We tried a sampling of most all of the meats (tender & juicy Brisket, perfectly smoked Chicken, sliding off the bone Ribs, Hot Links, and tender, smoky Turkey). All items were cooked with the care and expertise of a person who understands the TIME necessary to achieve that smoky goodness. Just Terrific!! Sides were great, especially the stir fried Cabbage with jalapeños and a little meaty goodness in the mix. That stuff is a darned showstopper! I'd eat it - alone- every day. Finished off with the decadent goodness of a Buttermilk Pie that a grandmother would be proud of. Perfect cap to a Viking-style feast in the heart of Tejas! 4/10/25 at about 4:30 was the third time we had ordered from soulmans. Previously ordered brisket sandwiches for a painting crew which were cold and flavorless. Made the mistake of walking into the location on 4/10/25 and ordered a brisket plate with green beans and mashed potatoes. Paid $24 for the plate which looks like cafeteria food! The brisket was grey looking, old, cold and completely flavorless. Had to have been days old! The green beans are obviously canned store bought discount beans. Mashed potatoes were tasteless and flavorless. I would not feed this slop to my dogs and no one could even pay me to return to soulmans! read more

Solid choice amongst standard buffet-line BBQ options! Friendly meat-cutters and servers helped us with our OutaSight Special and Rib Plate. The chopped briscuit was lean, and I saw them trim off fatty edges that many BBQ places would've simply ground into the chopped meat. This impressed me right away! The sandwich also came with a loaded baked potato, and it was great! My ribs were fantastic, and the 1/2 Slab (with okra & potato salad sides) filled me up! Bottom Line: Exceptional service, decent bbq too. My coworkers told me that trying Soulman's Bar-B-Que was a right of passage so after landing at Love Field I headed straight to this location in Rockwall. I tried to blend in and look like a local but I must have looked out of place because the lovely employee walked me through the selection process pointing out where I could grab a tray, find drinks, get sauces, etc. I appreciate that she immediately could tell I would need some guidance along the way and she did it in such a charming way. I would go back to Soulman's again based on my interactions with her alone - her seamless and natural hospitality. Since everything is bigger in Texas I figured I better go big or go home. Given that, I got the "Build Your Own BBQ Plate" with two meats. After all, I couldn't go to Soulman's and just get one meat! I tried the ribs and chicken and for a side I went with a baked potato with all the fixin's (aka a loaded baked potato). The ribs were good, the chicken was average and needed sauce and the potato hit the spot. One aspect I don't want to overlook is that they have Coca-Cola products so I was able to get a big 32 oz. cup of diet Coke. That really hit the spot. Found a beetle in my spicy ranch beans, don't get Texas toast with my combo plate; everything after that was very disappointing.

They advertise vegetarian options for dinner, but all they really were were sides, and not dinners at all.

2nd visit to this location. The service was very friendly, personal and speedy. They were in prices of cleaning and sanitizing the dining room when we got there. Food was delicious, correct temperature with generous servings. The employees there, today around 1 on Saturday, July 26, 2021, enjoy their job and truly like the customers. My wife picked up dinner from here tonight and it is pretty bad. Brisket was grey like it was boiled it was very chewy and no flavor. Beans tasted like they were burnt and tasteless. Sausage was tasty, but that was it. Waste of money wish I could get a refund. read more

We've been using them for 5 years to custom smoke our turkey. We always get around a 14 lb turkey and have never had an issue. Today, I picked up our turkey and it went from 14 lbs to an 8.8 lb. Turkey! I called them and spoke with the manager and all he could tell me is that they shrink 25%. Well in the past 5 years we've come home with a big turkey just like we dropped off. For the manager, 25% of 14 is 3.5 lbs NOT 6 lbs shrunk! I'm livid. I'm going to have to go buy another one thawed now to cook to have to feed everyone! We paid $30 for the turkey and $35 to Soulman's to smoke it. $65 for an 8.8 lb turkey. So beware when you leave your turkey and pick it up. Someone however will be taking a nice big turkey home. A must stop at off the highway.....! The BBQ is very good with many interesting choices. Prices are reasonable. You get a variety choice of sides and deserts and they even have my favorite, take home cups if you buy the large. The inside is pleasantly decorated and feels rustic - fits the theme of BBQ ! Been here twice just to see how they do. I'd say it's pretty average. Everyone loves brisket for BBQ but both times the brisket here was underwhelming. Somewhere between dry to very dry. If you want a basis of comparison, visit Hard 8. Their side dishes are pretty good though and the ribs certainly better then the brisket. I'd attribute it to quality control, if it's not moist and tender with a good smoke ring, don't serve it. read more

