I scheduled a Focus Relief Massage as my right low back/hip area had a horrible knotted mass that made it difficult to sit, stand and walk without a limp. I got a Focus Relief massage with Grace that was 45 min. long. OMG - did she some awesome hand + hot stone magic on this knot till it was gone, gone, gone !! Mostly fiddling with stones and rearranging wet clothes and putting out scents then actual massage. I won't be back since this last time it was probably 40% massage and 60% "prepping". I've been going to Sound Stone for the past 8 years- it's by far my favorite massage experience! More recently I've gone in for a pregnancy massage and it was so amazing I had to go back a few weeks later. I highly recommend Angelique-- she was able to focus on my back issues and knew how to handle sensitive areas like my legs! I'm going to give it 5 stars, but I will say, I tried about 4 girls here and 1 was the best. I'm not giving her name because I don't want everyone to find out about her. The others were just ok. I like the 90 minute, hot stone massage. Some of the girls fiddle around with the stones to much and don't focus on the massage. One of the girls I had barley touched me and I could hear her ear bud music. All in all, it's great, you just have to try a few people to find your fit. read more

I received second degree burns on my chest and bruising under my arm from a stone massage here. I highly recommend you avoid this place. I spoke with the manager twice, and she saw the blisters and did nothing to remedy. I've added a photo from the day of, a week later and currently so you can see what my experience was. As a fairly small person who chooses to have deep tissue massages, I am often faced with disappointing results. It seems that a lot of therapists are afraid to truly get in there for fear of doing too much and hurting me. That's why I am so thankful for Jessica at Sound Stone Massage. She took the time to get to know where my pain points are (my upper back, shoulders and neck) and focuses her attention with just the right pressure and time. The facility itself is clean and the reception staff is always welcoming (which, tbh, isn't always the case at spas), and the headphones and gentle vibrations of the table are a nice touch. I also really enjoy being able to book appointments online. The star of the show, however, is Jessica. I would give zero stars if I could because I could not be more horrified by my experience here. I took my mom to get a massage for her birthday. We were 5 minutes late because of traffic which I immediately apologized for upon walking in. Everything seemed fine until Haley came out and tried to rush us back with a huge attitude. My Mom was still filling out paperwork and wanted to read the information sheet of what to expect. Haley exasperatedly and aggressively told us that they would go over the sheet in the back. (My mom is the kind of person to read for herself and this wouldn't have taken but maybe 5 more minutes.) Haley had extreme sarcasm and contempt in her voice when she said it was okay and to read it ourselves even though they would go over it (she said that 3 times, speaking to us as if we were children). My Mom addressed her attitude (because who would want someone with a rude spirit right off the bat working on them) and she remained extremely combative in her explanation that we were late to our appointment. I stepped in because she was excessively berating my Mom to the point that I said there is no reason to be a b****. From there we were thrown out. I asked for an email confirmation from Amanda, who was also extremely combative and rude, had an aggressive tone of voice and openly mocked me when I asked for her name. She then threatened to call the police on us if we did not leave. All I wanted was an email stating I would not be charged. She said I would get an email that I would not be charged. I asked for the owner's information and called Jackie who has not yet returned my phone call. This was about an hour ago and I am still waiting for that email confirmation. I cannot imagine a business treating customers about to drop $600 on two spa days in the manner that we were treated. I will happily take my business elsewhere and I would encourage anyone planning a visit here to avoid it like the plague to go somewhere else. read more

This is a unique massage experience here in St. Louis. Came here for a late Valentine's date with my wifey. They have 3 rooms for couples, and all the tables vibrate in sync with the background music (hence the name, Sound Stone). The tables are super nice and cozy, and during the massage, they'll cover your ears with Bose headphones, and cover your eyes and chest with very warm and heavy pillows. A couple of times, I could sense the scent of eucalyptus. It's those little touches that made this experience really unique. Highly recommended. Make it a date night with your special someone, and head off to nearby Twisted Tree Steakhouse (also very good) for a wonderful dinner. read more

