We've lived in Royse City for nearly four years, and unfortunately, today was the worst experience we've ever had at a restaurant. Because of what happened at Smoke Sessions, we'll be finding a new BBQ spot. My husband stopped by today and walked into a nearly empty restaurant. He waited about five minutes for someone to acknowledge him. After calling out and still receiving no assistance, he considered leaving--but stayed because he knows how much I enjoy their food. While he was waiting, another customer walked in. Suddenly, a staff member appeared and immediately helped that customer, completely overlooking my husband--as if he wasn't even there. For context, my husband is 6'6", so he's not exactly easy to miss. When my husband spoke up and asked if she saw him waiting, she responded by saying she knew the other customer and his order, as if that justified ignoring him. It didn't. From our perspective, the only clear difference between the two customers was race--and that's deeply upsetting. We will not support a business where basic respect and fairness aren't extended to everyone. To make matters worse, she later offered his food for free, which he declined. We don't want free food--we expect to be treated with dignity and respect, just like any other customer. If someone isn't comfortable serving all people equally, then customer service is not the right place for them. It's really that simple. read more

First time at this business, & we were in the vicinity visiting family and randomly ran across this restaurant. When we parked and got out of the truck, all you could smell was delicious smoked meats. The interior was very clean, and spacious, and again, the smell of smoked meat was wafting into your nose majeing your mouth water. I ordered the Finch BBQ burger and it was incredible. A beef brisket smash burger with pulled smoked brisket and fried onion strings on a tasty roll. I of course had to add their signature bq sauce which was a little hot and tangy. When we mentioned we were out-of-towners, the warm welcome we received wasn't just from the staff -- even the other guests made us feel right at home! The menu has a wide variety of options, and everything we tried was packed with flavor. We ordered a mix of meats: brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, and buffalo wings. For sides, we had mac & cheese and the most delicious beans I've ever had -- loaded with meat and perfectly cooked. The ribs and wings were definitely my favorites! We try to support local businesses and have always enjoyed your food, which is why this experience was disappointing. After reading your response to my wife, I need to address something. My integrity matters to me, and the statement that I became frustrated after only 45 seconds is simply not true. From the moment I walked in, I spent time looking at the menu and then waited several minutes to be acknowledged. During that time, I moved between the register and the counter area and even said hello, but wasn't greeted. So I'd ask you to review your camera footage starting from when I entered, not from some point in the middle. So where are you starting your 45 secs, I'm a notorious slow menu reader so that easily took 1 min in itself?Then I paced saying hello? So where I let the other customer go ahead because it was clear you intended to serve him first--why stop his entitlement? You already put it in motion. The issue was being overlooked.. I didn't come in expecting anything for free. I came in expecting the same level of service as any other customer. I understand it's your business and you can run it how you choose, serve who you want....but I won't accept being misrepresented. My wife may continue to visit because the food is good, but I won't be returning. It'll just be a longer drive for my BBQ. I really wanted to like this place ~ the building, the setup, and the overall ambiance are great. The service was excellent, and everyone was friendly and attentive, which made for a really nice experience. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite meet expectations. We ordered the super moist brisket, turkey and burnt ends. The burnt ends were fantastic ~ flavorful, tender, and smoky. The brisket, on the other hand, looked good until we cut into it... then it turned out to be dry and tough to chew, even with their really good barbecue sauce. My boyfriend noticed it too, and we both agreed it just didn't have that juicy texture you'd expect from a "moist" cut. The turkey, on the other hand was outstanding ~ possibly one of the best and most tender I've had. I just wish the brisket had been the same since that's what we came here for. The sides were a big letdown as well. They looked good but tasted very bland, especially the mac and cheese, which wasn't very creamy nor hot. The green beans looked great but again lacked having much flavor at all and the coleslaw wasn't good or bad, just okay. Overall, we left feeling disappointed ~ especially for the price. The barbecue was decent but not great. So, I would go back if someone else really wanted to but I wouldn't suggest it myself. I might go and try something else but I got a couple items to test. Delicious BBQ! We were in town fur a wedding and wanted to try a local BBQ spot, Smoke Sessions did not disappoint. We tried the brisket, pork ribs, and sausage. All were perfection. Honestly they didn't even need sauce but we couldn't resist the sauce was really good too! Chose the fried pickles $8 and Mac & cheese $4 as sides. The portions are plenty enough to share. The inside of this place is really cool. Very high ceilings. I can't remember if it was an old fire house or just resembles one either way it's a great vibe. The staff was nice. We were a little confused with the ordering process (meats and sides in one area and everything else in another but once they explained it to us we were on board. I highly recommend this BBQ spot. We spent a few days recently in Rockwall, Texas! While there we of course had to get some legit central Texas style barbecue. Just a short 15 minutes away in Royse City is Smoke Sessions Barbecue. This place was an absolute standout! It's quite clear they have a reputation in the area for quality Cue. Their smoked meats tend to sell out so visiting early is a must. The attractive restaurant is large and spacious, almost looks like a fire station. There was ample parking. I ordered a 1/2 pound of brisket and a spicy smoked beef sausage. The brisket I had was perfectly moist with an exquisite bark. For my side I had the tater salad and it was outstanding. Somewhat of a rustic cut that was nicely dressed and seasoned. I tried my wife's order of mac & cheese and was impressed. Meals here come with sliced white onion and a handful of pickle chips that provided a nice crunchy hit of acidity that paired beautifully with their tender, smokey meats. read more

