2025 update: Don and Robbie retired, but Ted the new owner did just as well if not better. Soundwerks is still my go-to place for car audio. Back in 2023 Robbie replaced my ancient OEM 2010 Jeep receiver with a JVC touchscreen with backup cam. I was thrilled, but my 2025 Sony wireless CarPlay receiver is a hot upgrade from 2023, and less expensive! At first I wasn't sure about things, with Don and Robbie gone. The new owner is a one-man show, juggling all aspects of the business singlehanded. The place looks disorganized. But don't the let that fool you. I waited on a comfy sofa in air-conditioned comfort, while Ted finished ahead of schedule and did a Five-star installation, centering the new pickup mic, realigning the backup cam, and equalizing the sound. Nice guy on the phone but won't install a head unit that I get online. I told him the brand and he said he wouldn't install it because he didn't want to be responsible if it went bad. I told him I wasn't going to sue him for a $295 stereo -- I mean, seriously? But he was adamant. This really chaps my butt to be honest because why do they care? I think it's because they want the markup on the units that they sell for three times the price in the store. 3 stars for answering the phone, minus 2 stars for not helping out someone who can't afford a $1000 Alpine unit when I was willing to pay for their install. read more

This is our First good experience with a Stereo shop. My/our review is going to be a long one. If we would've read the reviews first we wouldn't have gone there. But we didn't read them, and after having such a Great experience we decided to write a review. And read the previous reviews and thought we'd share our story. Due to so many bad experiences with stereo shops over the years, my hubs went in this shop with his guard to purchase equipment and talked to Ted about a project vehicle that he plans to due the installation himself. Ted listened to what he wanted, offered options and suggestions to help him achieve the results he was looking for. Ted also helped with another vehicle we have which the results are Great! Never in over 25yrs have I heard my hubs compliment a stereo shop. After many conversations and Excellent customer service we decided to take our granddaughters truck to Ted. Our granddaughter had taken her truck to have a head unit and 4 speakers installed at a "supposed" reputable shop in San Bernardino. Well, it sounded worse than it did to start. So, for her 21st birthday we talked to Ted, explained the story. We told him our goal and wanted to replace the dash speakers, install an Amp and subwoofer. I took her truck to him to listen to it and talk about what it needed. Upon hearing it he said the (new front door speakers she just had installed a few month ago) sounded blown. He also had concerns about the installation of the new rear door speakers. We went inside, called my hubs so Ted could explain all of this. Ted explained he wouldn't know until he could open it up to see what was going on. He wanted to start there before selling us something that could've potentially lost future sales due to the sound not being what we asked for. That's True Character and the type of person we want to do business with! He went the extra mile and took the time. We set the appt for that Thursday, he sent us pictures of his findings and we had him replace the damaged speakers, he also properly mounted the rear speakers, put in the new dash speakers, amp and had to build a custom box for the subwoofer. Space was a factor in her truck. His craftsmanship exceeded our expectations! He was concerned about the time it may take as we wanted it for her birthday, we understand every vehicle is different and most of these types of things are custom, which take time when done right. Upon picking it up, it sounded great we are happy but most importantly our Granddaughter is extremely happy! Huge smiles and Loves the sound she gets. It's hard to impress a 21 year old, but Don and Ted truly did! We have an auto repair shop in the low desert and want You readers to understand the complexities of car stereos built in the last 15-20 years. They are integrated with all of the other computers in the vehicle to different degrees, and pose different challenges when it comes to upgrading sound systems. This can take alot of time, research and additional components to achieve the sound quality you're looking for that you might not be aware of. We also understand not wanting to install a customers parts. It's a no win and inevitably falls back on the installer. To us it's like taking your own steak to a restaurant asking them to cook it and bitching about the quality of the meat. There are several negative reviews on this shop, but those are not the experience we had. Sound Weeks Is and Will remain our Go-To. They have heart and integrity. Should you decide to use them for your system please write a review. They truly deserve major credit for going the Extra Mile. Should have read reviews and frankly I had poor work done previously here but still overlooked it based on trying to support a community business. With these boys Donny and Robbie you get nothing but unprofessionalism and lack of understanding of their respective job field. First issue was installation of a basic CD unit for my mothers Honda civic 2 yrs ago. I was new to the desert at that time. Simple right? Had to bring back several times due to malfunctions, eventually gave up and forgot. Still does. Most recent, had a after market installation of a vchip security system needing to be removed to start vehicle. In doing so, any reputable electrical mechanic would understand the car system itself needs then to be rebooted. I read this in the manual before going. But allowed him to perform his work. Tells me car won't run but he was able to remove vchip (clap clap) but clearly didn't understand the basics of a security system. Still had to pay 50$ for nothing. Had to car leave in business driveway to the side overnight because he said I could, then bitched about it the next day when I wasn't available at the time of his desire. Interestingly enough when I explained the whole situation to Ace Alternators they able to locate the issue no questions asked. Beware. These dudes are lazy and clearly in business because let's face it, they are the ONLY audio and alarm business here. Don't give them the benefit. Go down the hill to Catherdal City. Best. Side note : Completely forgot to mention while I was waiting for my security issue, a customer walked and stated that his newly installed security system by them, left him lock out of his vehicle for hours, blared along with other issues and that he needed to make an appointment so they could fix his malfunction. This place is a joke. Especially the installer. I paid about $500 or a more "modern" navi, with a back up camera (my main reason for buying it honestly) and for the Bluetooth to be hooked thru the new one. I purchase a 2006 Aqura TL with only 60,000 miles on it. Total steal. Yet, the navigation was clearly outdated. When my husband and I arrived at Spundwerks they had me pick one out. I honestly didn't need a crazy fancy one. Just needed Bluetooth and a back up camera. I was told it had to be ordered and would be arriving within the week. Two weeks went by and I haven't heard nothing from them oh, so I called Don and they said they were still waiting give it a few more days. Then my husband called and they said to bring the car in Friday at 10 a.m. I called them when they opened to make sure they did have everything in so I could be ready to go so I didn't waste my time or their's. I never heard from them so I brought it down about 11 a.m. as soon as I walked in the door for owner said "you're late l!" and was really grouchy and rude. I picked up my car around 430 that day and THE NESA they installed is garbage. The installer clearly does not care whether or not it looks a esthetically pleasing and he hung the charging wire out of my glove box to charge my phone! What a joke. When I confronted him about the cord he said that's how he does all his work. Haha! Bottom line, sadly that Aqura tl that the $449 NESA was installed in was in a car accident. I TOYAK LOSS. I called soundwerks probably 20 times to get my receipt for State Farm. I never got a call back. I even went there a few times. Nobody was "there"It just so happened I found the receipt randomly. I do NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOLE IN THE WALL AUDIO PLACE. they are over priced, have zero customer service etiquette, don't return phone calls when are you legally entitled to give me a receipt FOR the really bad equipment I purchased from them. THE installer was rude he talked down to me because I was a woman, and now that we have a new car we will never be returning to this place. If you want to deal with some rude men, women haters, Liars, condescending and patronizing, then you can go have fun this at this hole in the wall shop in Yucca Valley. read more