I LOVE getting massages. I just do. So after a stressful few months of moving and such, I decided to treat myself to a massage. Well, actually, my mom decided to treat me. She gave me some SpaFinder gift cards! After doing a little research online, I settled with Sound Stone Massage. They had received some pretty favorable reviews, and were named CitySeach's 'Best Massage' in 2009. So I thought I'd try it out. I went with their signature 'La Stone ThermoTherapy'. I was able to book and confirm my appointment online, and I was set! This place is nestled in the (now mostly defunct) Crestwood Mall. It was very easy to find (right around the corner from Fletcher's). The receptionist was extremely friendly, and led me into the massage room. She had me fill out some paperwork, and went over exactly what I could expect during the massage. She introduced me to my therapist, Jackie, and they both left me alone to undress. Now -- the massage. Jackie was AMAZING. She clearly knows what she's doing. She dimmed the lights, turned on some ambient music, placed some headphones on my ears and a facemask on my face. Then she worked her magic with the hot stones. I could try to describe how amazing it was, but I would fail miserably. It's really just something you have to experience yourself. One thing that I really appreciated was the fact that it was a TRUE 60 minute massage. A lot of places I've been to advertise a 60 minute massage, but after filling out paperwork and getting undressed/redressed before and after the massage, you're really just left with 45 to 50 minutes of massage time. Not here. The clock doesn't start until the therapist starts the massage -- and I LOVE that! Anyway, I highly recommend. I think I still prefer a 'regular' massage, i.e. one without the stones, but this was a VERY good experience. read more

If There was a zero, I would give it. I got an email regarding last minute openings for Saturday at 1p and 430p. I left a message and received a call back within minutes and was accidentally hung up on. I called back and confirmed my 430p hour massage. When I got there, the young lady at the counter was clueless and said I was not on the calendar. I spent an hour of my time driving there and back. I won't give out my hourly rate, but it is a lot of money and they wasted my time, gas, and an hour of relaxation I was looking forward to. I told them to take me out of their system and email. I checked out this place in the middle of a polar vortex and wow! It was warm, it was soothing, I felt all my negativity floating away. I did the Head2Toe experience and it was amazing! Warm and soothing and just so so calm and relaxing. I do want to balance that though with saying that if your body hurts and you are wanting a massage to soothe the aches, this really isn't the place. Check out my other reviews for places that can do fantastic job on your muscles. As this place states on the website and on the form you sign, the process includes a lot of logistics that takes time away from body work. While that is fantastic for the sensory experience (again, I cannot stress the amount of chill you get from that), it's not great for the actual hands on muscle work. So decide what you are looking for and choose from there! read more

Sound Stone Massage is as good as it gets. I've had massages at multiple establishments in multiple states,​ and none compare to my experience at Sound Stone. I got the Be Stone massage and it was fantastic. The ambiance​ is great, the massage tables are amazing and the massage therapists know what they're doing. I highly recommend this place for your massage needs. The only downside is I don't believe they have membership packages to help reduce the cost of each massage. $70 per massage is a bit costly if you're like me and like to get a massage every month. read more

Amazing hot stone massage! It was absolutely amazing. The 3 hours flew by fast and I was in heaven.

