For a fast food bbq experience this place was very good customer service was beyond friendly. Food quality was solid. Had the brisket, sausage and pulled pork and was great when paired with the spicy bbq. That spicy bbq was on point one of the best I've had. The baked potato was heaven. Best I've ever had. Baked potato with all the fixings hot bbq sauce two chopped beef sandwiches . Potato was thrown in plate upside down so didn't close properly . Wasn't given any sauce so now we have dry meat to eat . Hubby and I were driving around trying to decide what we were hungry for and on a whim decided to pull in here and try it! It's delicious and we were not disappointed ... the Soulbowl was awesome. We substituted chopped beef for the sausage and pulled pork in the bowl and we're happy with the decision. Also we got a few sides to try since we hadn't been here and again I was pleased with the choices (mac n cheese, spicy potatoes and creamed corn) and grabbed a bowl of banana pudding. Especially since Texas is supposed to be known for their beef and the brisket was very disappointing, almost like it was boiled or steamed instead of smoked. Stopped in Soulman's last night for a quick bite, (take out order). I purchased the special of the month which was half a chicken w/two sides (Pinto beans/Cabbage)pickles, onions and peppers. I had heard mixed reviews about this restaurant, which made me avoid it for some time. However I must say the chicken was tremendously juicy, flavorful and tender. With a lovely smoked flavor, crisp skin accompanied with a tangy barbeque sauce. As for the sides I won't say they were out of this world, as they both lacked seasoning. Therefore I will say the cabbage were different then what I am use to. With red pepper and sausage added for some color and additional flavoring. Soulmans BBQ in Rockwall is darn good. I always leave there feeling stuffed and happy. On a typical weekday lunch at Soulman's around 1pm there is a short line to get up to the ordering lady. I told her what meats I wanted and she began cutting them up in front of me. They have a nice selection of meats, but no-one could eat a portion of each of them in a single sitting. Sides are there buffet style, you add them to your place yourself. Fresh fries on request were a nice touch, and they were VERY good. The sauce is light and spicy as you would expect in a Texas BBQ place. Price is a smidge high, which is typical, so maybe its just average? LOL. Good BBQ is never cheap. Iced-Tea was great and loved the small condiment station with fresh pico, pickles and peppers. The restaurant is basic, but inviting and the booths are plenty large for bubba and the kids to chow down. This is a worthwhile place to eat some good basic Texas BBQ in Rockwall, and is likely the best BBQ option in Rockwall city limits. read more

I've recently became a big fan of Texas BBQ! I see this place everyday i drive on the fwy so I decided to read up on them on the web. I signed up for their e-mail list and they emailed me a free coupon for a sandwich ($5 value) I decided to check them out tonight. I got the brisket sandwich with a side of fried okra. It was my first time having fried okra - interesting texture. The batter around it was pretty thick so i felt like I was just eating fried batter and didn't taste much of the okra. I didn't know what it was when i first saw it and the guy helping me gave me a sample to try. I decided to get a side of it to go with my main course. BRISKET: off to the important part of the meal. i opted for the brisket sandwich. There was great heaping of thinly sliced brisket on a toasted (hamburger-like) bun. They also gave me a side of warm bbq sauce. I think that was an important key to the bbq - having warm bbq sauce slathered over the meat - it really makes a difference! I first tried the meat without the sauce - its a little dry. I personally prefer my brisket to be cut a little thicker, this was almost like a deli style slice. However, they did give you a great amount of food, they are not stingy on the meat. So with the coupon I just paid for my side and it came out to $1.61. Not too shabby for dinner! This place is easily accessible right off the frontage street with ample parking in front. I've been coming to Soulman's for the better part of 30 years. Unfortunately, they've steadily gone down hill the larger they've become. Last night was the absolute worst. Ordered a whole slab of ribs to go, and they should have been embarrassed to even think of presenting them to serve. Once home, it was obvious looking at them they were overcooked, but then to bite into them and have the bone break off with the bite is the worst. The spicy beans now are a lot of pinto beans with pico thrown in as an after thought, as opposed to slow cooked w/the veggies and a meat. Sad. read more

What an absolute joke we go in person and order and everything is fine but as soon as I try to use doordash Uber eats or any other delivery service they end up shorting me items on my order and it's every single order I talk to the manager after it happened the 6th time and they said it's the way that they print out the delivery receipts that cause a part of the order to get cut off....what a joke I spoke to the district manager and he was less than concerned I guess it seems to be their business model that if you pay for 100% of the order and they only give you 75% of it then they're doing very well he seemed to laugh it off like it wasn't that big of a deal he was very rude and very condescending and had little regard for the trouble that me and my family were going through so I am not going to go back to this restaurant ever again and I suggested if you're in Rockwall Texas you scare clear of both locations read more

They have a wide assortment of sides you can choose from and I opted for the mashed potatoes with gravy. (Not bad, but seemed to be lacking in flavor a bit). When I walk in the warm Texas atmosphere and smell get me every time. The barbecue is great. My husband likes the sausage. I prefer the smoked turkey, but the brisket is nice and moist too.
