It was only a year or so ago that Drew came to our home to put that very same dryer drum belt back on after it popped off after I turned the drum manually. That was actually Lesson #1 in Proper Dryer Loading Etiquette because who knew that dryer drum belts were such sensitive manufactured parts? As he did that first time, Drew arrived ahead of our appointment time, quickly set to work and rapidly finished the job. And as part of the service, he cleared out the lint trap below the dryer drum. Manning's has been our sole major appliance repair service for a long time. Look at my previous reviews. I mean, REALLY look at them. I've been posting about them since 2015 which is when I started writing reviews on Yelp. We actually first called them about a year or two before that. Drew might do warranty repairs on appliances but if not, well the best thing about a warranty running out is that while you'll have to pay for the service call, you get to entrust your appliance to Drew for an expert repair. In our experience, warranty repair service companies have always been hit and miss. Drew's always dependable and his work is top notch. Do we like spending money on repairs for malfunctioning appliances? Not a chance. Do we enjoy having Manning's Appliance Service as our go-to for making those repairs? You bet.

I sat down with Diane and she walked me through 3 sewing machines. I was blown away by a) how far sewing machines have come since I purchased my last one 30 years ago. We played with lots of fabric scraps and trying different stitches. We were uninterrupted, but when people did come up, she took a few moments to either point them in the right direction, or ask them to come back in a bit. I needed to try a cable from the store to see if my Viking serger works, before I spend the money on a new cable. I hoped it would work, then I planned to buy a cable and go home. It's a Viking serger, so I went to the Viking dealer. The sewing section is in the back of Jo-Ann fabric and crafts. The employee there spoke to me as though I was ruining her day by being there. I WOULDN'T have been there if she had bothered to send an email reply! She told me she was busy, selling to a customer it appears, and had no intention of addressing my problem for a very, very long time. She emphasized that it would be a VERY long wait, as though she was telling me to leave. Then turned her back on me and did not deal with me again except for one isolated dirty look. I realize that a cable is under a $100, and a sewing machine will get her much more commission. I realize she was already willing to sell machines for as many hours as it takes, when someone asked her for 10 minutes of her time. I didn't even expect her to help me herself. But I DO expect her to get someone else who can simply look up a part in a catalog, and to not be such an agitated, confrontational jerk. She was unreasonably hostile and rude. I left after 20 minutes of waiting. I went to two other sewing machine stores, neither whom specialize in Vikings. Neither had my cable because they sell mostly other machines, both suggested I try the crappy Viking store, but BOTH took the time to root through their entire inventory and offer to order the part for me. They were busy and I waited for them too, but they were kind and helpful instead of abrasive and snappy. Viking AND Jo-Ann are now not at all my favorite place to go for all things sewing. I have a bad taste in my mouth.

In fact, I've called on him 3 times to address different issues with our dishwasher, and two times he did not charge me despite taking time out of his day to visit and/or speak to me over the phone (once the issue was the brand of pod I was using--which he diagnosed & explained again over the phone, and he was right). He's also prompt, always coming when he says & one time even coming same day when he had the part in stock. He is just lovely, honest, trustworthy, and truly an expert. Asked him if could open the burner top so that the igniters can be replaced - said he couldn't do it. Asked him if he could disable the clicking mechanism so that we can light it with a lighter ourselves. He said the mechanism is behind the valve plate and said I could try it myself - but he wouldn't attempt it. He then quickly wrote up the trip charge invoice and left. I don't mind that he couldn't fix it. That happens. But his lack of interest in helping fix a problem was very unimpressive.

Jeff picked up the phone right away, asked some simple questions that inspired me to open up my leaky washer and identify the parts that needed replacing. I called him back the next day, told him the parts that need replacing and he came over the following day with replacements. Unlike the other place where they replaced the parts and left (and it kept on leaking), Jeff went through a long post-service diagnostic to make sure the washer wasn't leaking after the parts were installed. It's not well advertised, but his service and parts are guaranteed for 1 year! He was more expensive than the other place but he replaced more parts and did more to ensure it was a good fix. I would gladly call on him again if there was another appliance problem in the house!

Jeff came out and for a fraction of the price of a new dishwasher did a deep clean and showed me how to maintain and keep it clean and running well. Problem solved. So, warm milk and ice cream you needed a jackhammer to cut it. We called Bill's and Jake or Jay (sorry my hearing isn't good) answered with a pleasant greeting. He explained that Bill could stop by in a couple of days to diagnose the issue. FANTASTIC! We didn't expect anyone to answer the phone let alone schedule an emergency visit within days. Bill was on time a pleasant event at what we assumed to be the end of his workday. He defrosted the freezer compartment and diagnosed the problem as a bad computer board. The culprit board arrived in a few more days; Bill retired to install it. Everything was back to normal for a few days but Jake/Jay called us to say that they had a second computer board that they had discovered our refer requires to operate properly. Bill was out again and installed the second board. Amazing follow through and caring service. Above and beyond expectations. The value? Well considering the cost of a similar new refrigerator we spent about 10%. If we get another 17 years out of our fridge that is an amazing value. And, even if we only get 5 more years, that's all a new refer is expected to last. Beyond a doubt Bill helped us defer a substantial cost and we kept another old fridge out of the landfill or ocean.

This business might be a scam. They have come out to fix our refrigerator twice - and no complaints…read morethere. But - the same problem persisted weeks after the second fix. I tried calling - left a message. Again, left a message. Left another. Then my wife. Then me again. No call back. So - I was frustrated and scheduled an appointment. I didn't get any confirmation, so I called again and got the answering machine. I called back from a 503 number and low and behold, I finally talk to someone. They said that I have an appointment (tomorrow at 1PM). I saw something like - 'I must have missed the confirmation message' but there was none. The next day transpires and it is a no-call no-show. It is the absolute worst customer service I have ever had. I left a final message saying it seems like you are screening your calls and not responding to me for what I can only think is you don't want to have to fix the repair you made that did t work. Then my wife started calling again and again... got someone that said they would 'transfer her to accounting' -- HAHA! There is no 'accounting department' - what a scam. I just can't believe you were just so bad at every aspect and interaction. All the calls, the messages unreturned, no confirmation for the visit, the no-call no-show, how easy it was to get a hold of you from a different 503 number, and then the lie about the accounting department. How are you even in business?
