The chicken strips and cabbage were definite stand outs as well as the pillowy soft rolls that come out in baskets routinely. It was my first time coming, I wanted to go to a good BBQ place nearby in the Eastern Dallas area and came across Smoke Monkey on TikTok. I saw LD when I was inside and I recognized him. He said "hey man let me hook you up with something on me". He brought out my mom and I some ribs for free and they were very good. We talked with him for a bit and he was awesome and I would go out of my way to come back again. The place was nice as well and I could tell it gets popping when it's later at night. This place is a hidden gem! Today was cold and it was sleeting. We had to go check on a property in Forney because of the winter storm. We passed Smoke Monkey on the way there, and decided to stop and get a bite on the way back. The place is large. The staff is very friendly and helpful! The lady that helped us at the register and she bagged our food when we were done, I forgot her name, but she went above and beyond for us. The food is delicious. I didn't realize how much I had ordered since they were cooking the fried foods to order because of the weather and lack of business on this particular day. The wet Nashville chicken, fried shrimp, and okra were very good! The baked beans and dirty rice were delicious as well. I'm from Mississippi and we are serious about our sweet tea, but their sweet tea was on point! I'll definitely go back, especially when crawfish season starts! Have to update my review here because this place is very disappointing now. This place DOES NOT sell bbq anymore. I overheard someone asking a worker or manager why do they not sell bbq. They came back and said it's too expensive. So now they only have a buffet, which is full of random stuff, but no bbq. The buffet has some good stuff on it, but the fact that they had some good bbq and now can't afford it is again disappointing. Came to an event and arrived at 6:30pm. Stood in line and ordered 2 potato bowls with brisket. We got a number assigned and took it to our table. Looked forward to it. 30 minutes later, we still did not have our food. I went back through the line and said "can you tell me how long it will take to get order number 13?" The amount of sausage they give is a lot but the casing was super tuff and not much heat in the meat and the bun was soaked in butter. The place is cool with a lot to look at and a great outdoor eating area. My wife ordered the pulled pork which was dry and not very flavorful and her bun was also soaked in butter.
