I lived in Ohio for about 2…read moreyears, so I had honestly lost hope of finding good soul food once you get past Georgia. But this establishment exceeded my expectations by a mile! The food was well-seasoned, full of flavor, and the portions were phenomenal. We arrived about an hour before closing and were still served fresh, cooked-to-order food that tasted amazing. This is easily one of the best soul food restaurants I've been to in the country. I highly recommend it! The service was welcoming, and the music created a great atmosphere as well.

Where am I, anyway? Googling the neighborhood of X-Marks the Spot - Chestnut Hill & West End…read more Sandwiched between row homes, on this quiet, tree lined street, is a little slice of soul heaven. Only a few tables, and one sheet of food pictured paper menu, sits on the counter, where you order and pay. I had some minor gripes, but they're livable (in my book). First of all, I felt the music was a wee bit too loud. I know though, had I expressed this, the volume would have been lowered and no questions or weird looks, asked. Let's get down to the chow, yes lawd - fried fish, collards & mac n' cheese. Portion sizes, ample - enough for breakfast the next morning. Thin, crisp, spiced right coating on that perfectly cooked fish. X's rendition of mac n' cheese, the addition of chili's and the gooey factor, there.. so there. Don't even get me started on their greens. Hope no one sees this, but.. I drank the greens broth; that's how good it was. Cooked tender, a slight tang, a bit of heat and a faint touch of sweet. I was almost tempted to order another go round of collards, but my acid reflux started kicking in. One other gripe, which I feel should be mentioned was the hubby's spicy fried fish sandwich, where the heat came from a pouring of hot sauce onto the fish, suggest to kick it up a notch through the spice, instead. I'll be back, though - get me more of those collards and a box of antacids. Hey, you only live once.

I love coming to this restaurant. But this time traveling to Lancaster, I was sad to find out that…read morethey relocated to another spot not too far away from the old location. LOCATION: This new location sits on the second floor of a building. Steps are pretty narrow, so I can't imagine the elderly being able to climb a flight and a half of steps to enjoy such delicacies. So the new location is absolutely beautiful and more fancy than their old location. I love the ambiance. I went there on a Saturday at approximately 4:00 p.m. and there was Zero clientele. It seems like this place may have lost a lot of customers due to the location being on the second floor, but I could be wrong. I'll be honest, very clean, well lit with many slits of skyline above. I love the decor it still reminds me of Old San Juan, along with the Spanish music playing in the background. FOOD: amazing as always, even though I was struggling because they removed one of my favorite dishes from the menu, which was ropa Vieja. You get a lot of food on your plate, and all of the dishes are very flavorful and cook to order. CUSTOMER SERVICE: I love how attentive the staff were even though we were the only ones in the place. The waitress is very knowledgeable about the dishes and extremely accommodating. I wanted something simple to drink like a lemonade, and they made me some from scratch, so I was so thankful. I would definitely recommend coming to this place if you're looking for authentic San Juan dishes
