be back. For lunch we ordered the octopus appetizer which was nice a tender, perfectly grilled and simply served with the most perfect vinaigrette. Nothing more than a little squeeze of lemon over it and you could have brought me a dozen more. But we had to save room for our mains. I chose the gyros salad and my wife the baked haddock with Greek potatoes and string beans. Both dishes were perfect. Not too fancy and just what the doctor ordered. Overheard several tables around us that they were repeat customers so we must have stumbled on to something good. So if you are thinking Greek, check this place out. You won't be disappointed

We enjoyed Platia tonight! I haven't had much Greek food, so it was a fun experience trying…read moresomething different. I ordered the Pastitsio with potatoes and gigantes. The main dish just wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't because it wasn't well made, it was more of a texture preference for me. The potatoes were a little overcooked for my liking, although a friend at our table said his were great. I did, however, love the gigantes! Our table also shared the Trio of Dips (tirokafteri, hummus, and skordalia), the moussaka, the Brazilian steak, and the Aegean stuffed pepper. The tirokafteri and hummus were both delicious. The skordalia wasn't for me, but that's simply because it's essentially a chilled potato dip, not a reflection of the restaurant. The Brazilian steak was fantastic, great flavor and cooked perfectly. The stuffed pepper and moussaka also got a thumbs-up from our group. I believe our server's name was Uli, and he was good. He took the time to explain several dishes. Greek food probably isn't at the top of my personal favorites list, but this one was ok.
