My 2006 Toyota Tacoma is amazing, and now it is even more awesomer with the new Kenwood wireless Apple Car Play head unit and backup camera. I could do pretty good backing with my mirrors, but I never was sure if I was about to hit something I couldn't see. And the Apple Car Play experience is wonderful compared to the little Bluetooth dongle I was getting by with before this. I love having my music and maps right up there easy to see. After a couple road trips with maps I noticed about 10% battery usage per hour of driving if not plugged in. That is not bad at all. The staff here and the owner were very helpful and did great work. It amazes me how they can run a backup camera cable and a mic cable and make it look like it was meant to be. Now I'm looking for more excuses to drive my old truck just so I can use Apple Car Play. The Worst Investment I went to this business to get my touch screen radio repaired. The initial meeting was the decent and that's how this terrible business reels you in. The man (the one behind the counter) said that my radio could be fixed, it just had to be sent off for a diagnostic test that would take about two weeks. I paid the cost of removing the unit and shipping. (BEWARE- they don't have a price scale and the cashier tells you the services that you need and pushes a invoice across the counter with the expectation that you pay whatever amount they come up with. This is highly unprofessional.) Four weeks later, my radio still isn't fixed and now the issue is in another piece of equipment connected to the radio and I was expected to once again pay whatever amount they wanted to charge me. There were other issues as well, i.e. their condescending attitude and inability to provide an proper service wait time (as if the customer's time isn't valuable). read more

Well that didn't go good. So I recently purchased a remote start car alarm and need it installed. I looked about the market to find what appeared to be respectable business to have this investment installed by. Sound Investment made that list. After doing so more research I narrowed down the field and decided to go with these guys and gave them a call. Well, that didn't turn out the way I had imagined. Not only did you lose my business, but you earned a horrible review as well, congratulations.......... So, I called them and said I have a car alarm to install and told the guy the car it would be going into. He said ok and looked up his times. He said tomorrow at 9am is fine, well as shocking as it may be, I actually work full-time Monday - Friday. Wow how amazing right? I proceeded to ask him if a Saturday is available as I work during that time and it will not work for me. This is the response I got, "A Saturday is not available to you as you didn't buy the alarm from me." What!?!?!??? He claims Saturday is his premium time and had the unit been purchased at his store he would install it then. So I then asked "I would have to purchase one from you to have a Saturday install and if I don't Monday - Friday is all that is available? He answered my question with a "YES". I then laughed and said "ok thanks". Customer service is horrid with this place, clearly. Last time I checked, whether I bought the unit from the business or not I should be able to request the time that suits me. A review of this stature can really hurt a business. Why should I have to buy something I already had to get the time that suits me. If anybody else will do the same I understand the competition, but now this profitable sale of an install from me just went to your competition. So is this idea the same for any car audio you already have laying around you just want installed at this business? I mean seriously are you trying to stay in business long or not?? read more

I don't leave reviews, ever, but it would be wrong not to give this shop the props it deserves. Mike and his team did a fantastic job with my speaker and sub installation. I have gotten a fairly big project done at another well-established Cbus accessory shop (yes that one) and this experience was more personal and affordable. Mike kept my budget in mind, and came up with creative solutions for my weirder requests. My custom enclosure is perfect. If he says it's going to take a few days for a bigger project, trust him - the workmanship is worth it. I will be coming back here for future projects, also in part because they are among the few who aren't afraid to do engine-related installations on a manual transmission. The shop has a 3.5% surcharge on credit card transactions, which is perfectly reasonable for a small business like this one. read more

I have a 2019 Subaru WRX manual transmission model that I have been told by several shops, they just can't do a remote starter installation on. While I was in the process of purchasing a vintage car, I began to search around the area for a trustworthy shop to do some future work. I stopped by Sound Investment and met Mike, who immediately took interest in my car and quickly demonstrated that he understood any challenges with installing a security system in my vehicle. Later in the day, I stopped by 2 other shops in the area (due diligence) and had awful first impressions. I also visited a local mechanic based on recommendations, and who did they recommend for anything electrical? Sound Investment. Flash forward a couple of weeks and I used them to install a security system. There were incredibly patient with me throughout the process and took all the time in the world to be helpful and explain any questions I had. Their work was excellent. Also, without haggling, they beat the price of one of the other shops I spoke to by a couple hundred bucks (and I still wouldn't have trusted the other shop to do the work). Sound Investment installed a remote starter on my wife's Honda Civic as a early Christmas gift (figure better now that the temperatures are dropping). Dropped it off at 9am, and it was done a few hours later. The guy at the desk gave my wife a rundown on how to use it, and also let us know that the factory key fob would also start the car, which I personally find useful, one less aftermarket fob to carry around. The install from what I can tell was clean, the only thing you see is an antenna from the top of the windshield. I normally go to another major car audio place in Columbus, but their prices have become outrageous! I don't think nobody in Columbus could beat Sound Investments prices. I happened to catch a Black Friday deal I saw on their Facebook page. Sound Investment will now get 100% of my business. read more