I would never go back here. 1st visit: It was 70 miles RT to his place. I was not at all happy when I discovered that the owner failed to write down my appointment and when I showed up during business hours he said he couldn't help me because the installer had to go to his AA meeting because he had been in trouble again. (I think giving someone help recovering from this disease is a compassionate thing to do, but it is probably a good thing to decide if one is to help customers or the ill, as I am not sure both things are always possible.) 2nd visit: They did the work. The installer was surly. When I got ten minutes down the road I noticed that I couldn't roll the windows of the car back up. It was late in the day when they were finished (maybe that is why they didn't fix it right the first time) and there was no one to take it back to because they closed up and left by the time I got back there 15 minutes later. 70 more miles. 3rd visit: Took it back so I could roll the windows up. 70 more miles. 4th and final visit: The owner gave me a hard time about getting a duplicate receipt but finally gave me one. The new sound system works fine most of the time but occasionally it plays with a terrible hissing if I turn the car on after I run in and out of a store. I have to shut it down and start again. When I went back to ask him to check things out and fix it - he refused to do anything unless I could get the machine to duplicate the problem in the shop. 70 more miles. 280 miles to get it right and it still isn't. Nah, I want a pro next time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Response to Don, I appreciate that after I gave you a negative ranking you are now eager to help me. Why you couldn't help me when I showed up at your door, I don't know. I have only had one stereo installed in Yucca and your shop did the work for me. Regarding what you told me about your installer and AA, all I know is that when I showed up for my appointment and the installer was leaving the premises you told me he had to go to "his AA meeting." And frankly, it doesn't matter what appointment he had; you broke an appointment with me and that was the problem. I don't know what to say about your memory except that maybe you should have it checked. You didn't remember to write down the original appointment, you don't remember telling me personal details about the life of your employee, and you don't remember my coming back to get the spacers put in the side panels so the windows would roll up, you don't remember my return to ask about the malfunction. Seems significant. I'm going to take a pass on calling you a sixth time. The whole experience left me with such a "bad taste in my mouth" (sorry for the mixed metaphor) that It seems more pleasant to reboot my stereo every time I want to listen to it rather than to set myself up for more disappointment at your shop. read more

