Tucked away in a little nook in Huntington's sometimes bustling downtown, as if you've discovered a yoga speak easy. There are all kinds and levels of yogis and yoginis. There are vegan mostly glutin-free yogis in harem pants that can wrap their limbs around their limbs with a smile - with no need to warm up, Weekend -only yogis, new yogis that walk in with hope-excitement and a Groupon in hand (hopeful to find a new yoga home or to try it for the first time), there are fancy yoginis in fabulous yoga tights and strappy tops, a few kids on occassion, mostly women- but typically a few men ... From the minute one walks in - there is a welcoming, inclusive aura. The vibe is chill. Take off your shoes, roll out your mat or use one of theirs, grab a block, a yoga blanket, and find your spot. There is a good rotation of teachers - From the studio founder/owner, Chantal-to new graduates of the teacher-training program. Each class includes a dharma talk at the beginning (short or long, depending on your perspective, interest, and capacity to sit and listen to some Wisdom being imparted on the monthly theme. This month -February -the studio theme is "breaking old habits" - which is perfectly timed with the natural waning of people's new years' resolution resolve. The classes are often themed to different degrees- sometimes the theme is woven throughout the class and reinforced by certain postures, the music, the dharma talk and seed sentences. Sometimes a class can resonate with such beauty - that it sticks with me all day. And beyond. Encouraging to take what I felt and did on the mat, beyond the mat- into my life - to share it with all I come on contact with. I am very tuned into detail - and I won't lie- occasionally - there are classes- or elements of a class- I don't love for one reason or other - maybe my mood or that of the teacher - but I go back again and again and always - without fail- am challenged, encouraged, and feel Held. I feel a part of the ylp community. It is clear the teachers all put their heart and soul into their "work" -- each is a little different - but one can hear new music, or awesome new play lists which they are happy to share, they may quote poetry, or chant Kirtan on their hand-made steel drum (Dave's Sunday class is....well- just come to it), Nancy may wrap you up in blankets - offer subtle assists and send you into the deepest, calm- in her deep relaxation class. Kristen may get you charged up with her incredibly creative, often intricate and elaborate vinyasa flow- she leads the room in a dance with the softest, sweetest voice - inviting you in. Maria leads a tight one-hour Friday night class that rocks. Somehow She feels the energy of the room and knows what we need. She mixes a great playlist, a concise dharma message and a perfect flow and savasana - every time. One of my first classes at the studio was with studio owner Chantal Vice- and I'm not exaggerating when I say that studying (I'm doing yoga teacher training now at the studio) with Chantal has been really life-enhancing. She is next level. Each class - and I can say this about most all of the ylp classes- is a work of art. Intricately incorporating sound, movement, themes, connection, yoga philosophy, humor, self discovery, and growth. Janice - a seasoned, grounded, loving yogini- teaches many weekly classes. Each slightly different and each- a solid, beautiful intense full experience. Dave's soulful Sunday - is just a divine experience most days. Consistently inconsistent and never boring. Always changing - dave leads us in dharma, asana, contemplation, music, chant, with so much humor. There's a small tempting boutique - not overpowering - some nice clothing some Jewelery - Chantal offers free tea (I think it's free- omg -if not I owe her a few bucks) and sprays to clean your Mat. The studio is clean. Well-lit. Comfortable. On occasion it's a little too hot or too cold - and they try to maneuver the thermostat to make everyone happy. The bathroom is clean and there's space for your stuff. I've taken a few interesting workshops- recently a 2 hour - Thai yoga workshop with dave and it was great. So that's my Speil. My doctor recommended Pure Barre. I'm so glad that he did. I went for a while a couple of years ago and then I stopped. I'm not exactly sure why but I started back and I'm happy about it. It was awe-inspiring, as someone who had always found yoga to be ugly, hard angles and graceless, I was proven completely wrong. My ultimate goal was to end up in one of Stacy's classes, but it was far too difficult for me as a beginner, and along the way I fell in love with Elaine's Iyengar classes. Elaine was so incredibly nurturing and wonderful. She has a very hands on, personal touch and I still miss hearing her voice telling each of us how we needed to modify certain poses depending on the injuries we had suffered. While it defined what I now consider essential to a yoga studio in its characteristics - an intimate atmosphere full of friendly, nurturing people and teachers, it was also incredibly practical. It was reasonably priced, allowing me to go multiple times a week and had a great range of classes at all different times. I was only there for 4 months before I moved to Peru, but in that short time it was an experience I'll never forget. It was truly a place I could have established a lasting practice, and I'm hoping that I will find a studio to rival it soon.

The pool is accessible only to Clarkstown residents and their guests, so if you're not a resident befriend someone who is. You must obtain a Clarkstown resident ID card first at the registration office at 31 Zukor Road in New City. (The pool won't simply accept a driver's license.) Rates can be either daily or seasonal for individuals or family, and are very reasonable compared to similar community pools.