This was a waste of a couple hundred dollars. My poor girlfriend (ex massage therapist) and I went as a treat for our anniversary. I should have known upon entering when my therapist shook my hand with a cold, dead-fish grip that we were in trouble. We were told to speak up if we wanted something done differently; more pressure, less pressure, etc. So after 10 minutes of getting oily hands rubbed all over me... and that's all it was... oily hands, no pressure, no force... just slimy hands running all over my body... I finally said, "You really can use much more pressure.", to which my therapist responded, "I don't use pressure, I use movement." Now... a hot stone massage can be whatever you want... deep tissue, "swedish" style... or just a relaxing rub down. I specifically outlined areas I needed worked on, and for a good sized, strong male, you really need to work the muscles to get any benefit at all. You can use your hands, or even the stones in certain areas to apply the necessary force to achieve myofascial release. I was very clear about what I wanted, but the therapist was content doing whatever she wanted. What I got was an hour long equivalent of a "can you put sun screen on my back?"... There was no more vigor to my massage than that. When I put lotion on after a shower, I use more force than was ever applied during this massage. When I was done, I felt stiff, frustrated and annoyed. I feel like I was ripped off. Furthermore, I said that I have tight muscles surrounding my hips (adductors, piriformis, hip flexors, IT band), and that I wanted thos focused on... Nothing... not one single moment of my hour massage was dedicated to what I asked. I was too mad after the massage to even express what I thought. I didn't know where to start, and I knew I would get upset. So, I left it alone until this review. Pathetic, don't bother, waste of money, never going back. read more

Dude. DUDE. I checked this place out after seeing Steph's glowing review on it. I needed to chill out the night before taking my nursing licensure boards. I read all the thorough descriptions on the website and also decided on the La Stone ThermoTherapy. I was able to make my appointment online, which was very convenient, and didn't have any trouble getting a slot for that night. The place in Crestwood Mall is very relaxing right as you go in. I filled out their paperwork and then had about a five minute wait as I perused their coffeetable books. Jackie was also my massage therapist. She sat down with me and asked my reasons for coming in today (apparently her top three clients are nurses, doctors, and police officers...not surprising!) and explained everything from the beginning of what to expect. She was very patient and kind. The massage engaged all my senses - the room was dimmed with candlelight (but I did have an eyemask on during the actual massage), I had headphones on playing relaxing music, she used aromatherapy...the table I was on vibrated with the music, which I knew about going in and I was afraid it would be distracting, but it wasn't. And Jackie worked her magic with hot stones and her hands literally from head to toe. Like Steph said, it was a true 60 minutes. Also, you can do the massage in your underwear or completely naked, it's up to you. She doesn't try to sway you one way or the other, but I went totally nude because I have no shame. =] And I think I got the most out of it that way. But if you are shy, she is okay with that. The massage was fantastic. Sublime. I did not want to get off that table. I felt like jello afterwards. I called my mom on the way home and told her I felt high. I guess that's a good massage! This massage place offers something differently than all the other massage places. The massage table sits on top of some sort of music base where it vibrates from the music. The table is nice and warm - which I love. Then they put a headphone on your ears and a pillow over your eyes to block out from outside noises and the lights!!! Their hot stones massage wasn't bad. I loved the hot stones when it touched my achy muscles. I was in total relaxed mode. The in-between massages from the stones to manual hands. I would say the hand massages were a bit disappointed. It was hardly a massage. She rubbed me real soft and by no mean with any pressure. Aside from that, the hot stones felt great, but the massage techniques were a bit of a disappointment. Also, I felt they take a long time to get things set up. I'm used to getting massages where they are constantly working on your body. This place was the opposite. Why the 3 stars? We arrived 15 minutes early and filled out a form. I specifically said I wanted firm and please focus my neck, shoulders and back. I barely got any of that. The front older lady wasn't exactly friendly. I don't even remember she smiled once at us. Then we waited at least 15 minutes past my original appointment time and did not get our massages till 30 minutes later. No apologies or Thank You for waiting. Nothing. I am indifferent about this place. For $220 couple stone massages, I would have expected a little bit more as far as the massages goes. read more

I just went back for the half day experience yesterday. It was heavenly. I've never had a facial with stones, and this one included both hot and cool stones. It was amazing! I was sore when I came in, and the massage with the hot stones helped all of my soreness go away. I also have extremely dry skin when it gets cold, and the body wrap helped moisturize my skin for at least a day. It was just a great experience, and I think I've found my forever spa. read more