I love these guys! always help me out- honest all the time (how hard is that to find) If you don't need it they wont sell it to you- they wont upsell you- like most shops do- any problems they always take care of you. even if you did not buy it from them! crazy I know... They installed a stereo I had purchased from the internet, which, didn't work. I know... not their fault, but why install a non-working unit? Plus, the speakers installed, were done so without one of the grills being put back on properly. They broke, and glued a trim bezel, (my 5 year old nephew could have done a better job gluing). REALLY, I don't understand these clowns~~~ A courtesy call to let me know that I had been taken advantage of by an unscrupulous ebay seller should be part of a service for which I paid nearly $200. Exceedingly poor customer service, meets low-quality work with attitude, too! I was embarrassed for them, and pissed that such a simple job could go so awry. read more

I added in a bass tube, wired to my factory head unit. During the process I accidentally blew a fuse but couldn't locate it. Took it to these people, they told me how bad I had messed things up and nothing was done right so they would have to pull everything out and do a fresh install. After they were done, turns out I had done it correctly and all they had to do was replace a fuse. So I essentially got charged $100 for them to do extra work that didn't need to be done.... And change a fuse. I asked the old guy about it and he flipped out like I killed his dog or something. Great customer service dick. read more

The Best! Sound Werks owners and technicians are the very best - they can fix almost anything from replacing a mirror to installing the most amazing a/v system ever. I have Sound Werk sound systems in all my cars and they never have had a single problem. (one car has 3 head units!) The work is tight and the quality is excellent. STAY away !!! Came into get a sub installed in my Audi the first red flag was the fact they repeatedly said "this is complicated because of of your car, we will just have to try and figure it out, which left me less then confident in their ability. They started throwing out all these extra parts. I understood I need wiring but they kept saying they needed to get it Into the dash. Before coming I spoke to another professional in Las Vegas (where I am from), who is the same person who told me to purchase the sub kit I have because it a super easy install since my car already has a factory sub, he told me What to look for and the method these guys where suggesting was not the proper way. When I asked if there was another way or if they minded if I called to reconfirm they immediately got angry they got extremely hostile and rude told me " you know what rather you take it somewhere else" and "we have only been doing this 26 years we aren't gonna to listen to some novice" and then he started snuggly telling me that I've been in the business since 1980 something and sadly I dont know how!! the store smelled of weed and the pure attitude of the two dudes was so off putting I can't believe they speak to people like this. I WISH I got in on camera I would highly recommend staying away from these guys shady work, 3 hours to upgrade a sub in a car with a sub already is installs?! Truly these guys are scam artists. Once again, I had a major positive experience at Soundwerks. My audiobook CD's were getting stuck more frequently than usual, and I decided that it was time to stop by Soundwerks to see if they were having a sale. I'm not sure if they were really having a sale, but Don gave me a great price on the car stereo and installation. I had to come back a little later to have it installed as they were working on another installation at the time. But hey, I was a drop in customer anyway, and wasn't on their schedule. They fit me in anyway. I received a phone call an hour or so later telling me they were ready for me, and I went straight there. Robby have such a great system/routine in place that I don't think I was there more than 15 minutes and my car was finished. If you need a stereo, speakers, back up camera, remote lock/unlock, etc., SoundWerks can probably help you. Don and Robbie are simply fabulous. I'll probably be back for new speakers now that I have a real stereo in my vehicle. Oh... this is my second stereo from SoundWerks. I hired Soundwerks to install two car alarms. They did a great job, on time, and at a reasonable price.

I got a new phone and it wouldn't work with my Bluetooth Kenwood I tried everything I could think of I looked on YouTube nothing worked. I took it to soundwerks, the technician had a little bit of a problem getting them to talk to each other but he did it and only charged me 10 bucks for about a half hour of work. I also used soundwerks several years ago to change out one CD deck for another and both times I could not have been happier. He fixed the Bluetooth problem and it only cost ten bucks yes that's right just ten bucks this is a great great shop if you need anything about stereo CD players low level high level this guy knows what he's doing he has great stock definitely should choose him over anybody else. These guys are amazing. I had taken my 2013 Audi to 3 different shops and made numerous calls all over the place (I'm a traveling nurse) to get a back up camera placed in the console. No one, but no one would touch it. The car was purchased as a very basic model and I had planned on doing aftermarket upgrades. I had my Sony stereo and Jensens speakers installed yesterday and it works great. Even installed the mic that came with it so I could talk hands free. I had to change my appointment the last minute and added a speaker to be installed and they were willing to accept me right away.
