This is not the first time, I felt bias coming from the front desk Kaylie, but today Kaylie said the copay for my husband's visit was $45.00. I asked if we could bill this time because unfortunately we do not have it today. At first she said we could not see the doctor. I said we made special arrangements to get here and drove a long way. She then said very rudely to "just make sure we pay it!" with a head shake and as if talking down to someone. I said "Why wouldn't we pay it?" The comment hit hard because we are black and have experienced this type of treatment before. we are respected, black, senior people of the community who paid their bills . This type of treatment should not be tolerated. If my 87 year old husband dud not need his treatment i we would not come back. But trust me i am looking for another doctors office after today. The doctor is great and i have no complaints on other staff. read more

I was referred by my regular eye Dr to the clinic for an emergency eye issue. I was treated with kindness in a professional manner by all employees I had contact with.. The wait was long but appreciative since I was not a scheduled patient . read more

My husband saw Dr. Nelson emergently. He has been having horrible symptoms with fevers, headaches, joint pains, then a sudden onset of floaters. We went to two different ERs, and they just gave him migraine cocktails and hoped for the best. Dr. Nelson did an extensive retinal exam due to the floaters, and other symptoms. He was the only one that gave us possibilities of what it could be. He referred us to rheumatology and to get bloodwork done. He was the only one to ever give us any sort of answer! My husband has since improved after treatment, and is continuing on with his rheumatologist. Thank you Dr. Nelson! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Truxal for years. I get shots for AMD caused by CSR. I've had well over 30 shots, a couple of laser treatments and incredible care. Dr. Truxal is kind and gentle and I rarely feel any pain. I had to see Dr. Nelson a couple of times and found him to be equally caring. I saw a doctor in Texas when I was first diagnosed and it was such a horrible experience I really appreciate the time and skill these doctors share. The staff is always nice and efficient. Over the past 3 years I've had Posterior Vitreal Detachment in both eyes and one torn retina requiring regular follow-up. Because I always got an appointment on short notice, I've seen 4 different doctors. The front desk and office staff are all friendly, attentive, professional and helpful. The doctors are amazing: technically excellent (I've had great results) at the evaluation,diagnosis and treatments they offer, professional and friendly in their demeanor, patient with my many questions as I always want to understand everything they say. I've never been to any medical practice where I felt everyone I came in contact with, over a period of years, was excellent at what they do. Parking is easy, the waiting rooms, offices and restrooms are clean and comfortable. I'm a fan! read more

Looks like it's been years since a review has been submitted for Sound Retina, and things have changed. I've been seeing Dr. Nelson for several years. Never had an issue until the last two years. For the last couple of years I've shown up for appointments only to find his referral specialist, Bailey, didn't get my referral in their system. They have hired a second referral specialist but apparently two people are incapable of successfully completing this job because today, once again, they had no referral for me and expected me to wait while they scrambled to get one. Back in October Bailey said she'd ensure a referral would be in their system that covered several month's, for my future appointments, but she did not do it and again, I had to wait while they scrambled. I tried to explain to Dr. Nelson that it defeats the purpose for me to come in to see him if each time I need to wait excessively while they scramble to get a referral. He didn't care and was angry, as if a patient, a customer, has no right to complain. Instead of admitting Bailey has dropped the ball again and telling me this issue will be resolved going forward, Dr. Nelson said he wasn't going to do anything. He didn't have a referral for a shot but he said he could give it to me anyway... don't do me any favors, I'll have my insurance pay for a specialist with competent staff and a Doctor that doesn't expect their patients to ignore blatant incompetence. I would suggest you avoid this office until they can resolve this issue or else you may be a victim of unprofessional behavior and have to deal with a Doctor who does not value you, or worse end up having Bailey nag you for payment and send your account to a collection agency. Oh I'm sure they'd resolve it eventually, but in the mean time you may have to deal with more than just the inconvenience of waiting. read more

Was referred by my new eye doctor. Before hand called to confirm pricing. Quoted $250-500. After appointment almost $800. Offered a payment plan of $50 a month. After being told they can't do anything for me I still resolved to pay for the services. Now after 9 months of following the payment plan I have been provided with a letter stating they have decided to change the terms of the contract. They are expecting me to pay the remaining balance on the bill, within 8 days of receiving the letter of information. This place is rude to its patients during the visit. and during inquiries about payment. I will not be returning as a patient. i found the doctor to be competent, but in no way does that make up or all the negatives. I recommend this office to no one. I find the business practices to be unethical and heavy handed. read more

For several years I've been seeing Dr. Nelson and everything went smoothy until 2 years ago. That is when they hired a new referral speacialist and not one referral has been in their system when I arrive for my appointment, since. The week of 1/17/2020 was no exception and I was again expected to wait while they scrambled to get one. This time i decided to complain to Nelson reminding him its been 2 years of not having one referral in place, but he did not want to hear it and walked out. After 30 minutes they were able to get a referral but it didnt include getting my avastin shot and he tried to give me a lame excuse about insurance and I responded that it was due to Baileys continued incompetence. Again Nelson didn't want to hear it and walked out. Tbe assistant said she would try to get an approval for the shot and asked me to wait. After 20 minutes they came back but Nelson was still angry and asked if I wanted to see another Doctor. I walked out. They hired a second referral specialist since Bailey isn't able to complete the job her predecessor did so expertly, but its obvious the job still isnt being completed properly. I will now being going to a specialist that values their customers and until Sound Retina resolves the issue of incompetent staff you should avoid them as well. read more

I have seen all three of Sound Retinas doctors over the course of the last 18 months (macular problems and GCA ). I received excellent care from all three, and the techs and office staff are outstanding too. When I've had a concern, they have almost always squeezed me in on a same day basis. One appointment stretched into four hours because they wouldn't let me leave until they had nailed down a treatment plan with a local hospital. They call to follow up. This outfit is the most responsive health care team I have ever worked with. read more