Additional comments: When I picked up my car after the install, Mike made no mention of the mirror settings. I called later the same day about the glare problem and the person answering the phone relayed my concern to DJ who installed the mirror. He suggested I try changing the settings. The mirror settings are not magic. I spent a lot of time adjusting the three available settings (brightness, contrast and color) using many combinations yielding only slight improvement. In my opinion, it's just a crappy mirror! I asked DJ when I brought the car in for the install if they stocked a mirror that also displayed the temperature. He told me they just stocked one mirror and it's really popular with their car dealership customers in part because they're focused on price. DL looked online and found another mirror could be ordered with more features for about $1,000. That would have doubled the cost of the entire project and it just wasn't in my budget. My decision to go ahead with the install was based on receiving a decent mirror back-up camera system. Seeing double images because of the anti-glare coating and a washed out camera image due to high glare was not what I was expecting. read more

This place made me so angry I had to create an account just for this review. To be fair, I could have avoided some of the troubles I'm about to recount, but here goes. I bought a remote car starter here for my wife before Christmas. I called all over town and this was the lowest price I found and it had positive reviews. The owner couldn't have been nicer when he made his sale and I complimented him for being 40% cheaper than the big guy in town. (I should also note that I had to correct him on one of the aspects of the installation on my wife's vehicle. He said the vehicle wouldn't shut off when she opened the door but I knew it would based on my homework.) I left with the remote starter and understood that my wife would call and schedule the installation appointment. So far, so good. My wife decided she didn't want the starter and I couldn't find the receipt. I called Saturday and the employee I spoke with asked for the spelling of my last name 3 times before telling me I wasn't in their system and I was out of luck. I asked when the owner would be in and he said "Monday." So I called back today at 9:15 since it was MLK Jr. Day and one of the few weekdays I have off. I explained my situation to him and I will do my best not to misquote him... He said, "Look, we told you that we don't have you in our system so you're really raising red flags. We will not give you a refund unless you find that receipt. It's on you, buddy." I tried to explain that I didn't think my last name was searched properly. He didn't care and made no offer to search again... he only said "we tried spelling it two different ways" (as if there are only two possible ways to spell a given person's last name). Then I asked if he would still do the installation for free if I couldn't find the receipt. He agreed. Naturally, that begs the question why he believed I purchased the starter there for the purposes of installation, but not a return. He responded that he was "just trying to soften the blow for me." (Thanks for the charity, BUDDY.) I resigned to the fact that I would walk in there, kindly ask once more for a return, then just walk out and leave the $362.17 car starter on his counter because there was no way he was touching one of my vehicles. Luckily, I found the receipt shortly thereafter, loaded up the crying baby, and went to make my return. The friendly employee at the counter completed the return and I told him that it was complete bull$&!+ that they don't have my name in their system because it is printed correctly on the store invoice. He apologized and told me the owner gets calls directed to his cell phone before 9:20 a.m. so he wasn't at a computer when I called (my name was in the system, of course). So all in all, I can't speak to their quality of work, but the owner is a joke. He questioned my integrity and said I raised red flags, as if I was running some scheme to buy remote car starters at more expensive locations then return them at his business for a 40% loss (I guess!?), he didn't even entertain the idea that somehow my name was searched improperly, and he is trying to conduct business from home/the road when he obviously can't. All the while, he was extremely discourteous... to put it kindly. All he had to do was say, "Let me call you back when I get to the store and see if we can straighten this out." I'm not easily offended and I always give people the benefit of the doubt. It kills me to write a negative review for a small business, but I think it's fair to say this owner was shockingly rude and/or incompetent in my case. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but he earned this review regardless. The other employees I encountered seemed alright. Won't be back. Two thumbs down. read more

I've installed many basic car stereos in my own vehicles before and when I went to do my new one with Apple CarPlay in my 13 Hyundai Elantra I got myself into some unfamiliar territory these guys not only dug me out of a hole I buried myself in but they got me in with absolutely no notice the same day I called and made it better than I could have imagined and ended up installing a reverse camera as well. That did not find the problem so I scheduled an appointment for 11 am. Went into the store and was not seen. Asked how long it would take and he said "he didn't know". Manager is trash. Went to this company to have a cd/dvd nav radio upgrade with back up camera and a remote start installed. At first the sales associate was attentive and knowledgeable about different products. He about had me sold until I asked for a simple written estimate so I could review the products he was recommended. He flat out said NO! He wouldn't give me an estimate. Stated I only wanted it so I could go get these cheaper some where else. Well even if that had been true I would say it was still quite rude and insulting. They seem to be too afraid to price competitively or at least allow the consumers to ensure they're priced competitively. I wasted a good 35 to 40 minutes in this store and will not go back. I wasn't going to have my wife's car upgraded to. I will take my 3k to 4K Project to one of their competitors and I suggest you to do. read more

I had them uninstall a quirky Kenwood 998 that malfunctioned, along with two replacement models, multiple times from the day I first got it 11/2014. They noticed that the problems may have been due to how it was (mis)installed by another audio store, but at that point, I was ready to move on to another brand. I worked with Mike, and he was very thorough in explaining the features of the brands I was considering. I chose a Sony---the three year warranty was a factor, and based on my past experience, he scheduled the install for a day when he knew that the installer who could handle any potential compatibility issues with my existing JBL speakers. When I had issues with my IPOD classic music not being 'read', even though Sony's manual, and online support page said it should, and even though my IPAD 2s worked flawlessly, Justin explained how the version I had, 5th generation, had a different hard drive than later models. He was more knowledgeable than any of the Sony reps I'd spoken with---probably because he once worked with Apple. I am very happy with the system and its functionality. It was a smooth and professional transaction. Mike, Justin, and all of the persons I interacted with are straightforward and knowledgeable, and I would highly recommend them for all of your audio needs. read more
