They were SO patient with us, so flexible, and so accommodating through multiple postponements and changes of venue and even city throughout the course of the pandemic. It was clear from our first meeting with DJ Courtney that he really cared about playing music at our wedding that would be meaningful to us and enhance the day. I had never hired a DJ before in my life, but found myself in the unusual and unfortunate situation of needing to hire one for my best friend's Celebration of Life. Long story short, I am a forever customer of Sound in Motion and will never hire any other DJ in the Bay Area! I worked directly with Shawn who was so incredibly patient and thorough in walking me through the whole process end-to-end. She understood completely what we were looking for in an event of this nature. She paired me with Andy, and his DJ skills and attention to detail were impeccable on the day of the event! He was so calm and patient even in the inevitable shifts and turbulence of a party with a lot going on!! We hired Sound In Motion to provide a photo booth for our wedding and it was seriously one of the best decisions we made! From the moment we booked them, they were amazing. We hired SIM to provide DJ, uplighting, and photo booth services at our wedding (venue = Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa) and they were outstanding! Nick was our DJ and made sure the flow of our evening went smoothly. Whenever he came to us to let us know what was coming up next (i.e. speeches, cake cutting, etc.) he never rushed us and gave us time to finish eating, chatting, and enjoying ourselves. The mood in the room throughout dinner service, speeches, and dancing were always spot-on visually (uplighting really helped with ambiance!) and musically, and he crafted his playlist carefully to match our requests. I don't think the dance floor was ever empty once the dance music started, and I received many, many compliments from my guests about how great the music was - all of these guests have very different music tastes too, so we were very pleased! The photo booth services were also excellent! They designed a special printing strip with a Venetian mask to match our wedding theme and my guests went to town in the photo booth! They handed us the album at the end of the night and it was fun to be able to look through some pictures and messages from our guests that very night! Over all, working with everyone at SIM was always a great experience - Shawn was always very helpful on the phone and made sure we understood pricing, services, and in general seemed to enjoy being part of the wedding planning process. When I looked at the Yelp reviews for Sound in Motion and they were ALL 5 stars, I thought they must pay Yelp to pull the bad reviews. But after my experience with them, I'm not surprised at all that they have nothing but 5-star reviews. And, by the way, you can't pay Yelp to remove bad reviews - that's a myth. When I called, Adrian answered and we talked about my wedding needs. Adrian was professional and direct. He laid out the pricing and I thought it was a little high, but for this once in a lifetime occasion I thought it was worth going for quality. We filled out their on-line forms that went into a lot of detail about EVERY aspect of the wedding. We then met with Adrian at the venue and talked through the plans. He was really helpful in pointing out areas where our plan could use some improvement. For example, many of the song requests (which we asked for on our invitations) were too slow for dancing. So Adrian suggested we play them during lunch. We had picked some ambiance music for lunch, but Adrian said it was good to "build momentum" throughout the day. He was not pushy and left it up to us, but his suggestions were good and they turned out to be spot on. He also totally got that we're not young pups and wanted 70s-90s music for our middle-aged crowd. We went back and forth a few times with the details and he never got impatient with us. Just rolled with it. So the day of the wedding finally came and Adrian and his assistant set up speakers at the ceremony spot, the lunch area and inside. He wired up the pastor before the ceremony and the sound quality was very good. The music he played during lunch was perfect, and again the sound quality was very good. Adrian also did a great job of directing traffic, getting the toasts off at the right time, and being entertaining without being cheesy at all. Then we moved in for dancing and while the crowd was pretty old and it was a daytime event, he got everyone dancing. Fantastic all around, and well worth the price. read more

We had our wedding at Camp Kennolyn in Santa Cruz, and Adrian was fantastic. He rigged the sound system perfectly, wired a friend of ours who played during the ceremony and chose a mix of dance music that had the whole party consistently on the dance floor. Most impressive was how Adrian mixed the songs together so that the songs flowed into each other. His technical skill was readily apparent. We did not want to have a lot of formal MCing at the event, and Adrian accommodated our requests fully. He kept the focus on the music and subtly used the microphone to help the crowd flow to different areas during the event. Finally, we did not "do our homework" and plan the music well in advance as Adrian requested. Instead, we waited until a week before the wedding and contacted Adrian, and even though he was out of town working on another event, he was able to pull together all of the music we requested and did an awesome job. The DJ they used was outside of our price point but we were happily paired with Logan and loved him just as much as their DJ. Tyler did an amazing job as our DJ at our wedding. We contacted Sound in Motion about 6 