I was visiting my Mom for her birthday and I booked a dual massage for myself and my daughter and a facial and chakra balancing massage for my mother. We all had such a wonderful and relaxing experience. Everything about the massage was set up for extreme relaxation. The bed softly vibrated along with the music and they use soft headphones to get you in the zone. The pressure on the massage was great for all three of us. The aromatherapy and oils were lovely, the place was very clean and the staff were all very welcoming and polite. We had a full hour massage, not the kind were they cut you off because the hour changed. There was no pressure to hurry or to buy unnecessary packages. We all walked out feeling like new humans and completely relaxed. I would highly recommend this spa to anyone looking for a quality service in a relaxing space. read more

As a Sailor for over 17 years I have received amazing massages all over the world, but this is by far the best one of them all. Wearing the headphones and having the bed that vibrates with the key notes allows you to completely take your mind off of everything and fully relax. I have never been so impressed with a massage in my life. This place is absolutely incredible! The rooms are themed which seems simple but I found it a super thoughtful touch. I had the couples massage and oh my gosh. So amazing. Noise canceling headphones with fabulous soothing music sync with the vibrations in the table and absolutely take you away. I mean cmon- it's insanely genius. The staff was also extremely friendly and professional and just amazing. We had Jackie and Rachel and both my boyfriend and I agreed that this was the best massage we've ever had. I honestly can't recommend this place enough. I booked it to make up for a couples massage from hell at a different company and I'm almost happy I got tortured for 60 minutes at the other company because it led me to search for and find Sound Stone. I decided on Sound Stone Massage due to the availibility of appointments, low cost ($70 for an hour) and proximity to my home. Setting up my visit was a bit of a time consuming chore because the appointment taker kept setting the phone down and seemed rather unorganized....They also require a hold on your credit card to guarantee you show up...all of these things would have been A-OK if the massage would have been great, sadly it was just ok....perhaps the massage therapist was a little fresh out of school? My friend and I went in to the "spa" for a relaxing girl's afternoon. We looked all over St. Louis and we decided on Sound Stone. Their website looked good and prices were very fair- the packages looked fantastic so we decided to call and schedule for the following day. It took me 25 minutes to book our appointments- no joke. The woman seemed very confused and I brushed it off as that she was probably just new to the system or something. We waited for about 10 minutes upon arrival and were taken into a room together where we were told the same woman would be doing our pedicures and manicures. The woman went from my feet back to my friend's hands and back and forth. It was extremely unsanitary! Also, the woman seemed very flighty and confused. She couldn't even remember if she put a top coat on my toes. And she did not stop talking the entire time-at about 100 miles an hour. They put you in these really uncomfortable chairs that DO NOT massage or anything and then soak your feet in a metal tub. They explained this was for sanitary reasons but the water went cold really quickly and it was extremely UN-enjoyable. Save your money and get a mani/pedi at place at the mall! Then it was time for our stone massages. We waited 45 minutes between our nail appointment and massage appointment. We were told we would go from one appointment to the next immediately. We booked one of the packages that was for people who wanted to experience a stone massage for the first time. We understood it was for 45 minutes and would only cost $55. The prices on the website were broken down to trick you into thinking you're getting this great deal. Don't fall for it! The massages were okay. I wasn't blown away though. Gross alert!- my friend's massage therapist smelled like she wasn't clean "down there" if you know what I mean. Literally the most disgusting thing to experience when being massaged! So, once our massages were over, we went out to pay our bills. They have lots of products in front and the owner was talking to someone else so we looked around a bit. One of the shelves had all the aroma therapy scents, used in the massages, for sale. The price tag said $9.50 and I thought that was great so I decided to purchase it. After the owner told me my total, I was confused as it was MUCH more than it should have been. While my friend was paying, I looked at my receipt and saw that the owner charged me $19.00 for the aroma therapy spray, $70 for the massage (should've been $55) and $5.00 more than the website said for the pedicure. I pointed out the mistake for the aroma therapy spray and she said, "Um, no, that's not correct." I explained that I would not have purchased it for $19.00 and she said, "Um, how about $12?" Because I'm an idiot, I accepted her haggling. My friend and I left silently angry but when we got out the car, we discussed the whole experience and I just became angrier by the second so I went back in to confront the owner about the over-charges. The prices on the website are wrong or the owner/manager just tries to pull one over on you and sees if you notice. Well, we noticed and she tried every excuse in the book as to why that happened. The owner ended up refunding us for part of the massage and some of the pedicure but it wasn't enough because our day was ruined. Also, we were told we would be out at 4pm so we booked an appointment at a Bridal Shop for 5pm. We did not even get out of the spa until 5:30 and then I had to go back in to deal with the ridiculous over-charge. Absolute worst experience ever! Don't waste your time or money!! My husband and I booked massages as an early Valentine's present for ourselves. He got the Swedish stone massage and I got the deep tissue stone massage. His was more of a full body massage than mine, which focused more on my shoulders/back area. I think this was because the therapist said I had "a lot to work through" back there. Mine hurt at points but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle and the relief afterwards was wonderful. The warm stones were very soothing and I really like the sound table. My husband enjoyed his massage but said he would likely go for a massage without the stones next time. He said his massage was more of a relaxing type instead of a stress reliever. I really liked that they have online booking and accept gift cards from spa websites. I was able to find a deal and we ended up getting a discount that covered the tip. Can't beat that! I definitely recommend trying them out, I think I want to try the Thai yoga massage next time. read more