I WILL BE BACK!!!! Oh my goodness. This was such a treat. We did not try any of the barbecue and thought it might be nice to try some of their awesome sounding burgers instead. The co-owner, Chad, was happy to point out that they have lunch specials that include the single-patty version of their delicious brisket patty burgers with fries or okra at a discounted price. He also advised us to get the individual sides of okra and french fries because the family sizes were rather large. We also ordered the medium size brisket beans topped with tortilla strips, crema and cheese.....YUM!!!! I was very impressed with all of the items we ordered. We appreciated that the okra appeared to be hand cut, breaded and fried in BEEF TALLOW. The fries were fried in tallow and were exceptional as well. I literally could go in there and just order the brisket beans though...that was like a whole meal!!! Everything was outstanding and we loved our burgers. I ordered the bacon blue cheese burger and hubby ordered the mushroom swiss. We only ate half of each burger because we got full pretty quickly. The service is very friendly and down to earth. There are neat patios on the side and in the back of the restaurant. I love that there are train tracks right there as well. Pretty cool atmosphere. I would love to have dinner here sometime and enjoy the patio area. I really want to revisit this place again and again. I would love to try some of the smoky meats next time. It was going to be 5 stars just based on the chopped BBQ sandwich and potato salad, but then the brisket egg roll and the fried cherry pie came out and they lost a star. The sandwich was large enough to split, we asked the slicer if we should get sliced or chopped and he gave some great advice we will head in future BBQ expeditions. If it is sliced, get lean, if it is chopped get fatty. So (or course) we got chopped. It didn't need a thing, just nicely spiced and flavorful brisket, he also gave us a slice sample of an end piece, the bark was thick and almost pastrami-esc. The brisket egg roll, was greasy and cold in the middle, the damn pie was WAY too greasy not very filled with canned cherries, and who puts chocolate sauce on pie?? and crappy chocolate sauce at that. If you wanna serve it with chocolate sauce - put it on the side, and/or warn the person ordering it that it comes with chocolate sauce so that they can decline. The space is nice, the bathrooms were clean, and there was zero wait, which was great. The brisket burgers looked fantastic. read more

This super friendly guy, "Potter" hooked this potato up!!!! They don't mess around on servings. Worth every penny and inhaled the brisket and turkey too fast to get a pic. You will love everything you order. The service is so fast and friendly. The atmosphere is really nice and clean, even the bathrooms!! They have a bar and patio. Alright so lived here for about a year and haven't gotten around to this place ! Let me start with service it was ok ! It wasn't all that welcoming and being first timers.. I'd like a run down of what's good.. what you're known for etc. didn't get that at all so we just picked at random. The ambiance for a Sunday was awesome, good music not overly load and a decent amount of people. Good vibe over all ! Now the food, the ribs were fall off the bone so they were good ! The corn, it looks better than it taste ! Giving elote vibes but not even close to that at all! But still good ! Pulled pork sandwich was ehh the pork's good but no flair or anything really. How have we lived here for more than two years and never been?!? Well, I know. They close at 8pm. We are late eaters so we always thought about going at 730... knowing they run out of things we hadn't made it. So, we skipped lunch and went for an early dinner. We had recently made brisket and pulled pork at home so we tried the burgers. I had the standard burger and the hubby had the one with brisket on it. We both thought our own was better than the other. The portion of brisket was huge. He was nervous about the sweetness of the sweet habenaro bbq sauce so he got it on the side. It was really good! The standard burger was soooo cheesy. Both had a great BBQ and smokey flavor to them. We would highly recommend. We were disappointed they were out of mac and cheese at 645 but we will try that next time. So, we did the jalapeño popper egg rolls. I know everyone loves them but we weren't a fan of their normal bbq sauce and that was drizzled on it. The crunch from the fry was fantastic but I could have used more texture in the egg roll. The fries were seasoned and well fried. We also tried the potato salad, which we also liked. We really liked and will be back. Only thing I would change is the bbq sauce - it wasn't for us. We couldn't really explain it. But we liked the spicy sweet Habanero pepper bbq sauce, so we will see if we can get a couple sides of that instead of their standard one. Go. This restaurant does not care how it treats customers that order a delivery order. I ordered a 1/4 pound of brisket, potato salad and a cherry fried pie. I paid over $26.00 and received ONE slice of brisket with my potato salad and fried pie. There was chocolate sauce all over my bag, both of my containers of food. I couldn't believe that I paid $26 and only received ONE slice of brisket. I could have went to Soulmans or any other BBQ place and received a lot more food for that price. I could have gotten a one-meat plate and received more meat than what I received and it wasn't that great anyway. I called the restaurant and they blamed the prices on Uber, but it was on their menu and it never said ONE piece of meat. I will NEVER eat from this establishment ever again. They responded that this was not the service they intended to deliver, but did nothing to compensate me for my food. I ended up having to get more meat from another restaurant. I even attached a picture of how I received my food and they didn't seem to care about that either. Get there early ,this place gets busy quick. got there about noon and it was busy but they took care of us real quick. Bet you've never had a 3"thick brisket sandwich not chopped but one piece of 3" brisket. The guy that had it said "I'm comin' back" and he lives in Waco. Long story short the meats are fabulous, the sides are much more to my liking and the beer is frigid. oh, don't know who but someone in the place paid for our beer to which I say Thank you so much. The pickup for smoked turkey's and ham was a cluster f___. So many people and no one telling people where to stand or get in line. The turkeys were ready after pickup time and the ham's were an hour late from being ready. Must have turned the heat up on the ham to rush the smoking. It is burnt and zero flavor. Expected something much better for $75.00 . Also there was only one check in the long line to get the meat. Totally unorganized. My one and only time.