On a recent visit it was nice to see that the previous snake-ridden den of iniquity has long been been replaced with a legitimate pool and that the mythological beasts of years past have been slayed by chlorine and actual cement walls. You can even see right to the bottom. What a concept. This is what Nanuet Lake should have been like all along... no thanks whatsoever to my parents who thought this was some tough love version of Shangri La, albeit minus the all consuming bliss one often finds in paradise. I kid about my parents (almost) and am happy to bestow five easy stars for a childhood reclaimed. I still hate snakes.

I rarely write reviews on yelp anymore but after attending a few classes at Sound (Mind & Body) I feel the need to give credit where it's due. First off, the cleanliness and professionalism is obvious from the moment you enter. Adam (the owner), was/is very mature and helpful for a non-yogi such as myself. I had many questions and felt a bit intimidated taking classes as a newbie, but he made me feel very comfortable being there and not out of place at all (my body did that for me). His attitude was ONLY outdone by the vibes his establishment gives off. The place is comfortable, clean, spacious and has great natural lighting. I went to Sound for an average class (not beginners and not experienced) which wasn't overly difficult because the woman teaching the class did a great job explaining the proper moves, and how to fix them when I wasn't achieving them. That class was great, but even more so I really enjoyed the live acoustic class, hearing some of my favorite music instrumentally and being able to find my chi while working out was perfect. Overall I find nothing to negatively critique about this business and I would suggest anyone considering continuing their Yoga lifestyle or starting a new, to give them a try, you will not be disappointed and most likely be a repeat customer (such as myself). I just wanted to thank the Sound Body and Mind team for giving me an affordable, pleasant and invigorating place to get back in tune with myself, my body, and my center. I've been fortunate enough to share that experience with locals who have similar goals and a kind peaceful spirit that is all too lacking at so many chain establishments. I'm so glad I get to share this lovely space with friendly faces in such a warm and inviting fitness environment. All the instructors have been very knowledgeable and motivated to make the most of your time there. Too often we forget to take time for ourselves not realizing that it benefits not only us but everyone around us too by being in a better positive place that emits an incredibly contagious positive energy. By far the best yoga/fitness studio I have ever been to - and I have tried a lot of them in the area. Its $35 for two weeks unlimited classes, and I found each class to be better than the next! There is such a variety and they have everything from great classes for beginners to very challenging classes. Adam, the owner, teaches awesome bootcamp style circuit classes in the AM that I highly recommend. The variety in yoga classes has allowed me to grow in my yoga practice. Sound Body and Mind should definitely be your first stop if you are looking for a yoga studio in the Huntington Area. read more

The studio is super clean, right by the water and offers a variety of yoga classes to take. Come in, try a few classes a few times - and find which one suits you the best. Speak to the instructors and get to know them. The classes range from restorative and gentle to more physically challenging- but most of the instructors use their intuitive sense to do what is needed at the time. So be open to a variety and be open to working on your mat if you are in a class that is different from your expectation. That's part of opening yourself up for positive change and growth. If you haven't been here in a while, try it again. The studio is always evolving-

Ann Marie is such a warm, engaging, easy-going person and she sets the tone for the studio. It is a relaxing, welcoming space and I instantly remembered how much better it is to practice in a studio versus having a home practice. Ann Marie is extremely knowledgable about yoga and how the human body works. She works hard to make sure that everyone is using what props they need to benefit from the practice given their individual bodies. She does a fantastic job of pacing her instruction. Her classes are very varied which for me keeps it interesting. And I always leave there feeling like I have worked every part of my body. You can see why I have given Your Yoga Place five stars!!

Everyone is helpful and I never felt at all uncomfortable or intimidated. Instructors will gently correct posture as they walk through the room and each person is working at their own level. You can rent or buy items you forget (towel, mat, water). Expect to store shoes at the front and other personal items in large cubbies. Though it's smaller than other studios I've visited, I think they make good use of the space. i appreciated the environment in the room, accommodations in the studio and the instructor overall. Especially gained a lot from her level of attentiveness to each person there. She gave a lot of helpful cues to improve form and endurance throughout the class. It's clear she's been doing this a long time I embarrassingly almost collapsed from dehydration after I finished my first class (which was my fault for over dressing and under hydrating). I felt safe and accommodated because of instructor and fellow students so that really added to my impression of the studio

The instructor could not walk around for corrections as there was no room between people. This was an exercise class where people were moving around (jumping, etc) and of course sweating a lot as it is hot yoga, and sweat was flying. I was next to a man who was shirtless (all the men were) and it was gross to have a sopping wet person literally inches away.