This was my first ever massage so I went with the 'sampler' because I really didn't know what I would like or want. The pressure was firm but not hurtful - they did tell me I could ask for more pressure (I didn't give much guidance in this area as a newbie because I didn't know what I'd like) but I thought it was just right. It wasn't overly soft by any means, like I've read in a couple of the other reviews. The table moved about three feet during the session so I know she was using some force! It was perfect. The oils and hot stones felt amazing. The music, scents, lighting, and sound table were VERY relaxing. I really loved the head phones and eye cover, you can really shut off the world. They also have a arm rest under the head rest so when you are on your stomach, you can put your hands in a natural comfortable position, instead of back by your sides. I could have laid there all day! My massage therapist was Jenn B. who came highly recommended from a friend and I second that recommendation! read more

So I have been to this spa twice before strictly for massage. It literally keeps getting better. I had Rachel for my first visit. All I can say is wow!!! The rooms are extremely relaxing. Rachel explained to me that the tables are sound tables, and that I would be wearing head phones and a eye pillow to help get me into a deep meditative state. I suffer from horrible PTSD and I have always had a hard time relaxing. Rachel made sure to that I was comfortable throughout the entire massage. The massage was amazing!!! Rachel used hot pillows on my back to warm up my neck and shoulder to warm up my tense spots before she applied firm pressure. She also used aromatherapy and hot towels on my feet and my back. My mind was blown!!!! My second experience Rachel was totally booked, so I booked with Angelique who became highly recommended. I soon learned why. Angelique was amazing. I came in with a really sore back and she took extra care to make sure to address my focus issues. Like Rachel. Angelique went that extra mile. She was calming, used several blends of aroma therapy to help ease my stress and just let go. Rachel and Angelique are absolutely amazing!!! My wife finally went and booked a facial with Rachel, and she came home thrilled with her skin. My wife said that was the best facial she has ever had out here. Rachel took the time to customize my wife's facial, and explained everything about the wonderful skincare line they carry, and walked her through every single step. My wife ended up upgrading her service with a eye treatment, and a beginner peel. Rachel did a fantastic job!! My wife has already rebooked with Rachel twice for more facials. I could literally go on and on about how amazing this place is. I was shocked by the very few bad reviews. A coworker of mine told me that his wife's OBGYN actually referred her to get her pregnancy massage there. She also loved it!!! If you refuse the headphones, eye pillow, and the vibration tables, this place isn't for you. That's part of the entire experience. And if you don't speak up about the pressure during the entire massage that's your fault. That little form you fill out as a first time client says it plain and clear speak up! I actually noticed several pregnant women leaving their massages, and every single one had the happiest smile on their face. Thank you Sound Stone for taking such great care of my and friends.