months out from our wedding and they hooked us up with Tyler. We met with Tyler two times prior to our wedding. Sound in Motion also gave us access to the client portal to list music we wanted played, as well as those we didn't want played (like the chicken dance). Tyler listened to each and every request we had with zero questioning. We were even sending him updates the week of (like our flash mob song) and it didn't seem to bother him at all. On the day of the wedding Tyler came early to set up. The equipment was set up way in advance and this wasn't an easy task since we had our wedding out doors in a public garden. The microphones and lapel mics were set up perfectly and everyone of our 130 guests could hear our vows, our officiant, and the music playing for our processional and recessional. Tyler announced different parts of our wedding such as our grand entrance, the maid of honor and best man's toasts, first dance, etc with complete confidence and professionalism. He was never once tacky and did an absolutely amazing job. I honestly think the true measure of a good DJ is whether they can keep the dance floor full throughout the entire wedding. Tyler not only kept our dance floor full, but he even had guests dancing at their chairs. I expected Tyler to be good, but he even exceeded those expectations. Matt is an extremely experienced DJ and I HIGHLY recommend him! *****During my dad's speech the mic kept going in and out. Sound In Motion needs to fix their systems at Kennolyn so that the mic does not go out when someone puts their mouth very near the mic. Either this, or there needs to be better communication between Sound In Motion and their DJ's, and with Kennolyn that the mic has this issue. I had my wedding last weekend and DJ Henry Chen did an amazing job!! He was so easy to work with and was seriously the nicest guy!! My, now husband, wanted to perform a few songs at the wedding reception and Henry was able to make sure that was able to happen. He did an excellent job making sure he played all our requests and completely avoided everything we don't like. Everyone was out on the dance floor the entire night. Sounds corny, but please allow me to address each ranked category to fully explain how awesome Adrian really is: Quality of Service: Adrian was the first vendor to show up, he was dressed in a tuxedo, and he kept to our wedding flow impeccably. We didn't have to worry about anything! Responsiveness: I never went 24hrs without hearing from Adrian, he was kind enough to send, and resend information as needed. He even met with us at 8pm at night until 10pm at night just to make sure we were good to go for our big day. Professinalism: Adrian's public speaking/MC ability was amazing. He almost sounds like "bruce buffer," ("lets get ready to rumble...") as his voice is very calm, smooth, and well adjusted to speaking in large rooms in front of large crowds. Value: The amount of money we paid Adrian was nothing compared to the amount of experience and value added services Adrian was able to provide. He is not only a DJ, Master of Ceremonies, Lighting Engineer, Sound Engineer, but he is also a highly adaptable, well rounded, dynamice individual. I would use Adrian for ANY upcoming event that I have. Flexibility: If you can think it up, Adrian will make it happen. The words NO and "We can't do that," are NOT in his vocabulary. First, just in case you think this is a review for DJ services only, we had not only the DJ services, but a photobooth, sound system for the ceremony, mics for performers during the reception and a slideshow screen and projector. They provided it all. Our DJ Andrew was great...so easy to work with and was able to meet with us in the San Jose location (where we live) rather than our having to drive to their Santa Cruz location (which is closer to where we had our wedding). He was very professional but very easy-going and great to work with. He had a lot of helpful suggestions and was great with finding some of the wacky music we wanted played during the reception. He made sure all the special songs/dedications we wanted were done, the timeline was kept (but not in a rigid, bad way...a non-interfering good way). The photobooth was a great hit with our guests and we had a thumbdrive with all the pics and an album immediately from them. It was great fun to look at the album while we were on our honeymoon. There were some really fun pics captured. They supply props for folks to use in getting their pics done and the machine does two strips of three photos per session....so your guests can take one and one goes in the album. We had a little thank you note, our names and the wedding date down at the bottom so the photos could be the favor that everyone took home with them (because then it was something they created, had fun with and wanted). It was a great hit! The sound for the ceremony, reception (we had several singers/musicians attending so they would perform at random), and the music for the reception were awesome! He got back to me, was incredibly informative and just an overall friendly/professional guy. I never felt pressured to make any fast booking decisions, and he never made me feel as though my business wasn't important to him. He made an honest effort to work with my budget and I really appreciated that!! (THANK YOU ROSS!) Originally, I had requested King Raffi, as some friends had said he was great! He wasn't available for my wedding, and I am soooo glad because Adrian Cavlan is AH-MAZING!!!! Here is why... When I met with Adrian I was so pleased because he was so personable and professional. He listened to what we wanted, and he took the time to give valuable suggestions to make our day better. Come close to the wedding he actually followed up with me. I know that