    Buttermilk Pie
    Rick B.

Solid choice amongst standard buffet-line BBQ options! Friendly meat-cutters and servers helped us with our OutaSight Special and Rib Plate. The chopped briscuit was lean, and I saw them trim off fatty edges that many BBQ places would've simply ground into the chopped meat. This impressed me right away! The sandwich also came with a loaded baked potato, and it was great! My ribs were fantastic, and the 1/2 Slab (with okra & potato salad sides) filled me up! Note: If you don't like the vinegar smell of Carolina-style BBQ sauce, better get the sauce on the side. Our Buttermilk Pie was tasty, even though I was too full to eat much. Iced Tea and soft drinks. Large dining area, small parking lot.

Best BBQ ribs ever, sorry St. Louis. Mmmm No sauce required, but both regular and spicy were very nice. Potato salad was picnic worthy and the cole slaw rivals KFC, but a bit bigger pieces.

Bottom Line: Exceptional service, decent bbq too. My coworkers told me that trying Soulman's Bar-B-Que was a right of passage so after landing at Love Field I headed straight to this location in Rockwall. I tried to blend in and look like a local but I must have looked out of place because the lovely employee walked me through the selection process pointing out where I could grab a tray, find drinks, get sauces, etc. I appreciate that she immediately could tell I would need some guidance along the way and she did it in such a charming way. I would go back to Soulman's again based on my interactions with her alone - her seamless and natural hospitality. Since everything is bigger in Texas I figured I better go big or go home. Given that, I got the "Build Your Own BBQ Plate" with two meats. After all, I couldn't go to Soulman's and just get one meat! I tried the ribs and chicken and for a side I went with a baked potato with all the fixin's (aka a loaded baked potato). The ribs were good, the chicken was average and needed sauce and the potato hit the spot. One aspect I don't want to overlook is that they have Coca-Cola products so I was able to get a big 32 oz. cup of diet Coke. That really hit the spot. As I expected, the interior is very casual, no frills and a bit dated.

Bbq was ok. They have a few locations. It's not the best and not the worst. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, it's not bad.

Not a huge fan of counter service but the food is always generous and amazing! The tables are not always clean.

Found a beetle in my spicy ranch beans, don't get Texas toast with my combo plate; everything after that was very disappointing.

They advertise vegetarian options for dinner, but all they really were were sides, and not dinners at all.

Is this a sign??? No. It's no. Currently, they have beer and wine available. We ordered a beer and it was ice cold. For apps, we had half orders of the meteor bites and pickles. Both fantastic. Served with a yummy ranch and Chipotle ranch. Out fast and hot. Our server Cora was so pleasant and had such a strong desire to please. For dinner we both got the 205 plate. Two meats and two sides. For just over $20. It was a steal compared to most bbq joints. He got brisket and ribs. Both fantastic and I am not a rib girl. So tender. I got the pulled pork and chicken. Both good. But, I won't lie, his was better. Only complaint was wishing the food was just slightly warmer. For sides, creamy Mac n cheese (next time I am getting that topped with brisket), potatoe salad and Cole slaw. Zero complaints. Come on Rockwall. Show up and support a local business.

Boss lady and I came in after the lunch rush. Only three other tables had customers. I ordered the 205 Plate with (what was to be fatty, not. It was cold and dry) brisket and the spicy sausage, which was delicious! My sides were green beans (with bacon) and fried okra...both very tasty. Loved the bread roll. We asked for butter, and they brought out some real whipped butter...SCORE! She had their special flat iron steak, cooked medium rare (always!) with salad and and fries (which need to be done more). Her steak was so tender and cooked perfectly! Dessert was their sampler. With a double order of banana pudding, a bread pudding and a chocolate cake. The best thing was the bread pudding but it needs a warm sauce on it. The others were just Ok. Overall, a good meal and experience. We'll be back to try something different.

Super friendly welcome from the wait staff and it turned out the owner was working too. Great conversation. Started with the armadillo eggs which are deep fried Jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese and served with ranch. These things are a weakness of mine and I ate the entire order. Next had a two meat platter with brisket and jalapeño cheese sausage. Sides were fried okra and broccoli. They have their fried food game down. Okra was hot and crispy and well seasoned. Delicious. The broccoli tasted like homemade steamed broccoli and was the exact texture I like. My brisket was super tender and tasty and the sausage was satisfying. I used the spicy sauce which gave everything a kick. Finished with the banana pudding with nilla wafers. Stuffed! Delicious meal and so friendly - I'll be back maybe for when they have live music on a weekend.

My only issue with this place is the miniature sides provided. What most places might use for serving some gravy or other sauce. They use for your sides. I had a chance last October while I was in Rockwall for a wedding to try it, but because the wedding was a top priority (whatever!!!), it didn't happen. Yesterday was my chance. Inside this food park was a vast sea of options, but my eyes were set on the back left where Smoak Town laid. They have a huge tent with plenty of tables to sit at under the shade and the space is wrapped in their wood, giving the joint an oak log fence around the food truck. By the time I got there a little past 1:30, they were out of sausage and mac and cheese. Sad! Other than that, my order was simple: brisket, pork ribs, pork belly burnt ends, and a side of their brew brisket beans. The brisket was a thick slice that was moist and flavorful. I love those chunky slabs of brisket. There is just something about a thicker cut that knocks skinnier cuts out of the park. The pork ribs were juicy and tender. I rarely get pork belly burnt ends over a sausage, but they are always a treat like they were here. Just a little taste of heaven. The beans were savory, hearty, and well seasoned. I was pretty impressed by them as well. The team working was super conversational and friendly. The guy in front of me was having his first taste of Texas barbecue, and they were being super helpful making sure he got a true, flavorful experience. This spot feels hidden but is worth the trip. There were quite a few people hanging around enjoying the excellent barbecue. Worth the pit stop and worth the drive if you live anywhere in the DFW metro.