This place is pretty decent, best bbq? Not a chance but definitely a good option if you are hungry. I placed an online order and showed up early and they were still preparing it. I was greeted promptly with a ton of enthusiasm. I didn't have to wait long for my order and the cashier was as sweet as their tea. :) one star off because I feel like it could use a good wipe down inside. Not sure if it is a bbq thing but I leaned on the wall by the fountain soda and it was sticky. I had this happen at a different bbq place too. Soulmans use to be soooo good, for the past year, I have been seeing a very steady decline and keep wanting to give it the benefit of the doubt, but 2 days ago when I went and ordered a sliced beef sandwich, I was beyond shocked. The meat was sliced so thin, you could barely taste it. Very few slices were on the sandwich and I literally could not eat it. The sign not stingy with your meat should be taken down. It's so sad to see a promising establishment go down hill like this. I will never be back and that makes me sad cause the food use to be the best. read more

I waa very disappointed with the ribs. They were very dry. Maybe ihe ribs were dry because my Daughter called in; after she received the wrong order. My son in law went back to the restaurantto pick up the rest of the food.. When he came back home he had tiny serving which consisted of fatty pulled pork and 4 little ribs. I cant believe how unfriendly the manager was. I can understand that it can happen that some food gets mixed up but being rude to a custumer is just wrong read more

Would have given a higher rating but disappointed in the outcome of service. Came home with our order being incorrect. Was supposed to get 3 different meats and came home with all fixings but only had one meat order. We got the full amount of meat but just not the variety that we paid for (ribs were an additional $2 per pound). Contacted the store to kindly talk to the manager and he basically indicated I was mistaken as he hand packed it himself. I'm sure we were not the only order that evening and hey accidents happen. Was a little annoyed being called a liar. I offered to send a photo of the order we received and he said he would just make it right and we could come back in to get the rest of our order or get a credit. We opted to return to the store, even tho it was at an inconvenient time and a bit of a drive. However, we had family here from out of state and they were excited to try some BBQ. Before I was done talking to the manager he hung up the phone. Upon arrival, The manager hands us the order as soon as we entered and said he freshly packed it. We get all the way home and there are THREE ribs and a container of 90% fat pulled pork. Irritated at this point because we made the drive all the way back to the restaurant due to their error and then basically gave us the smallest portion of ribs and a side of fat. Grateful we had enough meat for everyone but the extra we drove all the way back for was not even worth the gas or time. The fat alone we brought home felt like a snide reaction since the manager felt we lied about our order being wrong. I used to be an assistant manager of a restaurant and if this happened to a customer we would have given a better portion and quality for our error and inconvenience to the customer. Eat here often at lunch time. I don't like their chopped beef as they put it thru a meat grinder and it gives it a weird texture. The brisket is OK, but nothing out of the ordinary. I am a fan of their pulled pork and ask to have some of the bark fat mixed in. Their sides are better than most other BBQ joints. I like their jalapeño creamed corn and fried potatoes. BBQ sauce is your typical Texas style sauce, slightly sweet. For $9 lunch you get a pulled pork sandwich, 2 sides and a drink and they have self serve ice cream. read more

I usually don't leave any feedback but this location I would not recommend. The original on the interstate at least the last visit was fine. The employees were nice and friendly. I am only giving this because of the food quality. Prices went up since my last visit which I can live with if the food was the same. The brisket was tasteless zero smoke and no seasoning not even salt or pepper. The portions were also in my opinion measly. For $18 you would think they could at least load up the fries. And to get a medium side of okra was $8! Either raise your prices to match the cost or give me what I'm use to from soulmans. Don't raise the price and give me less especially when it's sub par. I will try the other Rockwall location I just hope they don't serve their customers this. read more

I appreciate that effort but other than that... We waited in line and looked at the sides we wanted so that we were ready to order wen it was our turn. This location has EXCELLENT service! I was greeted when I walked in and the girl behind the counter was mega friendly! They got my order done quickly and the food was pretty good! More than anything this place has GREAT service! I felt like leaving a 50% tip (although, I don't think they have tipping)....might want to check that though. I got the fried cabbage which was excellent, the Mac and Cheese which was good, and the pulled pork sandwich which was pretty good too. The prices were reasonable but again the SERVICE was amazing!