might sound weird, but it seems like now days the client really has to keep up on the vendors, and it was the opposite. Adrian was on top of it and also flexible with deadlines for music (ceremony, dances, etc. ). Come the wedding day... Adrian and Sound in Motion were on time, dressed appropriately, energetic and geared to go for the wedding! Everything we requested for ceremony was accurate and played as requested. Reception dinner jams were perfect! Reception dancing was INSANELY amazing!!!! When we first talked with Adrian we told him that we wanted a dance party, and he delivered! I actually had to take a 15 minute break during the wedding to try and recover! Friends then, and now (4 months later), were telling me that we had the best dancing at a wedding hands down ever!! They were even sore after! Ha! It was so much fun and Adrian read the crowd so well!!! It was literally perfection! I couldn't have asked for better music at my reception!! (THANK YOU ADRIAN!!!) First of all, we love Logan. He was awesome. I don't know if it was the music or the alcohol, but everyone was dancing their asses off on the dance floor. He met with my husband prior to the wedding to get a sense of the flow of the wedding, etc. On the day of, Logan provided lapels for our officiant, was prompt and everything ran smoothly. 30 mins before our grand entrance, my husband decided he wanted special introductions for the wedding party. Logan is a bomb DJ. He kept the party going like I've never seen before during the dancing portion of our wedding at Gardener Ranch in August 2016. All the young kids knew every word of every song and the old folks had a great time dancing even though they didn't know if the funk comes from uptown or downtown. The songs were perfectly mixed together and there wasn't a single lull in the fun. Logan's sound system during the ceremony and toasts was also on point. We've all been to weddings where you can't make out the touching vows the couple have written, but this wasn't the case with Logan. Logan made sure our sound system was perfect. He was a consummate professional in the run up to the wedding. He was super responsive to email, created a shared Google doc with all of our details, and was super prepared on the big day. Logan was a simple and effective MC during our reception. It never felt like undue attention was being directed his way, yet every event and toast flowed smoothly, which was exactly what we wanted. Logan created an awesome soundtrack for the party and made sure all things audio went more than smooth. Logan even checked in with me (the groom) to make sure I knew how my mic during the ceremony was going to work. Logan has one of the best reputations in the business from so many other wedding vendors. We did our due diligence and know that it gets no better than Logan. He was open to everything we wanted (and we had a kind of weird request for the garter toss which he was totally onboard with and helped us make it even better.) and patiently answered all of our questions....and we had quite a few. The day of the wedding he made sure to check in with us and talked to our bridal party to make sure he had all of their names right, before he announced them. He made sure to keep the evening on track and played all of the songs we had put as must plays. Everyone said how much fun they had at our reception. We danced all night and had a great time. I think a good DJ is an essential part of a wedding and Nick and Sound In Motion were not only good they were great. My wedding would not have been as amazing as it was without them. read more

Adam from Sounds in Motion was hired to be the DJ at our special needs high school dance for over 200 staff and students. Before coming to the dance, Adam and I spent time emailing and talking on the phone about the event specifics and types of music for the students to dance too. On the day of the dance, he showed up on time with a variety of great dance music. He was flexible with his music volume and lighting to meet the needs of some noise sensitive students. He was also a great MC, making sure that students and staff were aware of events going on throughout the dance. I cannot say enough great things about Adam from Sounds in Motion, but I would hire them in a second for any event in the future! read more

This review is grossly overdue on my part. Besides the actually getting married thing, music was the most important thing to me for my wedding. I love dancing and all I wanted from a reception was a full dance floor all night. We worked with Andrew and he delivered. After our meeting before the wedding, it was clear that he totally got our vibe and he covered the whole mix of genres we wanted. My friend even recently commented that the DJ was *too* good because she never wanted to take a break from dancing -- which is exactly what I wanted! He also handled our ceremony music and MC duties for dinner. SIM as a whole was great as a whole. As a bride planning from long distance, the only portal was a great way to add songs ahead of actually getting to meet with Andrew. read more

DJ Adam was awesome! He kept everyone engaged, kept us going on track with the flow of things even helping stall when needed lol. Thomas photo operator was also great and kept everyone happy :). I can't say enough good things about Sound in Motion (SIM). We worked closely with Shawn at SIM in the beginning phase of our planning process - we were thrilled with the level of attentiveness and excellent customer service we received. We ended up working with Logan as our DJ and feel incredibly lucky! He was spectacular on our wedding day - keeping everyone engaged on the dance floor (from all backgrounds and age groups) and even assisting with the overall flow of the evening.
